Ok, so I had already invited Alex, Ruby and Audrey, and Ally, Killa and Jordan already knew... so that basically left Lonnie, Jane, Mal and Evie.
I'd already looked around for Lonnie and Jane and hadn't been able to find them anywhere, so now I was heading to Mal and Evie's dorm.
Ok, I'll be honest, Mal and Evie weren't actually on the original list of invitees but well, I was given the responsibility of invitations so I should have the power to tweak it at least a tinny bit, shouldn't I?
I saw that the dorm to Mal and Evie's rooms was open and walked towards it, voices from inside the dorm reaching my ears.
"You know what? Let's cut it off, layer it..." Evie's voice became clearer as I reached the doorway.
She was standing in front of the mirror with a girl, with long brown hair and a floral pink and blue dress with a pink sash around the waist, whom I didn't recognise. To their side was Mal who was chewing on some gum and looking at the two girls expectantly. Another girl, who I also didn't recognise, with a blue dress and long brown-black hair with a pink bow across stood a bit behind them.
The girl besides Evie interrupted her mid-sentence as she stared at her reflection.
I couldn't see her cause Evie was in the way but I could almost feel the awe radiating off of her.
"No, no, no, no, no, no!"
I almost choked on thin air as I recognised the voice.
"I love it."
Lonnie?
And to think that I had been looking for her EVERYWHERE!
"Convenient," I muttered to myself, nobody hearing me. I leaned against the entrance of the doorway as I looked at the intriguing scene in front of me.
Was it weird to be casually eavesdropping into someone else's conversation?
Yes, yes it was.
"You do?" asked Evie patronisingly, looking the girl's reflection up and down, cocking her head to the side as if trying to find what Lonnie found likeable in it.
"It's just... " Lonnie trailed off, eyes wide with happiness. She looked down then and her expression faltered for a second. She bent down, slowing reaching down, gripping her skirt and then...
She RIPPED it?
Mal who was swinging from her bedpost stopped mid-swing. Evie's jaw dropped. My eyes widened.
"Now I'm cool."
I stared at the girl in shock, wondering how any of this could be real. I had to press a hand over my mouth to suppress my laughter.
I think I got more of a whiplash though when the purple-haired, leather-wearing, villain-kid, Mal agreed with the warrior-daughter, "Like ice."
They must have really low standards for "coolness" back at the isle.
The other light blue-wearing girl then walked forward, right in front of Lonnie and Evie. She also bent down and ripped her skirt. Mal emitted a sound between a scoff and a laugh as the girl's mouth went to her mouth in shock. Evie moved away so that I could finally see the girl's face in her reflection...
Jane?!
"What did I just do?" Jane muttered in shock as she looked towards Lonnie who had an amused smile on her face, "Mom's gonna kill me!"
"Double coincidence," I muttered out.
Evie looked back and shared an amused expression with Mal when she finally caught sight of me.
"Al!" she exclaimed with a toothy grin, giving me a tiny wave.
The two Aurodonians turned to look back at me, sending me excited waves of their hands.
Mal, on the other hand, jerked around, tripping over the edge of her bed and then tumbled over her leather, heeled boots, landing straight on her face with a large thud.
"Oh fairy's!" I exclaimed as I moved forward to help her up. I offered her my hand.
She pushed her face up, groaning in pain as she blew her hair out of her face.
She spotted my hand and her eyes travelled all the way up it till it reached my face. I gave her a polite smile. She turned her head back towards my palm.
She looked at it begrudgingly, then back at me with a fake sweet smile (which I noticed I was getting much better at noticing) on her face and with clear reluctance took it, hoisting herself up.
Once she got up she didn't spare me a second glance before plopping back onto her bed, pulling a small notebook towards herself in the process and sketching something that I couldn't see.
I was immediately reminded of the sketch of the wand.
I hadn't gotten around to prodding about it yet but it was always present in the back of my mind, waiting to be pushed forward like baggage on a conveyor belt.
"Sorry about that," I muttered sheepishly looking at the inhabitants of the room, rocking back and forth on my toes, "I didn't want to interrupt you all and your-" my eyes darted downwards to their skirt, "- coolness."
I realised what I had just said as my eyes flashed back up towards them widening in horror.
"Conversation, I meant to say conversation! Not um- n- not," I shook my head vigorously, the loose strands from my plait hitting the side of my face with the motion. I heard Mal and Evie let out a snort which they then eagerly proceeded to hide behind their sketchbook and hair respectively, "You know what, I'm just gonna go." I awkwardly jutted a thumb out towards the door as I proceeded to slowly back towards it.
"Oh no, it's ok A-"
"Bye!" I exclaimed cutting off Lonnie before proceeding to rush out the door. Jane had returned to staring at her ripped skirt in the mirror, just humming to my farewell, not really paying attention.
I barely took two steps out of the room before my brain hurled a reminder about the slumber party smack-first into the forefront of my mind.
I groaned, annoyed with my mouth for making this whole situation more awkward then it should have been.
Why, oh, why was I so stupid?!
I popped my head back into the doorway, leaning sideways slightly, my braid now swinging below me.
"Um, guys..." I said softly. The girls, who had returned to doing... whatever it was they were doing before(probably ripping their skirts... SHUT UP BRAIN!), turned their heads in eerie unison to look at me, "Slumber party tonight, 9. All four of you are invited."
I was about to walk away again before I saw Mal look up at me with a confused expression.
"Uhh- did you just say us four?" she said, her eyebrows raised.
"Yeah," I said, half-guessing where this was going.
"You mean, us four, "Mal said, pointing towards her and Evie, "Like me and Evie? Like me?"
"Well I wasn't talking to the furniture now, was I?" I said, giving her a knowing look, making it indirectly known that I knew why she was asking this.
Apparently, this was the wrong move as she gave me an annoyed look before looking down at her sketchbook jerkily and proceeding to scribble rather aggressively.
"We can't go," she said, trying to hide her irritation.
Evie who had been writing something in her notebook dropped her pen and swivelled around in her chair rather swiftly, facing Mal with a disbelieving expression.
"We can't?"
Mal sent her an angry glare.
"We can't," Evie corrected herself hurriedly, nodding fervently before turning to me still nodding, but now with a downtrodden expression, "We can't. Sorry."
"Oh," I muttered feeling guilty upon seeing Evie's expression, cursing myself for making a mess of a situation again, "Alright then. Um... Lonnie, Jane?"
"I'll be there," Lonnie nodded with a sympathetic smile, noticing my expression.
Jane looked up from her skirt just long enough to say, "I'll just ask mom and tell you."
"Cool," I said, shaking my head internally to clear it out and forcing a grin onto my face. "I'll text you guys the place in the evening. Bring bedrolls and snacks. Emphasis on snacks," I continued, ignoring the look on Evie's face.
I then turned away from the door to walk away.
Again I didn't take more than two steps before peeking back into the doorway.
"Nice hair btw," I said, catching the four's attention again.
I didn't wait to hear their replies, just sending them a final smile before straightening up and walking out of the door. This time for real.
The poll for the face claim right now. Hurry up if you want to vote in it, it's only open for this month.
