Rhythm and Blues
So, from where we left off, we found Laguna, McJagger, Melody, and Aggie leaving the library when they looked up and saw a giant wormhole sucking almost everything it could inside. But how did that happen? When did it happen? And more importantly, who is responsible for this? Well, we need to go back a few hours, around when it stopped raining while the group was in the library around when Melody first started to share her story. You see, once the rain stopped and the sun came out, almost every troll was out and about once again, where we find Poppy, Biggie, and Holly playing double dutch with Cooper and Buckaroo. While Biggie and Cooper cheered Buckaroo on, who was jumping, Poppy and Holly were swinging the rope while chanting, "Rell-a. By mistake, she hugged a snake. And that was nice, too! Now, let's count hugs! One, two, three-." Buckaroo then shouted, "Let's make things more challenging! Two more ropes, Holly"! Poppy and Biggie gasped as they asked in unison, "Quadruple dutch," as Cooper commented, "Oh yeah! This about to get 4 times as interesting." Buckaroo shrugged their shocked expressions off as she said, "When ya got four legs, double dutch is too awful easy. Now, with four ropes, that there ken be ayy darn good challenge. Now, what am ay just a-standin' around faw? Quadruple dutch me, ladies! Yee-haw"! holly chuckled as she said, "Y'all heard huurr. Two more ropes, Poppy! Poppy got two more ropes in as they started to swing them while Buckaroo sped up her jumping and hoofwork, commenting, "Yippy-ki-yay! This here is fun"!
Suddenly, out of the blue, a white glob dropped to the ground, making everyone stopped and walked to it in confusion. Poppy asked, "What is it," as Cooper commented with a smile, "I sure don't know, but it definitely did not come from me"! Biggie and Buckaroo winced in disgust as Holly stated, "As repulsive as that sounded, ay'll faand out what it is." holly stuck her finger in the gooey pile and tasted it before saying, "It's marshmallow! I'd swear it on my daddy's grave," before Poppy, biggie, and Cooper interrupted with frightful gasps. Then, Holly added the "y" part to help them realized she meant gravy. Buckaroo licked her lips while saying, "Yep! Huurr father ken make ayy mean pot ov lip-smacking gravy. Ay'm getting hungry just a-thinkin' about it." Suddenly, more globs of marshmallow started to fall as Cooper excitedly exclaimed, "I know the forecast did not call for bringing marshmallow goo! Hahahaha"! Suddenly, everyone looked up and instantly found where it was coming from: the funk spaceship above them, and it was clear as day when they saw marshmallow goo pouring out from the window. Everyone decided to check it out in curiosity as they called for Rhythm and Blues to pick them up.
The five trolls were picked up and brought inside the spaceship and into their lab in a beam of purple light. Inside was a complete mess with marshmallow goo almost everywhere you look. The two funk sisters were covered in the goo and stuck to what looked like a fan ceiling as Poppy asked if they were ok while the sisters replied in unison, "Yes to the yes"! Buckaroo stepped on some of the marshmallow goo as she quickly pulled her hoof away, leaving a sticky trail while commenting, " Whel, at least we know they aren't in any danger," with Cooper saying, "Dang! It's a sticky sweet situation up in here"! Biggie then asked them, "Are you sure you two are alright? Because of the explosions, the mess, and the fact that you two are stuck together in marshmallow goo on a ceiling fan while doing...whatever was it that you were doing anyway"? Rhythm explained, "Now that you mention it," with Blues adding, "We are actually not alright," as they hopped down and said, "No to the no," in unison again. Holly came up to the two as she asked, "Y'all! What in the T-R-O-double hockey sticks happened in here, y'all," as Buckaroo added while trying to get the sticky goo off her hoof, which now got stuck onto her right hand, "Ayn' why does it involve such a sweet yet sticky, sugary snack"?
