Christmas Ceremony

Jay slammed his fist against Doug's chest, the latter coughing in response. "Calm down."

"Yeah. You look fine." Carlos adjusted the tie around Doug's neck. "Stop messing with his clothes," he scolded Jay.

"Why'd I decide to wear blue again?" he sat on a nearby chair. Carlos, ever quick on his feet, poked his back to have him sit straight. "I was so sure, now I'm not."

"Is this about the clothes? Or about…"

He shook his head. "Evie? No, never. But blue." His face twisted in discontent. His current three-piece midnight blue suit vaguely reminded him of his band outfit back in Auradon Prep.

"Chill."

Doug frowned at Jay. Easy for you to say, he thought, eyeing Carlos and Jay's traditionally black suits.

Ben burst through the door, gaze sweeping over the three occupants of the room and smiling when he saw his best friend gripping the sides of his chair. His crown was absent today, and he wore a similar suit to Carlos and Jay giving the illusion he was a regular Auradonian. "It's time."

"Is she…" he swallowed the lump in his throat.

Ben waved him off. "She's doing better than you are, man."

Doug, after walking down the aisle with his parents, willed his feet to stay still. Was it normal for him to have cold feet when he was the one who suggested they do this? Since her fairytale ideas of marriage had been shattered after Prince Chad humiliated her, she originally wanted an informal wedding in their cottage. Doug told her getting married in a cathedral, with no expense spared, was something he wanted to do for her.

She didn't have to agree with me, he argued with himself.

Ben, who served as his Best Man, stood right next to him and clapped his shoulder.

Jay and Lonnie walked next, followed by Carlos and Jane…

What if she wasn't there? What if she didn't show up at all? What if she ran away after Ben visited her? Doug's feet shook. Calm down. Calm down.

Mal took her place across from Ben and everyone in the cathedral stood.

Calm do… Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Snoozy… Snoozy?

At the end of the aisle stood Evie, her arm linked to Dizzy's hand as the bride held a bouquet of white roses.

He sucked in a deep breath, forcibly reminding himself to breathe. His eyes tracked the ensemble she wore. She didn't have gloves on, which made her emerald and sapphire engagement ring shine against the bouquet in her hands.

Her dress was made of lace and tulle, the lace cinching her at the waist with sleeves that stopped ¾ of the way before the tulle dropped into a full-length skirt. She had a tiara on her brilliantly blue hair topped off with a dramatically large and long veil.

If her ensemble wasn't enough to take his breath away, it was the color. In Auradon, brides typically wore white. Even Mal, whose wedding dress had been mostly purple that caused quite the stir, had a full white skirt.

But Evie… No. Evie had to be the most dramatic bride Auradon has ever seen. She and Dizzy started their walk down the aisle and he grinned at her.

The only thing white about her ensemble was the bouquet in her hands. The rest, from the tiara and veil in her hair to her dress, to the shoes that peeked out when her skirt shifted, were a shade of emerald green.

It was a bold choice, especially since she decided to let her hair be as bright blue as it can be, not even bothering to hide her roots. Evie had to be his dramatic bride.

Dizzy hugged him when they reached the end of the aisle, taking Evie's bouquet with her. He took her hand and kissed it.

With the white bouquet gone, he was certain onlookers might wonder if this was truly a wedding with her all emerald ensemble.

"Do you like it?" she whispered.

He gulped and nodded, not trusting his voice.

Uma, their chosen officiant, stepped up to the podium and cleared her throat. She kept the ceremony short. No one from the Isle appreciated long, boring events.

After the couple exchanged vows and rings, Uma bent her head low, whispering to Evie, "Are you going to run down the aisle with that?" motioning to her veil, the end of which extended to approximately three feet from the bottom of her dress.

"I've run in worse."

With the assurance, Uma clapped her hands together to get the attention of the audience. "With the power vested in me…" she blinked, then eyed the couple. "Ah, what the heck. You know what to do."

Evie wrapped her arms around Doug's neck.
