May 1963
I fall through the portal and onto the concrete with a yelp. Shit that hurt. I sit up slowly and look around, there's no one in sight. Where is everyone?
"Five?" I call as the blue portal closes. What the hell? Did they... leave me on purpose? No! They'd never do that... but my memory is messed up. Maybe I did something that made them mad.
"Guys, I don't know what I did. I'm sorry. Please don't leave me!" I shout at the dark sky. I run my fingers through my hair and slowly walk out of the alley.
I look down the street and see a lot of people wearing weird old fashioned clothes and staring at me. Where am I?
Slowly I walk down the street looking all around me. I see a theater, apparently a movie called 'Viva Las Vegas' is playing. Huh. That's- no! Stay focused.
I turn my head and look into a window, thats when I feel my jaw drop.
"Allison." I whisper. She's standing with a man and laughing slightly. She must know what's going on! I walk towards the door but before I can reach it someone grabs my wrist.
"Hey girly, got any money on ya?" He whispers. I struggle against his grip.
"No." I state as I try pulling my wrist out of his gloved hands. He shrugs his shoulders and tightens his grip.
"Oh well." He mutters as he loosens his grip. Is that it? Is he just gonna let me-
He punches me in the stomach and I double over then he knees my face. He begins to drag me into an alley way. I try to force him into a vision but he's still wearing gloves.
He throws me on the ground and kicks my stomach a few times before grabbing my shirt.
"C'mon you've gotta have something." He mutters as he grabs at my clothing. I begin kicking and screaming, no one is ever going to touch me like that again. People glance at us but just keep walking.
He pins down my arms but I kick him and he falls off of me. I stand and try to get away but I run into someone before I can.
"Ey! Wh't's-" whoever I ran into is cut off when the man leaps out and tries to grab me again. The man I ran into grabs him by the shirt.
"Oh... uh hey John. Um... can we let this slide? I mean, she kicked me pretty good so I've learned my lesson." The man who attacked me whispers quickly. I look at the man holding him up, John I guess, and realize he's a cop. He's a cop.
"I have to save Andrew."
A voice echoes in my head... my voice. But where did that memory come from?! Nothing happened to Andrew. He's back in 2019... when am I?
"You aright ma'am?" The offices slurs . I look up at him and realize the other man has already left. I look back at the officer and the strong smell of whisky hits my nose. He's maneuvering his weight from foot to foot. He's drunk. Really drunk.
"Oh, um... yes sir I'm alright." I say quickly. He looks me up and down and frowns.
"Do yu hav anywre tu go on a niht like this?" He asks his accent thickening with each word. Do I? I mean, I have Allison, but what if she doesn't let me in... She's my sister. They didn't leave me on purpose. I have to at least try.
"Yes sir I do." I say happily. He just stares at me.
"Ar yu sur' bout tha'?" He asks taking a step forward. My veins turn to ice, he thinks I'm lying.
"You kno'... y're pretty lucky I sav'd you. Yer close to bein a negro yerself." He mutters darkly. This bitch, this racist ass wipe is trying to say I'm lucky he saved me because he wouldn't if I was a different skin color?!
"Ho un posto dove stare. Ora lasciami in pace, maiale razzista." I mutter darkly darkly as I look away. I look back up at him and see staring at me confused. Oh, I guess he heard me. He lays a hand on my shoulder and somehow I tense even more.
"We're in 'merica lady, how bout you speak our language." He mutters darkly. I smirk slightly, so scared of anything different.
"Non puoi costringermi." I say back. Before I can blink there's a sharp pain that explodes on my cheek and my head whips to the side.
The officer grabs my wrist and begins dragging me down the sidewalk. I can't do anything to stop him because... well he's a police officer. I can't get involved with the law.
Next thing I know he's unlocking a door to a house, probably his house. When he opens the door he throws me inside.
"Yer lucky I'm not takin you intu the station. You could be a spy fer all I know." He growls as he kicks my stomach. I bite my tongue and try not to cry out.
