When Raf awoke, he heard the creaking of the reinforced dinosaur gate opening. Quickly on alert after the Carno incident, he immediately sat up from his sleeping bag to prepare for whatever might have invaded their little houseboat.
He was surprised when a warm tongue licked his cheek.
In the gateway stood the Ankylosaur they had been taming the night before. Or earlier that night considering the sun had barely risen yet. Chuckling, he patted the bony head as he climbed out of his sleeping bag, waking Miko and Jack in the process.
"You're a gentle guy, aren't you?" Raf laughed as he pulled out some more berries to feed the dinosaur, who eagerly munched on the Azulberries in his hand.
"I see our newest member is making himself comfortable," Jack observed. He had prepared earlier for when it got up, and walking up to the Anky, he inserted the saddle he made into its inventory as it fit snugly on the spiky armored hide.
"There we go. Now he just needs a name and he'll be all set. Any suggestions you two?" Jack figured they should get to name this one since he named Roxanne and Rockefeller already.
Miko and Raf pondered names over in their heads, but Raf was the one who got his idea out first. "How about Hank? It's simple, and then he'd be Hank the Ank."
Miko smiled. "You know, I like that. Hank the Ank it is." Jack nodded in agreement as well.
Happy his name was chosen, Raf brought up his implant and selected the naming option. Typing in the name, he grinned as Hank did a little dance on the boat, causing it to rock a slight bit. The Raptors vocalized their dismay at the new arrival, worried that he would capsize the wooden floater they stood on.
"Now let's see about those stats," Jack said as he opened the stat menu for the dinosaur. He was surprised at one stat in particular. "320% melee? Man, if I remember right Arcee had right around 340%. Not bad at all."
Miko suddenly remembered the primary use for the Ankys according to the dossier. Jumping onto Hank, she told the guys to follow her to the metal nodes at the top of the island. Realizing what she was getting at, the guys brought the Raptors and the Ptera with them in order to help the incoming load.
When she came upon her first metal rock, Miko positioned Hank right up next to it. "Alright bud, do your thing!" she instructed.
Moving her foot on the saddle, she commanded the Anky to swing, and swing it did. The rich metal rock cracked straight down the middle as some chunks went flying. Another swing later, and the rock completely shattered from the force of the dinosaur's clubbed tail.
"Nice! Now how much did you get?" Opening the inventory, Miko's eyes went wide as she stared at the 235 metal that now sat in his storage, along with no small amount of stone.
"Woohoo! Hank, you're one heck of an investment," Miko cheered as she rubbed the top of the Anky's head. As Jack and Raf arrived, they too were shocked at the amount of metal Hank gathered from one rock.
"That'd take either of us at least 2-3 rocks to get with these rich nodes," Jack said, impressed with the performance.
"He isn't done either. I'm going to go hit the other metal rocks. You two and the other dinos keep moving it back and forth from here to the raft."
The two boys nodded as they took as much stone and metal as they and the dinosaurs could muster before lugging it back towards the ship to be smelted and used.
Meanwhile, Miko and Hank proceeded to smack each metal node around the island all the way until noon, when they had emptied the island of its metal rocks for the moment, as well as some normal rocks for flint and some plants for narcoberries. She had even found the Hesperonis dossier when she was getting some plants, boosting everyone on the team's xp gain.
"Good first impression, dude," Miko said to the armored dino before starting to move him back towards the raft.
When she arrived, she saw the Raptors and Razor Wing parked outside as she heard a crackling fire. Walking into the stone house part, she could see her friends were hard at work as they toiled with the various crafting stations, both wearing what looked like ghillie clothes.
"Whew, that's a lot of metal," she stated, looking at the nearly 2000 metal that was now smelting in the forge, creating charcoal and ingots for them to use.
"Yeah, Hank really got to work," Raf said as he stood up from the now 3 mortar and pestles that lined the ground. He had sorted each of them for narcotic, sparkpowder/gunpowder, and cementing paste (when they got more chitin) respectively.
"Yup, not to mention we got some of our own harvesting done in between carrying metal," Jack said as he motioned towards the extra storage boxes that lined the walls. "You know you missed out on a blue drop? Me and Raf got a nice ghillie chestpiece and gloves. It's surprisingly good at keeping you cool."
