"Kenzie, what's wrong?" Killian asked her, his eyes full of concern.
"Nothing, " she muttered, glancing off into the distance. If she told him, she knew that he wouldn't believe her, just like no one ever did. Just how they always insisted that she was just getting worried for nothing. That her mind was making up scenarios, from overthinking but it wasn't. Her mother really was in danger.
"You're lying, " Hook stated. "There clearly is something wrong, " he said.
Kenzie sighed and turned to face him. Telling him wouldn't matter anyway unless he thought she was crazy but she figured it was just best to tell him. "Fine, my mom's in danger." She revealed.
"Really?" He questioned. "How do you know?"
"This might seem crazy," started Kenzie, trying to choose her next words carefully to come off less strange. "This might seem crazy and I don't expect you to believe me, no one ever does, but I always know when something bad is about to happen to someone. Mainly to those I know. I just get this feeling something is off and I just know, " she explained slowly.
Then to her astonishment and relieve, he said, "I believe you."
"Thanks," Kenzie found herself saying and after added, "anyway, I need to hurry back home. I don't know when it's going to happen but it will be soon, but what if I don't make it?" She wondered out loud and an idea popped into her head.
"Wait, what if you take me?" She questioned, looking at him with pleading eyes. " It might be quicker since we wouldn't have to worry about traffic and when I got brought here after you attacked Gold we got back pretty quick, " she pointed out.
"It would be a lot quicker, " Hook said.
"Then you can take me?" She asked.
"I can, but I don't see what I'll get out of it," he replied, even though he didn't really mind taking her. It's not like he had anything better to do. He still hadn't thought of another way to get his revenge.
"Take me, please. I'll even make a deal with you if you want. I'll do anything. I don't care. I just want to help my mom, " she begged.
"Fine, I'll take you," he agreed.
"Thank you, " Kenzie said.
"Did you mean what you said? Would you really do anything?" He wonders, walking off to get his ship ready to set sail.
"Well in reason yes. Why?" Kenzie asked.
"No reason," he answered.
As they travelled to New York City, Kenzie paced the ship thinking about her mother and the feeling she just had. The hook was at the wheel when he glanced over at her with narrow eyes, all that pacing was getting on his nerves but he didn't say anything. She had every right to be on edge and he didn't grudge her of it. He knew that she most loves her mom dearly, just as he had— did, but she was long since dead, now.
Even though that was the case he wasn't sure why he had agreed to help her, it's not like it was his business, and he still hated her for distracting him from his revenge. But that was such a strong word, so maybe there was a better word. He didn't hate her not like Rumplestiltskin. In fact, though he still didn't want to admit it, he liked her for whatever reason.
Anyway, she had helped him before so it was only right to help her now. He was a man, despite being a pirate, who believed in fairness and good form. Truly though, he kind of hated seeing her so worried.
Once, finally, in New York, they had left the ship when Kenzie turned to him to thank him. "Thanks again. I can go get a taxi to take me the rest of the way, " she said.
"I'll come with you, " he offered.
"No it's ok, you don't have to, I'll be fine, " Kenzie told him.
"I wasn't offering, " He stated
"I can look after myself," Kenzie said.
"I don't doubt you can, but if she really is danger something might happen to you too, " Hook insisted.
"Why do you even care if something happens to me?" she wondered. Does he actually like me? So he wasn't just flirting with me? She thought.
"Do we really have time to be discussing this?" he asked her.
"Not really," she acknowledged but she wanted to know if he did like and care about her, that she wasn't just imagining it. "But there must be a reason, why you would even bother helping me otherwise, " she added.
"I just think its better if there is two of us. We will stand a better chance that way, " he said.
Her heartfelt as if it had sunk a little, but she didn't have time to dwell on her heartache and it's not like she had expected him to feel the same way back. "That is true," she agreed.
"So are we just going to stand here chatting or are we going to go help your mother?" He wondered.
"Right, let's go," she responded and started to walk. Hook followed.
After several tries, they managed to flag down a taxi. When the taxi pulled up outside, Kenzie threw the fare money into Killian's lap and swung open the car door and ran towards the house. Killian paid the driver and went after her.
When he got to the house, Kenzie was already inside searching for her mom. A shriek echoed against the walls as he stepped in. His slow steps turned into a run towards the sound, it leads him to the kitchen where Kenzie stood looking down with watery eyes, and hands pressed against her mouth at women, with greying blonde hair. She appeared to be in her fifties and she wasn't moving. There was also blood covering her shirt on the side of her stomach.
Hook walked over to her and knelt down beside her to check her breathing and pulse. She was breathing but her pulse was rather slow. "She's still alive," Killian said.
With shaky hands, Kenzie lowered her hands and reached into her bag for her phone. Then dialled 911. "Yeah, yeah. An ambulance. We need an ambulance," she spoke, her voice trembling through rapid breaths when the emergency dispatcher answered the call.
