After the cats were fed and comfortable in their cages in their new temporary home, the blue blur and his archeologist girlfriend said goodbye to Mr. Bulroy before leaving the shelter and headed off to the museum a few blocks down.
Given that it was near the end of the day and the sun was setting, Sonic wasn't surprised that they were once again visiting Wilkson after the museum closed for the night, but that was nothing to worry about.
Besides, the door was probably unlocked anyway. Otherwise, the two of them would have to get in the way they got in when they last visited, by going to the roof and going through the glass ceiling above.
Walking up the small steps, Sonic tried the knob and was thrilled to see that it wasn't locked when it turned. He slowly opened the door and walked inside with Lara beside him, greeted by two friendly security guards.
"The museum is closed tonight." The first guard said, "Is there anything we can help you folks with? Otherwise, you can always show yourselves out and wait until tomorrow morning for whatever it is you're here for."
"We're here to see Mister Wilkson." Lara replied, "We got something for him."
"Alright, follow me." The second guard instructed, "Mr. Wilkson is in his office, he loves ancient artifacts and the museum's exhibits are full of them, hope you're aware of it."
"We are." Sonic said as he and Lara followed the guard down the hall, "I know museum curators are busy all the time, I've met a lot of them."
"Good to know." The first security guard chuckled.
Wilkson's office wasn't very far, in fact, it was just a short walk down the hall to the right well near the bathrooms. The door was dark and wooden with a golden tablet on the front with the words that read: Curator Wilkson.
The guards walked off, leaving Sonic and Lara to knock on the door. "Who's there?" Wilkson's voice echoed from within his office. "Mr. Wilkson, its us. We're back and we got something for you that will make you happy."
A chair creaked and footsteps approached before the door opened and Wilkson himself greeted the two adventurers, inviting them into his office. "Its jolly well pleasant to see you two again." He said, "What is it you have for me?"
"We found all the Ratakyan Keys and we got the Senga Yujunaka Statue." Sonic replied as Lara reached into her pocket and got out the golden gorilla statue. Wilkson's eyes widened, "By Jove, am I having a dream or is this real?"
"Its as real as it can get and you're definitely not dreamin'." Lara nodded, handing the statue over to the old curator, who examined it, taking in and regarding its design and feeling it up and down in his hands.
Wilkson put down the statue and excitedly began shaking Sonic's hands and Lara's hands, "Good show you two, you actually did it. Thanks to your efforts, my museum has a new attraction, the Ratakyan Senga Yujunaka Idol."
"So, what does this mean going forward, Mr. Wilkson?" Lara asked curiously.
"What does it mean?" Wilkson exclaimed, "Tomorrow people will be coming from all over to see the long-fabled, thought-to-be mythical Statue of Yujunaka. It'll make the news, there will be photos.
"Oh this will be extraordinary! The Ratakyan Statue of Yujunaka: Once long thought to lost a thousand years ago when the Ratakyan tribe vanished, it was found by world hero Sonic the Hedgehog and archeologist Lara Croft.
"You two deserve something for it, oh today is the beginning of something glorious and grander! In fact, a few years ago, during an expedition, I found something related to the Ratakyans. In fact, it's a gold coin. Here!"
Wilkson reached into his pocket and pulled out a golden coin, showing it to Sonic and Lara, who gasped in unison when they saw the head of a gorilla on it, a gorilla that almost looked like the Senga Yujunaka Statue.
"I've studied it and its worth a million dollars." The curator went on, "it's a million dollar Ratakyan coin. Lara, you just became more richer than ever."
"Alright, Lara!" Sonic elbowed his girlfriend as she accepted the coin, "Your family wealth just expanded with the help of the Ratakyans." Wilkson pulled out another coin and gave it to Sonic, "This is for you as well, Mr. Sonic."
"Way past hooba dooba cool!" The blue hero exclaimed, "I got myself a million dollars, totally way worth than any gold rings or Mobiums. In fact, I think I know what Lara and I could do with a bit of the money in the coins."
"What's that, Sonic?" Wilkson asked.
"Buy ourselves a meal, almost all the chili dogs in the world. I have just the idea for me and Lara's first date, we're gonna have dinner downtown."
"That's splendid." Wilkson shook Sonic's hand, "I'm thrilled that you two are in love, I almost never saw this one coming. You two are perfect for each other, the adventurous duo, exploring and adventuring together.
"You two get your meal, rest up and be back here first thing in the morning, we must be ready for the hour. People from all over will be wanting to see the people who got the statue, be sure to bring your friends.
"I assume you had help along the way, am I right? Your friends deserve to take the credit as well, together you will be in the papers all over the world and history will remember this as something it cannot forget."
