"I spoke to the principle of U.A."
Hitoshi looked up from the cloak Harry summoned.
"Really? I've read about him, no one knows what he is."
"Oh, well, we didn't talk about that."
"I'm sorry."
Harry was standing a little outside the group of adults whispering over Aziawa's phone. He heard a cough behind him and looked down at this...rat? Bear? What the?
"Hello Potter. Oh! I'm sorry, Harry. May I speak with you for a moment?"
Harry nodded. He looked back at Naomasa but he was already informed that the principal was okay to talk to. He was trustworthy.
"My congratulations on the course! It's rare to see a young person with raw talent. Have you thought about going to U.A.?"
Harry nodded. "I don't think there's a kid in my school who doesn't want to. But..."
Nezu pressured on. "But?"
"I don't know if I can control it in time."
Nezu chuckled. "From what I heard, you use your power to help others by accident rather than help yourself."
Harry blushed. The amount of time his quirk saves someone from falling or spilling tea was getting a little out of hand.
"Have you ever saved someone from a big accident?"
Harry sighed. "I wished I did."
At Nezu's confused face, he continued. "When I was younger, Aunt Petunia would tell me my parents died in a crash, they were drunk driving. She would always say the worst things, usually about my mom, about how much of a trouble she was as a kid, just like me. She told me I must've caused a lot of trouble in the back, and made them focus on me long enough to crash, she said I probably got them killed. Learning about all of this, I wish I could've done something, even as a baby, I might've been able to do something."
Harry felt both tears down his face and a paw take his hand. He felt the paw held his hand out and another pat his open hand. "Sometimes, people that are meant to care, don't. Your Aunt doesn't really know what happened, and I'm sorry to say, she probably only said that to hurt you."
Harry whipped his tears away. "I never believed her anyway, it just hurt for her to say. Some times, I dream of a woman screaming and green light. I think that's how my mom really died. Only Miss Figg believed me."
Nezu didn't remember a Figg in the file of anyone related to Harry. "Who?"
Harry looked surprised. "Oh, Miss Figg the crazy," Harry coughed. "Um...the nice lady with a bunch of cats. She would take care of me when the Dursley's went on vacation. She told me that my parents were probably very brave, and loved me dearly. She told me she met my mom once, and didn't seem like a drunk to her. When Uncle Vernon threw the magic set out, she picked it up for me to play with when I would be over. She always told me to believe in the little magical things in the world. And if I was patient, things would look up."
Nezu was definitely going to have to bring this up later. His mind already going crazy with the plans he had to figure this out. "She sounds like a strange but wonderful woman."
"Harry! I gotta bring you back now!"
Harry looked to see Naomasa calling him over. Nezu released his hand. "I'm sure we'll talk later, have a nice evening Harry."
"Bye!"
Dr. Fūgawarina coughed at the silent room. "I thank you for sharing that information Principal, however, I don't know how that helps your theory."
"I am going to wait until I have more information. What I will say is that whatever is going on, one, Harry's parents did not die the way his aunt said they did. Two, whatever Harry has, quirk or otherwise, both this miss Figg and his aunt know about in greater detail than Harry does."
Nezu's pocket buzzed, and he pulled his phone out and smiled. "I would like us to see Harry's memories. We might be able to infer more than Harry was able to understand, and perhaps go further than what Harry remembers."
He plugged his phone into the computer to show his phone screen to the audience. It showed a series of texts from a number that doesn't have a contact yet.
"You want someone to go digging through Harry's mind to find more information." Naomasa said and it wasn't a question.
Nezu answered anyway. "Correct, with the boys-Harry's permission, of course," he corrected himself. "He will be told everything here, I would like some more time to talk to this person and solidify a deal. As well as give everyone enough time to document everything, I'm sure, detective, you have a bunch of paperwork to fill out still?"
Naomasa nodded and stood from his chair. "Is that all?"
Nezu nodded. "Yes, please, everyone is dismissed."
Harry had a rather uneventful week. Gesu was annoying, but when wasn't he?
It was approaching Halloween and everyone was choosing from a board to pick cheap Halloween costumes from. The kids were going to have a small afternoon dance at school, and an evening "monster bash" at the orphanage.
Hitoshi tried to make Harry pick the "witch/wizard" option but Harry passed. Halloween, even at the Dursleys, was always a bummer. He knew his parents died sometime around then. Dudley was always cheerful to ruin what little happiness Harry could have. The Dursley's made him dress up in something cheap just so Dudley could get more candy. Honestly, if it wasn't for the free food or the expectation that everyone was doing something "spooky", Harry was sure his aunt and uncle wouldn't celebrate it.
