It's been several years since I penned this fic and I'm overwhelmed by the response I've had - so many kind reviews and over 100 thousand views - wow! Thank you to every single one of you. I'm so pleased that it's clear through my writing just how much I love these characters.
While I've had a few people asking me to continue the story, this isn't something I ever plan on doing because I don't really have a clear picture of what Draco's life looks like after those moments detailed in my final chapter and, truthfully, I still don't like to think of him growing old without Astoria.
However, something I am considering is started a new thread, a home to a few one-shots.
Now, one thing I should point out is that my head canons have changed over the years, particularly after seeing the lovely James Howard play Draco, so if I do embark on a new project, it wouldn't quite be the same Draco and Astoria from this story. While neither character is drastically different from this depiction, I imagine their meeting to be different and their relationship for me develops slower romantically than it does in 'Draco and Astoria's Story'.
So, here is my dilemma.
On one hand, I get to spend some time delving back into the mind of a character I love dearly and hopefully please a few of you with more material, albeit not a continuation of this story; on the other hand, I'm nervous to put a slightly different portrayal of Draco out there, given how people really seem to enjoy this interpretation.
Basically, I wouldn't want people who enjoyed this story thinking that I think of it as being any less realistic because I don't - I just a) have way too many thoughts and head canons of Draco and b) have been lucky enough to have been influenced by more than one portrayal of him on screen/stage. Let's just say there are elements of this story that I have reimagined and believe those to be even more true to Draco's character.
I would really appreciate my fellow Draco/Astoria fans' thoughts on this prospect. If you do think this is a good idea, or you would be interested in reading some more Drastoria content from me, please drop me a message (or a 'review' if you're unable to contact me privately) with your thoughts and feelings.
If there are any parts of Draco's life that you're curious to see put into writing (I know I have wished for that from other writers), I would absolutely love to know and, from there, I can decide whether to publish a few new one-shots. I'm willing to consider content from Draco's early childhood and Hogwarts years through to his adult life, but nothing later in his life beyond the ending of the story I've written.
I look forward to hearing from you and, once again, thank you for reading - it really means a lot!