"You do realize we're in the middle of a war right?!" He shouts as he kicks me again and I roll into a protective ball in an attempt to lessen the blows.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" I shout. He kicks me again and again and pain explodes through my body my ribs crack. I yelp slightly and lessen my hold on myself tighter.
"Yer lyin! The entire world knows wut's happenin!" He shouts as he kicks my head. Then everything goes dark.
Margie POV
I wake up to John yellin bout somethin and somethin fallin on the ground. I groan and sit up. I was hopin he'd just get drunk and sleep at the station.
Another voice shouts something, shit did he bring home another person again? He's so paranoid bout the damn war he's been 'interigating people'.
I walk out of my room quickly and see a young woman lying on the ground in a small puddle of blood. My God.
"Sis! Sis, get 'way frum 'er!" He shouts. I glare at him and walk to the small form of the woman. She has a bruise forming on her face and a cut on her forehead.
Her eyes burst up open but they aren't focused on anything. Then she starts seizing.
"Ah shit! Not a 'nuther one a you!" John shouts. For a moment I just stare at her, I've never known anyone else with seizures other than myself. Then my brain finally kicks into gear and I turn her on her side.
As I turn her I pause, I can feel her bones from under her shirt. I shake my head and keep turnin her, we can fix that with some food.
One minute passes then she goes slack and falls into my lap. I feel my face turn bright red as I stare at her tan face.
"A'right le's get ridda' 'er." John states as he picks the girl up and starts walking to the door.
"No!" I shout as I stand jump up and block the entrance. His face gets dark.
"If you leave 'er out there then she could die- an' you could be fired." I say quickly. He looks at the door then back at the girl and sighs. He mumbles to himself and plops her onto the couch then goes into his room.
When he's outta sight I run to the kitchen an grab a bucket of water and a sponge then I go back to the girl. I look at her head first and clean up the cut. It ain't too bad. I look at the back of her head just in case and pause, it's been sewn up recently.
I almost grin, this girl seems to find trouble everywhere. I look at her arm an notice it's all wrapped up. Slowly I start ta unwrap it but gag before I can finish.
It's burned bad, and by the looks of it it's startin to get infected. I slowly finish unwrapping it, her arm is sticky from the puss and thin as a stick. I's a good thing she's sleepin, this is probably gonna hurt.
I slowly wash off her arm and go back to the kitchen to get some gauze. When I come back she's sitting up, eyes wide.
"Hey." I say sweetly. She spins around and looks at me, eyes wide. I take a step forward but she scrambles away and falls off the couch.
"Ow, didn't that hurt ya?" I ask. She stares at me another moment and lets out a shaky sigh.
"I'm sorry. I can go, really I can." She mutters as she tries to stand. I rush forward and grab her shoulders.
"Oh no you can't." I scold lightly as I lead her back to the couch. I look at her again, her eyes are green. But the fun kind of green with some specks of gold. I haven't seen green eyes like that in a while. She looks up at me then at the water I'm holding. I smile at her slightly.
"I'm just gonna clean off your arm." I say softly. She nods and holds it up so I can reach it better. I take it lightly and see an umbrella tattoo on her wrist. It's weird looking from all the scars and burning and puss but it's there.
"I've never seen a woman with a tattoo before." I whisper, my face turns bright red. I didn't mean to say that out loud. The girl laughs slightly and shrugs.
"Yeah, I guess I'm just something else." She whispers smiling. I grin at her and slowly begin cleaning her arm. She cringes a few times but that's it. When I finish I wrap it up and she squeezes her hand into a fist a few times.
"Umm. I've gotta wrap your... your chest. Cause you've got some broken ribs." I say quickly. Her tan face turns a slight shade of red but she nods.
I lift her shirt, leaving her bra on, and start wrapping it slowly. After the long, awkward process I lower her shirt back down and we sit in silence for a moment.
"Uhh... I'm Margie." I say as I reach out my arm so she can shake it. She looks at my hand then back at me and smiles.
