Chapter 13: Welcome to the Family

Later that evening

"I'm sorry I can't be there with you right now."

Arthur nodded, even though his mother couldn't see him. "It's ok mommy, are you guys ok?"

Sara ran her hand down her 9th month pregnant stomach with a smile. "Yes honey, we're fine. Love you, can you put your brother on the phone?"

"Ok, love you too, have a goodnight."

"You too."

A second later, Roby's voice was heard. "Mommy?"

With the smile still on her face, she replied. "Hi baby, you being a good boy?"

"Yes, I miss you though."

"Oh, I miss you too. I'll see you tomorrow though, ok?"

Whether the twins will be here by then remained to be seen, but they will get to see the boys tomorrow, regardless on what happens tonight or in the morning.

"OK, you want to talk to Melissa now?"

Sara chuckled. "Alright, I love you."

"I love you too, mommy."

A second later, Sara hears Melissa's voice, which she was out on the deck. "Hey, everything ok?"

"Everything is fine, it's basically a waiting game at this point, but we wanted to be safe than sorry, so thank you for..."

Melissa cuts her mother off with emotion in her voice. "Hey that's what older sisters are for. I'm glad to help. Anything I can to make you less worried, especially at this time, I'm here for you, for them, no questions asked."

Sara sniffled before replying. "And that means so much to me. I love you so much."

Melissa took a breath as she nodded while looking out in the ocean. "And I love you, mom. If I never said this before, I want you to know that I am glad I found you."

Sara wiped a few tears off her cheek. "Me too, sweetheart."

They took a moment before Melissa cleared her throat and asked. "Can I talk to dad?"

Sara smiled brightly, loving how that sentence sounded before she cleared her throat. "Of course, sweet dreams."

"Yeah, and you try and have a good night too."

"Yep, I'll try."

Melissa chuckled in understand before Sara handed the phone off to Grissom, which he took it with a smile before bringing it up to his ear so he could talk to their oldest.

Sara closed her eyes as the next contraction hit, and while she didn't know the full conversation, she could tell by Grissom's tone it was very emotional, then after she heard him say he loved her too, he got to have a brief conversation with the boys before hanging up.

He sets the phone on the to-go bag that was on the floor close by, then he took her hand and kissed it while she opened her eyes.

They looked at one another with emotion before he whispered. "We are so lucky to have these amazing kids."

Sara nodded with a sniffle. "That we are, babe, that we are."

Throughout the rest of the night/early in the AM, Sara did rest off and on, but then once her water broke everything happened so fast, she was rolled into the delivery room, which Grissom never left her side, holding her hand, no matter how hard she was squeezing it, whispering comforting words/giving her all the strength she needed to bring their fourth and fifth children into the world.

Once she used the last of her strength to bring their fifth child into the world, she fell back against the mattress breathing heavily as her eyes were closed, trying to catch her breath while Grissom, who still had her hand, couldn't stop kissing her temple as he whispered how amazed he was, how beautiful she was, and especially how much he loved her.

He thought he couldn't love her more or be anymore prouder of her, but watching his beautiful wife give birth, to not one but two more children, their children, proved him wrong once again.

When she finally caught her breath a little more, she opened her eyes and turned her head to look at her husband, both hearing their baby girls crying in the room, who had moved back enough to have eye contract with her, their eyes filled with tears immediately as she whispered. "I did it."

He chuckled softly, then with a smile, he moved towards her and kissed her softly before whispering against her lips. "Yes you did." (Soft kiss) "My beautiful." (Another soft kiss) "Amazing wife."

They kissed one more time before he pulled back then he cupped her cheek, softly running his thumb up and down. "I love you so much."

With a smile on her face, she whispered. "I love you too."

Their moment was interrupted a few seconds later. "Excuse me, but we have two special little girls who want to meet their mommy."

Their attention immediately went to the two nurses holding their little girls, and Sara smiled while releasing her husband's hand, then Baby number 1 was placed in her right arm before baby number 2 was placed in her other. She looked down at them once they were settled, and while they were quieting down, her heart leapt, just as it did with their others.

"They are so beautiful."

Grissom, still filled up with overwhelming emotions, whispered while looking at his two youngest beauties. "Yes, they are."

They spent the next several minutes telling them how much they love them and that they'll protect them, then the head nurse walked up to them and asked a familiar question. "Do you have a name for these two beauties, or do you need a little more time?"

When they found out they were having twin girls, it wasn't very long before two names kept coming up, which would go with the same theme of naming their other children after those they loved and cared for, which they found out Melissa was named after Tracy's younger sister who died at a very young age, so when the nurse asked that question, Sara and Grissom looked at one another and he nodded with a smile. "If you want to, honey."

