Here comes the reunion to end all reunions...and a lot more as well.

Heartening Surprises

Dateline, August 26th, 1206.

The next day arrived and we were in the cafeteria room, along with Elise and Tio who were now with us.

"Everyone, allow me to extend my thanks once again." Elise said.

"Me too. You really saved us back there." Tio added. "Though I'll admit, it was a little fun helping the Professor out."

"And the way I see it, Michael seems to have learned the errors of his ways, and is back to helping us again, along the with main campus students." I said. "And it's like I said before, there's no need for me to sacrifice any of them. The only one I have a problem with is Cedric, the rest of Class I have nothing to do with it."

Alfin sighed.

"Oh...sorry, I forgot that you're with us now."

"It's all right, Alex." She replied. "The actions of my brother have been certainly unforgivable. But still, I wish there was another way..."

"Your Highness..." Elise said.

"I'll never stop hoping for that, either." Kurt added. "Even though Alex may have to..."

"There's no need to force your words out." I intervened. "It's a difficult position your family is in, but remember that I need to either do this, or all of us and this world will be done for."

"Speaking of which, it's been a while since you went after your first target." Celine said. "Have you decided who to go after next?"

"Well, that'll depend on whether we've got any leads or not."

"Welp. I'd say we've hit a good point for me to split." Agate said. "Still no news from Scherazard, but I should probably get in contact with Estelle and the others."

"Okay. They're still on the east side of the Empire, right?" Tita asked.

"I'm not goin' back to Crossbell just yet, but we should get in touch with Lloyd and them, too." Randolph said. "How 'bout you, Tio Tot? Bet you're itchin' to head back home?"

"Yeah, it sounds like Jona's been having some trouble without me." Tio answered. "Plus, I'd like to see Kea. And Lloyd and Elie, too."

"Speaking of the east side, has anything happened in Crossbell?" I asked.

"Well, as it happens, yesterday's events have caused another increase in surveillance." Gaius replied. "It's particularly risky over the eastern regions. I'll try to hash out a workable route, but no promises."

Juna sighed. "That bad, huh?"

"Well, we did stir up a shitstorm and a half over here." Crow said.

"His Royal Highness must be raising the security around him. Guess that means he ain't takin' this so well." Ash added.

"Well, we won't ask you to do the impossible." Randolph said. "You can wait, right, Tio Tot?"

"Of course." Tio nodded. "I can help out around the ship in the meantime."

"I guess that goes for me, too, but aren't things gonna get a little cramped in here?" Agate asked.

"Yeah, we really do need a much bigger ship." I sighed. "If only we had something as big as the Courageous."

"No one's going anywhere." Rean said. "Not while we're wanted on the ground."

"We're getting to the point where we need to think about our next course of action, though." Sara added. "We got everyone back. That takes care of our original goal."

Laura hummed. "I assume we'll need to find a safe place to split up from. Unfortunately, the Imperial Defense Force seems to have a strong presence in Legram right now."

"They, do huh?" Elliot asked.

"Hmph." Duvalie folded her arms. "The nerve of those scumbags to hail from the same place as my lord. Sickening, the lot of them."

"Bareahard's no good either." Jusis said. "It's essentially Imperial Defense Force territory at this point."

Alisa nodded. "Same story over in Roer. You think they're prioritizing the east, maybe?"

"Well, it would make sense. Since Calvard is to the east as well." I replied.

Fie nodded. "Yep, what he said."

"In that case, this could be just the opportunity we've been waiting for." Musse said.

"What do you mean, Musse?" Elise asked.

"I sincerely apologize for the interruption everyone." Rosine spoke over the speakers. "I've just received a transmission for Musse. Well, for all of you, actually."

Ash frowned. "Oh, come on."

"Honestly, Musse. Your timing is impeccable." Alfin said.

"Guess we should've seen it coming." Angelica added.

"Pure coincidence, I assure you." Musse replied. "It's nothing to be afraid of, really. Though I do think you may be surprised. It should settle everything we were just discussing in a single swoop."

I scratched my head. "Uhh, we don't quite follow."

"What are you planning?" Altina asked.

"It's fine. I think I know where this is going." Rean replied.

"Rosine, can you patch us through?" Gaius asked.

We then saw the monitor switch on, and it was Aurelia.

"Ah, good. You've already gathered." She said. "Schwarzer. Damon. Class VII. I see you've kept busy this past week."

"At least my real surname is being spread far and wide." I muttered.

"Herschel, Russell, Lady Elise. A pleasure to see you again. Your Highness and Lady Angelica...I'm glad to see you both unharmed."

"Well, we've been through a few bumps, but we're still ready for more. So what's the situation?"

"I'm certain Lady Mildine has covered everything quite thoroughly, but there's something I'd like to speak with you about, nonetheless. We will be holding a special meeting of sorts later this afternoon. I do hope you can join us."

"A special meeting?" Alfin asked.

"That is correct. I would like all of you to attend. Both Class VIIs, as well as the Liberl and Crossbell teams. I expect you'll find it a reunion to end all reunions."

"What'd you say?" Agate asked.

"Hold on a sec, Principal!" Randolph said. "You can't just spring this on us all of a sudden!"