"Catrina." She says slowly. I smile at her, I've never heard a name like that either.
Months later...
I smile as I roll out the dough for the chicken pot pie. I look out the window to see the beautiful night sky.
Things have been wonderful... well things could be better but it's still been wonderful. I've been spending time with Margie, who is so smart. She works at a hospital, she isn't as high raked as she should be though, and has been giving me some seizure medicine and Chlorpromazine.
At first I told her not to bother, but she insisted and... it's working. Of course not all my visions are gone but instead of having them daily or every other day I have them once or twice a week. I've even gone a full week without having them once!
The only thing preventing this from being perfect is John. He... hurts Maggie and I, luckily I can often get Maggie and I away from him. I would leave with Maggie and go to Allison's but he won't let me leave. I tried once... he found me in an hour, and I couldn't find anyone.
Maggie believes that I have siblings, unlike John who thinks I just imagined them. But I don't care what John thinks, he's just an asshole.
Maggie has helped me through visions like how I've helped her through seizures. She thought me how to cook and bake, and I thought her how to fight... although I hope she never has to fight.
I sigh to myself as put the thin dough over the large tin and get out the frozen peas and thawed 'chicken'. I don't honestly think it can be called chicken at this point to be honest but oh well. We don't have much money... we would have more of John could stay away from the alcohol for five minutes.
I mix the chicken and peas with salt, pepper, flour, and chicken broth then put it in the tin and put another layer of dough on it. I open the heated oven and put it in. I sigh to myself then sit on the counter.
I twirl my slightly longer hair and smile, I have to admit that I look a little better. Now that my hair isn't so short and I no longer 'look like a walking skeleton' according to Margie. She also "gifted" me with a horrible nickname... stick. She calls me stick. And I hate it, and she knows I hate it. I think that's why she always calls me it.
She was trying to get me to eat whatever she could when I first moved in because apparently I'm 'horribly underweight'.
She's always so mad when I use air quotes... even though I'm not sure she knows what they mean. But then again my siblings got mad about that too... and Andrew. I miss them... so so much. Maybe... maybe I can leave.
But how can I leave Maggie alone with Jack. I could take her with me, but how would she react around my siblings? They aren't exactly... welcoming. I guess I'm not either.
They would accept her. They'd like her, I think. Vanya would like her, they have a lot in common. She'd probably try to help Klaus and... everyone else. Yeah she'd definitely do that.
Ok, so that's what I'll do. I'll get out of here with Maggie and reunite with all my siblings... but I have to find them first. Ok, I'll find my siblings, come back for Maggie, then we'll leave. John will look for us...
Ok! I go find my siblings, come back, kill John, and we leave... he's chief of police. Find siblings, come back, kill John, blow up the entire police station...
"Ugh! I can't kill a bunch of police officers! That would be stupid... maybe I could..." I mutter to myself as i try to think. There has to be something I can do other than gennoacide. Maybe I can... blow it up with nothing inside?
"AUGH! WHY CANT I THINK!" I shout as I throw my hands in the air. I throw my head back and sigh. I'll just go with my first idea...
"Find my siblings, come back for Maggie, run away." I whisper to myself. And if he comes for us I'll have my siblings. This will work. It has to work.
I hear a key enter the locked door and jump off the counter. Is John home already?? The door opens and Maggie walks in. I sigh with relief.
"Hey Twig." She states as she puts her bag down I hold in a groan as she walks towards me.
"Hey Maggie." I say softly. When she reaches me she looks at the oven.
"Ooh, what're you makin?" She asks. I look at the oven then back at her.
"Chicken pot pie." I answer.
"Ooo, I do love chicken pot pie." She states as she walks forward and opens the oven.
"Looks like it's almost ready." She whispers. I frown slightly.
"Do you think it'll be ready by the time John gets home?" I ask. She turns back around and smiles.
