Chapter 13
I felt myself move with a newfound vigor as I attacked simultaneously with the huntress. Though for most, this attack would probably end in their death, the same could not be said with this monster.
The beast rushed forward and met both of us, deflecting us back with one hand each, forcing us to slide through the dirt to stop ourselves, forming large tracks.
I shook my head as I landed and spit out some blood that had come up.
I tried to think of ways to take down the beast. Seeing as how Zoe had literally blown its chest out, I doubted I, no we, could kill it without a shot to its heart.
I really didn't have even half the arsenal I had previously, limited only to my three weapons and my wits, but I had to make do.
I brought my scythe out in front of me and crouched down, inches away from the ground, ready to pounce.
The dog looked between me and Zoe, trying to determine which one of us was a bigger threat, but I already knew the answer. Zoe was definitely in much better shape then me right now, but I didn't show it, making the monster hesitate.
And that's when I struck. As soon as the dog made a move to look at Zoe, I pounced. With all my strength i stayed low to the ground and swiped at the beast, cutting up from its torso to its neck.
The dog hissed as it skin steamed, the special Stygian iron of my blade taking effect. I immediately jumped back to avoid the beast, getting away completely unscathed.
The monster attempted to pursue me, running at me with open claws, but it stopped in its tracks as two arrows hit each of its ankles , causing the beast to drop.
Though still durable as all hell, it was obvious Zoe's mega arrow had done its job, even if it didn't kill.
With the beast down, I made a second attack, slashing my blade across the dogs shoulders, halting it from getting up. I put my foot on the dogs now bleeding shoulder, pushing down and forcing him into the ground. I turned my blade around and slammed the blunt of my handle down on the monsters head.
I went to attack again, but was stopped as the monster shot out it's hand and grabbed my ankle. My eyes grew wide.
I tried to cut the monsters hand, but it was too late. With more energy then I thought, the dog stood up, dragging me by my leg. The dog stood straight up and had me hanging by my leg upside down.
I quickly tried to think of something, but Zoe came through. I heard Zoe load and arrow and watched as she cocked it back, this one with a serrated tip, and let it fly.
"Perseus...heads up!" I heard her yell behind the monster. I didn't know what to watch out for, but on instinct, I stuck out my hand.
It must of been fate because just as I reached out, I felt something fall in the middle of my hand. I gripped whatever was in my hand and brought it to my face to see what it was.
How the...
In my hand was the arrow Zoe had fired at speeds as fast as a bullet. My reflexes were on point, but to the point where I could catch arrows, and especially ones from a huntress of Artemis? Unheard of.
But I decided to capitalize on the situation. With my new weapon I stabbed down on the dogs hand, causing it to release its grip on my leg, dripping me to the ground.
I landed on my neck, but rolled forward to lessen the damage, but that also left me right in front of the beasts.
Now only inches away, I decided to go for a punch striaght to the beats chest with my metallic arm, hoping to stun the beast. Though it was a lot less mobile, there was do doubt that my prosthetic arm was much stronger and durable.
My arm made full contact with the beasts chest, causing it to take a step back and cough out a large wad of black blood.
As the beast was slow-mo going back, Zoe came from behind with her foot on the monsters neck and a knife in its skull.
The beast froze for a second, Zoe already off it's back. Visible shivers went through the monsters body, before it slowly fell forward, getting the ground with a thump.
I backed away from the corpse, wary of it coming back to life, and thankfully so.
The beasts body started to contort. The monster shook uncontrollably in a seizure like manner. After a moment, it stopped.
I was starting to think the beast had really died, when it started to move again, though this time in a weird manner. The monsters body started to cave in, dissolving in on itself, but not the way it did during death.
I watched as the beast body changed form, the mass being drawn in to the center of its body, slowly forming a new body. A second later the beast took the shape of a black ball, though it had a large hole in its side, probably from where the mega arrow had hit.
The monster, now in a bubbly blob form, floated up into the air.
"What the f..." I was beyond confused, truly wondering what this beast was.
The blob floated towards me, and something in me made me unable to move. Zoe fired arrows, attempting to stop the beast, but they were simply absorbed into the blob.
The organism made its way to me, now putting me face to face with the thing.
I watched as something shifted in the blob, and as of from a horror move, a face formed from the blob. From this face came a torso and some arms of a girl, the same color as the black blob. The face of this girl had a white bandage around its eyes, the same as the dog and bear/werewolf hybrid, confirming it was the same thing.
The girl reached her hands out and put them in each side of my face. I felt her long nails pierce my skin, causing a little trickle of blood to go down my face.
I stared into the place the girls eyes would be, determined to hold my ground. I could tell the beast wasn't trying to kill me just yet, merely intimidate, but I wasn't going to run. Despite that, I had a little bit of fear in my heart, tugging away at me.
"What are you." I said to the girl, hoping that she would speak in this form. But instead, the girl let out a low breathe, almost as if she was talking in whispers. The girls voice was high pitched, almost innocent.
But I wasn't fooled.
I knew this thing was a monster, capable of killing. In all honesty, it was one of the strongest things I've seen in the past couple days, and that said a lot seeing as how I was just with "him", the other day.
I was starting to think talking would be no use, when the girl smiled. Her little smirk grew from ear to ear before she leaned in. The girl put her lips to my ear and spoke.
My eyes widened as the girl, no, monster spoke. I felt chills go through my body.
I watched as the monster backed away, the smile still in her face. As if mocking me, the being raised it's hand and made a wavering gesture.
The blob floated a couple of meters into air, before it started to shrink, coming in on itself. Just as it reached the size of a basketball, the blob exploded, sending chunks of it in every direction, leaving me and Zoe alone, finally.
Zoe put away her bow once she had sensed that the being had left, and I would probably have been happy right now, if it wasn't for the words of the blob monster.
I fell backwards, sweat pouring from my face, mixing in with the blood. I felt myself breathing heavy, my heart feeling like it had just been sat on.
I was struggling to keep my eyes open, but then I realized that they were perfectly wide, but still I had darkness clouding my vision, till eventually I couldn't see or think.
