Post Game 8: Union

Three months before the wedding

"Do I really have to do this?" Tangle asked.

"You put this off long enough! Just be thankful we found someone that is willing and able to get this done in three months!" Amy said. "Now, hold still!"

"Seriously… this has to be the worst part of all of this…" Tangle groaned out.

"Tangle, you HAVE to wear a wedding dress!" Amy said. "Think of it like your first date, you don't want Tails to be super dashing in a tux, yet you just look like you always do, do you?"

"I know… I know…" Tangle said. "Doesn't make me hate it any less…"

"Just bear with it for a while." Jewel said. "Who knows, maybe you'll like it in the end!"

"I doubt it…" Tangle sighed.

After a couple of hours, they were just about set.

"Ok, that should just about do it!" The dressmaker said.

"Finally… now get me outta this thing!" Tangle said.

"Actually… is it alright if I make one last suggestion?" Jewel suddenly said.

She then pulled out a small box, and opened it up to reveal a small, yellow gem.

"What's that?" Amy asked.

"Something very important to me and Tangle… you do recognize it, don't you?" Jewel said.

After looking at the gem, Tangle remembered something.

"Geez Tangle… can we just go back?" A young Jewel asked.

"Come on! There has to be something really cool in this cave!" The Young Tangle replied. "We just gotta find it!"

"But you almost got hurt three times already!" Jewel said.

"Yeah, but I didn't!" Tangle said.

"Because I had to save you!"

Tangle didn't say anything at that, and just looked at her friend with a smirk before she continued to walk.

After a bit of walking through the cave, they saw something shining in the wall.

"What's that?" Tangle asked as she went over to it. "Hey! Help me dig this out!"

"Oh… alright…" Jewel said as the two got digging.

After a bit, they finally got the object out of the wall.

"Wooooow!" Tangle said. "What is it?"

"It's a gem I think…" Jewel said. "It's… so pretty…

"Well, I say this was worth it!" Tangle said. "Let's go home!"

"Right…" Jewel said.

"How could I forget? The first gemstone we found together!" Tangle said.

"I never put this on display at the museum, it was too important and personal for me to do that." Jewel said. "We always talked about using it for something important when we were kids… and your wedding fits the bill, don't you think?"

"Jewel…"

"We were always like family weren't we… So, I want to contribute something, anything to making this day special to you." Jewel said. "After all, that's what sisters do!"

Tangle rubbed some tears out of her eyes, before using her tail to pull the beetle in for a hug. "You are the best sister a girl could ask for."

"So are you." Jewel said. "So, any way we can put this in there?"

"Hmmm… I suppose." The dressmaker said. "It should be easy to put it on the dress, or would you rather a bracelet?"

"On the dress." Tangle said.

"Very well."

"You know… I guess you were right." Tangle said. "I am gonna like this in the end."

Wedding day

"So… this is it huh?" Sonic asked as Eggman gave him the box.

"Yup, that's it." Eggman said. "And as promised, I will not be causing trouble today."

"Thanks Eggman." Sonic said. "I WILL be having Tails analyze this to make sure it isn't a bomb though."

"Understandable." Eggman said. "Now go, you have a fox to help get ready, do you not?"

"Right. Later Eggman!" Sonic said before running off.

After running for a while, Sonic arrived at Tails' home.

"Hey, I'm back!" Sonic said as he walked in. "How you feeling?"

"Nervous… really, REALLY nervous!" Tails said.

"Don't be, everything is gonna go great!" Sonic said. "That being said, we should check this for a bomb…"

"Wow, you weren't kidding when you said that Eggman got a gift ready." Tails said.

"Yeah… I could never really read that guy…" Sonic said.

Tails then put the box in a capsule to get scanned.

"Alright, let's get you in that tux while that is getting taken care of." Sonic said.

"Right."

A bit later, they were ready.

"So, there's no bomb or weapons of any kind it seems." Tails said. "So I guess it's safe."

"That's good. Alright, lets get going and make this a day to remember!" Sonic said.

"Uh… actually Sonic, can I just ask you something real quick?" Tails asked.

"Sure, what's up?" Sonic asked.

"I realized that I never asked how you feel about all of this… do you think it's too soon? Do you think I should of waited a while first?" Tails asked.

Sonic smiled at this, of course Tails would be worried about what the hedgehog thought.

"Let me tell you something a good friend of mine once told me." Sonic said. "The timing shouldn't matter, as long as it feels right, you should just follow your heart."

A bit of a paraphrase, but it had the same meaning as to what the future Tails said.

"At least you aren't still a teenager!" Sonic said with a laugh.

"Yeah… that would be really weird." Tails said, joining in.