"Let me see," she requested.
Tossing the chestpiece to her, she put it on for herself as it conformed to her size. True to Jack's word, she felt a much needed coolness wash over her torso. "I can get used to this," she said, having stood in the noon sun near the end of her metal run.
Giving the shirt back to Jack, Miko started to round up the dinosaurs and guiding them back into the raft pen. Jumping into the water, she saw her Ichthy friend spy hopping next to the make shift box they made him.
"I think I got a name for you," she finally said. Using her implant, she typed in the word Mizu, the Japanese word for water. Simple yet fitting for the underwater torpedo that he was. Tossing a fish meat piece at him, she whistled him into the box as she turned to her friends.
"Ready to go," she announced.
Confirming their readiness, Raf unfurled the sails as Jack got on the rudder, allowing them to catch the wind as it was blowing and giving them speed.
"This place is nice. We should come back to it sometime. Maybe make that bay our dock once we kick all the hostile Megalodons out," Jack recommended.
"Yeah, that'd be nice," Miko replied as she watched the island recede into the distance.
Before the team made their way to further explore the coasts of the large island, they made a quick stop at the house to drop off Hank with Spitfire, the Pteras, and Roxanne, as well as leave Mizu near their stretch of coast. The two Anky's got along swimmingly as Roxanne seemed to be lifted out of her funk, going straight to cuddling with each other. The team smiled, happy Roxanne had found a new mate, before setting back out to sea before the wind changed.
As the team passed the Herbivore Island and sailed towards the east end of the island, a nagging feeling started pulling at Miko's mind. She put a hand to her head as she heard raspy whispers.
"Massive. Strong. Immune. Brute. "
Shaking her head, the whispering only got stronger as they continued heading further east, peaking as they rounded the eastern end of the island.
"You guys hear that whispering?" Miko asked her friends while she kept on high alert.
The boys gave looks of confusion. "What whispering?" Raf questioned.
"The whispering that started since we went around the eastern end of the island? It keeps saying massive, strong, and brute. I wish it'd shut up so I can actually hear myself talk."
Jack looked at the Asian girl with worry. "Miko, are you sure you just don't have some sort of sea sickness? Me and Raf haven't heard a thing."
Miko gave a puzzled look to the two before she perked her head up in a certain direction on the land.
"Stop right here," she requested.
Complying, Jack sailed into a bay before he stopped the boat and furled the sail as they hopped down with the Raptors and Razor Wing. Inspecting the beach where they landed, it wasn't long before Miko's voices led her to their source and they immediately ceased.
"Over here! The voices stopped!" she shouted, signaling her friends to the discovery. As they hurried over, they found themselves looking into the dark mouth of a cave. From outside, they could see stalagmites of crystal hanging from the ceiling.
"Soooo those voices in your head wanted us to mine crystal? I'm alright with that," Jack said simply as he proceeded inside. However, as he started heading deeper into the cave, he immediately started sweating.
"Yeesh! It is HOT!" he relayed atop Arcee. He began working on chopping up the crystal as the rest of the team warily stepped inside, an ominous feeling hanging over them.
As Team Prime finished gathering and packing the crystal, curiosity started to bloom in the 3 humans. Sensing a feeling of danger, the trio pulled out their pistols except Jack, who held the longneck rifle on his back. However, a dangerous animal wasn't what turned them back.
"Is that lava?" Raf rhetorically asked as he noted the flowing liquid down the right pathway. He had assumed the orange light was just an effect of the crystals, but now he realized he was sorely mistaken.
"Nope, no way, nada. We need to leave. Miko, whatever it is that you sensed down here, we're not prepared to go looking for it. Let's go," Jack ordered. As much as he wanted to say they were never coming back, the strange feeling in the air led him to believe this place would be important in figuring out the mysteries of this island.
"Come on Jack, what's the worst that some lava can do? It's not like it can be everywhere," Miko tried to argue.
"Worst case scenario is Arcee gets melted into scrap metal, and the rest of us get the extra crispy treatment. Besides, we'll come back once we have more ghillie. I'm sweating like Coach Gardner on the afternoon track."
