Last Chance
Dinner was amazing and the ladies were all full.
"I am seriously worried that I am not going to fit into my wedding dress after that meal!"
"Everything was delicious!" Platt added.
"Well then let's go and dance it off!" Vanessa chimed in.
"Kim, you feel up to it?" Hailey asked.
"I think so though I doubt I will be dancing much! But I would love to hear some music! So let's hit it!"
The place was not quite as packed as the previous night. Kim danced a little with the ladies then excused herself to the table near the bar to have a drink and rest her ankle.
All of a sudden a drink appeared and there stood Roman smiling.
"Didn't think I would see you back here again tonight." He said.
"Brought you another drink. Looks like you are almost out."
"Thanks Roman but I don't think this is a good idea."
"What? Can't I buy my ex partner a drink and congratulate her on her upcoming wedding? When's the big day anyway?"
"Two weeks."
"So you're excited? I mean you sure this is what you want? I mean this could be your last chance to bail!"
Kim was furious. "You know Roman. I am happy. Happier than I have ever been. In fact, if I hadn't listened to you years ago, Adam and I could have been happily married for years. I can't believe how manipulative you still are. Thanks for the drink but I don't need it. In fact, I don't want or need anything from you. So please leave me the hell alone." Kim's voice was louder than she expected. She saw the girls turn towards her. Platt made a beeline for Kim with fire in her eyes. She was so done with Roman and his shenanigans.
"Roman, back off. Kim doesn't need this and frankly neither do you. Adam will kick your ass if he knows you are bothering Kim."
"Not my intentions. Sorry Kim, Trudy... I will leave you all alone. My bad."
"You okay Kim?" Platt asked.
"Yeah. Sean continues to question my relationship with Adam. I don't care what he thinks. It's just. It makes me mad that I let him ruin a great relationship with Adam 4 years ago when he manipulated me into thinking Adam didn't want to marry me. I was stupid then but I have no intention of falling for his snide innuendos now. Makes me mad at myself all over again. I hurt Adam and for what? Stupid accusations that were planted in my head."
"Kim... stop beating yourself up. Mistakes were made all around. But you guys came back together. You got sidetracked for awhile but you guys got back on course."
"Trudy, what if I can't give Adam a baby. Will he hate me? Will he want to even be with me?"
"You listen hear young lady. Adam Ruzek can be a thorn in my side but that man loves you more than words can express. He is the most loyal person I know. He would never leave you. Sure he probably wants kids, so do you. But you gotta quit worrying about it and let it happen naturally. You will both be terrific parents. And well I, hell I will be the best aunt ever! Now come on... one more dance before last call. Then we will head back to the suite."
"Trudy. Thank you. Thank you for always being in our corner." Kim hugged her tightly.
"Oh hell Burgess. You gonna make me cry!"
They headed back to the suite and called it a night knowing that tomorrow morning they had to leave.
"Burgess...Burgess... wake up. We got about an hour before we have to leave!", Platt shook her lightly.
"Ugh... I just want to sleep!" Kim moaned.
"Well too bad skinny britches! We got to roll! I'll go make some coffee. You get moving!"
Trudy slipped out of the room into the kitchen. She met Upton and Rojas there. "Well?". Upton whispered. "All good I think!" Trudy nodded.
"What time did Adam say he would be here?" Vanessa asked.
"I think he should be here in half an hour." Trudy said.
"Kim will be excited. I can't believe Adam thought to surprise her like this.", said Vanessa.
"He said he wanted a mini-moon before these last 2 weeks. Kim will be like a tornado. She will be trying to work plus get everything done. This will be a good distraction even if it is for 2 days. Lord knows those 2 have had enough lately." Platt added.
"Ok...I say we take our stuff down quietly and wait for Adam to arrive." Hailey said.
Rojas peeked in on Kim and she was fast asleep. Kim could usually sleep through anything and for once they were glad! It gave them time to do a few things.
Kim fell back asleep for what seemed to be 20 minutes. She heard some rustling in the kitchen and knew she had to get up. She looked at the clock. It was only 9 so what was the rush. They had to 11 to vacate but maybe the girls needed to get back soon.
Kim went to the restroom and brushed her hair.
She walked back out and saw a tray of breakfast on the bed.
Awww... what a nice surprise she thought. She went to open the bedroom door to thank them.
"Guys... thanks for the ... Adam!"
She screamed.
Adam was standing there grinning from ear to ear.
"Surprise darling!"
"What, how, why?" Kim stumbled then flew into his arms. She kissed him hard and fast.
When they pulled away breathless Adam spoke.
"I arranged it with Platt to give us an extra day for a mini-moon. I wanted to surprise you. So you and I have one more day in this magnificent place to relax and love each other. I know you. When you get back, it will be full on wedding mode. I just want to enjoy this time and I don't want you worrying."
"Oh Adam, I love you for this! Did the girls already leave?"
He nodded... "They did. Platt ordered us some breakfast before they left. So I say I get you back to bed. We will eat then I can love you properly. I've missed you!"
Adam picked Kim up and took her back to the bedroom. He laid her down gently then crawled on top.
"We better eat first before this gets cold. " Kim smiled.
"I am so hungry but not for food." Adam kissed her hard.
As if on cue Kim's stomach growled.
They both laughed.
"Heard and understood. Let's get you fed! You're going to need your energy."
Kim woke up first. They had fallen back asleep after their morning. She turned so she could look at Adam but didn't want to wake him up. She loved him more and more each day. He had stood by her all these years. She regretted so many things. For that she was sad. She was sad for what they had missed. But she couldn't wait to become Mrs. Adam Ruzek. She reached out and touched his cheek. Adam smiled and pulled her close.
"What cha thinking about? He asked.
"That this was just what we needed. A little time to ourselves before we get caught up in the last minute craziness of a wedding."
"That was my plan darling. To get you to forget everything else and concentrate on us!" Adam pulled Kim closer and started kissing her neck.
Kim was in a bliss. "Hmmm". Was all she could get out.
Adam chuckled, "come on babe. up and at em. We need to shower. We have a day of activities planned."
"What kind of activities? I figured it was just this?"
"Oh trust me, we have more of this. But I planned for us to go out and explore this quaint little town then have an early dinner."
"This has been nice. But I am excited to get home."
"Really?"
"Yes, the sooner we get home the closer we are to saying I Do!" Kim gave him a peck on his nose and swung her legs over the side of the bed.
They ate a late lunch at the hotel then set out to walk through the town. They shopped for several hours. Kim picked up a few things she needed for the wedding. They found a few things Kim liked for decor in their house.
As they were walking out of the antique shop, Adam literally bumped into Roman.
"Excuse me," Adam replied to the man. He just realized who it was.
"Adam! Hey man how are you? Congrats on the impending wedding." Sean didn't wait for a response. "Kim, how's the ankle?" Sean immediately looked at her ankle as if to be able to tell.
"Oh fine, thanks for asking." Adam held her hand tighter and pulled her close.
"I hate that happened to you the other night. I should have hit the prick. I didn't know you were up here Ruzek."
"Sure am. Got here today for us to enjoy a night together." Adam tried to force a kind tone but was failing.
"Yeah, it's beautiful here. My uncle has a cabin so I moved here right after the incident with my sister. Thinking of settling down here and taking up roots."
"Well good for you. We gotta run but take care of yourself." Kim added trying to steer Adam out of that situation.
"Hey Adam," Roman yelled at them. Adam turned around. "Congrats on the wedding. Looks like the best guy won." Sean turned and walked away without waiting for a response.
"I sure did", Adam whispered under his breath while he pulled Kim in with a kiss to her temple. "I sure did!"