"Anyways, I have more to say, but I'll save that for the best man speech later." Sonic said.

"Fair enough." Tails said. "Let's get going."

And with that, they were off.

"Alright, I have been told by several people that I should get this done quickly, as to avoid Sonic running off to who knows where." Knuckles said, being rewarded with laughter. "And also so that Tangle doesn't have to deal with being in that dress for longer than she needs to."

"THANK YOU!" Tangle shouted, earning another laugh.

"Why did we agree to let Knuckles do this?" Sonic asked Amy.

"He's the most trustworthy guy we know that is at least somewhat qualified to do this." Amy explained.

"Blaze is a princess, wouldn't she be qualified?" Sonic asked.

"We asked her, but she said she wasn't into ceremonies like this, so she never really looked into it." Amy explained.

"Great… let's hope he doesn't mess this up…"

'Then again, he probably did it in the other timeline, so I guess it'll be fine.' He thought.

The ceremony itself came and went without any issues… though Tails really had to pull himself together when he saw Tangle in her dress.

During the party afterwards though…

"So uh… do you know what Eggman gave us at all?" Tangle asked.

"Not a clue... though we do know it isn't dangerous." Sonic said.

"That's good…"

"… You know you CAN open it now if you want… right?" Sonic asked. "I mean, you're gonna open it at some point, and if it is somehow still a trick, better to get it outta here now than later."

"Alright… if you say so." Tails said as they opened it up.

Inside was a note and a box.

Inside the box, was a Chaos Emerald.

"He… gave us a Chaos Emerald?" Tails asked. "Wow… that is… really out of character for him."

"Maybe the note explains this." Sonic said as they began reading.

Dear Fox Boy,

I suppose you are surprised at the gift I gave you. It is not a trick, that is a real Chaos Emerald. It is a special one though. That Chaos Emerald is the same as seventh one that I had discovered to be on West Side Island. You could say that this emerald is the very reason that you and Sonic met, the start of your journey together, and what eventually led to this day.

As for why I am so willing to give you an emerald, well, I told this to Sonic, but I will tell you as well. Though we had been enemies, I was able to watch you grow into the man that you are today. I am proud of you fox boy, and I am sure your parents would be as well.

I am sure you are wondering why I would bring them up, and I actually have some interesting information about them.

They are in fact alive. I have an old log of two adult foxes that I had captured on that island during my first invasion, and they had similar characteristics to you. I hope that this will drive you to maybe find them some day, and get the closure that you wish to have on their whereabouts.

I wish you both the best, in your futures…

But be ready, cause I will not be holding back the next time we meet!

Dr. Ivo Robotnik, aka, Dr. Eggman.

When they were done reading, Sonic and Tangle looked at Tails to see some tears threatening to leave his eyes.

"They… really are alive…" Tails said.

"I guess so." Sonic said. "How about we go looking for them later, all three of us?"

"Yeah… I'd like that." Tails said with a smile.

Once Tails was out of earshot, Tangle leaned towards Sonic and began to whisper.

"So… what's the plan with his parents anyways?" She asked.

"I'm gonna cue them in during my speech." Sonic said. "Good to know that he really will like it though."

"Yeah, good thing." Tangle said. "Speaking of the speech though, you should probably get ready for that."

"Right, wish me luck!" Sonic said before getting into position. "Alright everyone, take a seat, cause I have some things I need to say."

"Oh great, here we go!" Knuckles said as he took a seat.

After a moment, Sonic started talking.

"So, I guess this is the part I reminisce, and embarrass poor Tails here." Sonic said.

"Oh great…" Tails said from his seat.

"Well, I guess we can start with a story that I don't really get to tell often, how we met." Sonic said. "You see, I was just running around this island, minding my own business, looking into what Eggman was doing here, when I decided to return to my plane to plan my next move. Little did I know, a certain two tailed fox beat me to it. Said two tailed fox thought it would be a good idea to not only give it a checkup, but also completely repaint it without me knowing!"

"Hey! You said you liked the blue instead of the red!" Tails said.

"I did, but you were kinda silly deciding to do that on your own." Sonic said. "Regardless, little did I know, that this little fox would become a lifetime friend, someone that I would consider family after a point. To be honest, I'll never forget the day that he first called me his brother. It was after he had just saved Station Square from Eggman, who was planning on, well, blowing it up! A local news station came to his workshop and wanted an interview. Now, I was already really proud of him for what he did, but when he called me his brother during that interview… well, I was beyond happy at that."

"Sonic…"

"It wasn't always perfect, nothing ever is." Sonic continued, remembering their time on the Lost Hex. "But I don't think I would be standing here today if it wasn't for him. I'm proud of you buddy…"

Tails didn't say anything, just wiped some tears out of his eyes, and smiled.