Miko wanted to pout, but this time she could see Jack's point. She herself looked like she could fill a waterskin on sweat alone.
"Alright..." she submitted.
Before they left though, she used one of the magic maps Jack had fashioned from notes and given to each of them. She only just noticed how much of the island they had covered from the auto filling map, filling up half the south coast and all of Herbivore Island as well as a section of the swamp and the center of the Redwoods. Still, much was left to be explored, specifically the northern most section.
Seeing where her blue arrow icon was, she squeezed a mejoberry, allowing its purple juice to stain her fingers momentarily. She plucked a feather from Knockout's arms, who barked in protest, as she dipped the end of it in the mejo juice and stained the spot with a little purple dot.
"Now I won't forget where to go," she said to herself.
"Miko! Come on!" shouted Jack from the entrance.
"Coming!" she called back, tucking the map back into her implant.
Making their way back to the boat, the team was greeted by Mr. Cuddles chomping on a piece of fish meat in the trough they had installed while at the house.
"Come on Mr. Cuddles, up you go," Raf said as he put his sleeve out for him. The otter bounded up his arm and onto his neck, insulating him from heat and cold. The little mammal had stowed away during their second stop at the house, but the humans were grateful for the company.
Moments later after putting the crystal at the smithy, the team were back out to sea. Jack did most of the navigating as Miko and Raf went to the workshop to craft and build their expanded resources.
Team Prime saw many sights as they sailed towards the northern end of the island. At first, it was just a cliff bordering the beach for what seemed like miles, before it gave way to a forest of familiar mangrove trees. Seeing the Kaprosuchus and other swampy nightmares swarming the swampy beach, they picked up the speed and gave the area a wide berth.
As they passed near the 50 latitude section of sea, Jack felt a mysterious set of whispers pulling at his mind too. Asking Miko to take over the driving, he hobbled over to the workshop and sat down in a chair.
"Cunning. Pack. Hunter."
"Primus, do these voices ever shut up?" Jack complained as they seemed to strengthen, and then slowly fade as they passed over a certain stretch of ocean.
"Ok. Deep breaths. We're alright," Jack said to himself.
Miko walked into the workshop. "Now do you believe me?" she asked.
"Alright you win. At least if I'm crazy, then so are you though," he smirked. "Let's just hurry up and leave this area."
Raf had taken control of the ship while the older teens tended to Jack's whispering issues. Once the voices had receded, the two of them found they had sailed into an entirely new section of the island. The mountain on the right was the most striking feature. Even from their position at sea, they could see Argentavis circling the peak.
"Guys, there's another island!" Raf beckoned as he pointed in the distance. Just as he pointed though, the whispers began to plague his mind as well.
"Devourer. Clever. Skylord."
"And there goes my crazy set of whispers," he grumbled, with Jack and Miko offering comfort to the no doubt nervous boy.
"Thanks guys. I think if we dock at that island we can find the cave. Then it should go away."
The raft steered the team towards the island in the distance, where they could already see Argies gathering to feast.
"Something tells me this island isn't gonna be as hospitable as the other one," Jack warned, but they continued on anyways.
The Megalodons were still present, but they could just barely make out the shape of a pack of them fighting something at the bottom of the ocean. Something big...
While the Megalodons were distracted, the raft trudged along the surface of the water all the way to the faraway island, pulling up along a set of ruins bridging the main island with a smaller one. Once they were close to shore, Raf went to open the gate and explore...
...and immediately closed it once he saw the 3 strong Raptor pack and Sabertooth couple battling a Carno a few meters away.
"Uhhh we have a problem," Raf stated as he leaned against the dinosaur gate. Spyglassing the island, Miko and Jack saw the chaotic scene as well.
"If the last island was filled with herbivores, how much you want to bet this one is filled with nothing but carnivores?" a nervous Jack proposed.
Raf felt the voices getting louder, the word 'Devourer' in particular taking precedence among the whispers.
"I think we need to go down," Raf said.
Jack looked at him incredulously. "Are you crazy? With death squadron running around out there? We'd get eviscerated trying to fight them all."
Raf shook his head. "We don't need to fight them all. We just have to restrain a few and take out the weakest ones." A smirk danced across his face. "And I'm sure Knockout and Arcee wouldn't mind some more company."