Rhythm started things off by saying, "We attempted to maximize the volume of an extracellular confection. Or in lay-troll terms," with Blues simplifying it with, "Make an extra big marshmallow, but there was a slight miscalculation in the formula." Cooper, who was eating a huge pile of the marshmallow goo, commented while his mouth was full, "Whatever it was, it's delicious." Buckaroo facepalmed and the pop/funk troll's antics while Rhythm said, "We will figure it out dear sister. Our setbacks are behind us sibling supreme," as they did their special handshake, much to the other's confusion. When Rhythm pressed a button that was supposed to activate a clean-up bot, it accidentally released a mess-up bot that started to make a much bigger mess in the ship than earlier. Everyone ran and tried to avoid getting caught in the mess-up bot's path while Rhythm and blues tried to stop the robot themselves. The ship looked like a huge wreck, as Rhythm stated, "Apollo-to-the-gees, trolls. Won't happen again." However, Blues seemed to have a nervous look on her face as she said, "R, maybe we should just tell them," as Buckaroo asked, "Tell us what"? Rhythm then explained, "Honestly, something's been bothering us and causing us to make a lot of mistakes." Blues added, "Yeah, we miss our old friends and family back from where we're from in Vibe City." Then, they both said in unison, "We're homesick," as everyone started to feel bad for them.
Buckaroo came up to them while saying, "Ay know how y'all feel, gerls. Sometimes, ay get homesick ayn' miss my kinfolk back at Lonesome Flats. Ay especially miss my older sister, Jillian. She ayn' ay are about as close as y'all two are, ayn' it's been awful hard faw me to be away frawum huurr faw so awful long. So, ay know what y'all two are a-goin' through." Cooper then added, "I do too. I miss my mom and dad, and especially my twin brother back at Vibe City too, so we're on the same boat, ladies." Rhythm then said, "Yeah, but it's just crazy how you can love where you are and miss where you're from all at the same time." As the twins hung their heads low in sadness, Biggie was close to crying as Holly said, "You know, we Country Trolls have a way of a-dealin' with homesickness. We sing a sad song and cry and cry until we fill a barrel full of tears." Buckaroo added, "It's a little weird, but provides an extra source of water once ya drain out the salt." As Holly offered a barrel and guitar to play, Rhythm replied, "Hm, we appreciate you, Holly. But what we really need is a way to keep our minds off of homesickness all together." Everyone looked at one another, as Biggie commented, "I don't know. Wouldn't it be easier if you just talked about it or sang a sad song to express your sorrows"? Blues replied, "But we don't want to let our sadness consume us entirely. That's why taking our minds off of it is the best solution we've come up with." Poppy thought for a minute as she stated, "Taking your minds off of the homesickness feeling? I think we can help with that."
Outside of the spaceship, Poppy shouted through a loud megaphone, "With fun distractions! Hey-Oh"! The funk twins were on a bungee-jumping ride as they screamed while the ride took them up and dropped them, allowing them both to bungee-jump back into their seats. Cooper did some baking with the twins as he showed them how to make strawberry shortcakes, which ended up being a lot messier than they anticipated, but they still needed up breaking into laughter. Then, Rhythm and Blues played a fun strength game at the fair, where together, they got the little metal ball to rise and ring the bell. Then, they watched Buckaroo hit the stand, sending the metal ball skyrocketing at almost supersonic speed into the far reaches of outer space, much to everyone's jaw-dropping disbelief and Buckaroo's embarrassment. After doing so many fun activities, Blues exclaimed, "Haha! That was amaza-bonkers," as Rhythm added, "We didn't feel our homesickness the whole time"! Everyone high-fived in success until Rhythm and Blues started to feel homesick again as everyone rushed to come up with more fun distractions to keep them preoccupied. They did adorabull riding, a huge fireworks show, flyer bug racing, cloud gazing, pinwheels, even whirlpool surfing. However, despite all the fun everyone had, Rhythm and blues began to feel even more homesick as Cooper stated, "We're running out of ideas and fast"! Biggie shouted, "What else can we do," while Rhythm and Blues dropped to their knees as Rhythm shouted, "Oh! The homesickness is coming as stronger than ever"! Poppy ushered everyone to think of other ideas as Holly stated, "I'm plum-dry! It's too much pressure"! Buckaroo then snapped her fingers as she said, "Ay think ay have an idea."
