Chapter 28: Spring Play Auditions
A person acting as Kelsi started playing the piano. Drew and May were next to each other next to the piano. They were looking at the sheet music.
(This song is "What I've Been Looking For" from High School Musical.)
"It's hard to believe that I couldn't see." Drew sang. "You were always there beside me."
"Thought I was alone with no one to hold." May sang. Drew looked at May.
"But you were always right beside me." They sang together. Drew looked back at the sheet music. "This feeling's like no other. I want you to know." They looked up into space. "That I've never had someone that knows me like you do." They look at each other. "The way you do. And I've never had someone as good for me as you. No one like you. So lonely before I finally found...what I've been looking for."
"Ooooh…" May vocalized.
May and Drew continue staring into each other's eyes as the song faded out on the piano.
"Excellent job you two!" Lisa said.
Drew and May suddenly looked away from each other and turned their attention to the theater teacher.
"You two always act the scenes out perfectly!" Lisa said.
"Thanks…" May said shyly.
"You two got the parts!" Teacher Lisa said.
May and Drew both smiled. They'll be playing the lead roles again. Even they can't deny that they really work well together.
May and Drew walked off stage and sat down in their seats.
"So, the leads again." Drew said.
"Yeah…" May agreed. "I think going to your place to rehearse really helped us both."
Drew flicked his bangs. "I never needed help."
May rolled her eyes.
"But I'm glad that I could help you, Amelia."
"Really? Amelia?" May questioned.
"It's a flower in case you were wondering."
"I know that!" May yelled at him.
"Just saying...You seem pretty confused when I called you that."
"No I didn't!"
"Did too." Drew said.
"Didn't!"
"Did too."
"Didn't!"
"Did too."
May sighed exasperatingly. "You're impossible."
"And you don't have a comeback." Drew said, smirking.
"I do too!" May yelled.
"Then let's hear it."
"You're...you're a...a…" May started. "Grasshead!"
Drew stared at May for a bit before chuckling.
"What's so funny?!"
"Oh. Nothing." Drew answered. "I guess you could come up with a nickname for me after all, huh Dahlia?"
May fumed in annoyance. "Of course I can. And I'm not Dahlia! I'm Daisy!"
"Whatever you say, Daffodil."
"Drew!" May yelled angrily.
Drew laughed and pulled out a rose. He held it out to May. "Good job during the auditions by the way."
May's anger disappeared when she saw the rose in front of her face. She accepted it and blushed. "You're impossible." She mumbled. "You tease me and then congratulate me?"
"Don't forget I calmed you down." Drew said.
"Hmph!" May replied angrily, looking away from Drew.
"So, the next part is when Sharpay and Ryan see the list of callbacks and Sharpay screams." Teacher Lisa said.
It's a different day in theater class and the teacher is on stage, explaining how a scene is supposed to go. She's explaining the scene to the two people who will be acting as Sharpay and Ryan Evans.
"And action." Lisa said.
Sharpay is pretending that she's looking at a poster that's on the wall. "Callbacks?!" She yelled. She then screamed a high-pitched tone which caused everyone in the class to jump a little in their seats. The girl was screaming at the top of her lungs.
Everyone covered their ears because of the loud scream. Sharpay finally stopped.
"So, how was that?" Sharpay asked.
Everyone uncovered their ears. "Maybe…" Teacher Lisa started. "Just tone the scream down...a tiny bit."
"Wow...she's perfect to play Sharpay." May/Daisy said.
"She sure is." Drew agreed.
It stayed quiet between them for a while as Sharpay and Ryan acted their next scene.
"Hey Drew?" May finally said.
"Yeah?"
"I think it's official now." May said.
Drew looked at her. "What is?"
May looked at Drew. "I love to star in the school plays with you. I love musical theater." She looked back at the stage. "And my stage fright is gone."
Drew smiled and looked back at the stage. "It was really never there to begin with."
May laughed nervously. "Yeah...but I was still scared of what people would think of my singing. And now I know that I've gotten a lot of fans because of my singing. So I'm not afraid to perform anymore." She looked at Drew again. "And it's all thanks to you."
Drew looked at May. "I did nothing to cure your stage fright. You did it on your own."
"Can't you just accept my thank you?"
"But I didn't do anything."
"To me, you did." May said.
"Well, to me, I didn't."
"Just accept my thank you."
"Nope. You're too modest. I want you to know that I did nothing and you did everything."
"But, but-"
"No buts." Drew cut May off.