"A reunion to end all reunions." Tio muttered.

"So you mean, everyone we were just talking about..." Tita paused.

Musse giggled. "I'll just leave that up to your imagination. Though some of the encounters awaiting you may be beyond even that."

"Um, would you mind giving us a hint, maybe?" Elliot asked.

"You mean we're going to be attacked by our foes along the way to our meeting?" I guessed.

"That'd be a good guess." Sara replied.

"It's fine, we can leave it be." Rean said. "We'll find out ourselves soon enough. The whole picture behind this Operation Mille Mirage, that is."

"Wait, you mean you plan to start it earlier than planned?" I asked.

"Enacting it would result in casualties unimaginable. But it may be the only choice we have." Kurt said.

"Must be one hell of a plan to draw folks in from all over." Crow added. "Which begs the question, where's the venue?"

"There's only one place I can think of..." Rean said.

I nodded. "If it's to house all of us whilst avoiding the ground...it can only be The Pantagruel!"

"You may give your response to Lady Mildine." Aurelia said. "For now, I'll assume you're all coming and prepare accordingly. Farewell for now."

The transmission then ended.

"So then, what shall we do?" Musse asked. "There's no guarantee we won't run into some degree of danger, given the nature of the location."

We looked at each other and we all nodded in agreement.

"Let Principal Le Guin know we'd be honored to accept." Rean declared.

"But to do that, we first have to know where it is we're heading." Alfin said.

"Of course." Musse replied before she got out her Arcus, and then on the monitor screen, we saw a detailed map. "Here it is, a neutral airspace above the borders of Erebonia, Calvard and Liberl. The flagship of the Weissland Army, the Pantagruel, will be arriving there this afternoon."

"Well, if we're going to charge into an ambush over there, we'll need to be on red alert." I replied. "I think we're gonna need to double time my element training."

"All right, we'll focus on learning two elements instead of one." Emma said.

We then broke off, and whilst Rean who agreed to let Juna and Kurt be his escorts this time, as well as a few others went off to do requests, I was in the training room once more, learning two elements to add to my already impressive arsenal of new powers. Starting with the earth element.

"All right, Alex. In your own time." Emma said.

I nodded and reached my arm out. "Earth...Axe!" It appeared and there were tiny glowing rocks around it.

"Good. Now take a moment and we'll begin the next one." Celine said.

The training then resumed and the other element was holy magic, the exact opposite of my darkness that I had already mastered thanks to my demon powers. That also took a while, but I was ready to call for it as I reached my arm out again.

"Holy...Lance!"

It appeared and several glowing orbs of light shone around the lance.

"Yes. You did it." Emma praised.

"Learning and mastering two elements at once takes skill." Celine said. "That's now a total of five elements, or six if you want to add your own to the list."

"Well, that's true, since my demon powers contain a lot of darkness, so I might consider that as an element." I replied. "Meaning that I now have six elements that I can use on twelve different weapons. And therefore, I can mix and match during a battle."

"Not quite, I'm afraid. If you want to use both at the same time, you'll need to get your soul to become stronger. And that means..."

"Oh...another sacrifice would need to happen." I sighed.

"But we can worry about that later."

Emma nodded. "I agree, let's rest before we have to be ready by afternoon."

Celine then left the training room.

"You know, Alex. I actually spoke with Alisa yesterday."

"Oh, what about?" I asked.

"She mentioned that she got a fashion ring as a gift from Rean a few months ago. She was shocked to get one, she thought that he was planning to propose to her, but then she realized that it wasn't what he meant."

"Well, well...looks like Rean was planning unintentionally much further ahead than any of us were." I rubbed my head. "And now, it's got me thinking if I could be worthy of making that move."

Emma blushed. "Oh...are you planning to volunteer?"

I blinked and I started blushing as well. "Oh my...umm, well, I don't mean to bring the mood down, but it'll depend on whether we'll be able to save the world as one."

"Yes. You need to do your part." She then hugged me. "I just pray to Aidios that we can win at the very end."

I held her close in response. "Me too, my love...me too."

We then left the training room together to get food since the afternoon was almost arriving.

Afer lunch was done, we all regrouped on the bridge and the airship was travelling over to the neutral airspace that was over the borders between Erebonia, Liberl and Clavard. Just in view, were a pair of small airships and The Pantagruel itself.

"Merkabah Unit 8, this is The Pantagruel. You have been given permission to land. Please follow the beacon." A voice said on the communications radio.

"Understood. Initiating automated boarding." Rosine replied.

"Wow. We really are over a three-way border, if only just barely." Machias said.

"The nonintervention zone should span the entire surrounding area...supposedly." Agate added.

I nodded. "Hopefully...it's been a long time since I was on the Pantagruel."

"Yes. You were there for a while to gain better control on your powers" Altina said.

"But did we really have to go all the way here just to find out what Mille Mirage is about?" Juna asked.

Just then, a smaller ship came into view, a landing craft for the Pantagruel, and then a gunship that I hadn't seen before.

"Scout ships from the Pantragruel, and more from the northeast and south." Laura said.

"Northeast and south...Calvard and Liberl, I assume?" I asked.

