Sorry this took a while to do...school's recently started back so I am a bit booked but either way I hope you enjoy.
People assume that the older you get, the more things will change. You will become wiser. You will become more courageous. You would even become stronger. While all those things may be true to an extent most people may not realize it but some aspects don't change at all. Wormmon could attest to that as he stared at the pair of red eyes that were glancing back at him inside the vent. Off all the things he expected to find in here, a young white haired girl was not one of them, because of course it had to be a child. Was he afraid of her, no he was not, but he was afraid of what would happen to him if the others found out his cover was blown inside the yakuza base.
"Um hello." The bug digimon said nervously. The girl was rather silent looking at him…no she was examining him, he realized. He took a step closer and the girl shifted back. She was afraid of him…was that good or bad? He wanted to ask for a name but it would be impolite. He would have to give her a name as well and that was risky, time to use an alias. "My name is Van." He told her. "Short for Vanguard." He explained. "What's yours?" He asked.
"Um…my name is Eri." The girl answered.
"Okay Eri….what are you doing here?" He asked cautiously.
"I saw you and that ghost lady appear, and then she disappeared and I followed you." Eri said nervously and her voice trembling. Wormmon gulped when he heard that. They've been found he realized. "Um ….are you alright?" Eri asked as she noticed Van start to sweat ridiculous amounts of water.
"Yes…Yes…Everything is fine. No need to worry." Wormmon said. He needed to get Erika, but he couldn't leave the kid. Could he take the kid? Would that be kidnapping? He wasn't a kidnapper.
"Mr. Van….you and the ghost lady aren't from here?" Eri asked. It was more of a statement. They wouldn't be sneaking around if they were. "You're from the outside right?" She asked her voice breaking. Wormmon watched as her face started to twist up as her eyes started to fill with tears. Suddenly Wormmon felt it, an intense wave emotion being released from the girl at such close range. Sadness and despair were the most prominent. He could feel the waves hit him like a tsunami. She was hurting. She was hurting far more than any child should. "Can you please take me away from here? I don't want to stay here anymore. " She whispered as she pulled him into a hug and Wormmon's mind was immediately flooded with countless memories none of his own.
Wormmon felt himself get pulled apart and reassembled. He saw blood empty out of his body like a tap. Feelings of being slice and cut into many pieces only to be put together again. It was awful. "Your power is a curse." A man…no…a devil's voice echoed in his head.
Wormmon immediately pulled himself back, trying to not lose himself in the intense emotions of the girl, lest he dark digivolve in such a small space. He immediately regretted his decisions as he saw the girl ready to cry. Thinking quick and on reflex Wormmon did the only logical thing he could think of at the time. He head-butted the girl and knocked her out. "Oh dear." He realized, "I'm gonna be dead meat now." He said when he realized what happen. After suffering a brief panic attack, Wormmon managed to regain his composure if only enough to contact Erika. Safe to say she was not pleased with him, not even in the slightest. After sending her his location…Wormmon waited patiently for her to come. As he waited he looked over the girl's face, she looked so young and innocent…kind of like how Erika was before the accident. The serene expression just made him want to protect her at all costs…if he lived through the hell the others would put him through for harming her.
It was times like these he wished he was still young and running about with the more inexperienced sleuths. He wondered what some of them were doing right now.
"So how exactly does this process work?" Present Mic asked as he and Sayo walked through the hall. He was a little bit curious about the whole cyber sleuth deal.
"Well it's pretty straight forward. You give me the job. I do the job. You pay me after although since I still have community service for the school I don't think I should be paid for this since it's at school." Sayo said.
"Well to be fair the major radio station is across town, but I just have this small setup here to make things easier." Mic explained as they reached his studio in school. "So technically you're being employed my radio show as opposed to U.A. itself." Mic said.
"I can still deny pay."
"Isn't that bad for business... I mean if you help people for free won't you go bankrupt?"
"The business is the internet cafe; this is Hudie's way of giving back to the community." Sayo informed him. "Besides...you don't need a reason to help people." Sayo told him.
"You're going to try for the hero course with the sports festival?" Present Mic.
"Nah its not my style." Sayo said as they entered the studio. She glanced around it was impressive. It had a good bit of equipment as well as few more personal items she assumed belong to Present Mic. "So where's the sound system?" She asked.
