Katie and Jane sat beside each other on the bus as it was making it's drive from the Houston airport to the hotel. Jane stared out of the window and grimaced as the lights of the city were a bright contrast to the dark sky. Maura spent the whole plane ride to Houston in the back with Coach Danvers to talk about the players who were unavailable to play tomorrow night. Jane's concussion symptoms had resolved a couple of days ago and Maura cleared her for practice earlier today. That was the last time she'd seen her girlfriend.
"What's with the sour face?" Katie stated as she poked her best friend.
"I haven't seen Maura since she cleared me for practice this morning. That's like eleven hours, including the time difference," Jane sighed. "I'm not even going to be able to sleep in the same bed as her. I didn't think traveling would be that difficult. But here we are, sleeping in the same hotel, on the same floor, and in different rooms," Jane slouched and crossed her arms.
"You know I'd cover for you right?" Katie laughed. "I'd say you were in the shower or something, go sleep in Maura's bed."
"Maura's too much of a good girl to break the rules," Jane whined. "She'd never go for it,"
"Just try Jane," Katie winked. "You won't know unless you ask."
Suddenly the bus came to a stop outside their hotel and each team member stood up to stretch. Jane reached to grab her and Katie's carry on from above their heads and handed Katie her bag. "I'm going to try, but don't lock that door."
"I won't," Katie laughed as the pair unloaded the bus.
They stood on the curb waiting for their suitcases to be unloaded. She spotted Maura's suitcase before she spotted hers and went to fetch it. She stood next to her best friend and yawned as she waited for their bags to drop. She watched Maura take her last step off of the bus and walk towards the bags. Jane watched as Maura searched around the bags looking for her's. Jane locked eyes with her and pointed to the suitcase sitting at her feet. She watched the smile grow on the blonde's face as she walked towards her.
"You grabbed my bag?" Maura smiled.
"Yeah, it was one of the first one out. Let me just grab mine and I'll walk you to your room," Jane's smile matched the blondes.
"You don't have to do that," Maura went to grab her bag. "You look tired. You go to your room with Katie and I'll see you in the morning."
"Absolutely not," Jane yanked the bag away from Maura. "I will not go all day without kissing you. I am definitely giving you a goodnight kiss, in your room."
"I definitely won't say no to that," Maura smirked.
Jane eyed her bag coming out of the bus and all but leaped to grab the bag. "Hey Kate," Jane yelled towards her best friend. "I'll meet you in the room," Jane watched her best friend laugh and nod her head. Jane carried the pair's bags, walked up to Danver's and grabbed the doctor's room key. They rounded the corner, towards the elevator and Jane pushed her girlfriend against the wall.
"Jane," Maura laughed and frantically searched for anyone on the team.
"Everyone is still outside waiting for their bags," Jane explained. "I missed you today," Jane glanced around quickly as she leaned in to kiss the blonde in front of her.
"I missed you too," Maura smiled. "It's way past your bedtime. How are you still awake? Did you sleep at all?" Maura stroked the brunette's cheek and rubbed her thumb on top of Jane's dark circles. "You look so tired."
Jane shook her head, "I can't sleep on moving vehicles. Never have been able to." Jane heard the ding of the elevator and pulled the blonde in quickly so no one else could jump on with them. "What floor are you on?"
"Three," Maura leaned in front of Jane to press the button. Jane sighed as they waited for the elevator to stop at the third floor. "Are you okay?" Maura turned to look at her girlfriend.
"Yeah," Jane sighed again. "It's just that it's almost midnight in Boston and I'm exhausted."
"I told you, you don't have to drop me off," Maura smiled. "I'm perfectly capable of finding my room myself," she laughed as the pair walked out of the elevator and in the direction of Maura's room number. Jane leaned against the wall outside of Maura's room and watched as the Blonde went to insert her key. "Thank you for walking me to my room," Maura smiled as she pushed her door open.
Jane nodded her head and pushed her way into the room behind Maura. She dropped both of their bags on the floor and trapped the blonde against the wall again. She leaned in to kiss her girlfriend. Her lips danced across the blonde's. "I've been wanting to do that all day," Jane whispered against the blonde's lips.
"You just kissed me in the lobby," Maura laughed.
"No. I wanted to come to your office before we left, but I got held up in the locker room. I wanted to push you up against your office door and kiss you so hard your knees become weak," Jane smiled as she pulled the blonde into another kiss. This one softer than the one before.
"Jane," Maura laughed. "You know you have to go back to your room right?"