She looked down at her girls again and took a deep breath before speaking softly. "I can't think of a better name for my two little girls, they'll be named after two women who were my role models on how to be a mother. I don't think I am the mother, the woman that I am today, without them."

Grissom shook his head while he spoke. "I think you're not giving yourself enough credit, honey."

"Thank you for saying that, but a part of me really believes that."

Grissom just nodded before asking. "And that is what you want?" After Sara nodded with a smile, Grissom looked up at the nurse and answered her question. "Baby number 1 is Betty Sue Grissom, and baby number 2 is Beverly Ann Grissom."

The nurse nodded with a smile before she turned around and walked away, and when Grissom's eyes met Sara's again, she nodded with a wider smile. "Thank you."

He nodded in return with his eyes sparkling. "You're welcome." Then he smirked. "You know mom is going to flip, right?"

Sara chuckled with a nod. "Yeah, but I'm sure in a good way."

Grissom just nodded again with another chuckle.

After a few moments of daughters/mommy time, Sara looked at her husband. "Your turn."

He cleared his throat and asked. "Yeah?"

"Yeah, come on daddy, hold your girls."

He took deep breath with a nod, so Sara looked up and asked one of the nurses if she could help them out, which she had no problem with it.

Once both baby girls were in his arms, and now that they were closer to him, his heart grew even larger for his children. He knew he was always going to love his children, he just didn't realize how much, how deep, that love could possible go.

He leaned down and kissed both of their heads lightly as he whispered while closing his eyes. "I already love you two so much."

While sitting up in the bed, Sara wiped a few tears off her cheek as she watched her husband fall in love with their children all over again, and it was a beautiful sight.

It wasn't very long after they got Sara back to her room that she, understandably, fell asleep, while Grissom sat in the chair and watched over his three girls.

Once they were all up and fed hours later, it wasn't very long before visitors were allowed, but since there was a four person limit, their family and friends had to take turns coming into the room to see the new Grissom girls, and of course their other three children and Mrs. Grissom was the first to come in the room.

The boys immediately ran towards the bed to give their father a hug and kiss before their attention turned to their sisters after Grissom placed them on the big bed while telling them to be careful.

As Arthur was speechless, trying to take in the fact that he was once again a big brother, this time to sisters, Roby smiled while saying. "They are so tiny."

They chuckled before Sara smiled. "Yes they are, just like you were when you born."

All Roby could say next was. "Wow, I've grown."

Causing another round of chuckling, then Sara looked at her oldest son, and asked softly. "Honey, do you want to say something?"

Arthur took a breath before he spoke, or at least tried to because he was filled up with so much emotion. "I uh, I don't know what to say."

Sara was a little surprised to see tears in her son's eyes, and before Sara could speak, Melissa did as she stepped closer to the bed. "It's a little overwhelming seeing a younger sibling for the first time, isn't it?"

Obviously he's seen his younger brother when he was first born, but he was a lot younger then, so he doesn't remember how he first felt, he just knew he was the older brother and his job was to protect him, now them.

After Arthur nodded, Melissa smiled while she ran her hand up and down her brother's back. "And it's ok, what else do you feel?"

He sniffled before replying. "Like I should protect them."

They all had tears in their eyes while Sara spoke with love. "Then that's perfect, because they are going to need their big brother." She then looked at Roby, who was now in his father's arms, and smiled at him. "Both of their big brothers to be there for them, to look after them, you think you can do that?"

Roby nodded with a smile. "Yes, mommy."

Sara nodded in return before looking at her oldest son, and he nodded, understanding more than his brother that this request needed a serious answer, while wiping some unexpected tears off his cheeks. "Yes, mommy."

Sara smiled wider. "Thank you, boys, and they couldn't ask for better protectors." Arthur smiled shyly as he looked down while Sara moved her eyes to her oldest daughter. "That includes their older sister, you know."

Melissa nodded with a smile with tears in her eyes, also feeling overwhelmed at seeing two more younger siblings. "Anytime they need me, I'm there."

After another moment, Melissa and the boys, which Melissa took Roby from their father and moved to the side to let their Grandmother come closer to the bed, and while the older woman was walking closer to it, Grissom signed with emotion in his eyes. 'Mom, I would like you meet two very special little girls, baby number 2 is Beverly Ann Grissom.' Betty did a small gasp at seeing the sign her son made before she got tears when he signed what baby number 1 was named. 'Betty Sue Grissom.' Betty placed her hand up to her mouth as she shook her head, causing Grissom to smile. 'Yes, we wanted to honor you and Beverly.' He then smirked. 'And we are sticking to it, so don't try and convince us...'