"Oh just a sec let me set it up." The teacher said as he went to hoop it up. While he did that Sayo glanced around the room. If she was being honest it felt more like an apartment than an actual room in the school. There was a small bed, a closet and even a few photos of family and friend nearby. Sayo glanced at the photos curiously seeing who she assumed were Present Mic's family and friends. One photo stuck out to her curiously. It was a photo with a young Present Mic, and two others, one with a dark hair and a tired and bored looking expression and the other with light blue hair and a much more cheery and lively disposition.
"Alright I've got it all setup." Present Mic said as he called Sayo. Sayo left the pictures as she walked to see her teacher.
"That's some retro tech." Sayo said as she looked over the device. "I'll have it fixed and upgraded in 15 minutes." She added.
"That fast!" Mic remarked.
"I'm just checking the software of a music system right? Its not like I have to hack into the world's most secure technology facility." Sayo said, although she might as well did. I-island certainly hadn't improved there security in the slightest in the past year. Sure they made updates but they didn't even detect her in the slightest. Ironically she actually detected several other hackers who were trying to enter the system and blocked them almost immediately why the scientists were none the wiser.
"Just be careful." Mic said as he let Sayo get work. She took out her digivice and a computer plugging them into the music system. As the code started to scramble across the screen, she put on her goggles and activated them as the code started processing through her computer while her teacher watched her work.
"Can I ask you something?" Sayo asked her teacher as she worked on the code.
"That depends on what it is." Mic responded.
"What's the story with this system?" Sayo asked. "I mean I understand from technical standpoint that with enough work you can get any old machine to run smoothly but most people aren't tech savvy enough to do it and they would rather replace it all together with newer models and stuff than repair old ones. So why didn't you just replace it?" Sayo added. "What's the sentimental story behind it?"
"Hmm...well it's simple it was a gift from my parents." Mic answered. "When I was a little kid I wanted to be a DJ first and they had gifted me this, the had saved up a lot of money to do so. It was pretty advance back then but it still had a few bugs. Eventually though I realized I wanted to be a hero as well but I was a lot older then. I didn't want to make them feel like it was all a waste so I kept it and used it to help fund my hero career. I would DJ at small parties and stuff in my free time to make the extra cash while I went to U.A."
"That's kind of sweet." Sayo said as she ran the code through the compiler the first time. She put an earbud to one of her ears as Lunamon attempted to test the program; it was good but needed some more refining. "So are you using it to DJ for the sports festival?" Sayo asked as she started working on the second version of the program.
"Nah the sports festival has a much more sophisticated one. This is just for when I run my radio show although lately it was glitching out." Present Mic informed. "Speaking if which you're entering right?" He asked. "Gonna try for the hero course to be in the same glass as your friend?" Mic theorized.
"Not really." Sayo said. "Don't get me wrong I'm entering it alright but I'm doing it just to have fun." She added.
"And what exactly is your idea of having fun?" Mic asked.
"I want to hang out with my friends and compete." Sayo said simply as she tested the second version of the program. "Of course they all have their own reasons for entering; the heroes want to get scouted, Shinso wants to transfer and Mei wants to show of her babies."
"Um Babies?" Mic asked.
"Her inventions." Sayo clarified. "She's a support student."
"Ah I see. That makes sense." Mic said.
"I was actually talking with Izuku earlier about making a team to compete." Sayo said. The second program was good...still could be better though.
"You're planning to make a team?" Mic said in surprise.
"Its not against the rules right?" Sayo asked.
"Not really unless of course you cheat by being outside interference." Mic said.
"Its not like that." Sayo defended. "I was just thinking that since a lot of people are going to be competing it would be better to get some friends instead. We could watch each other's back and cover each other."
"Well I suppose that is fair." Mic said. "Hehe reminds me of when I was in U.A. During the sports festival we had an obstacle course to go through. The teachers really seemed to have it out for us as they made a pit of jelly."
"Jelly?" Sayo asked as she worked on the third version.
"It was a special type of jelly. You had to cross it to get to the other side. Of course through it was a nightmare. Hard to move in and I'm pretty sure it was full of ants."
"Why would they even do that?"
"It was the idea of one our more 'eccentric' teachers." Mic admitted. "Any way...one of my friends had the ability to make clouds, solid like clouds mind you. He went and made a huge cloud for us to ride one and we managed to cleared the course. We didn't win though but it was a pretty memorable moment for us and that year in particular. I literally used my voice as sort of sound propulsion system as we sailed to the top 10."
"That's pretty funny." Sayo said. "I'll have to look it up later." She added.
"I don't think there has ever been any one else topping that level of teamwork we displayed." Mic said.
