Hermione had written back about the fair that was in her town, and so the Marauders were flooing into her living room. Her dad was grumbling about removing the gate surrounding the fireplace but Hermione's mother was ecstatic about the whole experience.
Hermione had dressed in a soft woolly jumper, navy jeans and boots. She'd tied her hair up in a mess of curls on the top of her head with a few left framing her face and Hermione had even painted her fingernails out of boredom and persuasion from Lily.
James came tumbling through the fire place first and Mrs Evans shrieked in delight.
"Oh James is it? Dear let me get that soot off of your nose... oh and"
"Mum stop fussing he's fine!" Hermione said pulling James out of her grasp.
"Alright Mione?" He asked "is this right Muggle clothes? My parents don't really know much about them so..."
"No no you're fine" she replied checking him over. He had light jeans, a grey jumper and old trainers on with a beanie to cover his messy hair.
Before they could engage in more conversation, Remus stepped out of the fireplace looking around nervously. He had a slightly worn jacket and a brown T-shirt on, with dark hiking boots on.
Mrs Evans attacked Remus before he had a chance to greet his friends. "Oh look at you, let me get a handkerchief for your clothes, get that soot off! And Mione dear get him a scarf he looks positively freezing!"
As her mum hurried away, Hermione took the opportunity to take the boys to her room to give them the presents. As she pushed open the door, she was surprised to see Lily sitting on her bed wrapping gifts in festive paper.
"Hey Evans!" James said cheerfully, making Lily jump out of her skin.
"Potter? What're you doing !" Lily asked sputtering at the fact the bane of her Hogwarts existence was in her room.
"Lils get Remus a scarf please" Hermione asked, nipping that argument in the bud.
Once Remus had a thick Gryffindor scarf and the boys were sitting cross legged on the rug, Hermione gave them both their purple wrapped presents.
"You can open them when Sirius and Pete get here" Hermione said still rifling through her secret compartment while the others were occupied. Once she'd found the rest of her presents, she threw them to Lily and asked "before you go out can you get Athene to deliver them?"
After some light small talk between the four, Sirius stumbled into the room. He had a black T-shirt, black pants and a black pea coat on with (you guessed it!) black boots. "No offence Mina but your mums mental!" He gasped. "As soon as I stepped into the room she shoved some kind of hot drink down my throat and started licking her thumb and rubbing my face! I've been here about 15 minutes!"
James and Hermione laughed openly, Remus chuckled and Lily just smiled slightly, refusing to actually laugh at Sirius Black the second bane of her Hogwarts existence.
"Here's your gift Sirius but you need to open it when Peter gets here!" Hermione scolded him when he started peeling the paper off of the corner.
"Oh he's here he just hasn't escaped your mother yet!" Sirius revealed.
After she'd returned from fetching/rescuing Peter, she finally let the marauders open their gifts. Lily watched eagerly.
Sirius looked at his, and looked at Hermione incredulously "a diary?"
Remus however was slightly nervous about his. It had a wolf on it. Did Hermione know?
Peter ran his hands over the beautiful cover in awe and James just shook it as if to see if it contained something more exciting.
"They're magical diaries. Look on the first page of each of yours!" Hermione said excitedly before getting a pen and writing Hello guys in her own. "See! I thought theyd be perfect for you guys. And I got my own because I just couldn't resist really!"
The boys looked at each other, Sirius and James already concocting mischief and Remus shaking his head slightly at his friends antics.
"Also the pages are unlimited and if you stick a photo or a concert ticket or anything they appear in the other books!" Hermione continued on.
But before she could complete her summary, they tackled her into a group hug and Lily laughed.
Once they'd arrived at the fair, Hermione had taken on the role of handing in Muggle money, manoeuvring them through crowds and buying them all hotdogs before they started to get on the rides.
"Mina what was that thing the Muggle was using to write on these wristbands?" Sirius asked curiously.
"Oh that's a pen" she replied " a bit like a quill but with ink inside, and they don't break as easily"
"Much better than a quill they're far easier to use" Remus nodded. He was a half-blood so he was used to Muggle customs.
"Can you show me how to use one later?" Sirius asked after a while.
"Sure" Hermione grinned.
The five delved into a comfortable silence, each thinking completely different thoughts but somehow they all tied together.
"C'mon let's go on this one!" James shouted excitedly.
The group had been there for an eventful 2 hours.
First, Sirius and James had peer pressured Peter into going on the tallest rollercoaster there that swung you upside down, left, right and then threw the cart to the floor halting them inches from the grass before catapulting them back into the air. Hermione screamed the loudest, and Peter was deadly quiet the whole time.
Then they went to the games stalls, where they threw balls at cans, tried the get rings around the bottle and hooked plastic ducks on sticks. James was awful at the games, and wasted almost all his muggle money on the ring and bottle stall, and it didn't matter however many times Hermione told him they were usually fixed. Sirius had won her a teddy of a puppy on his basketball stall, and she had won him a lion on the bow and arrow stall. Peter was frustrated because Remus had to help him do nearly everything.
After that they got Cotton candy, and Hermione convinced them to go into a muggle photo booth.
She operated it, while the boys sorted the the props eagerly. With Sirius sporting a cowboy hat, James with massive glasses, Remus with a clown Afro and Peter with devil horns and a bushy moustache. Hermione quickly pulled on a top hat and masquerade mask, before pressing the timer. Then at the last second she grabbed the sign that read: πππ πΌππππππππ πΌππππ.