"...fine." May mumbled. "You win."
"Like always."
May's eyebrows furrowed. "You don't always win."
"Really? When have I ever lost one of our little arguments?"
"Umm...well...let's see…" May said, thinking. "You...lost...when…"
Drew smirked. "Can't think of anything?"
"Well, I can't think of anything now. But you definitely lost at some time!"
"Vulpix, are you ready?" Drew asked.
"Vul~!" Vulpix answered happily.
"Okay then. Evolve." Drew said as he placed a Fire Stone in front of Vulpix. Vulpix touched it with his paw and he glowed white.
It's been three months since Drew received Vulpix and they would train a lot, increasing his level. Drew now thinks that Vulpix is ready to evolve and he purchased a Fire Stone from the store. He's at his mansion's front yard with Vulpix. He watches as Vulpix starts changing form and grows in the white light.
"Nine~!" The evolved Vulpix said after the white light disappeared. Vulpix has evolved into Ninetales. The Kanto version of Ninetales.
Drew stood up and pet Ninetales on his head. "You're going to be amazing in Contests in school."
"Nine~!" Ninetales said happily.
"Hey, what do you say we go to Petalburg City and maybe show you to the gang?"
"Nine~!"
"Hello, everyone." May said.
"Hi Princess!" A seven year old girl greeted.
May is outside of the park with Ninetales and they're greeting some little kids that are playing in the park. The kids run around Ninetales, laughing.
Ninetales quickly turns her head side to side to keep an eye on the children. May giggled.
"Well, let's get going." May said. The kids stopped running and they waved bye to May and Ninetales as they walked away. Ninetales sighed. May giggled again.
"Kids are adorable aren't they?" May asked.
"Nine…" Ninetales sighed.
Ninetales turned her gaze to someone in the distance. A Ninetales. A Kanto Ninetales. He's with his green-haired trainer, walking on the sidewalk. The Kanto Ninetales notices the Alolan one across the street.
As soon as he saw her, it was like he instantly fell in love. It's like one of those anime moments when the female is in slow motion and the male is just staring at her. The Alolan Ninetales' tail and hair is flowing in the slight breezes. It was like she blinked her eyes in slow motion.
May and Ninetales crossed the street towards the direction of Drew and his Ninetales. May and Drew still don't know that their Ninetales are staring at each other.
The two Ninetales are smiling at each other on both sides of the street. Their tails and hair are flowing behind them.
"Come on Ninetales. Let's go this way." Drew said. They crossed the street and actually went to the side that May is on.
May continued walking and saw Drew walk onto the sidewalk. Drew and May stopped when they faced each other. The two Ninetales are staring at each other.
"Hello." May greeted. "Looks like we meet again in the city."
"Yes. Looks that way, Your Highness." Drew said.
May looks at Drew's Ninetales. ("He evolved his Vulpix…") She thought. "You have a nice Ninetales."
"Thank you." Drew said. "My Vulpix evolved today actually."
"Well, I can tell that you've taken good care of him. His fur coat is so shiny and well brushed."
"And same to yours."
"Nine~!" Drew's Ninetales said happily.
Drew looked at his Ninetales. "What is it?"
"Nine~!" May's Ninetales said happily.
May looked at her Ninetales. "Ninetales?"
The Ninetales continue looking into each other's eyes. Drew and May look at both of them in confusion.
Drew's Ninetales took a step closer to May's. "Whoa. Hold on Ninetales. You shouldn't get any closer to the Princess's Ninetales." Drew said.
Ninetales looked up at Drew. "Nine…" He said sadly. He sat down in place.
"Wow. He's so obedient." May said.
"Thank you, Princess." Drew said. "That makes him the perfect Pokémon for me. All of my Pokémon are obedient."
May smiled. Drew and May locked eyes with each other.
("I'm feeling some déjà vu…") Drew thought.
May blinked. "Umm...well, I need to go back to the castle. It was nice seeing you again."
"You too." Drew said.
May started walking past Drew and his Ninetales, followed by her Ninetales. As Ninetales walked past Drew's, she brushed her tail against the male Ninetales' chin. Drew's Ninetales blushed as he watched her leave around the corner.
"Why do I always feel strange around the Princess?" Drew muttered. "It's like I...like her, but I mean, everyone likes her. But no, I have a crush on Daisy. Maybe." Drew sighed.
"Let's go Ninetales." Drew said. They started walking away somewhere, Ninetales hoping to see the Alolan Ninetales again.