At Country Corral, Rhythm and Blues entered Buckaroo's home as Blues asked, "So, what are we doing here"? Buckaroo started to set up what looked like a computer as she answered, "Y'all two are gunna join me in ayy video chat with my sister Jillian. She won't appear on the screen, though, since she still hasn't worked out those camera doohickeys, but she'll get ta see us. Maybe chatting with huurr will help y'all two feel ayy little less homesick." As Buckaroo pressed a button, the sound of a phone ringing could be heard for a couple of seconds before a country voice picked up, saying, "Howdy, little sister." (As a heads up, when she debuts in season 2, Jillian will be voiced by Ashleigh Ball) Buckaroo smiled and said, "Howdy, big sis. How's everything down on thay ...uhh farm"? Jillian's voice replied, "Mighty fine, Bucky. The workload is enough ta make ayy country troll feel content with huurr life. Who are y'all's little friends"? Buckaroo replied, "These are the funk delegates Rhythm ayn' Blues. Ladies, say hello ta Jillian." Rhythm and Blues both said hello as Jillian replied, "Nice ta meet y'all, sugarcubes. How are y'all enjoying Trollstopia? Bucky here doesn't seem ta shut huurr yap abut that there place ayn' it's made me a-wonderin' if it's wawth ayy visit." Rhythm spoke up, saying, "Oh, girl, you'd love it here. It's really nice, and we've made a lot of new friends that you'd be interested in meeting. Blues added, "Yeah, we have so much fun, and everyone gets along nicely with one another." you could hear Jillian chuckling as she replied, "It definitely sounds wawth a-visitin'. Ay'll have ta make ayy day ta come down there. Whel, ay gotta go. Work on thay ...uhh farm doesn't stop faw this here rural gerl, but ay hope ta see ya guys soon someday. Bye, ladies."
As Jillian hung up, Buckaroo turned to face Rhythm and Blues, asking, "So, did it work? Do ya feel any better, ladies"? Rhythm then replied, "Can we be honest, Buckaroo"? Blues then sadly added, "While it was nice to talk to Jillian, I think it just made us feel homesick even more now," leaving the country detective to grimace and feel sorry for them. Back in Pop village, the report of her unsuccessful attempt made everyone feel discouraged as Cooper asked, "What else can we do"? Biggie then got an idea as he said, "Ooh! I know! We can do this," as he demonstrated the finger-removing magic trick as Holly asked in disbelief, "How the hay is that gonna work"? Biggie shrugged as he replied, "Well, it's funny," while Buckaroo commented, "Okay, which troll here has an actual solution to this here problem"? Poppy then shouted, "Alright, I think I got a great idea that just might work." Back inside the spaceship, Poppy was walking with Rhythm and Blues, with everyone trailing behind her while saying, "Alright. So, you guys miss home a lot? But what if there was a way we could bring a slice of home right here to Trollstopia"? As they entered the main computer room, Poppy pressed a button that activated disco ball-ogram, and it projected a hologram of three random trolls, who were actually Rhythm and blues friends from vibe City.
Rhythm was speechless as she shouted, "What in the what, what?! Our friends! Big Jay?! Little Jay? Medium Jay"?! Blues was speechless, but her happy tears told the whole story. Everyone seemed to be excited as this idea actually seemed to work. Rhythm and Blues turned to Poppy as the purple funk troll said, "Poppy, I can't find the words." Blues then asked, "Maybe fantasta-fleeka-boom-boom"? Rhythm seemed to agree with it while the sisters did their special handshake as Biggie and Cooper high-fived in success while Holly and Buckaroo high-hoofed one another with both their front hooves. Then, as Rhythm and Blues thanked their friends for the generous opportunity, they both ran to hug the holograms, only to realize that they weren't "actually" here, which made them begin to feel homesick again. Everyone sighed in disappointment as Rhythm commented, "They're here, but not really here," while blues added, "Yeah. They're still far away." Poppy tried to reassure them that they had other solutions, but as the pop queen looked to her friends, Buckaroo, Holly, and Cooper had no idea what else to do, while Biggie still thought the finger solution was still viable. Then, Blues accidentally leaned against a button that activated the bubble beam as it randomly started to conjure up different things towards them in bubbles. It caught King Peppy as he dropped his cupcake, a showering Techno Troll, Branch's bunker, and his cup of cocoa, a blue pop troll while it was blowing bubbles, as Cooper commented, despite it being the wrong moment, "Wow! Ok, clearly, I've been doing it wrong the whole time"! While many trolls began to run and scream in panic, Poppy, Biggie, Cooper, Buckaroo, and Holly shouted, "Turn it off! Turn it off"! While the funk twins tried to shut off the bubble beam, they accidentally started to open a wormhole to the lightning dimension.
