Bruce was persuing Harley with very little rest. He had lost her in Bludhaven, once he had found Tessa's baby. He had alerted the authorities and they had taken over. Unfortunately, Bruce was unable to find her again. She had gotten rid of her phone, the signal was completely gone. He had gone back to his place to recoup, the nagging suspicion that she had used him to get information about Tessa had been eating him alive. He was sure he hadn't given anything away. Looking back, it did seem strange they way Harley would direct the conversation, but he hadn't told her anything important.
He hadn't heard from Tessa, but the police had assured him that her baby had been returned. Bruce had also come through and awarded the helpful nurse a substantial amount of cash as a reward. After everything, he had hoped Tessa would call him and let him know she was fine, or ask for any information, not that he had any to give. The fact that she was probably with Joker through all of this infuriated him.
Bruce had been there for her, nursing her back to health, and the first chance she got, she'd run back to Joker. She was not naïve, she knew what he did, what he was capable of doing on a whim. The fact that ate away at him was, if he asked her to choose between her friendship with him and the train wreck of a relationship with Joker, Bruce had no doubt in his mind that she would choose Joker.
Bruce had finally made up his mind though, once Harley was found and locked up, he would sever all ties with Tessa. She'd made it obvious that she didn't want him in her life. He would put all of it behind him, put her behind him. The thought still felt wrong, but it was what was best for him. For once, he would be selfish and choose to save himself.
Shortly after getting back to Gotham, he had taken a trip to Harley's apartment and found it was completely trashed, and a pile of receipts that had caught his attention. He had unknowingly funded half Harley's kidnapping escapade. She had charged several pieces of equipment to one of his many credit cards. He had to report it, like a normal citizen would. He never looked at his statements, he wouldn't have known she had charged all of this to him. He first called the credit card company and filed a fraud report, then called the police.
He had to tell them about their relationship. He started at the beginning. He told them about the strange questions that Harley would ask. He explained when he had seen Harley's picture on the news, he had gone to her place to see if she was there. He explained what he had found and gave them the fraud report numbers for the police report. Then gave them copies of his credit card statement. The detective had thanked him and let him know they would let him know if they needed more information. With his civilian ass covered, Bruce had every resource he could use, looking for a hint of Harley. He had to find her, take her in to the authorities, for his final apology to Tessa.
Harley was not enjoying her vacation. She had managed to ditch the baby and get out of Bludhaven. That was the only thing that had gone well for her. She was currently holed up in a disgusting, pay by the day motel. She had gotten a prepaid phone and called in a few favors to get some cash on hand. Now she was watching as the new reported the kidnapping and safe return of Tessa's baby as the darker brown color saturated her usual blonde locks. Harley was furious that the nurse that had seen her walk into the hospital had snitched. Worse yet, Bruce had given the tattle tale a reward.
She was still upset that she hadn't got to get rid of Tessa. She had known, deep down, she should have just gotten rid of her and the brat at the same time. She fucking knew it. She was fine though, this was just a minor setback. She just needed to talk with Joker, he would understand. She just didn't have a way to get a hold of him, but she'd h=gotten an idea. She had to wait for the sun to go down. She needed as few people around as possible. Once 11:00pm hit she was on her way out of the door.
She had dressed in all black, the darker hair color helped her disguise. She had a small handgun tucked into her jacket pocket, it wasn't safe to walk the Narrows at night unarmed, especially if you were a woman. She made her way to the area she thought Joker might see her note. She walks the mostly abandoned industrial part of the Narrows, passing the diner she knew he'd been to before.
She moved back into the dark streets, finding a few abandoned looking buildings. Tessa had told her she lived close to the diner she had worked at, so she started to mark the buildings she passed. She signed the walls in a way Joker would notice, but most people wouldn't look twice at the sight of.
~Mr. J call me~ followed by her number.
She marked a few buildings and signs along the way. Joker was a flamboyant personality, she knew she would have to do something big to get his attention. After tagging as many signs and buildings and a few houses with her new phone number and her message, she walked into the darker neighborhoods. She walked and watched for her moment. It didn't take long. She was surrounded by a diverse group of men.
"Oh, pretty lady, I think you might be lost." A tall, dark skinned man said to her.
"Am I?" she asked, batting her blue eyes.
"Don't worry, we can help you." Another said to her.
She turned and looked at the man. "You think you're man enough to help me?"
The men all started hooting and laughing at her comeback. She looked around her, the two who had spoken to her were in front of her, one to the left, one to the right. There were two behind her too. The one to her right reached for her hand, she pulled away.
"Oh, come on, I thought we were being friendly?"
She smiled up at him, "I don't think four on one is friendly."
The one to the left laughed, "Oh, we will take turns, promise."
Harley reached her left hand out, the man took it, she reached her right hand for her gun, She slid it free and smiled. She gripped the man's hand tight, He didn't let go. She turned, shooting the two men behind her, one in the neck, one in the chest. She turned to the man on her right, shooting him twice in the stomach. The man she held hand with was looking at the others in shock.
She turned to him, "One on one seems more fair, dontcha think?"
His eyes were wide with fear, "You're fucking crazy lady." he tugged his hands but she didn't let him go.
"Where you going big boy?" She pointed the gun at him. "I need you to pass a message along for me."
"To who? What are you talking about?"
She smiled. "If you see Joker, or any of his men, pass a message for me."
"I don't fuck with Joker." he said.
"Then you are useless." she pushed the gun up to his forehead.
"No, wait, what's the message? I'll get it to him, or some one who can. I will."
She smiled "That's more like it."
She hit the man hard across his temple, knocking him to the ground unconscious. She rolled him onto his back and pulled up his shirt. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small swiss army knife, she took her time carving her message into the mans chest.