Picking up what the youngest of them was putting down, Jack grabbed the longneck rifle off his back as he checked to find the weakest link among the pack hunters. Miko and Raf also loaded up their revolvers as well as their crossbows to tranq. All good them had bolas at the ready.
Jack was the first to descend off the boat, hopping on Arcee and swimming towards the stone ruins. Raf and Miko followed suit.
Once Jack reached the ruins, he hopped off Arcee and lined up his shot, having identified the weakest Raptor was the level 35. On a nearby rock, he saw Raf and Razor Wing doing the same, with Miko and Knockout beside him. Once the 3 Raptors and the Sabertooths had finished off the Carno, they would make their move.
It all happened at once. The moment the packs killed the Carno, Team Prime sprung the ambush. Jack's eagle eye struck true as the rifle fired its deadly projectile at the creature's braincase. At the same time, two revolver shots rang through the air, both streaking towards the same target.
The weakest Raptor didn't stand a chance as 3 headshots collided with its small skull, not nearly thick enough to stop the bullets. The brown beast fell to the ground, not even perceiving its end as the body went limp.
The two packmates, levels 85 and 130 respectively, screeched at their attackers as they charged, murderous intent in their eyes.
"Bolas ready!" shouted Jack as he whipped it above his head, aiming for the 85. Throwing his bola, he managed to net it in the legs just as the clawed feet stepped on the stone floor. Quickly, he started shooting the animal in the face as Miko followed suit with the 130. Though they struggled greatly, they couldn't escape the bolas' hold on them as they both passed out.
"Alright. One pack down. One to go. Where's the Sabertoo-" Jack began before he found himself on the ground.
Miko shrieked at the black feline that had pounced on Jack as it dug its oversized canines into his shoulder blade.
"AGHHH!" he yelled out as he tried to get up from being pinned. The Smilodon kept its front paws firmly pressed on his back until Arcee gave it a fierce nip, growling and barking at her alpha's attackers.
Frightened at the unknown whereabouts of the Sabertooth's mate, she felt a gust of wind behind her as she turned, seeing that Razor Wing had just barely saved her head from becoming the female Saber's chew toy. The Pteranodon had done a twist in the air, accelerating its speed quick enough to intercept the pouncing prehistoric cat. As she stumbled back onto her feet, the big cat found its feet bound by the same wooden contraption the small scalies had been caught by. Whipping her head to the right, she snarled at the adolescent ape thing that had ensnared her as he readied a strange green stick launcher.
"I got this one. Help Jack and Arcee!" Raf reassured Miko.
Glancing back to where the other Saber was battling her friend, she heard sounds of a struggle before raising her eyebrow.
"I don't think he's gonna need it, Raf."
Where Jack was just on the ground a moment ago being bitten by the male feline, now both of the Raptors had pounced upon the Saber's flank as Jack emptied shots into its head.
"Keep it pinned guys, we're not killing this one!" he relayed to his little pack. Somehow, the animals understood the commands of their alpha, and so firmly pressed their foot on the body without digging their deadly sickle claws in.
As he fired the last arrow needed to knock out the predator under him, Jack winced as he felt the sting of the Smilodon's earlier assault. Using the implant, he checked his health, and found that the bite had taken nearly half of his 200 health.
"Must have bitten an artery," he cursed as he noticed the bleeding coming from his back, the angry red managing to leak through his black shirt.
Miko noticed it too as her face grew worried. "That's a lot of bleeding there champ, you gonna be alright?"
Jack waved it off. "Nothing a little bit of cooked meat can't fix," he said reassuringly. Somehow, eating cooked meat had improved their natural healing by leaps and bounds. He only hoped its effects would help treat Sabertooth bites.
"Ow! See? It's already going up," he winced as he took a bite out of the steak he had. It did help increase his health, but at a painstakingly slow pace. Plus, he wasn't feeling very hungry at the moment. "On second thought, maybe I'll wait in the boat."
Jack hobbled over to the boat and laid in his sleeping back to help with his healing. Meanwhile, Raf and Miko were out trying to supply meat for the tames they had just downed. They quickly found that the island had no shortage of predators, as everywhere they turned carnivores were duking it out.
