He had advised the Secret Service with the taking both medical and personal time to relax and spend it with with Eleanor and some of his buddies.
Each day his straight was returning with checking in with the hospital to check his vitals mostly his blood count and heart rate. He was still having a slight issue with his stomach though he's able to eat any type of foods.
Doctor Martinez of the clinic had told West that he was able to get dress and leave. He was doing really well considered what he had been through with Doctor Loveless.
His relationship with Eleanor had blossom further and he wanted to ask her to marry him finally. After leaving the hospital driving himself with the wagon while Eleanor was at school teaching her students. He had gone into town to look for a jewelry store to see if he was able to pick out a ring size for Eleanor.
He had saved money from over the years with working for the secret service and was able to afford the $600.00 diamond sapphire ring. He had asked the jeweler to please wrap in a box with a red ribbon to give to his girlfriend. He will have to tell Artemus Gordon about the latest development with asking Eleanor.
When he's back at the room house cleaning up while waiting for her to arrive back from the school house. It was a beautiful day totally with temperatures in the seventies with very little humidity. Changing into a clean shirt and pants from the dusty ride by the wagon. While splashing a little of his cologne that Eleanor loves the most.
He had gone over to her room using the key to wait for her sitting reading the newspaper and making sure he had his little gift for her. It wasn't long before she had arrived looking tired from the long day of teaching. "Are you alright Eleanor?" He had gotten off the sofa in the living area placing the newspaper down...
"I will be once I change out of this dress and put on something more comfortable. Along with the fact you're here. How did the visit at the hospital go for you, James?"
She will asked with a half smile...
"He thought that I was doing really well all do considered on what I had gone through with Doctor Loveless. Go changed I am taking you out for dinner at the restaurant in town. Plus the follies are back with an encore from the owner of the saloon."
"What about your friend Artemus Gordon?"
"He's working for the next six weeks with the protection detail and special event in two weeks. I would doubt he will be able to get away." Jim will make mention for when it involved the president of the United States.
Eleanor had gone to change into something nice for the evening. Temperatures had changed to be in the low seventies with no chance of rain or lightening. James West had gone outside to sit on the front porch of the rooming house with a few of the patrons walking around the city.
He was relaxed having made sure he checked his coat pocket once more. He was sitting while watching the wagons going by with the residents out for the evening. One thing he did have was a table reserved at the saloon to watch the show with Mary Ann and her associates.
Sometime later Eleanor had changed into a light blue sapphire cotton dress low cut enough to get James West attention. She was holding a blue purse in her hand while wearing a blue bonnet to compliment the dress. "Shall we go james? Are you driving the wagon or is it me?" She had asked in a soft tone demeanor.
"I will Eleanor." They walked down the steps to head for the wagon in front with the two horses drinking water from the trough before West was able to untie the ropes to help Eleanor up first. "Thank you." She will have said as he moved to the other side to move up slightly uneven at first with his balance.
After a moment they started to move into town and the restaurant. He had earlier when she was at school as well had a table reserved for dinner.
Arriving twenty five minutes the restaurant was busy with walking in with West letting the hostess know who they were with the reserved table.
"Yes Mr. West I have it. Please come this way to your table all set up." The young woman in her thirties will say with placing the menus onto the table.
"We will be sure to take a good look at the menu." Eleanor state with a smile with West helping her into her chair being somewhat curitories.
Placing their order with the waitress. James West needed to start with his speech before he was able to chicken out. Eleanor had suspected something was up with him. And she needed to wait on him.
Drinking his coffee. James goes to take her hand before pulling out the small jeweler's box with the ring. "Eleanor I wanted to say that I am so grateful for you to help me through the most difficult part of my life. I know it wasn't easy at first having gotten involved with the criminal Doctor Loveless. However you did the right thing."
"I know James it wasn't. However I was able to get past it with helping you afterwards to recover. I don't wish to see you give up the things you love the most like with your job." She will say before realizing that he pulled out the box with the red ribbon. "OMG! What is this James West?" She responded with a slight tear in her eye.
"You need to stop now and begin a new life Eleanor. I am asking you to marry me. If you will have me?" As he hands her the box to open it and try on the beautiful emerald diamond ring. She opens it with tears now falling.."IT'S BEAUTIFUL JAMES." She said with trying on the ring that fit perfectly. "To answer the question it's YES!" He gets up to move over to her to kiss the woman passionately.
There was applause inside the restaurant and including a surprise with Mary Ann and Artemus Gordon coming out from the back with a beautiful cake made to celebrate the marriage of James and Eleanor.
"How in the world Artemus did you get permission to leave the protection detail?" James West asked with hugging his partner.
"The president is a sucker for weddings. So he told me to leave and to come here for the special event and it was just beautiful." As he wipes his own eyes with tears falling to have West chuckling at him.
