The Doctor had made a few last minute moves before choosing where to be abducted. Her plan was simple, with only the annihilation of herself or all existence to measure. She aimed to make the gamble so that only the former be at risk. For this to happen, backup was required.

Luckily, the Timelord's latest adventures put her in touch with some… impressive allies.

It paid to live in a phonebooth when quick calls were needed. Picking seven of the ones eager, needing to convince one who shivered throughout the explanation, and finally her special team simply needed the command.

One quick finger snap brought down all of Hell.

The Waverider de-cloaked and proceeded to bombard the enemy ships with merciless ease alongside the Millennium Falcon. Most the crews of each stayed aboard, where the select warriors went to work below. The Doctor had placed a specialized tracking device on her body, it would probably itch for months but worth it, as the Dark One had tagged key spots to make a mess in.

Sara, Ray, Constantine, Norah and Charlie handled the demonic armory. Spells bombarded everywhere as the Captain pulverized everything she came across. Ray shrunk and punted several demon generals. Charlie had fun mimicking the enemy, tricking them into hitting each other and also sabotaging weapons before they could be properly used against anyone. John Constantine never missed an opportunity to kick demons where the sun didn't shine and with a Fairy Godmother on their side, everything was a simple matter of Bibbity, Bobbity, ka BOOm.

The armies of the damned decided to charge through the portals and cause as much devastation as possible in their Leader's name. Suddenly the operation unit suffered confusion as a small green plumber's vacuum spun the cultists about the room and had them smacking into walls while he howled more from sheer panic than righteous fury. The demonic armada turned to seek retribution on the Plumber, only to face a lone woman with a blazing gold saber.

"When you're ready." Rey said, allowing them the first strike before she charged into the fray.

The Dark One watched, his expression-less metal form fidgeted with absolute panic as random strangers managed to disrupt so much of what had been built. When rage became easier to focus, all of it was centered on the blonde Time Lord who looked like she would be eager to watch the display with some snacks.

"What?" she said innocently with a shrug. "Your whole rant from before was all about how heroes always come along to knock down the pins you set up. Can't really blame for deciding to get some bac—"

A metal hand grasped the Doctor by her throat and pressed her against the far way. Heat around the eyes melted as the furious scarlet gaze of the monster came through. She grunted from the pressure but didn't break her calm.

All that you have done, is bring the first of many victims to suffer my wrath

Or have you not considered, from my 'rant', that space and time do limit my own consciousness, I will handle them MYSELF

The Timelord's concern flickered through as she sensed the demonic aura spread out from the main dark angel, seeking out her troublemakers.

Sarah and the gang were having a blast. Cracking demon skulls was surprisingly easy and Ray knew enough about chemistry to quickly sabotage the bioweapons so no one would ever suffer their malice. It was smart to give Mick the ship with Behrad, fire in the chem lab never worked out well, even though the pyromaniac would probably be pouting for weeks about how he never got light The Devil on fire. Granted, the Big Bad was nowhe—

CONSTANTINE

One of the downed bots surged to life as unholy flames leaked out of its cracked frame. The crusty wizard of London's eyes opened wide with dread. Sara really hated jinxing things.

"Oh Bollox…"

YOU DARE TO PEE ON MY PORCH ONCE AGAIN, HELLBLAZER

The usually self-proclaimed nasty piece of work could only sheepishly grimace as the floor cracked open while black flames surfaced with vicious intent. Everyone quickly bolted over to the nearby table. Charlie picked up a random chunk of debris and bonked the embodiment of evil with it before joining everyone.

"Well, that's definitely off me bucket list," the Shapeshifter scurried back with the others as the flames ate through their cover. "Not that I was aiming to need it wrapped up today!"

"U-Um, Captain," Ray murmured as his shrink blasts dissipated before even touching the Dark One's cruel aura. "I think we need some help."

"You got it, Sweetie." Norah quickly kissed her beloved on the cheek before she stood up with her wand at the ready. Ray tried to rush to join her but was pulled back by the others. A blue flourish, the flames vanished, leaving the metal menace that appeared grow several feet as It towered over them. Norah widened her stance and raised her wand.