Betty shook her head again with a smile as she signed in return. 'Thank you, sweetheart, I am very honored.'

'You're welcome.' She cupped her son's cheek and 'spoke' with her eyes, and he understood with a smile. 'I love you too, mom.'

They kissed each other's cheek before she sat down in the chair, then Grissom took baby number 1, the little one with brown eyes, and a darker color of hair like her mother, from her mother, and kissed her on the forehead while whispering. "Hey, baby, it's now time you meet a very special woman, your namesake, your grandma." He kissed her forehead one more time before lowing her down into his mother's arms, which the little one did fuss a little, but this woman still had the natural touch of quieting a baby down.

While Mrs. Grissom held little Betty, Melissa got the honors of holding little Beverly, who looked like their father, with those blue eyes and lighter hair color.

Eventually Melissa and Grandma did switch babies, and enjoyed their time a little bit more before they left the room, with the promise that the boys can come back later, so the rest of the family members could see the newest additions, and while the others thought the names were sweet and liked them, it affected Sara's sisters as much as it did herself, knowing how much both women had meant to them as well.

Later that night

Once family and friends had their turns on seeing the new members of the Grissom family, and once it was about an hour into the evening time, Melissa showed back up at the hospital with the boys so they could be with their parents for the night, even though they were allowed to leave bright and earlier tomorrow morning.
But the boys missed them and Sara and Grissom missed their boys, so they didn't care.

After a few minutes of hanging out with her family, Melissa wished them goodnight and walked out of the room, then Roby, who was sitting on the big bed while Arthur was sitting in one of the chairs next to the bed, asked. "Can I hold little Beverly, mommy?"

Sara, who had Beverly in her arms while little Betty was in her bassinet close to her side of the bed, smiled with a nod. "Ok, but daddy is going to help you, alright?"

Roby nodded while Grissom picked him up and placed him in his lap, then as carefully as they could, Sara transferred her daughter into her son's arms, which Grissom had his arms under his helping him out, causing Roby to smile as he looked down at his little sister.

Sara watched the scene with warmness filling her heart before she looked over at her oldest son. "Honey, you want to come hold Betty?"

Arthur bit his lip, feeling nervous about it, not that he didn't want to hold his sister, but he was afraid of hurting her, so he slowly shook his head. "No, I uh..."

Sara cuts him off with a reassuring smile. "It's ok honey, I'll be right there with you."

He took a breath and nodded his head before he stood up from the chair, and as he was walking towards his mother's side of the bed, the hospital door opened and Melissa's head popped through. "Do you mind another guest for the night?"

Both parents looked surprised as Sara replied. "Of course not, but I thought you left?"

She walked into the room with a smile. "Yeah I was going to, but Deion must have sensed my sadness of not being here with you guys, so he told me to get out of the car."

They chuckled before Grissom spoke with a smile. "You got a good man, there."

Melissa chuckled again with a nod as she headed for the chair Arthur had just left while she watched Arthur get on the bed before Sara helped him hold little Betty, causing him to also smile.

A few minutes later, Roby was tired of holding his sister so he asked his older sister if she wanted a turn, and she jumped at the chance, holding her sister in her arms as she sat back down in the chair.

A few hours later with Melissa asleep on the cot they brought in the room for her, their youngest daughters in their beds next to the big bed, and the boys on each side of Sara so Grissom could have an empty spot just in case his daughters needed him and he could be quick to getting them, Grissom was laying on his side, watching his family sleep, a moment later, he sees Sara's eyes open and they just looked at one another, having a silent conversation with just their eyes, almost like they were reading each other's minds perfectly.

'Shouldn't you be asleep?'

Grissom nodded with a smile. 'Soon, I want to stay up just a little big longer to take this scene in.'

She nodded in return with a smile of her own. 'Pretty amazing, huh?'

'Very much.' Sara's next nod was interrupted with a yawn, causing Grissom to look at her with concern. 'You should get some sleep.' After one more nod, he finished with eyes saying. 'I love you.'

Sara raised an eyebrow as if to ask. 'What?'

He said the same thing with his eyes, but he got the same response from her, so he shook his head with a smile before holding up one of his hands so he could give her the 'I love you' sign.

Her face turned into a smirk/pursed lips as if to say 'I know, I was just teasing you.' He smirked in response before her face became a little more serious as she mouthed. 'I love you too. Sweet dreams'

After he nodded, she cuddled her boys closer to her and closed her eyes.

Once he made sure his wife fell back asleep, he gets off the bed as softly as he could so he could check on his girls, including moving the blanket up further for his oldest before going back to the bed and laying down, never feeling as peaceful as he did in this moment as he joined his family in to dream land.