The chaos worked in the humans' favor, taking chances to scavenge the fallen bodies before victor could properly dine. Using this hit and run strategy, the teens and the dinos managed to nab prime meat from 2 Carno corpses and a fallen Argy, leaving the angry predators who had killed them eating dust instead as they fed the meat to their future tames.
The rag tag hunters also actively hunted the Pulmonoscorpius present on the island, as they needed as much chitin as they could manage for cementing paste. They generally avoided the large packs of Raptors wandering about for their safety, though they were able to take down a Saber in self defense.
While the two teens were out hunting, they had stopped by the cave Raf's whispers had led them to, finally relieving him of hearing "Massive" in his head every few minutes. As they stepped away from the cave, a squawk captured their attention.
Flying away from the small sub-island with the jagged rock, were two Argentavis, their heads ducked low in what appeared to be defeat.
Nearby, Miko and Raf could see a flock had gathered over what appeared to be a Carno corpse. Spyglassing the flock, they could see that in the center were the highest level Argys, allowing themselves to gorge first. The lower level ones waited in the fringes, and when one tried to pull a fast one, their superiors gave them a very sharp reminder of their place.
The carrion birds were viciously tearing into the remains, so much so that it seemed the lower levels wouldn't even get to eat. Seeing this brutal dynamic, Miko hatched a plan in her mind.
"Raf, how much stone do we have in the boat?" asked Miko.
Scratching his head, the ghillie chested teen replied, "Probably a lot considering we haven't made that much cementing paste yet. Why?"
Miko smirked. "Because I'm going to bait these suckers."
Miko explained the plan to Raf. She was going to make another raft with foundations, this one with a longer, slimmer base than the houseboat. She planned to harvest enough stone and wood to make a gateway chain large enough to contain an Argy. Using the spaces between gateways, they would be able to shoot inside while the giant bird would be unable to escape. A simple design, but an effective one.
"Alright, let's get to work," Miko said as she went inside the boat to collect their stone. After explaining her plan to Jack, the teenage girl was given all of the resources she needed to craft the raft. Laying it on the sea, she began placing and crafting stone foundations to set the gates on. Her work took them to near dusk when she finally placed the last gate when Raf handed her the materials.
"Aaaand done. I'd say this can hold just about anything," Miko said, proud of her work.
Raf nodded and whistled. "It better be, it was a pain in the butt harvesting stone and wood on this island." He shivered as he remembered the near miss with a flock of aggressive Argies.
"It will be bud, trust me," Miko prided. "Now all we need is bait."
Before Miko could mount Knockout, a loud set of screeches were heard where they had downed the Raptors and the Sabers.
Rushing back, they saw a Carno smashing around the stone, frantically trying to remove something from its back. As the humans got closer, they saw a flash of white ivories as the black as night Saber that'd bit Jack sunk its incisors into the Carno's back. Beside it, the 130 green and black Raptor followed suit, clawing and biting at the predator like there was no tomorrow with the other two pack hunters.
The Carno tried to retreat, but was cut off by Miko and Raf riding Razor Wing and Knockout. The humans assisted their expanded pack into taking down the larger dinosaur, easily defeating it compared to their last head on encounter.
"Not even 30 minutes tamed and they're already having their first group scrap. They grow up so fast," Miko beamed.
Raf grinned as he whistled for the pack animals to follow, leading them back to the houseboat. Miko meanwhile was attaching a fiber-made rope to Knockout and the Carno corpse. To her surprise, Knockout was strong enough to tug the corpse over to the sand, where Miko and Raf assisted the Raptor by putting the trap boat closer to shore. Relieving the tired panting Raptor of his duties, the teens pushed the body up the ramp into the back of the trap.
Raf wiped his forehead. "That's the hard part done. Now we just need to find some Argies to head into the rabbit hole."
"You're not gonna have to go far," came another voice behind them. Turning around, the two friends could see Jack was now up and about, the cooked meat treatment apparently working as well as expected.
"With how many Argies showed up to that one kill, all we need is to get the scent out there."
Looking to the sky, Miko spotted 2 of the giant hawks circling the giant jagged sub-island rock, seemingly the same ones that were outcasted earlier. Seeing an opportunity, she steered the raft towards the shore.