Altina nodded. "That makes their origins clear, geographically speaking."

"So the one from the east is..." Elliot paused.

"...a new state-of-the-art military gunship from the Republic. Courtesy of the Verne Company." Alisa finished.

"That's right." Tio agreed. "Complete with a higher carrying capacity and expanded cruising range."

"So many people, from so many different regions, gathered together for one purpose." Emma said.

"So we'll be shoulder to shoulder with exclusive VIPs?" I asked.

"Indeed. Important figures from each one of our neighboring countries." Musse replied. "The Kingdom of Liberl, the Principality of Reiferia, and even the Republic of Calvard. And if all goes to plan, we'll have a few special guests from the Bracer Guild and the SSS join us, too."

The front door of the Pantagruel opened and the airship went inside, docking next to the bobcat. We then all left the ship to walk onto the frontal dockway.

Ash sighed. "Been about a month, hasn't it?"

"Oh right. This is where you escaped from, right, Ash?" Kurt asked.

"Wow this ship is huge." Juna said. "Hey, that's the Bobcat II!"

"It's just like Josette said." Altina added.

A pair of soliders and General Bardias then arrived to greet us.

"So you showed up after all." He said.

"Brigider Geneal Bardais. You're looking well." Rean responded.

"As do you, Schwarzer, despite everything General Le Guin and Miss Clotilde tell me you've been through. Your Highness. Lady Angelica. It's a pleasure to have you back safely with us."

"Who'd've thought we'd be meeting here on the Pantagruel like this." Angelica said.

"Agreed. Things have taken a real turn since Ordis' last provincial council. What happens here today, could very well change the course of history."

"The course of history?" Machias repeated.

"Quite the assemblage, then." Jusis said.

Musse nodded. "Indeed it is. In fact, some of our guests have already arrived. Though many of them are simply here to observe."

"Follow me everyone." Bardias said.

We followed him and the soliders from the dock area and made our way to the guest area.

"Wow...the guest area." I said quietly. "This brings back memories."

"Yeah, this was where we were, when we were captured by the former Duke Cayenne." Rean added.

"I was about to say that." Juna said. "You, Alex and Allie were here before, right?"

"Yes." Altina answered. "Although Instructor Rean was on board for one day, Alex remained here until the former Duke Cayanne ended his affiliation with him, before he was sent to Trista."

I nodded. "Feels like a lifetime ago now."

"This also brings back memories." Alfin said. "Rean carried me in his arms once."

"Oh, right, I forgot about that." Crow added. "Man, there was a lot going on that day."

Duvalie sighed. "I doubt anyone there that day expected that sort of...daring escape from you."

"Hold it! I think that's enough teasing for one day." I intervened. "Sure I wasn't there when it happened, but come on now. He's not a ladies man, he is a man who is in love, but still needs to understand what it means to love someone."

"Hehe, we already know, Alex." Towa said. "It just means that we all like him, and that we cherish our friendship with him."

"Yeah, weren't you the one who said 'I cherish our friendship as if you were my brother' the other day?" Crow teased.

"Damn, he said all that with a straight face?" Randolph asked.

I hid my face in embarassment. "Sara...permission to yell out in embarrassment?"

"Denied." She smirked.

Fie and Emma giggled at the same time.

"Wow, looks like the party's already started." A familiar voice said.

"Kinda feels like this meeting was a long time coming, huh?" Another voice added.

We then turned to see the SSS and the Bracers arrive as they came towards us.

"Well, I'll be." Randolph said quietly.

"Heh, took you guys long enough." Agate added.

In front of us were Estelle, Joshua, Renne, Lloyd, Kea and Elie.

"It's been a while, Tita." Estelle said.

"Have you grown a few rege, or am I imaginining things?" Joshua asked.

"Estelle...Joshua...and..." Tita paused.

Renne giggled. "Hello again, Tita. Remember our promise?"

"Renne!"

Tita rushed up to hug both Renne and Estelle.

Renne sighed. "So melodramatic...and here I thought you two'd have grown out of this by now."

"You're one to talk. I can see you getting a little choked up, yourself." Joshua said.

"Well, the way I see it, no one's ever too old to have or share hugs." I replied.

Sara, Fie and Agate joined in the convo with the Bracers whilst Randolph, Juna and I talked with the SSS.

"TIO!" Kea yelled as she hugged her.

"Oof...nice tackle, Kea." Tio responded. "Lloyd, Elie. I'm glad you guys managed to come."

"Of course. We wouldn't miss this." Lloyd said.

"Oh, I can't help myself. Come here you two!" Elie then hugged the both of them.

"Elie...I can't...breathe." Tio said weakly.

I laughed. "I guess some things in life never change."

"Yeah, pretty much." Lloyd replied. "Good to see you're doing well, Alex. Thanks for helping Randy and saving Tio, you're fast becoming a hero to us, you know."

"A hero to the SSS? No, no...I'm nowhere near getting on that pedastal yet."

"Heh, what did I tell you? He's a real joker." Randolph said.

"And we didn't forget about you, Juna." Lloyd continued. "Kea's been telling us about all you've been up to."

"We heard that you and Alex helped Randy set Tio free." Elie added. "I'm so proud of you."