A huge wormhole began to open up as the things and trolls caught in the bubbles were creepily inching closer to it, which brings us to the moment where Aggie, Melody, Laguna, and McJagger came out of the library and were witnessing what was going on, leaving Aggie to shout, "Holy troll! Is that a wormhole"?! Melody shouted back, "Sure looks like it. And I have a pretty good idea where it came from,' as she pointed towards the glowing spaceship. McJagger then pulled out what looked like a remote as it enveloped everyone and the stroller with the egg inside as the bubble carried them inside the spaceship. Once safely inside, Melody shouted, "What in troll's name is going on here"? Poppy came up to the group, saying, "Rhythm and blues are feeling homesick and are having trouble focusing, and now, our friends are about to get sucked into that giant lightning wormhole"! Laguna adjusted her glasses as she said, "This is most suspenseful, although it does provide an essential opportunity to study the habits of multiple different dimensions of wormholes." Aggie paced back and forth while saying, "The only thing we're going to be studying is remains if we don't do something fast"! McJagger came up to Rhythm and Blues while saying, "You two need to try and mellow and focus. Instead of harboring your feelings of being homesick, try releasing them through song. It just might help." Rhythm and Blues looked at one another and decided to give it a try. A purple spotlight shined on them as they began to sing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Homesick~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rhythm: I'm missing home something fierce.
Blues: You're not alone, and though it's nice here.
Both: I'm feelin' a hole in my heart where our family goes. And I'm fallin' apart, wonder if they're out there feelin' it too, yeah. Or is it just me and you?
Rhythm: Feelin' homesick (Blues: Feelin' homesick), ooh. Yeah, we're homesick (Blues: Yeah, we're homesick), ooh.
Both: And we know it won't end, we're missing our friends. We're missing our beds and the house they are in. 'Cause, we're homesick, homesick, ooh.
Rhythm: I miss our parents and our friends who we keep close to heart.
Blues: I miss our favorite streets, and the thought is tearing me apart.
Both: I'm feelin' a hole in my heart where our family goes. And I'm fallin' apart, wonder if they're out there feelin' it too, yeah. Or is it just me and you?
Rhythm: Feelin' homesick (Blues: Feelin' homesick), ooh. Yeah, we're homesick (Blues: Yeah, we're homesick), ooh.
Both: And we know it won't end, we're missing our friends. We're missing our beds and the house they are in. 'Cause, we're homesick, homesick, ooh. Homesick.
Everyone was close to emitting tears or already emitting tears as the song concluded because although it was sad, the execution was downright beautiful. Rhythm and Blues looked at one another as the purple funk troll commented, "Wow, that felt really sad." Blues added, "Yeah, but feeling really sad felt...really good"! Melody wiped her eyes as she held the stroller close to her while saying, "Ok, two things. That was certainly one of the most beautiful and saddest performances I have ever seen. And two, OUR FRIENDS ARE ABOUT TO BE EATEN BY A GIANT WORMHOLE"! As everyone looked out the window and saw the bubbles approaching closer to it, Rhythm and Blues knew just what to do as they both worked together, pressing a sequence of buttons that could close the wormhole in time with the help of a sonic pop wave and return everyone and everything to where it was originally. All the trolls that were falling from the sky landed safely and comfortably on nice, comfy beanbags, while Branch got his cocoa back, and in a huge crash, his bunker. Once things have returned to normal, Poppy came up to Rhythm and Blues and asked if they were still homesick. They both shrugged as Rhythm replied, "We always will, but at least now, we know it's ok to feel it." Laguna came up to them, adding, "I know how you feel. We shouldn't be holding in these bad feelings, despite whatever they may originate from. but sharing them with friends you care for and allowing yourself to feel it is a natural way for you to have a better time coping with it." Blues excitedly added, "Plus, how lucky are we to have two incredible communities to call home," as Rhythm replied, "so lucky! In fact, I'd say this calls for a celebration." Biggie then came up to Rhythm and Blues while saying, "And I have just the thing to celebrate," as he performed his finger removal trick again, this time, getting laughter from them both, as Rhythm commented, "I got to admit, that is pretty great."