"Now, let's talk about Tangle a bit." Sonic said with a grin.

"Oh boy… here we go…" Tangle said.

"You may be thinking, geez, what does he have on her?" Sonic said. "Well, not much. We didn't really meet until after the whole Phantom Ruby war… or did we?"

"Wait, what's he talking about?" Tails asked.

"Oh no… don't tell me he…"

"You see, I was one day doing a run around where Spiral Hill was, quite some time before we had met." Sonic said. "And I distinctly remember a big, grey, ball of fluff next to a bunch of kids that were trying to pick a fight with a badnik."

"He did…"

"So Tangle, I gotta ask… How's that Tangle fan club coming along?" Sonic asked the lemur.

"UUUUUUGH!" Tangle groaned out as her face went into the table.

"Wait, what?!" Tails asked with a laugh.

"I was just a kid, jealous of what he was doing at the time… some of the other kids started a fan club for him, and I kinda just… spoke without thinking." Tangle explained.

"Oh, wow." Tails said. "Nothing to be embarrassed about, we all did dumb things when we were kids."

"Like you telling Eggman about our plan on the Ark?" Sonic asked.

"HEY!" Tails said. "That was a cheap shot Sonic!"

"Just telling the truth bud!" Sonic said.

At this point, Rosemary and Amadeus peeked out from a nearby bush. With everyone's eyes fixed on Sonic, only he noticed them.

"So, to end off, I just want to say, I wish you both the best. Take care of him when I can't Tangle, I'll be counting on you." Sonic said.

"You got it, big bro." Tangle said with a smirk.

"And… I hope you don't mind Tails… but I am gonna give you your gift a little early." Sonic said.

"Huh?" Tails said. "Wait, what is he…?"

Sonic then looked off into the distance, and everyone followed his gaze.

It took Tails a moment, but he finally noticed the two foxes coming out from the bushes.

"No… no way…" Tails said as he got up from his seat.

Everyone else slowly began to catch on to what was happening, as Tails looked to Tangle, who simply nodded to him.

"Guess we didn't have to look far, huh?" Sonic asked.

Tails then began to walk, then run.

Finally, it became a full on sprint until he practically leapt into his parent's arms.

"I… I thought you didn't care! I-I thought you were dead!" Tails cried out.

"We're so sorry Miles…" Rosemary said as she continued to hug her son.

"You… you have a lot of explaining to do, you got that?!" Tails said.

"Of course. We can talk later though. I believe you were in the middle of a wedding?" Amadeus said.

"Right, of course! I gotta introduce you to Tangle!" Tails said. "Oh, and everyone else too!"

"Yes, we would love that, but it can wait til later." Amadeus said.

The three then made their way back to the group, who was currently giving them an applause, much to Tails' embarrassment. The fox in question then proceeded to hug his older brother.

"Thank you… thank you so much…" Tails said.

"Thank Tangle, she was the one who allowed it." Sonic said

Tails then looked over to his wife, who just smiled back at him.

"You two are the best, you know that?" Tails asked.

Sonic and Tangle just smiled at the fox.

After a bit, Sonic took a seat.

"So that's what you had planned this entire time!" Amy said.

"You knew I was up to something?" Sonic asked.

"Yeah, I noticed that you were kinda giddy about something since the reception started, and I know you normally aren't big on public speaking, sooooooo…" Amy said.

"Hey, I was actually excited for the speech before I found his folks." Sonic said. "But yeah, finding his folks and reuniting them… I was real excited for that."

"You did a great thing…" Amy said, though, she was looking at Tails and Tangle with a bit of… envy?

"… You know, I feel like dancing... maybe you would care to join me?" Sonic asked.

"Are you asking me to dance with you?" Amy asked back.

"Maybe." Sonic said with his signature smirk.

"Well, don't mind if I do." Amy said as the two went over to the impromptu dance floor.

Sonic then looked over to Tails and Tangle and smiled.

He really was proud of his lil bro.

The Next Year

"I'm here!" Sonic said as he opened the door.

"Shhhh." Tails said. "He's asleep."

Sonic then quietly walked over to see the small, sleeping, two tailed fox in Tangle's arms.

"He's so small…" Sonic said.

"That's what baby's are… small." Tangle said. "Also, very painful, do not recommend."

"Yeah, I can imagine." Sonic chuckled out. "So… can I hold my nephew?"

"Sure." Tangle said as she carefully handed the baby over to Sonic.

"Hey Skye, I'm your Uncle Sonic!" Sonic said.

After a moment of just… holding the baby, Sonic handed him back to Tangle.

And he immediately thought something was up.