Juna blushed. "Oh, um well...that was more Class VII as a whole. It was just part of our mission. As someone who's always looked up to the SSS, it's so great seeing all of you back together again."

"What do you mean? You're one of us too, Juna!" Kea said.

Tio agreed. "You're a lot closer to the SSS than you give yourself credit for. Both you and Alex."

"That's right." Elie nodded. "You both carry on the spirit of Crossbell in your own ways."

"I think we're all aware of how much you look up to the SSS. But you know what?" Lloyd asked. "It goes both ways. We're just as proud of you two. Every one of us."

Juna sniffed. "Thank you..."

"All right, I suppose I can accept the praise I've earned." I sighed. "I'll need it if I wanna overcome my greatest burden."

"Greatest burden?" Elie repeated.

"Oh, is this to do with your powers?" Lloyd asked.

I looked at Randolph and he nodded, as if to say to not be shy about it.

"Yeah, but it's more than that." I answered before I removed the headgear and lifted the cape.

Kea gasped. "What are those?"

"They look like demon ears and a demon tail." Tio said. "So it's true, he's starting to transform."

"Yeah, but he's found a way to stop it." Juna added. "It's just a matter of when he'll get the chance."

I put the headgear back on and let the cape go. "Well, I shouldn't be letting the mood down, this is all about reunions and forming a grand alliance. Speaking of which, here's our leading guy."

The Bracers and the SSS looked at Rean.

"I suppose I'd better introduce myself for those of you who don't know me." He said. "My name is Rean Schwarzer, graduate of Thors Military Academy, Class VII. Elie, Estelle and Joshua. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"The pleasure is ours." Elie replied. "Alisa's told me quite a bit about you already. Perhaps a bit too much, actually."

Alisa blushed. "Elie..."

"We definitely know you by now, after all the stories we've heard." Joshua said. "From Tita's letter, and Renne. Even Olivier and Toval."

"I see." Rean nodded. "It's no surprise you knew His Highness, but I wasn't aware you knew Toval, too."

"Yep. We met back on our first trip in Erebonia. He helped us out a bunch." Estelle said. "It's good to meet you, Rean. This has definitely been a long time coming. Don't worry. You can loosen up around us. We're the same age, more or less, right?"

"Hah, got it. I think I'll take you up on that."

"And the same goes for you, Alex." Joshua said as he held his hand out. "We didn't get to talk last time, but I wanna say that any good friend of the SSS, is a good friend of ours."

I smiled and shook his hand. "Thanks, Bracers. We're looking forward to working together."

Rean turned to Lloyd and he seemed hesitant to shake his hand. I suppose it's understandable, based on what Rean told me when he and Altina met Lloyd and some other person named Rixia back in Crossbell over a year ago.

"Honestly...I'm not sure if I deserve to shake your hand." Rean said. "I'm sure you've heard...about what I've done. The mistake I made. It's my fault that the curse spread throughout not only the Empire, but Crossbell, too. It's the same with North Ambria and Jurai as well, even this awful war with Calvard. I have no idea how I can even begin to apologize-"

"No, Rean, that's wrong." Lloyd interupted. "It's my duty as a detective to look beyond what's on the surface. You wanna know what I see? I see that this was all a setup from the very start. Nothing you could have done would've possibly changed the outcome. I see a man who, despite it all, never fell to despair. A man who continues to push back, even at this very moment. Not just for Crossbell, or even Erebonia, but for the world itself, and all who reside in it. Within you lies the strength of countless allies, helping you move forward through whatever may come. I'd like the SSS to be a part of that Rean. To be one of those allies there by your side. Empire or Crossbell, where we're from doesn't matter anymore. Now, we're fighting for the world itself. Together."

"Lloyd..."

"This guy, I swear." Randolph said.

"Well, looks like you two have more in common than we thought." I added.

Kurt stood by Juna. "Now I see why you look up to him."

"Hehe, yup! Told you he was great." Juna replied.

"Wow. How am I supposed to follow up a speech like that?" Rean asked.

"You don't." I answered. "Well said, Lloyd. As the number two of Rean's group, I happily welcome you all as one alliance."

I shook Lloyd's hand.

Rean then finally shook his hand. "I'll gladly take your words to heart. It's good to have you with us, Lloyd."

"Of course, our situation is girm for us, and its gonna get worse." I said. "But the more allies we have, the better the chance that we'll survive this whole ordeal."

There were nods of agreement from all of us.

"Heh, I see you saved me the trouble of rounding you up."

That was when Aurelia showed up.

"Principal Le Guin." Rean greeted.

"Right on time. Is everything ready?" Musse asked.

Aurealia nodded. "Bracers of Liberl, Special Support Section. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Aurelia Le Guin. Well met, all of you. I'd love to chat with each of you individually, of course, but time is of the essence. I suspect our other guests are anxious to get things underway."

That was when the other VIPs guests turned up, including the two ladies we encountered a few weeks back. As the introductions were exchanged, I suddenly had a 'foresight' vision of the Pantagruel being invaded by our foes which included a giant aion. I had to get Emma and Celine's attention.

"Celine, Emma...my foresight granted me a vision." I whispered. "We're gonna be attacked soon, can we get started on my powers now?"