"Challenge accepted." Sayo smiled as she tested the third version. She almost had it. "I think I known why there isn't much team work in the sports festival though." Sayo added.
"Really? Why?"
"Most people in U.A. at least to my knowledge only really look out for themselves." Sayo said earning a raised eyebrow from Mic. "I'm not saying that they are selfish, although some might be. I'm saying is that while everyone wants to be heroes. They've all gotten a warped idea that being hero means you need to be the best." Sayo explained. "Nothing is wrong with being the best...but when it starts to cloud your judgement it's a dangerous thing." She said as she worked and version 4.
"Speaking from experience." Mic said.
"I was going to check on Izuku and his friends yesterday and I saw the rest of the first years there. At first I thought maybe they want to check to see if there classmates were alright, but nope they were just there to antagonize them. Some were even calling them lucky or spoiled because of the villain incident. They called being attacked by villains something to be jealous about." Sayo said her voice hardening. "They may all want to be heroes, they may all have good intentions but they all need to learn humility and compassion first." Sayo said as she executed the fourth program. One more and she should be good.
"It gets even hard to sympathize though when you have people like Bakugo though." Sayo growled.
"Wait isn't he in 1-A?" Mic added.
"Yep...and he's got the biggest ego to boot. I knew him back in Middle school and he's always been on a high horse thanks to his quirk." Sayo informed. "His response to the other classes was that he was what a pro hero looked like and then he insulted then calling them extras."
"Yeah I can see why you would think that now." Mic said.
"Yeah." Sayo said as she worked on the with version. "Back home I knew someone who shared similar mindsets." Sayo informed. "Big ego, lack of compassion for his teammates and a burning desire to be the best." Sayo added. "He was my best friend, Koh." She explained. "He shared a similar mind set to them and well...he's not around anymore." She finished.
"Oh." Her teacher said.
"I used to think it was cool and he was confident but I was wrong...very wrong." She admitted. "Okay I think almost have it." Sayo said changing the topic. "Ready to test it out." Her teacher nodded as he went to grap his microphone.
Sayo looked at the code as she executed the program for the 5th time. Lifting up her goggles she pressed the play button turning on the speakers. The speakers came life playing a very familiar tune that the girl had grown up with as she raised up her hand. It began with the melody before the lyrics started. "In a dream, I can say, you are not far away. Anytime, any place, I can see you your face. You are that special one that I've been waiting for and I hope your looking for someone like me." Sayo then turned to Present Mic as she brought her hand down signaling him.
The hero followed her signal and spoke into the microphone. "Testing testing. It's a beautiful day out side, birds are singing and flowers a blooming. In days like these listeners like you should be listening to Mic Music. Brought to you by me...Present Mic." The hero spoke into the Mic. When he finished Sayo waited a few minutes before the song concluded and then she turned off the music.
Present Mic walked over to her after they were done. "How was that?" He asked her.
"You tell me." Sayo replied as she played the recording of the session. The clip played starting over with the song. It started as it usually did and played as usual and then came the moment Present Mic had interrupted the song. Usually when a radio show host interrupted the music they would usually need to lower the volume of the song or just lower certain frequencies in the song, that wasn't the case here. Present Mic had kept speaking and the song had lowered the volume on the vocals entirely while lowering the instrumental parts enough that he could have easily spoken over.
"Wow...now you're good." He told her.
"All I did was program the system to recognize your voice and adjust the settings of everything to suit automatically." Sayo said. "That's all."
"Little listener...I've been doing this gig for quite a few years now. It's always difficult to adjust the volume on these things to a point where your voice can blend smoothly with the music and not be drowned out by the lyrics...and that's when you do it manually. You managed to rig thus to work without me having to even touch it. That's some mad skills there alone." The teacher told her.
"Yeah well I'm not done yet." Sayo informed him. "That's was one of the quiet and more slow paced songs. I need to test it out with several other genres to make sure it works for you properly." She told him.
"Can do... what's next?" Present Mic asked.
"That song was called 'Dreams Dreams' its peaceful and relaxing. Next song is going to be the exact opposite. I got something adrenaline pumping." She said as she changed the track. "Ready?" She asked as she set up the music player.
"Yeah."
Sayo pressed to play button as the next song started.
Aizawa was walking to class after long night of patrol. He had been trying to sleep in the teacher's lounge but was rudely awaken by some loud rock music. It wasn't the students so he quickly deduced it belonged to only one person, Yamada. When he got his hands on him he was going to tying him to the flag pole with his capture scarf.