"Oh, he won't be home for a while. I went to pick him up but one of his buddies said they were goin out to get a drink." She states. I sigh with relief then smile slightly. I look back out the door then out the window to see if anyone could be listening.
"What are you doin?" She asks. I smile at her then pull her closer to me as I crouch down.
"I have a plan, to get us out of here. I'm gonna go and find my siblings. John will be so hungover he won't even notice I'm gone! I even know where one of them is. I'll come back and get you, then we can go to 2019." I whisper. She smiles and gasps slightly.
"Well, why haven't you told me about this plan till now?" She asks. I smile at her.
"Well I probably would have thought of it faster if I wasn't so busy getting food shoved down my gullet. Besides, you barley let me move the first 2 months I was here." I whisper. She smirks.
"That's because you weighed as much as a 13 year old and had a fever so high I thought you'd burn a hole in the bed." She whispers giggling. I smile at her.
"Yeah, well now I'm better. I don't have anything broken, no fever, barley any visions. It's time." I state happily. Her smile widens and she stands up.
"Well then I'll get you're stuff ready." She states. I look at her quizzically.
"My stuff?" I ask. She grabs a small bag and puts 3 dollars in it, a bottle of pills, and a small bottle. I frown slightly.
"What was that last thing?" I ask. She grins and pulls it back out then hands it to me. I laugh as I examined it more, it's pepper spray. I didn't even know that had been invented yet!
"What-" I start.
"It's a new thing called pepper spray. I had some extra money and bought a bottle." She states happily. I smile widely at her.
"That's amazing." I whisper. She nods quickly then frowns slightly.
"What's wrong?" I ask. She looks up at me and laughs wetly as tears well up in her eyes.
"I... I just don't want what happened last time to happen again." She whispers. I stare at her for a long moment as a tear rolls down her cheek. It was pretty bad...
"Hey..." I start as I touch her face and wipe a tear away.
"I'll be ok." I whisper. She sniffs loudly then runs a hand through my hair and inches closer to me. When she's centimeters away from our lips touching I smell smoke. The chicken pot pie.
I rush to the oven and open a window after a wave of smoke hits my face. Maggie grabs a mitten then takes the pie out. It isn't burnt too bad, it's still edible. I sigh slightly and cough as smoke enters my lungs.
We both stare at each other for a long minute. I'm here in the 1960's while Andrew is in 2019, I could never see him again and I know that... but I still love him. I can't betray him no matter how much I like Maggie. I smile at her as if nothing happened and grab two plates.
We sit at the table eating our chicken pot pie talking about what we could do when we escape. I tell her a little about my siblings and even some things about 2019. She doesn't know much about either of them and I feel like I should at least warn her about them. Besides, she's been curious about the future since the day I told her I was from 2019.
"Wait wait wait, so you're sayin there are no flyin cars? Not even one?" She asks sounding very disappointed.
"None that I know of." I state shrugging.
"Damn." She states shaking her head.
"I was hopin I'd be able to ride in one of those some day." She mutters as she takes another bite. I smile at her and nod slightly.
"Yeah me too. But hey, at least we've got more rights. I mean, when we're in 2019 you'll get the pay you deserve." I state happily. She smiles.
"Ya think so?" She asks.
"I know so." I state grinning wider. She smiles then looks at the clock and frowns.
"We both have to get up early. We should get some rest." She states. I smile at her and nod as I grab our plates and take them to the sink.
"You don't have to do that." She states walking up. I shake my head.
"No, it's ok. I've got this, go to bed." I state. She nods weakly and walks back to her room. I clean the plates off and put the chicken pot pie away then lay on the couch.
This will work. It has to work. I can find Allison, then she'll know where everyone else is. Then I'll come back for Maggie.
Heyyyyy... I am so sorry it took this long to update. I've been having some health issues, both mental and physical but now I'm ready to continue updating! Also, I was planning on being nicer to Catrina in this story, can you believe it?
When I finish this season I'll start uploading one shots, any recommendations?
Expect another update in... less than a week.