"Foresight? The one grandmother talked about?" Emma whispered.

"Yeah."

"Okay, just bare with us for a while." Celine whispered.

I listened carefully as Emma and Celine sneakfully helped me in transferring some strong mana so that I was ready to face the attack. Two more VIPs then showed up and with that, the VIP meeting was underway with Musse, Alfin and Elise attending because of their obligations.

The rest of us were still in the guest area whilst the Bracers and SSS broke off with us.

"So this is what Operation Mille Mirage is all about." I said. "Can't say I'm surprised, considering the VIP people involved."

"Yeah, and now they're all chit-chat with each other." Crow said. "That Musse is a real matchmaker."

"She even reached out to Remiferia...wow." Juna added.

I hummed. "I wonder what Remiferia and Liberl are like, maybe I should travel to those places sometime."

"That'll be difficult right now, considering the war with Calvard is near." Machias said.

"Yeah, that may be the topic of dicussion for today." Rean agreed. "While those nations can't openly oppose the Empire, we, along with the bracers and the Special Support Section, are more free to take action."

"So what can we do in the meantime?" I asked.

"I believe this would be a good opportunity to speak with others and exchange any information we can share." Jusis suggested.

"There's going to be dinner after the main talks." Elliot said. "We can talk about more personal stuff then."

We then broke off and mingled with the others, leaving me with a chance to mentally prepare for the ambush. Whilst Rean went around in talking to everyone, I took the chance to take a walk to the outer floor on the front of the Pantagruel. Feeling the slow breeze of the windy sky.

"Not very fond of mingling with VIPs?" A voice asked.

I turned to see Aurelia who showed up.

"Oh, Principal." I replied. "Seeing all of those nations leaders did overwhelm me a bit, but that's only half the reason. The other half is because it's reminding me that if I don't stop this transformation I'm going through, this whole world will be done for, and all of those VIPs, their nations, everything will be lost."

"But you have learnt of a way, correct?"

"Yeah, if I want to save the world and my life, I must sacrifice five of our foes and inherit thier souls. So far I managed to claim one thanks to Gareth, you probably heard that the Red Constellation suffered heavy losses because of me."

"I have indeed. The red jaegers may as well disband. Zephyr is the only other strong jaeger corp that's still active."

"Right...and at the helm is Rutger, the guy who adopted Fie."

"Dinner will be starting soon, you ready to come back in?"

I shook my head. "I'm not that hungry I'm afraid...I just need a little time alone so I can clear my head."

She nodded. "Very well, just remember that you're not alone in this world. Just like Rean, you have a special connection with those who are on your side."

"Yeah, thanks, Principal."

She then left to go back inside whilst I remained outside. Now that I think about it, I hadn't updated my 'Wanted List' yet. I called for it to appear and I placed a red cross on Gareth's portrait and then added Mariabell's portrait on the list. So the number of targets remained unchanged.

After a while of windy silence, I suddenly heard the faint sound of countless moving airships from far away, they were in a crimson colour, and there was a big aion and two familair foes.

'Shit! Looks like we've got company!'

"What do we have here? A lowly demon drowing in filth?" Cedric remarked.

I gasped. "Cedric!"

"Cool your jets, kid. Don't forget about me." Rutger said.

"You as well?" I responded. "And what's with that Aion?"

"It's a little present from us." Cedric answered. "Oh, and there are two people who've been wanting to see you again."

That was when one of the red airships past by, before a squad of those advanced jaegers and Gilbert dropped down from the ship, several feet away from me.

"Hahahah! We meet again...hm? Is it just you this time?" He asked. "Where are the rest of your friends?"

"Gilbert, here I was thinking you had slinked back to the Grandmaster or something." I replied.

"Me? Slink back? Why of course not! I still have my orders! But it isn't just me you have to see."

"LOOK OUT BELOW!" A voice called before I jumped away just in time to avoid the attack.

I refocused. "Shirley! Nice try with that cheap shot."

"Tch...not as cheap as what you did, murderer!" She glared at me with her chainsaw revving. "You...you freaking peice of shit! YOU'LL PAY FOR WHAT YOU DID TO GARETH!"

"I have a little desire for payback as well." Gilbert added. "We'll be your opponents while the rest of my forces stop your friends."

"And if you somehow overcome both of them, the aion will be your last opponent." Cedric said. "But do be careful, bullets and cannons are already firing in the skies."

He was right, as I could see around me that allied and enemy ships were already attacking. The Pantagruel was firing as well on the giant red ship in the distance.

"Heh, but we won't get involved." Rutger said. "We're saving our strength in case your friends do get here."

I sighed. "Fine then...this may be a handicap, but I need to buy some time for my friends to catch up. Then come at me, just don't expect me to lay down so easily!"

"Oh yeah! I'm getting real fired up now! I'LL MAKE SURE TO BURN YOU ALIVE!" Shirley yelled.

"And I will take great satisfaction when you do eventually fall, hahahaha!" Gilbert laughed.

I gritted my teeth and braced myself for the two on one handicap fight.

*Battle Skip*

Despite the numbers advantage and how relentless they were, I was able to hold my own against both of them.

"No...this is...not possible..." Gilbert panted.

"Why...WHY THE HELL CAN'T I WIN?!" Shirley yelled.

"Damn, she's firing on all cylinders." Rugter said. "Can't blame her after what happened."

"It's only natural. The Red Constellation did mean quite well to her." Cedric added. "That's enough you two, it's time to bring the aion into play."

"Heh, have fun with it, kid."

Gilbert and Shirley retreated and then the giant aion landed on the front deck before it became active.

'This isn't good...it feels more powerful than the last one I took down.'

Suddenly, I felt the presence of my friends and other allies showing up, which caused the other foes to show up on the ship and they had them trapped in a pincer situtation.

"Friends!" I exclaimed. "I'm sorry I can't help you all now, but this aion needs my whole attention."

"That's fine, Alex!" Rean said. "We'll fight our way forward!"

"Just hold on until we can get through!" Tio added.

I nodded and looked up at the aion, there was only one way for me to beat it...to go all out.

"To me...DIVINE ARMAMENT!"

Now I was ready...time for the aion to go down!

*Battle Skip*

I was able to hold out well against it, but I was exhuasted. Meanwhile, the rest of the group were now closer to me.

"Phew, looks like we made it to Alex." Estelle said.

"Yeah. But otherwise, I'd say we're at a stalemate here." Lloyd added.

"Alex, are you okay?" Rean asked as he helped me get up to my feet.

But I wasn't fine...something was going on in my body. That moment of weakness gave the aion to strike back and I took the brunt of the swing, pushing Rean back. Just then, another two aions appeared from the giant crimson ship.

"Argh!" I groaned in pain.

"Alex, no!" Rean exclaimed.

Now I was facing off against three aions at once.

"Oh, this is getting a little flashy." Rutger said.

"Oh, come on. This is just overkill." Lechter added.

Cedric laughed. "What magnificent power from all three of them. Each of them are even greater than the Empire's Divine Knights."

"What do you think, Alexander?" Campanella asked. "Have you had enough, or do you want more?"

"Grr..." I responded as my body got hotter. "huh!? Argh! AGH! ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!"

"Hm? What's going on with him?" Lloyd asked.

"It's his power, he's losing control!" Crow said.

Emma and Celine suddenly appeared behind me.

"What are you thinking, Alex?!" Celine exclaimed. "You're not supposed to be in that state for too long!"

"Please, Alex! Snap out of it!" Emma pleaded.

"Argh...huh? Emma?" I responded before I felt an aura that was cooling down my body. "Ngh...ugh..."

"Damn...I feel for him." Ash muttered.

"We all do." Kurt said.

I was then moved away from the battle and checked over by Emma and Celine.

Crow raised his arm. "Rean, looks like we're up."

"Yeah." Rean did the same. "Heed my call! Valimar!"

"Come! Ordine!"

But Cedric and Rutger called for thier Divine Knights as well.

"Well then." Cedric said. "Since we have this chance, how about we start the Rivalries right here and now?"

"Hey, slow down, little prince." Rutger added. "Doesn't count if we're not in a shrine."

The situation was now looking even worse. It would seem that despite how hard we tried, we were going to lose and everything we stood for was to be lost forever. I then somehow ended up dozing off, as I started to dream. The dream was just a vast void with that little flying demon, Reef, for company.

"My lord...what are you doing?" He asked weakly. "Are you just...going to give up?"

"Reef...hold on! Since when did I say I was gonna give up?" I responded.

"The moment you started to think about it. My lord, you cannot let the tale end here!"

"Then what else am I supposed to do?!"

A book then appeared beside him. "Here, my lord. Read page 420 on this book."

He opened it and I read a spell that his bat wing pointed to.

"If you are reading this part of the forbidden spell book, it would mean that you are considering the possibility that you are in a battle that is becoming unwinnable, and it is going wrong. It is natural for all spell casters to think of such a scenario. But this spell should help to counter such a fate. It is called 'Mystic Wave'. When this spell is called, not only will it cast a barrier and shield you from all physical and magical attacks, it will send them back to the ones who dare attack you. In addition, the energy inside the barrier will cool down your mana, so you can attack aggressively again."

Reef then closed the book.

"Mystic Wave?" I asked.

"Yes, my lord. Revelio took great dedication to consider all scenarios that should ever put him at a disadvantage." He replied. "Why not give the spell a try?"

"Well...I could, but I need to recover and..."

"Oh for goodness sake! You inherit Revelio's fragmented soul! Get back up! You've gotten stronger from worse battles than this! Just call for it, and it'll happen! Now wake up!"

I then opened my eyes in surprise, I could now see everyone again as I blinked.

'What the...he's right. I gave up far too easily there.'

Suddenly, the giant aion was about to strike again.

"Not this time..." I muttered as I slowly got up despite feeling hurt. "NGH! ARGH!"

"Alex?!" Emma asked in surprise. "Is he losing control again?"

"No, it's different this time." Celine replied. "I don't know how, but I can sense something...there's something inside that's guiding him."

"So this is what he has to go through?" Lloyd asked.

"Seeing all this...I can't help but feel for him." Duvalie said.