He was just about to reach Mic's little radio station that had been setup in the school when he heard the heavy guitar riffs and drums. "Hero. I don't do it for the praising or reward. Don't applaud with your big standing ovation. Hero, I'll fight knowing no body knows my name." Hearing the lyrics Aizawa raised on eyebrow in surprise at the music. He had never heard that one before.
"Enjoying the music so far, well keep listening...we've got more retro hits coming to you soon." Mic said as he turned off the radio. "Well that's a wrap. That was the last one, right?" Mic asked his student before he noticed Aizawa. "Oh hey Eraserhead." He said happily. "What brings you to this side of U.A. ?"
"You know why." Aizawa deadpanned. "You've been making quite the racket down here...far more than you usually do." Eraser growled.
"Hehe...my bad." Present Mic said as he nervously scratched behind his head. " I was just testing out some new stuff with my systems. Sorry about that." He apologized only to earn a glare from Aizawa before the underground hero just let out a sigh.
"As long as it doesn't happen again." Eraser said as he looked around the room and his eyes fell on Sayo. "Who's she?" Eraser asked bluntly.
"Oh this is Sayo." Mic introduced. "Sayo this..."
"Underground hero, Eraserhead." Sayo finished
"So you've heard off him...that's...um...surprising." Present Mic said. Eraser turned to his fellow teacher.
"What's that suppose to mean." Eraser said.
"Nothing. It's just during class I heard comments how Sayo couldn't tell the different between All Might and Captain Celebrity." Mic said.
"What's the difference?" Sayo asked. "They're both blonde, bulky and there tights that leave very little to imagine." She said in her defense. "Besides I only know about you because several of my friends are in your class." Sayo said. "And your stupid quirk assessment test had you targeted for a digimon attack." She thought, "but you don't remember that."
"Well that is surprising." Aizawa muttered. "So why is she here." He said getting back to the point.
"Oh Sayo was helping me modify my music system." Mic said like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"Um...why?"
"Because I needed to get this done for the longest while and Power loader was always too busy." Mic said. Aizawa pinched the bridge of his nose.
"No. I mean why do you have a student doing this and why is she not in class." Aizawa said.
"Um...she's sort of on suspension." Mic answered.
"What?"
One explanation later.
"Okay." Aizawa said.
"Really...that's all you're going to say." Mic asked. "No dry quips. No sarcasm. No witty retort."
"Did you come up with the idea?"
"Well no."
"Then I'm not surprised it was smart idea." Aizawa deadpanned.
"Ow." Present Mic said as he clutched his heart. "You wound me." He mocked.
"You'll live." Aizawa said, cracking a small smile. "Now if you'll excuse me I got to head to class. If I leave them too long they might probably hurt themselves or blow up the room." He told his friend.
"Yeah Bakugo is moronic enough to do that." Sayo said. "And he does have severe anger management issues." She added. This earned her a look from both teachers. "Yes I know it sounds hyporcritical but I had legitimate reason, I had a panic attack. He was just a bully and being cruel because he knew he could have gotten away with it."
"Yet you still injured 10 of your classmates."
"Least I never tried to blow up someone in a training exercise."
"Hmmm." Aizawa said thoughtfully. "You make a good point...they need to be more cautious when they fight and have more self control." He said as he thought out loud before turning to Sayo with a rather creepy looking smile. "That's it...next training exercise they are going to do save the citizen." He told them. "And you'll help." Aizawa said to Sayo.
"Ahhh...what?" Sayo said in disbelief but Aizawa didn't respond as he immediately left. Sayo tried to follow him but he was already gone.
"What just happened?" Sayo asked Present Mic.
"Eraserhead just recruited you to be a training dummy." Present Mic said.
"Eh...I've had worse." Sayo said absentmindedly as she looked at the music player. She pressed a button.
"Wooooowoooowoooo here we go wooooowoooowoooooo here we go wooooowoooowooo." The song rang.
Question of the day...plain and simple while most of the mha cast and digimon cast have english voice actors, Sayo doesn't. She has a voice actor in japan but I don't really speak japanese or understand it outside of sub. So who do you think would be a good English voice actor for Sayo? If you don't know the VA just list the character they voice from games, anime, movies in general. And don't give me the whole dub vs sub debate...Both are good in there respective areas and are up to the person's preference. For me I would say the VA of Maki from Fire Force would fit her but that's just me.
