A/N: I'm divvying up their battle between three chapters, so there should only be around two more chapters, and I am determined to finish this fic so I can start my future projects.
"Welcome fans, to the final battle of this year's Kalos League. And for our last battle, we have an exciting showdown of two best friends who double as rivals. On one side of the field, we have the son of the Petalburg City Gym Leader, and soon to take that mantle for himself, we have one of Hoenn's finest, Max Maple."
The crowd cheered, and I realized how much I severely underestimated his fangirls. They were screeching louder than a group of Zubat using Supersonic, just more annoying. He didn't mind though, he smiled and waved, Max was always cool under pressure and this was just more proof that he was.
"And his opponent, one of Kalos's premier coordinators and battlers who hails from right here in Lumiose City and also happens to be related to our Gym Leader here and a personal friend of both Champion Ash and Kalos Queen Serena, we have Bonnie."
That announcer made me sound so much cooler than I actually was. I didn't have as many fans compared to Max, but my Contests and Leagues had given me a very dedicated following.
"Okay, this final battle will be a six-on-six battle, the battle ends when one competitor's Pokemon are all unable to battle. Please choose your first Pokemon."
"Mightyena, I choose you," Max yelled.
"Pyroar, let's do this," I said.
Both Pokemon started snarling, they'd been rivals since they were Poochiena and Litleo.
"Okay, Battle Begin."
"Mightyena, use Crunch."
"Dodge it, then use Hidden Power."
The silver-grey, hyena-like Pokemon lunged forward, teeth bared. Pyroar gracefully leaped out of the way as Mightyena snapped at him and opened his mouth, forming a blue orb and firing it directly at Mightyena, making a thud when he fell back onto the field.
"You okay Mightyena?" Max called. He was playing it careful, checking in with his Pokemon every time they took a hit, we both would be taking a risk if either of us lost a Pokemon.
Mightyena nodded, I saw Max consider the idea of pulling him back before shaking his head, "Let's keep going then."
"Fire Blast!" I shouted.
"Mightyena, dodge then use Ice Fang."
Pyroar's fire turned into a star shape, making a fwoosh sound as the ball exploded. Mightyena lunged out of the way, his silver fur becoming slightly raggedy and black as the fire singed it. Mightyena once again bared his teeth, his fangs began to glow blue as bolts of ice shot towards the Royal Pokemon.
"Cancel it with Fire Blast," I shouted.
Pyroar began preparing the fire but Mightyena's Ice Fang made contact. It was Pyroar's turn to fall to the ground with a thud, but with a grace that Mightyena didn't show.
Max pondered over his next move as Pyroar stood back up.
"You doing okay?" I asked.
Pyroar nodded and turned back to Mightyena, who almost seemed to be smirking, a dangerous and subtle way to provoke Pyroar.
Is that Max's strategy? I wondered, we were both known for thinking outside the box in battles, but my skill in that had declined since I had to adhere to the rules of Contests, and I wouldn't put it past him, he could always give himself some kind of advantage.
"Fire Fang!"
"Dodge it then use Dark Pulse."
Mightyena's fangs turned ablaze as he lunged forward, snapping at Pyroar's tail, which he missed. Pyroar lowered his head and fired a Dark Pulse at Mightyena, straight at his forehead.
"Might," Mightyena cried as he regained his footing. Max bit his lip, debating whether or not to pull Mightyena back.
"Do you want to keep going?" Max asked, giving a choice. Mightyena winced and nodded. He was determined to beat his rival.
"Okay, use Thunder Fang," Max yelled. Mightyena's fangs electrified, snapping and actually managing to bite down on Pyroar, electrocuting him.
"Pyroar, use Fire Blast," I shouted. The blast exploded practically on Mightyena's nose, I could tell that it hurt. His bite slackened, allowing Pyroar to pull his tail away, and he stumbled, before falling to the ground with a thud.
Pyroar stood in triumph before falling right afterward.
"And it's a double knockout, Bonnie and Max are one-for-one, and the excitement is real," the announcer said, his voice blaring over the loudspeaker. I narrowed my eyes, I couldn't think with the blaring.
"Go Braviary," Max yelled, releasing the Valiant Pokemon.
"Okay, Dedenne, let's do this," I yelled. Dedenne hopped out of his pocket in my bag, scampering onto the battlefield, shrinking back a bit in the shadow. Max narrowed his eyes, I had the type advantage and the more evasive Pokemon, but Braviary was stronger.
"Braviary, use Rock Slide," Max yelled. The Valiant Pokemon formed white orbs of energy that turned into large, gray rocks. Braviary flicked his colorful wings forward, launching the rocks down.
"Dedenne, dodge then use Volt Switch," I shouted. Dedenne scampered through the falling rocks, narrowly dodging the boulders. Once the last few started falling, Dedenne climbed up one of the boulders and started hopping between the falling rocks, jumping on the last one and sending a golden orb of electricity towards Braviary.
"Dodge," Max yelled. Braviary lowered in the air, giving Dedenne an opening.
"Use Nuzzle!" Dedenne landed on Braviary's wing, electrifying his cheeks and rubbing against Braviary's blood-red feathers.
"Brai," he cried as he was electrocuted. He fell back to the ground with Dedenne clutching his feathers. He tried to move his wings and winced in pain, Dedenne had managed to paralyze him.
Dedenne hopped off Braviary with a triumphant squeak. Max narrowed his eyes, the ref looked at him, and he flicked his eyes over to him, nodding.
"Braviary is unable to battle, please select a new Pokemon."
Max smiled, "Braviary, I can't ask you to keep going on, return." Braviary nodded and was returned to his Pokeball. His dark brown eyes were deep in thought, I saw his mouth move but couldn't hear anything, he was probably thinking out loud.
"Gallade, let's go!" Max shouted, throwing out Gallade's Pokeball. I flinched, I wasn't expecting Gallade until I got down to Squishy or something, not against Dedenne, but then again, Vikavolt and Milotic couldn't do much and he was saving Sceptile.
"Use Dig," I yelled, not focused.
Max smirked as Dedenne burrowed himself, "Psycho Cut on the ground," he shouted. Gallade jumped into the air, forearms glowing as he slashed the air, sending blue arcs to the ground. One of the arcs hit the ground and Dedenne was launched out of the ground, and I could tell he was in pain.
"Now, Ice Punch," Max said, snapping his fingers. Gallade's fist glowed blue, becoming coated in ice as he made contact with Dedenne, who fell to the ground.
"Dedenne is unable to battle." I grabbed Dedenne's Pokeball and returned the Antenna Pokemon.
"I'm really proud of you Dedenne, you're getting extra treats at dinner tonight," I said, clipping his Pokeball onto my belt. Max had returned Gallade, as I expected and he was waiting for me to make my move.
"So far we have witnessed two incredible battles, what else do these young trainers have in store."
A/N: Aka, if I hadn't cut it off here, the chapter would be late.