"Uh… why are you looking at me like that?" Sonic asked.

Tails just laughed at this. "Sonic, be honest with me here… did you time travel at some point?"

"Uh… yeah? Multiple times, you know this!" Sonic said.

"No, I mean, did you travel to the future, and find out what was going to happen to us?" Tails asked.

"Wh-What?!" Sonic asked, struggling to be as quite as possible. "W-what makes you say that?"

"Dude… we never told you that we were planning on naming him Skye." Tangle said.

"You sure? No, I must of heard you mention it at some point." Sonic said.

"Nope, we made sure not to around you." Tails said. "I've had a hunch for a while now, to be honest."

"Really?" Sonic asked.

"Yeah, the dead giveaway was your little speech about Tangle at the wedding." Tails said. "She might of asked around town… had me make a lie detector, non-painful and completely auditory by the way… and asked everyone if they told you about that. When we found out that no-one did, I thought about how much you seemed to kinda… push for me to get together with her, then it kinda just all fit together."

"Your little slip up about how you went to the future all those years ago also helped." Tangle added.

"I… see…" Sonic said. "You… aren't mad, are you?"

"Why would I be mad?" Tails asked. "You took that information, and used it to make us happy, didn't you?"

"Uh… yeah, I did." Sonic said.

"Then I have no reason to be mad." Tails said. "You always mean well, and I know it… so thanks, big bro."

"Heh… you're the married man with a kid now… you can call me little bro for a bit." Sonic said.

"That… doesn't make sense…" Tails said with a laugh.

"Doesn't have to, I just happen to know that you always wanted to say it… cause you know, time travel." Sonic said.

"Right…" Tails said before pulling Sonic into a hug.

"Thank you, little bro."

The True End

And so, it finally comes to an end.

So, let's talk about the future!

This is the end of this story, but not the end of this universe that I made. There are still more stories to tell, stories that are much too grand to be just an add on to this one. I already have plans for three more stories in this universe, not to mention the fact that 8 Years later is finally starting up soon after a couple of years of planning and drafting.

8 years later is gonna be a rather long story, probably not as long as this one in terms of chapter number though. It is going to be a while till that story is done too. That will be started the week after "From Future to Past?" is done.

The other story I am going to start posting is called "The Lemur and the Wolf." If you are fans of Tangle and Whisper, then I am hoping to make you happy with this one. Other than that, I want the other two stories to be a bit of a surprise.

Both stories are going to start up soon, and I will be posting them just like I have been with this story and From Future to Past, meaning every Saturday unless I decide otherwise, and alternating between the two stories I post.

Next, I want to talk about this story a bit more, give a little behind the scenes kinda thing.

I mentioned a while back that I was thinking about restarting this story from the start. I already mentioned the thing with Silver and Whisper, and how Tails and Tangle wouldn't be together yet, but there is just a bit more to it than that, namely, Tails' Phantom Ruby illusions. I was going to make it so that, instead of it being an ability that he could just use at will, I was going to have him make a device that uses a ruby prototype to do it. Truth be told, I still kinda like this idea more than him just having the power. Why am I mentioning this though? Well, someone else might want to use a illusion using Tails in their story one day, so it may help them out a bit if I gave my own thoughts on the idea. So yeah, just thought I would mention it for that reason.

Also, you may be thinking that the timing of the wedding and Skye's birth doesn't line up with what we saw in the future… I mean, in the future, the wedding took place two days after the proposal. Here, it takes place about ten months later. So… yeah, that's why.

Anyways, I do want to include an extra scene that I literally thought of the night before posting this, and as such I couldn't really think of a good place to put it… so here you go! I hope you enjoyed this story, cause I sure enjoyed writing it :)

Extra scene

"So… do you know what his first words are going to be?" Tails asked Sonic as they were eating.

"Nope, the other you never told me." Sonic said. "Probably something like 'dada' though."

"Yeah, probably."

Eleven months later

"Dude, he isn't even a year old yet, I don't think Chili Dogs are a good idea." Tails said.

"Come on Tails! I just know that he would love a good chili dog!" Sonic said.

"Yeah, but chili dogs aren't exactly the healthiest thing, are they?" Tails asked. "I want him to be healthy, that's all."

"Oh come on dude, just one chili dog, what's the harm?" Sonic asked.

"Chiwi dawg!"

"You have got to be kidding me…" Sonic said with a laugh.

"You know, considering this family, I shouldn't be surprised." Tails said.

The two then burst into laughter, as Skye tilted his head in confusion as to what was going on.

"Uh… what's so funny you two?" Tangle asked as she entered the kitchen.

"Chiwi dawg!" Skye said.

And Tangle couldn't contain herself as she joined in on the laughter.
