prompt by DracoSoull: previous prompt but Ryoali
It was three in the morning in Copenhagen, and Kurokiba Ryo was not digging it.
There was less than an hour and a half separating him from the love of his life, and he'd even offered to fly their Eclipse 550 over to Amsterdam to pick her up, but no, his wife had insisted on buying a round-trip commercial ticket so she could experience "the ways of normal people". Seriously, what was the point of buying a private hangar if they weren't even going to use it? Ryo had done his best to call her out on her bullshit and tell her that there were some peasant activities it was absolutely unnecessary for her to suffer through, but now she was in Schiphol, heaving her guts out into a fucking toilet. Not that either of them had anything against Amsterdam or its airport, but seriously, this was stupid. Fortune loved screwing with the lives of the Kurokiba Nakiris.
"Did you eat something bad?" He said anxiously over the phone, picking up his keys.
"I had the lobster thermidor you packed for me, but that's about it. There wasn't anything wrong with the f…"
Ryo sighed as Alice retched again.
"...uck," she croaked.
"What time is your flight?" Ryo asked, striding out onto their skydeck-turned-landing pad.
"It got delayed by three hours," Alice said after a beat, and Ryo could picture the disgusted pout on her face. "Bubs, remind me to never fly commercial again."
"Gotcha." He was already in the air.
Ryo touched down at the Nakiri hangar in Schiphol in just over an hour. He bolted for the terminal, blessing Alice for all the training for this exact moment she'd given him by requesting his presence within six seconds of her calling at any given time. Including when he was in the gym on the other side of the school.
"Alice!" He bellowed, ignoring the perplexed looks directed his way.
"Ryo-kun?"
Ryo whirled around and there she was, looking for all the world like a lost puppy. Forgetting that they'd been together just that morning, he rushed to her and yanked her to his chest like he hadn't seen her in years.
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to get you, obviously. The Eclipse is in the hangar."
Alice blinked. She said in a small voice, "Have I ever told you that I love you?"
The corners of Ryo's lips twitched. "Say it again." He scooped her up bridal style and began walking briskly back in the direction from which he'd come. "Are you feeling any better?"
"No, not really."
Ryo chewed on his lip. "So it wasn't the food, right?"
She shook her head. "Definitely not the food."
"Are you sick?"
"I'm not sick, Ryo-kun."
They remained in silence until Amsterdam was far behind them. Alice had been barfing in the cabin for a solid ten minutes when Ryo turned on auto-pilot and headed back to check up on her.
"Can I make you anything when we get back? Bisque?"
Alice shook her head. "I don't want to eat anything. Like ever again."
Well, that was an interesting way of putting it.
"Ryo-kun, do you think this is morning sickness?"
"It's five in the morning."
"Yes, that's my point. Wait, Ryo-kun, you don't think…?"
Ryo sat down in the seat next to her. "Definitely."
Looking uncharacteristically unsure of herself, Alice sighed and rubbed her face. "Are we ready for this? Am I ready for this?"
Kurokiba Ryo was not one for eloquent speeches, but seeing the individual that had given him everything his cooking could not — love, companionship, absolutely everything — start doubting herself before she even got the chance to kick ass per usual really did a number on him.
He lifted Alice's chin, turned her face to his, and began what had to be the most open statement he'd ever made in his entire life.
"Alice, I'm only saying this once, so listen to me. You are perfect, because you have your whole heart's worth of love to give. I will cherish both you and our children. They will not grow up in another's shadow, because you are the light that shines directly on them, understand? I need you to know that no matter what happens, our children are our universe, and I'll drop everything if it means I get to see you and the kids that will take after you smile. After everything you've done for me, after everything you've done to make yourself deserve me when in reality it's I who had to work to be worth your love, it's the least I can do. I'm not perfect, and maybe you aren't either although I personally couldn't tell perfection and Nakiri Alice apart even if I tried, but at the end of the day we're going to be raising our first child together and that is truly all that matters."
Alice wrapped her arms around him and pulled him in for a kiss, trying to express through her lips everything that words could not.
He ran his fingers through her hair and smiled in understanding.
I love you too.
"On second thought, Ryo-kun, I wouldn't mind some peppermint tea when we get back."
You're my universe.
