Travis's handwriting

Katie's handwriting

Chapter11

"So…"

Travis and Katie were both sitting in Chiron's living room, Travis with his feet up on the table and munching on cookies, while Katie looking like that one good kid who just got into trouble and had seriously disappointed everyone.

"So." Chiron looked at them disapprovingly. "I take it this has been going on for quite some time?"

Katie nodded guiltily, while Travis stuffed another cookie in his mouth. Katie glared at him, but he only shrugged in response.

"You should have not done that," he chided. "Simple pranks, I get it. It's in all Hermes children's genes, after all. But Katie? I never expected animal conversions from you, of all things." Katie ducked her head in shame, and Travis waggled a finger in her face.

"Bad kit-kat. Never expected this,"

It was taking Katie all she could not to punch him in the face right then and there.

"Honestly, stooping to my level?" he continued. Chiron looked sharply at him.

"Did you also do something of this sort, my boy?"

Travis nodded, still smirking lazily. Katie stared at him. The nerve.

"He turned me into a four-year-old," she elaborated at Chiron's stare.

The centaur sighed. "I was really, really hoping never to do this but…" he trotted over to one of the boxes and shuffled through it, eventually pulling out a small box.

"Once, Lady Aphrodite gave me these items. She told me to use them when unrest sparks, as being close to someone physically helps to be closer to them emotionally too."

Katie did not like where this was going at all.

Travis didn't like it much either.

Chiron opened the box, pulling out two bracelets- one pink and one blue. He handed the blue one to Katie and the pink one to Travis, who wrinkled his nose at it.

"We're not wearing that, are we? Cause it's pink. Men don't wear pink." He said in disdain.

Katie smirked. "Good thing you're just a boy, then,"

Travis scowled. Chiron waved at the bracelets, telling the two demigods to put them on. They did, the things clasping snugly around each of their arms. It didn't feel very different. Travis didn't like it much, though, for some odd reason.

"This will not let you go farther than a meter from each other."

Silence.

Travis made a strangled sound. "Oh, no. No no no no no no-"

Katie looked petrified. She tried to get up and move away, but she couldn't-like she was tied to him.

She was trying to unclasp it, but it just tightened around her wrist. She looked at Chiron desperately. "Get it off! Chiron, please get it off!"

The centaur just shook his head. "Don't worry- it will come out eventually. Once you two are good friends."

Katie groaned. "The day the gods start acting like normal parents. I'm gonna be stuck with this idiot for the rest of my horrible short life."

Travis snickered. If he managed to annoy Katie… well, this thing wasn't that bad. Annoying people was always a gigantic plus.

"This is not funny! At all!" Katie shoved him so hard he almost fell off the couch… but the stupid bracelet just tugged him back, making him fall on top of Katie. She shoved him away again, this time gentler so the yo-yo effect didn't happen again.

Chiron was smiling gently, and Katie didn't hesitate to glare at him too.

"What about when we need to sleep and poop?" Travis asked. Katie rolled her eyes at the bluntness.

Chiron chuckled, like that question-with the exact wording- was expected. "It's a magic bracelet. It will automatically expand when you need to excrete" Travis stifled a snicker-"and when you go to sleep. Again, it is magic, so it won't be tricked. Telling the bracelet won't do much."

Well, there goes pretending to have diarrhea and instead sneaking out of camp, Travis thought.

Suddenly a dark thought struck him.

"I won't be able to prank anymore!" he cried in distress. "My life is ruined! Katie, you better start to love me fast, or else I will die!"

Katie stared at him, partly in disgust and partly shocked.

"No… just no. To everything in those two sentences."

Chiron rose. "I think you both have a class now? Hermes to sword fighting and Demeter to archery? Well, since you both are tied up, why don't you go find something else to do?"

Katie laughed nervously. "You are kidding! Look, Travis, you and you siblings are rubbing off on Chiron…"

Silence.

Katie groaned. "I hate my life."

The two trudged out of the Big House, as far from each other as possibly can.

"This is so stupid," Katie muttered under her breath. "Why are we missing training for… friendship?"

Travis snorted. "So what do you think we should do?"

Katie shrugged. "I dunno, something."

Travis rolled his eyes. "How descriptive," he said sarcastically. "Should we ask my siblings? They might have something,"

Katie shook her head quickly. "Oh, no, they'll tease me to death! Nope, no thanks, we're asking my siblings."

"You siblings are boring!"

"Well yours are annoying!"

"Are not!"

"Have you seen them? And don't call me and my siblings boring!"

"Well, you are."

"Are not!"

"Ha! Have you seen them? Always don't get in trouble! Don't do that-"

"Well, there's a reason! Of course we don't want you to cover our Cabin in slime-"

"So boring! We just like to have fun!"

"We always get caught in the 'fun', and it's not funny!"

Katie was fuming. That little piece of Minotaur dung- always so dam irritating-

She shoved him and tried to walk off, but she had forgotten about the stupid bracelet. It held her back, pulling her back into the one-meter radius.

She let out a string of curses in Greek, wishing that the Stolls didn't exist, especially the one right behind her.

Travis sighed. He muttered out something, seemingly reluctantly.

"What?" Katie asked, her annoyance fading slightly once he repeated himself.

"I'm sorry… for calling you and your siblings boring, although you are,"

She blinked. Did he just say sorry?

Katie huffed out an apology too, still a little shocked that Travis Stoll had just said sorry.

"Since we have to deal with this, we kinda have to, you know, become friends? So, yeah." He explained awkwardly. Katie's expression softened.

"Makes sense," she agreed. "So… um… we could pick strawberries?" she suggested.

Travis rolled his eyes, biting back a this is what I meant by boring and painfully nodded his head.

Let the Try-Not-To-Fight Games begin.
