Chapter 28: rip

"Alright, are you ready Matt?" America asked, looking from Canada to the water below them. Canada nodded.

"Yep! This is gonna be so cool!"

"Totally! Think about it: Me and my brother will be the first people ever to successfully ride down Niagara Falls in a barrel. We'll be famous!"

"It's my brother and I, but yeah. We just have to hide it from our bosses this time." Canada said, smirking a little as he looked at America. America returned the smile, rolling his eyes.

"How was I supposed to know he'd tell your boss and ground us both?"

"How do you think the president would feel when he learned his personification jumped off of Niagara Falls with his brother?"

"I like to think he'd be like, "holy shit my personification is so cool", but that probably wouldn't happen."

Canada stifled a laugh, rolling his eyes, "Ya think? Come on, let's go!"

America nodded, and with that they flew over the edge.

"So uh.. Hi Maria," Canada muttered awkwardly into the phone, covering his ears to block out any extra noise.

"Hola, Matteo! How did your Niagara Falls thing go?" Mexico asked, lowering the volume on her tv so she could hear better, Canada was talking even quieter than usual, which was odd.

"Um.. Not so good. ..Okay, really bad."

"I told you guys it was a bad idea."

"You wanted to come with us!" Mexico chuckled a little.

"Okay, maybe I did. But my boss said I had to go to a meeting or whatever. Anyway, is Alfred okay?" Canada hesitated.

"Well um.. He's seen better days, I guess.." Mexico raised an eyebrow, pausing her show.

"Mattie? Seriously, what happened?"

"Uh.. He may have kind of.. Died."

Mexico was only quiet for a few seconds, but it seemed like a lot longer to Canada.

"..Are you still there Maria-"

"He WHAT."

Mexico came over as fast as she could, accidentally bumping into doctor and nurses around the hospital so she could find America's room. When she eventually found it, Canada gestured for her to come inside.

"Is he actually.. Y'know.." She asked, taking a seat and glancing at America. Canada slowly nodded.

"Um.. Yeah.. He is. He has no pulse and he hasn't moved at all since we crashed, so.. Yeah." Mexico sighed and sat up straighter so she could assess his injuries.

"It doesn't look like he'll be out for long, at least. A few days at the most."

"You think that'll be enough time to take over America and split his land evenly between us?" Canada asked with a small smile, trying to lighten the mood. Mexico returned the smile, nodding.

"What kind of a question is that, Mattie? Of course it's enough time!" Mexico responded, chuckling solemnly. "We just gotta be quick about it."

They both continued watching America, hoping he would make any sort of movement. Even though all nations could regenerate after dying, it was still scary to see. It was weird seeing even the most rambunctious of nations look so quiet and peaceful. It was... Beautifully haunting.

"He'll... He'll be alright," Canada muttered softly after a few minutes. "We just gotta wait."

"Yeah... I know."

wow so it's been a hot minute. hi. how've y'all been? good? great, i've been doing both fantastic yet horrible mentally-speaking

so anyway, a bunch of shit has been happening in my life and as much as i love writing fanfiction, i've decided i'm ready to start outlining an actual book (not that fanfictions aren't actual books, but y'know. like, as in my own original creation)
my point is, that has been taking up most of my time and even though i'm still totally in the hetalia fandom, i don't think i'll be making fanfictions that often any more (and since NAM is my most popular fic, i thought that it's probably best that i say it here lol)

speaking of NAM, this fic made me realize that "wow,,,, people actually like, *like* my writing. holy shit" and i can't be more thankful for that confidence boost. i knew i always wanted to become an author and this has totally helped. but i think (for the time being, at least) that i'm done with this series. i do want to come back and occasionally write a chapter or two, because canada and america are two super fun characters to write, but overtime i haven't rlly had enough ideas for this and it sort of became more of a chore than something i actually want to write, so it's gonna be on hiatus for a while. and when i (probably inevitably) come back, i'm probably gonna make one major change.

tbh, i dunno about mexico. i really like her, she's fun to write and all, but i absolutely hate that i put no research into mexican culture or history while making her. in fact, i made her in like, 3 seconds and i really don't like that i did that. idk, it just feels like i'm being disrespectful to mexican culture and stuff by keeping her so if i do come back to this, i don't think she'll be a main character anymore. plus, i just in general know much more about canada and america (as i am canadian) and this series was always meant to serve as writing exercises for me, not anything that i actually needed to put research into. i'm sorry if you guys liked her :(

also i'm super sorry for like, making this super long and probably longer than the actual one-shot but this probably had to be said because it feels mean to just post a chapter and disappear for another 7 months or however long i've been gone geiahfkjebgjsagb

aNyway, thanks to you all for the support, i'm most likely gonna update my other fics much more than this (or at least maybe like one every month idk fekfeklsn) if you still wanna check out my work, and see ya! (hopefully)