"Let me stay," Jane pleaded as her arms slid from the blonde's face, down over her shoulders, and rested on her waist. "Katie said she would cover for me. You and I haven't slept a night without each other since I moved in," Jane puffed out her bottom lip and pulled Maura closer. "Please?"
"Jane, you know that's against the rules," Maura laughed.
It's true, rules where players bunked with players, two to a room. Her and Katie were always roommates. But, Jane was thinking about going to Coach and getting to bend the rules. "Please Maur?" Jane wrapped her arms around Maura, resting her hands on the blonde's lower back. "Just bend the rules this once?"
"Jane," Maura sighed. "Babe I can't just bend the rules."
"Not even for me?" Jane pulled the blonde flush against her. "No sex, just sleep."
"Katie's going to cover for you?" Maura inquired as she looked into the pleading eyes of the brunette standing in front of her. Jane could tell she was going to get Maura to crack. It was probably the exhaustion on her face that helped move the blonde to her side.
"She's going to run the shower when she hears rounds starting," Jane nodded. "Just you and me before the chaos of the away game starts."
"Fine," Maura leaned up to kiss Jane. "Just this once, you look so tired."
"I am so tired," Jane laughed. "All I want is to fall asleep with you," Jane leaned down and pulled the blonde's lips into a soft kiss.
Jane untucked Maura's blouse out of her black skirt and pulled it over her head, leaving Maura in her skirt and black lace bra. "I hadn't realized you wore this bra today, it's my favorite," Jane frowned as she pulled the blonde against her.
"No sex," Maura laughed as she pulled away from the brunette and dragged her suitcase further into the room. "Sleep." Jane nodded her head and pulled out her phone to text Katie that their plan was a success. She pulled her sweatsuit off and pulled on a pair of pajama shorts and climbed into the far side of the bed. "Nuh-uh," Maura shook her head. "Bathroom and teeth," she poked the brunette. "I don't want you waking me up in the middle of the night with your stanky breath or your need to pee," Maura pointed to the bathroom.
"Maur," Jane groaned.
"You can always go back to your room," Maura shrugged.
"Fine," Jane moaned as she begrudgingly rolled out of bed and sauntered to the bathroom. She stopped at her bag on the way and pulled her tooth brush from the side pocket.
Maura laughed as she changed into her pajamas and pulled out her lotion. She watched as Jane came out of the bathroom and flopped on the bed beside her. "Better?" Maura laughed at the dramatics Jane was projecting.
"Can I sleep now?" Jane climbed under the covers and rested her head on the fluffy pillows of the king size bed.
"Are your teeth brushed and you've peed?" Maura watched the brunette nod. "Then yes." Jane reached her arm over to try to pull the blonde close to her. "I still need to brush my teeth," Maura laughed as she finished applying her lotion.
"Maur," Jane whined.
"I'll be right back," Maura left the sleepy brunette in the bed and went to the bathroom. When she walked out of the bathroom she heard a knock at the hotel room door. "Jane?" Maura whispered from the doorway. She got no response and peaked around the corner to see the brunette asleep in the bed. Maura looked into the peephole, she saw Danvers standing outside the door.
"Give me one minute," Maura spoke softly through the door.
"No problem," Danvers called.
"Shit," Maura whispered to herself. She looked around and noticed Jane's bag dead center in the middle of the walkway. She quietly dragged the suitcase out of view of the doorway and grabbed her robe out of her bag. She was thankful for the privacy of the hotel, that standing at the door you couldn't see the bed. Maura looked back at the sleeping brunette, she was sprawled across the middle of the bed, her arms open welcoming the embrace of the blonde.
She sighed and went back to the door. She pulled her robe tight across her body and pulled the door open slightly. "Coach?" Maura smiled. "What can I do for you?"
"I was putting the lineup for tomorrow together, and I just wanted to make sure Rizzoli was cleared to play," Danvers rubbed his eyes and smiled softly. "I'm sorry if I woke you. I can't sleep until I've figured this out."
"I wasn't asleep yet," Maura laughed nervously. "She's cleared to play," Maura answered. "She hasn't had symptoms in a couple of days."
"Perfect," Danvers lifted his pen to put a checkmark next to Jane's name. "Sorry again," he nodded as he turned to walk back to his room.
Maura sighed in relief as she closed the door and pulled the chain to lock the door. She pulled her robe off and dropped it on top of her bag as she pulled the covers back and climbed into the brunette's arms. "Who was that?" Jane muttered.
"Danvers wanted to know if you were cleared to play tomorrow," she smiled as she tucked her head against Jane's chest. "Good night Jane."
"Night Maur," Jane mumbled. "Love you."
And just like that Jane's breaths were even again and Maura followed not long after.
