Upon entering the chamber, the two peered out into the open emptiness. A pure void. Gohan warned Videl not to leave the living area yet. Even at full power, she would most likely collapse under the gravity in the void. She was training at 5x gravity in the chamber with some difficulty. 10x gravity would be brutal. After settling in, Gohan decided he would spend time training her on the outer edge of the living area. He would let her attack him while he dodged and blocked. After a few weeks of nonstop training he would let her test the gravity of the void. This turned out to be a wise decision as she could barely stand upon entering the gravity. In fact, if Gohan were not there for her to grab on to she would have fallen, crushed by her own weight. "Easy Videl, easy. This is REALLY heavy. We are going to stand here until you can't go any more, then you will rest. We will keep doing this until you don't need me."

The two followed this process daily and by the 5th day she could stand without Gohan's help. She was beaming with pride and began feeling there was hope for her. In the following days she began to walk and then even run in the gravity. Sure, it was still heavy, but her power grew. Gohan spent her acclimation time by continuing to train himself. He had gotten so used to having Goku helping him that it felt wrong somehow not having his dad with him. He would remain focused for Videl's sake. His focus bolstered hers and after a month and a half she was moving nearly as fast in 10x Gravity as she moved in normal gravity. This made him wonder why they were not pushing her harder in Bulma's chamber. She was capable of much more and this proved it. Maybe they just did not want to stress her, who knows.

Gohan began picking up the pace of her training and forced her to hone ki targeting skills, visual targeting skills, defense, offense and more. By the end of the 2nd month the 10x gravity was no longer a hinderance to her at all and her power, skills, and ki grew by leaps and bounds. If he had to guess, she was now capable of about a 1000 power level. Still obviously low, but she was a Saiyan. Her confidence also grew, and she began feeling hopeful. She could see that perhaps one day she could stand side by side with Gohan against the androids. They would talk every evening about their training, how they felt, what they wanted to do next. They took regular rest periods to ensure the best training results. By the end of the third month, Gohan figured she was somewhere around 5,000 and was at the point where he could start applying a little pressure to her. He was cautious though. If he accidentally went too hard on her he could do real damage.

Meanwhile, on the outside, Hercule felt helpless. He was missing out on his daughter's life and he knew it. Bulma went and sat with him, comforting him as she held her own little baby boy in her arms. Bulma asked him about the boy's mother, why she went to him, why she left her with him. He explained how she claimed to be an alien of some kind. She was hiding from some group that called themselves "the Ginyu Force". A group that worked for some tyrant named "Frieza". She said she was on assignment on a distant planet and had a baby while she was gone. This Frieza guy blows up her home planet and finally hears about it a few years later. She realized this was not the life she wanted for her daughter, so she left. After another year she finds out that the Ginyu Force and Frieza were destroyed by someone from Earth.

Hercule continued, telling Bulma how Videl's mother decided to come to Earth. If someone from Earth could destroy Frieza, what safer place could exist for her and her child? Hercule just so happened to see her pod crash. He helped her and the child out, fed them and gave them a place to stay. At first Videl's mother was grateful. She and Hercule were not exactly in love but there was a warmth. After a life filled with fighting and travelling, domestic life was nice. For a while. It only took about 6 months before she felt the need to go find other surviving members of the Saiyan race. At least that is what she said in the letter she left. She asked Hercule in that letter to take care of her daughter. She would come back some day. Hopefully. By the time Hercule found the letter, her pod was gone. And there he was with Videl. 4 years old wondering where mommy went.

Bulma's heart sank as she thought of this poor child's loss of her mother. She could not imagine abandoning Trunks for anything and suddenly she realized just how deep this separation from Videl was hurting Hercule. Videl lost her mom and now she would be without her dad for 2 years. Normally, Hercule was a bit obnoxious, definitely a loudmouth, and somewhat abrasive. Right now, however, she could see what a good man he really was. This began changing her views on him. Even when Vegeta was here he was not actually here for her and Trunks. Hercule, on the other hand, was a dedicated family man. Maybe he was not as bad as she initially thought.