The pure black Argentavis male was agitated. After being bullied by those higher in the flock, his mate and him had missed opportunity after opportunity to feed, their senior flock mates leaving nothing to scavenge. Stomachs growling and pride shattered, the mating pair would take anything they could find, right down to a week old Raptor corpse.
Using her acute sense of smell and sight, the green tipped albino female honed in on what appeared to be a kill. Sensing no other members besides her mate nearby, the bird of prey signaled her mate towards the potential bounty she had picked up inside the human dwelling. They couldn't see the small creatures around, so she assumed they had abandoned their kill, ripe for the taking.
SCREEEEEE
At once, the famished couple descended from the skies towards the stone gates. Inside, they spotted the body of the medium scales lying fresh for the picking. Practically salivating, the Argies dug in with no hesitation.
Rising up from their position in the water, the 3 humans quietly made their way over to the front and side of the gate respectively. Once Jack gave the hand signal, Miko and Raf slammed the gate shut, encasing the two birds.
The black male shrieked as he realized what had just happened. Enraged, the giant bird tried to break down the gates that's just closed, only to be struck by a pointy green stick in the head.
Behind him, he heard his mate cry out too as she was also being struck by the green sticks, driving the couple into a panic. They began bouncing around the trap, trying to find any structural weakness as the pain gave way to drowsiness.
As the attacks kept coming, the black male saw his mate couldn't even hold flight, barely able to stand in two legs. The midnight black hawk hovered over to her position and put his wings around her, attempting to shield the white feathered female from harm.
The female cried out when her mate suddenly collapsed to the floor, unable to overcome the forced sleep. It was not long after that the weariness came for her as well, and both birds lay sprawled over each other. on the stone ground.
Miko relaxed her muscles as the albino avian dropped. "That has to be the most dramatic taming experience we've had so far," she noted.
Raf was a little unnerved. The way the raven colored Argy wrapped its wings around the female struck him as just a bit too human to not feel bad. He was glad they were taming the pair of them. He inwardly promised it wouldn't end up like how Roxanne and Rockefeller's relationship ended...
"Level 75's the both of them," noted Jack. Not bad. It was no 135, but he bet they could still carry their weight. Literally. They had 510 and 532 weight respectively, as well as a decent amount of health and melee to boot.
"We've got a new set of pack mules guys," he announced. Though he knew he couldn't understand English, Jack swore he saw Knockout give a sigh of relief.
Spying something in the distance, Raf could see a ringed purple drop descending on the island. There was also a fight going on between a few Argies and something else, so he figured he could snag some prime meat should any of them fall, shoving the idea of cannibalism out of his mind.
"Be right back guys, I'm going to grab that purple drop," he informed before grabbing Razor Wing and taking off.
As Raf left to grab the drop, Miko noticed something odd. Tapping Jack on the shoulder, she pointed to the sky.
"That's weird, right? We've never seen the moon go orange before?"
"Yeah, and what are those orange meteors?"
Razor Wing glided effortlessly towards the beaming purple light, both Ptera and human keeping an eye out for any signs of the fight that had just ensued, but finding no Argies where there had just been at least 3 a moment ago.
"Look! Let's land," Raf declared as his eye caught on something. Descending near the purple drop, the duo scanned for any potential predators before Raf hopped down to inspect.
"W-What could have killed all of these guys?" the teen wondered nervously as he counted 3 Argentavis corpses on the ground. None of them were eaten, but their bloody bodies were laying in a circle alongside a dead Saber and Raptor.
Moving quickly, he accessed the purple drop with all haste as Razor Wing quickly munched up the meat. Within the drop, he admittedly was disappointed. All he got was a large crop plot blueprint and a subpar ghillie chest, not as good as the current one Jack used. As he packed in his bounty, a familiar clucking caught his attention from behind.
"A Dodo? All the way out here?" questioned Raf aloud. He had seen nothing but carnivores on this island, so hearing the plump little bird waddling around was a bit of a relief.
"Come here buddy," he beckoned to the little silhouette as it waddled into his arms. "You're a long way from where you should be, aren't you?"
As he picked up the Dodo, he felt something odd about its texture. Where the soft feathers of the bird would normally grace his touch, instead he felt something sticky and hard. "Sheesh, did you get caught in Redwoods tree sap or something?" he asked the little avian.