Buckaroo smiled as she said, "Well, at least now those two can allow themselves to feel their homesick emotions and not worry about a-holdin' them down inside. We feel things naturally, and allowin' ourselves to embrace those emotions helps us naturally grow as trolls." Holly snickered as she asked, "Since when did ya get so philosophical and deep, Buckaroo"? The detective smiled and shrugged as McJagger then said, "I know a way we can turn this celebration up to another level," as he pulled out his remote and pressed a button that started to play funk music. Everyone started to dance and have fun as Aggie felt someone tap her shoulder. She turned and was face-to=face with Laguna, who whispered, "Can we talk privately for a minute"? Aggie nodded as Laguna pulled her aside from the group for a minute, leaving Aggie to ask, 'Is everything ok, Laguna"? The Techno Troll nodded while saying, "I was wondering if you maybe wanted to come with me tomorrow to Vibe City"? Aggie nodded and answered, "Of course, but why are you going to Vibe City tomorrow"? Laguna had a nerovus look as she slowly rubbed her left arm while saying, "Well...I'm going to my first therapy session tomorrow with the therapist Essence recommended. Still, honestly, I'm not entirely comfortable talking about personal things like what I went through in front of a complete stranger. He said I could bring someone along with me to help me feel more comfortable. I already asked Melody, but she has work tomorrow, and McJagger said he would meet me after the session because he was helping Quincy out with something. You're so far the only other troll I feel comfortable talking about this kind of thing with at the moment. So, you think you can join me"? Aggie thought about it for a minute before saying with utmost sincerity, "Of course, Laguna.
I'd be more than happy to accompany you if it helps you feel more comfortable. Is your mom ok with this"? Laguna nodded, replying, "She said this therapist could help me begin to share my story and try to start opening up towards the fears behind my PTSD and finding ways to manage with it and with any more panic attacks that may occur. I guess I'm just a little nervous, is all." Aggie placed a comforting hand on her shoulder as she said, "It's alright if you feel nervous, Laguna. If I were in your fins, I would feel the same way, especially when talking about deeply personal things. Besides, you don't have to tell him everything right away. That's why they do scheduled sessions so that way, you talk to him bit by bit about what's bugging you, and he'll start suggesting solutions that can help." Laguna then responded with, "I know that. It's just...well...I don't want to say I don't trust this therapist but...something in me...makes me believe that." Aggie then asked, "Do you not trust him because you don't know his credentials. Or you don't trust him...because it's a he"? Laguna slowly turned her head away and looked down, signaling Aggie that Laguna didn't trust him because she was afraid he would try to do something if she blindly gave him her trust right off the bat. Aggie placed a gentle arm around Laguna as she said, "Hey, listen. If he tries anything, and I mean anything related to what your father did, I promise you on my beating heart. I will make sure you're protected at all costs. But...Essence suggested him for a reason. So maybe...even if you don't trust him right away, give him a chance to help you. And, if it makes you feel more comfortable, we could stop by Quincy and Essence's place afterward so you can tell her how it went and ask questions about the therapist."
Laguna shared a small smile as she said, "That would be something to consider. I'm delighted you're helping Aggie. My gratitude for your assistance goes way beyond what I can express." Aggie smiled, saying, 'Of course, and remember, we're all here to help. Me, McJagger, Melody, Poppy, R and B, Val, Holly, everyone is here to help." Laguna began to feel a little better as she and Aggie joined up with the rest of their friends and rejoined the dance party. Suddenly, Aggie felt her head spinning and excused herself for a quick drink of punch. As she pulled out a water bottle filled with fruit punch, she felt a vision coming as it played what looked like the side of a building cracking open in Lonesome Flats, leaving a huge hole. And on top of that, a shadowy figure could be seen emerging, but she could not identify who it was. Once the vision ended, Aggie shook her head, took a sip of the fruit punch before saying to herself, "I've got to warn Buckaroo about this later when she and I get a chance to talk alone."