A Fairy Godmother, ARE THESE THE BEST THE TIMELORD OFFERS

"You will not hurt another soul," Norah said. "My family was ruined in your shadow. No one else will know that pain."

They will, ONCE I'VE ENDED YOUR LIVES

"Bring it," the Fairy Godmother's light radiated from her entire being. "If you can."

Blazing demons made of dark flames soared down from above. Several were knocked away or reduced to panicked moths, but some nearly took off Norah's head. The Hellblazer's enchantments arrived with his renewed tenacity, extinguishing the foes as he shot several hexes into one of the giant eyes which it burst with a howl of agony as he smirked. Every other Legend picked up whatever wasn't broken and started to fire upon the massive foe. Sara almost wished Mick bought the flamethrower…

A Jedi is an expression of the Force. Channeling and letting it guide the user to face whatever threat surfaces. Rey focused, keeping against the deadly barrage of enemy fire as she pushed many shooters into walls while slicing through charging foes. She took comfort in knowing the green Plumbers screams despite the chaotic clanging above implied he still lived. Their opposition thinned, Rey pressed forward to hopefully help the others.

One of the mechanical angels surged to life despite a blaster bolt between the eyes. Darkness erupted in her mind, this was intense enough to force her to one knee. Training was the only thing that saved Rey from decapitation. A burning blade several feet long came swinging down. Rolling aside as blade flames erupted from the strike point, the chaotic powered angel turned to face her.

Child of LIGHT

It hissed the word like a curse. They raised their weapons, while the Entities' had greater reach Rey would not surrender. The weapon connected, the Jedi staggered backwards while her hands ached. Whatever strength this thing wielded, it nearly tore off her arms just to block.

Interesting, your will influences the matter around you

A fascinating PALOUR TRICK

It raised a metal and the whole universe became small, breakable. A crushing concussive wave tore at the walls, floor, and shattered the bones in Rey's right hand in her attempt to block it. Screaming, tumbling into a nearby wall, the Jedi struggled to catch her breathe and stand.

The Entity then looked up at the fidgeting green form that whimpered from the control console above. It chuckled as Dark Flames focused along Its blade, readying to be launched. Absolute oblivion rocketed off the wicked steel, but was quickly struck down as Rey flipped through the air and as the flames away. She landed a few feet before her opponent, breathing hard one hand hanging limp while the other went on guard with the saber.

You should have tried to strike my back while I killed your weak little friend

"A Jedi does not use sneak attacks," Rey willed the Force to heal, breathing through the pain as she then grasped her saber with both hands. "We face a threat head on. And I am your opponent, so don't turn away to hurt others, coward."

The Entity took several steps back, eyes blazing with grim fury.

Well then, face death bravely, my Little Foe

Rey charged, dodging and slicing at the enemy while Luigi did his best to trash the system. The plumber hoped wherever the Doctor was, that they had something to make sure this chaos could be stopped.

The Time Lord watched The Dark One. Despite being metal, she knew how to recognize frustration. No matter those enemies who ripped away or stifled emotion got, certain twitches could always be noticed. Their partial link via being choked enabled her to see Rey and the Legends doing their best to face the source of evil with bravery equal to none. When the hand released her, she massaged her throat and observed Its struggle. Every small twitch, simmering flame, and the way it managed to glower at her despite an emotionless face proved they had at least pushed the tide. Problem was, these kinds of waves could push back again and again until their blockage and the universe crumbled.

Her comrades bled.

The Doctor intended to make sure their pain was worth it.

"I think we should continue our little chat."

The Entity was in front of her without giving her a chance to blink.

What 'chat'?

"The one I failed to have with you the first time we met. When I felt too important and selfish to listen. My sort-of girlfriend was at risk, not the best state of mind to be in. But, being around for 1,000 years taught me the value in giving everyone a chance."

The Entity laughed, a cold, wicked screech of sound that boomed in the small space. Bones rattled and mind felt roughly on the verge of turning to pudding, but the Doctor stood her ground.

You would show mercy to the DEVIL

"I just wonder if the Devil is done being the punchline to good vs evil."

The Dark One leaned over, the Doctor's indifference reflected at both of them.

Explain…

"Sorry, words would be nice, but lives are on the line, so let's just make this quick."

The Time Lord grasped the Devil by Its metal horns and banged their heads together. Both screamed, partly because headbutting metals hurts, but then the deeper connection occurred.

Two minds collided, one older than existence, the other infamous for hopping through so many versions of it, and yet the former's attempt to simply consume the woman's soul were… stopped.

An avalanche of stories struck. So many of them already known. Two brothers from Kansas being the being the bane of Gods and Devils alike. The Time Lord's own battles with beings who reflected the Dark One's action. Her little collection of rebels have all faced their equivalent versions of great evils. And further still, tales and champions from every part of existence, some victorious, some failures, many dying honorably to battle HIM in some form. Always fighting, never truly doing more, and the darkness always more his home than anywhere else. Pain, failure, and being marked as wicked eternally for simply… embracing a role.

Power had been his ambition, a means of breaking free but it was purely a trap… to continue the torturous play. There was no move done that wouldn't be part of the same old game. No matter how loud he became, it just made him that much easier to step on…

As The Dark One tumbled through the stories, something bothered him enough to break through his increasingly clear delusion of power.

The Doctor

The Entity expected to hit a barrier, a limit, once he found memories from the 'first', but then more came and with it a greater scale than anything known.

Are… you… Older…

The Time Lord didn't fully grasp the words but something about the deeper connection hit at… a mystery she would need to find answers for. All that mattered was in Its distracted state, the champions were starting to push through.

Norah's magic managed to be rather impressive. A few sparkling ponies kicking at the Devil's shins was quite the sight. Some deeper malfunction even made them adventurous enough get in on the action directly. The roof exploded, the Waverider's door opened and Mick laughed as he blasted the shocked Overlord of Darkness right in his eye with the flamethrower. Sara stabbed, Constantine sent the magical equivalent of a haymaker to the Devil's skull, Ray joined his beloved in blasted evil with one hand… and holding each other's with the opposite one, Charlie bonked an even bigger chunk of debris on the demon's head as the structure started to crumble.

Behrad wondered if he should have mentioned that he still hadn't learned to technically… fly the ship, but then a random British Brunette in a tight outfit stepped in and took over. He recognized the voice, but the image would stay with him for a while. Gideon paid him no mind, simply smiling as she told him.

"The Doctor is winning."

Rey felt the darkness dimming. A few burns graced her flesh, small drips of blood, but it became easier to calmly flow around the attacks and seek to end it. The Entity eventually lost Its sword arm, staggering as It crumbled. But the aura suddenly surged as if combining all Its core energy to spread like a virus to whatever worlds were open.

The Dark One suddenly paused, realizing It would only continue the pain.

Then a vacuum started humming.

All Its essence squirmed and howled, being banged around as a green Plumber held on for dear life. As two tumbled, it was clear which weakened and soon the Devil's aura slipped into a random container.

A radio attached to the device rang, Professor E. Gadd's voice coming through.

Wowzers, Luigi, what'd you find? The spook-o-meter is going wild! How does five coins sound for the new catch?

Everything crumbled. The Tardis stepped in to pull the Jedi and Plumber away while the Legends relied on their own transport. Only the Time Lord and the now dismantled Devil faced each other.

"Not exactly sure what you saw in there, really, but I do hope it made things a bit clearer. You lost, and will always lose when playing this game. It's the only way there is a game. Because you still think this is the end of your story."

The Time Lord knelt down, touching the metal face of a broken angel, eyes with sympathy. Hoping that no more needed to be dragged down in cruelty for this twisted game, but that depended on the one key player.

"The end is not the end," the Doctor said as she stood up, watching the Entity crumble away back to the abyss. "Think on that, for everyone's sake and especially yours."

The Time Lord then walked back to her Tardis as it appeared. She hoped this time things would be different. That even the Devil could learn to do better.

Some part of the Dark One did.

Out of all the echoes in space and time, one had felt the doubt and bitterness of the cruel role given. And instead of lashing out… The Devil wondered what could be done instead. That demanded leaving what was known.

But not as an invading force.

No.