Suddenly, Razor Wing made a distressed squawk at him as he was holding the bird before suddenly, the flying reptile took to the air and sunk its talons into the Dodo before kicking it out of Raf's grasp.
"Hey! What's the big idea Razor Wing?" Raf scolded the Ptera as he walked over to the Dodo he thought had survived the odds on this perilous island. "You ok there little guy?" he asked as he pulled his torch out...
... and discovered that his hand was covered in dried Dodo blood.
"Wha-?" he started as Razor Wing's shrieks of fear became more urgent. That creature's scent was unnatural, and matched a smell she had only experienced once before as a hatchling. Her alpha was in grave danger!
"What is this?!" the stupefied Raf blurted. Raising the torch some more, he got a clear view of the Dodo, and saw it was unlike anything he had ever seen.
The creature was falling apart, its ribs showing themselves as its black heart beat in its open chest cavity. Milky white eyes stared at the human and the Pteranodon that dare attack it on the night of its master. Crying out, it summoned its peers to its side as they crawled out of the sand, sending equally terrifying cries into the air.
Raf started sprinting towards Razor Wing as the latter already tensed her muscles for a quick getaway from the cult of Zombie Dodos. The terrified teen had just jumped onto the saddle before a plume of fire erupted in the center of the Zombie Dodos.
As it burned, a gargantuan beak cut through the flames before they burnt out, revealing a hulking feathered beast. Its build was the same as a T. Rex, except having the head of a Dodo and being much larger than any Rex estimates Raf had ever heard. Rearing back its head, the creature roared into the night as a stream of fire erupted from its mouth, lighting up the Dead Island.
The Dodorex hath cometh!
"AHHHH!" screamed Raf as he ordered Razor Wing to take off. The Pteranodon wasted no time as she pushed off and flew as fast as it could back to the boat, passing under the strong arms of the Dodorex and barely evading the fire it sent after their fleeting image.
Back on the boats, Jack and Miko were still trying to figure out why the moon was casting such a unique shadow when they heard the rapid wing flaps of a Pteranodon.
"Step on it, step on it!" Raf hyperventilated to them as he landed Razor Wing.
Jack lowered his hands to try to calm his friend. "Slow down there Killer, what did you see?" he asked, only to be answered as thundering footsteps sounded close by, much heavier than any Carno.
"Whatever that thing was! Look, we need to leave, now!" Raf again urged.
"Come on Raf, what can possibly take us down now that we have a pack of-" Miko began, only for the ear shattering roar to pierce their ears and minds, causing them to jump in fright. The tamed predators cowered into a corner on the houseboat, sensing a superior creature marching towards them. Even the unconscious Argents shivered, as if its roar had penetrated their dreams and turned them into nightmares.
"Get this raft moving while I get the houseboat. Hurry!" ordered Jack ordered as he dove into the water. Miko immediately got on the rudder as Raf unfurled the sails and paddled with everything he had.
As Jack reached the houseboat, the crashing of trees drew every organism's attention towards the shore. Coming down the hill in all its fury, the Dodorex roared at the little colony of trespassers as plumes of flame and balls of fire erupted from its maw, lighting up the night.
"GO! GO! GO!" screamed Jack as he unfurled the sail and got on the rudder. The wind started pushing the boat away quickly from the island. Not a moment too soon either, as the Dodorex casted a fireball where Jack had just been docked. Floating side by side, the two barges sailed as quick as they could for the mainland, leaving the screams of the mighty creature behind as the orange moon casted its glow on the survivors.
Not where I originally planned to take this chapter, but I figured this is a good Halloween treat. Hope you all enjoyed and Happy Halloween/ Fear Evolved 4 (:
To Liam199e, while it's a good theory, I can neither confirm or deny if you're right. It's an interesting suggestion though. Also thank you again for reading!
To Yubel578, thank you for reading! It will come soon in the future once I'm not so busy with real life things
To hornig3, interesting suggestion there. I do plan on bringing a Theri into Team Prime sometime, but not just yet, especially considering the work someone needs to put in to tame one without kibble ingame lol. Don't worry though, I won't forget this (:
