Chapter Twenty-Seven
Stan's placeā¦
Stan nervously paced as he waited for Alan to come over for their talk about concerns that Alan has about the business.
'I hope he didn't find out about the deal I made when he was retired, since I don't know how to explain to him about what I was forced into.'
When Alan retired to take care of his wife, a man with an offer that now seemed way too good to be true approached Stan. The man, named Richard Lawson, said that he was looking for an architecture consultant to help him with issues with some of the buildings and the fee was small but generous.
Stan discovered about two months into the job that the reason he was brought on was "help" was needed to find places to store bodies of the man's enemies and he realized that he was in too deep to try to get out of it.
When he inquired about it to Lawson, the man told him that all he needs to know is they were bad people and it was nothing to worry about. He said all this while holding a nine iron he picked up when Stan first asked about it. Stan knew the message loud and clear and never asked about it ever again. Stan regretted over getting involved ever since and wished he could find a way out but knew that somehow Lawson would have him killed if he did talk.
It got even more complicated when Alan returned to consulting with him and, while it took some work, Stan was able to keep Alan unaware of what was going on for the past few years, though there were several times that he came close to telling Alan on what he was involved in. No matter what, he kept quiet, as he knew it would only make his partner and friend a possible accomplice and that would only have caused more issues. He also was aware that Don was an FBI Agent but he was never sure if Lawson had people in the FBI and if he would have had Don hurt or killed to send a message.
Stan was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard knocking on the door and heard Alan's voice asking if he was there.
"Coming Alan." He said as he nervously went to open the door
'Well, might as well see what Alan wants to know.'