The aion struck, but I casted the spell just in time. "MYSTIC WAVE!"

A barried formed around me and it deflected the aion's attack, throwing it off balance. I then refocused my mana and got my main skills back. I then went all out in attacking every corner of the giant aion before it was completely destroyed. The other two aions then directed their attacks at me, but I was ready for them.

"Too slow!"

I then charged at the red flying aion, it tried to hit me fast, but it wasn't quick enough for my instant teleporting and zooming as I didn't let up my armament attacks before the red aion started breaking away as the peices fell through the clouds. The third aion teleported behind me.

"Hah! Saw that coming!"

I zoomed away from its attack, it then fired several missiles at me, but the barrier deflected all of them and they launched right back at the aion, damaging it heavily. It kept on doing the same thing and failing each time until it was too damaged to continue on.

"Hah...how do you like that, foes?!" I exclaimed. "Now do you see what a demon lord is capable of?!"

"Wow..." Estelle said in surprise.

"So much power from one person." Elie added.

"I guess I was starting to slip back into my old habits. But I hope you all understand now. This is what I have to deal with every day, even when the situation gets dire like this." I replied. "Whilst the war looms closer, so too does the world's end. Unless I do something about it! Even if I and everyone on my side ends up standing against the world, we will never surrender to the ones who wish to see this all end! Even if the flesh falls from my bones, I will still fight to the bitter end!"

"Hahahaha! Well said, young man. You should be proud of your powers." A distant voice spoke. "And so should the rest of you. Am I wrong, Graduates of Thors?"

I blinked. "Huh?!"

"Another airship is coming in close." Kurt said.

We saw on our left a pair of small ships and a camoflouged crimson ship arriving, it looked very smiliar.

"The Crimson Wings?!" Duvalie exclaimed.

"...no way..." Juna whispered.

I couldn't believe it, it was indeed The Courageous, but it looked different. As it zoomed by and shot down many of the red scout ships, six people jumped from it and landed on the Pantagruel. One of them was Patrick, the other was a female I hadn't seen before, Vita and Bleublanc showed up too.

"Where the hell did you guys come from?!" Ash asked.

"Hot damn. Talk about crashing a party." Crow said.

"Schera?!" Estelle called.

"That's right. I hope you haven't gotten into too much trouble without me." She replied. "Sorry for dropping in out of the blue. I imagine it must be confusing for those of you I haven't met. My name is Scherazard Havery. But some of you might know me better as the Liberlian Bracer Guild's Silver Streak!"

So that's Schera, she looks pretty strong if she knows the Bracers.

"But if I heard that voice right...does that mean..." I paused.

"How are you here?!" Cedric asked in shock. "You were aboard the Courageous when it exploded! I saw it with my own eyes!"

A familiar friend then approached us so we could see him clearly. "Eh, who can say? Maybe Aidios spared me just so I could come spoil your fun."

"Then it is you...Toval!" I exclaimed.

"Hey, it's been a while, Alex. Good to see you and everyone else hanging in there."

"But if you're alive, then..."

"Ah, what a delight it is to know my memory lingers on in so many minds. Please, open your ARCUS units, and let your imagination become reality."

I got mine out and I saw the man himself, despite having an eyepatch...Prince Olivert!

"You'll have to excuse my aestheic augmentation. Rest assured, before you sits the very same devilish rogue you've always known."

I then saw Bleublanc smile at us, I assumed that he must've saved them at the last minute. So Alberich's plan to get rid of them was actually a bust. Meaning that George is not a murderer, but I still class him as a would-be murderer, just like Cedric.

"Olivert...my brother...I can't believe you're alive." Speaking of Cedric. "But I regret to inform you. Operation Jormungandr is already underway! The same goes for that brazen Mille Mirage scheme! So tell me, Olivert! What could you possibly hope to accomplish with that overblown ship of yours at this point?!"

"Heehee, if I may hazard a guess, perhaps he's here to join Mille Mirage." Mariabell said.

"Alas no." Olivert replied from his ship. "With Musse, Cassius, and all the other presiding dignitaries involved, Mille Mirage is in as good a set of hands as can be. I...or rather, we have appeared before you today for one reason, and one reason only. To serve as the wings upon which deliverance to a third path is granted."

I wondered what he meant by that.

"Jormungandr and Mille Mirage. Two massive operations of unadvoidable consequence. Yet admist these titans is another force. Those unyelding in thier hope that the twilight will soon give way to the dawn. Rean, Alex, Lloyd and Estelle...and each of their companions that walk this path with them. Not to mention a multitude of others, all ready to lend aid to their cause. Across the continent, people of all walks of life are making the decision to follow thier hearts."

His words...they were giving me the kind of strength I had forgotten about for just one moment.

"Thus, so too shall we. So that our wings may help them soar. And soaring, high above the holds of Erebonia's curse, we will join together as one. To become the radiant rays of hope, piercing through the oppressive darkness of despair! To that end, I hearby name us...not the Crimson Wings of the civil war, nor the Winds of Freedom on the western front. But our third and greatest title, The Radiant Wings!"

"The Raidant Wings...I like that name." I whispered.

"Haha, finer words have never been spoken, O eternal rival of mine." Bleublanc said.

"Hoo boy!" Letcher sighed. "The dead keep creeping up one by one. We really screwed the pooch here, huh?"

"Then why don't we go ahead and make things right?" Cedric asked. "This little charade ends here. Members of the society, exterminate them all."

"Oh, you're really going there?" I responded. "Would you listen to yourself? Aren't you even glad Olivert is alive?"

"You wouldn't understand! We're ending this world, and creating a new order in its place! And an undertaking this great leaves me no room for weakness! Chancellor Osborne entrusted me with a mission and I swear, by my hand, I will carry it through!"

"That won't even matter once I become Revelio the Second! It doesn't matter which one of you awakeners is the last one standing. This world will be doomed with no chance of a rebirth, if I become Revelio himself and beat whoever becomes the Great One!"

"What?!"

"I believe that is quite enough from both of you!" A voice intervened.

"My, my, speak of the devil." Olivert responded.

A floating purple orb showed and it projected several screeens of the other foes, with Osborne in the middle.

"There you are, I was beginning to think you didn't wanna see me again." I smirked.

"I come to you today from the Imperial Capital. You'll have to excuse me for not attending in person." Obsorne said. "As for my fellow world leaders...my earnest greetings to you all. I see that the Special Support Section is here as well. I hope Governer General Rufus isn't causing you too much difficulties."

"Here and there, perhaps." Rufus said. "Though I would very much like to establish a better working relationship with them whenever we can."

"Oh, go pleasure yourself!" I yelled at him.

"Yeah, you tell him!" Tio agreed.

"Ah yes, I was wondering if I could speak to you." Rufus spoke. "We've been made aware of what you must do to save the world and your life. You have already made the first step, there is no turning back. But are you certain? Do you believe you can take every one of us down?"

"Damn right I do!" I clenched a fist. "But I'm not just going to become emotionless like the Gnomes are. I have agreed that I will only do so...if my friends fail to bring some of you back to your senses. Think of your sacrifice as a final resort, Rivalries or otherwise!"

"I see..."

"Then be our guest." Osborne said. "You and everyone else may flit around as much as you please. But know this, you have only six days before Operation Jormungandr makes its move."

"And as one of the authors behind this piece, allow me to issue a declaration. The order to commence Operation Jormungandr will be offically given at the stroke of noon on the first of September."

"That'll be four months until my eternal transformation by then." I said.

"Indeed." Alberich responded. "And then, the world will bear witness to the final battle with The Great One and Revelio the Second. Your defeat will mark the end result, the Great Twilight!"

"Yeah so, you're just reminding me of my time limit. After all, when I said I have take everyone of you down, I mean every one...right, McBurn?!"

"Hehe, so you knew." A screen with McBurn's face appeared. "Man, I love it when there's a time limit. Really gets the blood pumpin', you feel me?"

I sighed. "Yeah, you don't say?"

"But hey, I ain't the star here. Show yourselves too."

Then we saw screens of Lianne, then Irina and Schmidt, and then...Victor with a gold mask on.

'Crap, should've realized that as well.'

"Father?!" Laura asked in shock.

"You son of a..."

"Anyway, I haven't forgotten our duel, demon guy." McBurn said. "Once the Rivalries are done, we'll begin our greatest showdown. One that'll be sure to shake the world when we start."

"I haven't as well." I replied. "But I'm not relaxing, I'm preparing all the time until the day we can finally face off."

"Rean, Laura. I expect you to put forth your very best, when the time comes to put steel against steel." Victor said.

"Catch ya when the fun finally starts, we'll be waitin'." McBurn added.

They then disappared.

"All righty, guess we'd best head out ourselves." Rutger said. "Best of luck, Miss Maiden. If I see you again, it'll be between my crosshairs."

"Very well, I will await that moment with bated breath." Lianne replied. "Ines, Ennea. Return to me. I will require you at my side once more."

"Just what kind of farce do all of you take this for?!" Cedric asked. "We aren't finished here. Not by a long shot! Who do you think are you are, deserting your duty?!"

"That's quite enough, Your Highness." Rufus said. "The task you were given was a greeting. A show of formality and nothing further. Evidently, you have failed to understand that. I have to warn you against overstepping your bounds. Or must I remind you of your position as an Ironblood?"

"Now, now. Let us leave the matter at this." Osborne intervened. "Return to Heimdallr for now, Your Highness. There yet remains an important role you must play."

"Understood..." Cedric replied.

Just then, several of our foes began to leave.

"Looks like the party's over, what a shame." Campanella said.

"I do hate to cut our engagement short, but I do believe it's time we made our exit." Mariabell added.

"Understood." Sharon replied.

"See you around, guys." Shirley said. "Especially you! Next chance I get, I'll avenge daddy's fallen friend!"

I remained silent as the four of them teleported away. Gilbert and the advanced jeagers also retreated, along with George and Lechter. The screens then faded away, and when the enemy ships and its flagship flew away, the coast was finally clear. I had to sit down since it was all a lot to take in, and to recover.

Damn, that was a lot of stuff happening looking back on it now, lol.

Next time! The team travel to Luna Sanctuary where the hidden truth is finally revealed.