"Besides," Harry said, when Hitoshi wouldn't drop it. "I'm not going out, remember? Going out with Naomasa."
"I remember..." Hitoshi said in a small voice.
"...Are you okay?" Harry stopped walking in front of Hitoshi.
"I'm worried. I know that you like him a lot and he obviously cares for you. I'm happy an adult cares about you like that. I'm just scared that'll you'll leave and not look back, I'm not getting out of this place Harry, no ones looking for me, or cares." Hitoshi said, eyes not looking at Harry.
"...Even if you don't get out, I wouldn't leave you behind. I would still go to this school, and you could maybe come over, or I could come over to see you. I wouldn't leave my best friend."
"I'm your only friend." Hitoshi smiled as he said that.
Harry laughed. "You can't be too upset if your making jokes at my expense."
"Have you decided what your going to be?" Harry asked. "For Halloween? I was thinking electrocuted victim or mad scientist, with the hair and all." He smirked, and got a light punch in the arm.
"And what would you be Harry? A tree branch with that birds nest you call hair on top?" Hitoshi quipped back.
"Hey!"
They laughed and talked the rest of the night. The cloak Harry summoned in his little desk, waiting.
"Oh my god, you are an electrocuted victim, an electrocuted zombie!" Harry was laughing on the bed when he woke up. The other kids had gotten up early to get ready and make their Halloween costumes, Harry was able to sleep right until the morning wake up call.
"It's a zombie, not an electrocuted zombie." Hitoshi deadpanned.
Harry snorted. "There's nothing wrong with a themed zombie." He looked at Hitoshi again, and went back to laughing.
"I think I look great." He struck a pose to show himself off, before laughing a bit himself.
"It's not that, I'm laughing because you didn't actually change all that much."
Hitoshi grabbed his chest. "My undead heart! Why are you so mean?"
After the school dance (which was just him and Hitoshi in a corner, avoiding everyone), Harry went off with Naomasa. Hitoshi took everything off and decided to read instead of do the bash with the other kids.
Gesu was not going to this lame ass party. He was sneaking off. From the older students at school, he was joining a street dance not too far from the orphanage. To have some actual fun.
He was going by himself, while he liked his group of lackeys enough, the older kids suggested he go alone, less likely to get caught, and the one older student said he was the coolest young kid he knew, no way was Gesu gonna ruin that.
It was quite easy to sneak out. None of the helpers were keeping track of the kids, Madam was leaving to be with her family, some of the kids weren't even going to the dumb dance, and even Potter was leaving with the detective dude, sneaking out was just too easy.
The "Street Dance" was just a bunch of teens/young adults around some small park area, not too far from what Gesu guessed was most of the kids high school. Some were smoking, a couple making out in the background, and Gesu was definitely uncomfortable. He guessed that most wouldn't be able to tell he was young. He was tall for his age, but still...
The group that brought him here greeted the group and introduced himself to them. They all said their names and quirks, some looked mildly impressed with his, and they all talked.
Gesu was uncharacteristically quiet. He couldn't keep up with their homework talk, or local high school gossip, he chuckled when everyone laughed at a joke he didn't get. He spoke only when spoken too, and he didn't like that.
"What about you Gesu, you aren't from around here huh?"
The group he was with didn't say he was young, and he wasn't going to bring up.
"No, I'm visiting family, leaving soon."
He didn't think he was gonna do this again. He felt small, he didn't like that, he was used to being bigger, the biggest and best.
"Is it all fun and games from wherever you are from?"
He missed the looks. They all knew he was young, but teasing was half the fun, and letting the kid off the hook ruins the fun.
"Everything's fine...really?" He didn't mean for it to sound like a question. It was just an odd question.
The older kids in his group pitched in.
"He was telling us earlier, this bully got him all tangled, a really villain in the making, you know? Brainwashing."
The girls looked spooked. Gesu could work with this.
"Nah, he's not so bad, all talk, those types. He's a real push over, just wish I could help some of the young ones. This new kid rolled up some time ago, and I'm positive he got brainwashed, no one believes me, but he's got that glazed look, doesn't socialize with anyone else, it's a shame."
"It's a shame?"
An older man in the back spoke up, he hasn't spoken up much through the night. He smoked like a chimney and listened. Something must've got his interest.
"With a quirk like that, you can do nothing?" The man spoke, almost accusing Gesu.
He felt a lot of things with that statement. What was he supposed to do, he did everything he could, and still does, but what do they expect from him?
Almost like the guy could read his mind (for all Gesu knew, he could be), he smirked. "You should take things into your own hands, for the young ones. That's what's wrong with society sometimes. Everyone just wants peace, even overlooking the small wrongs like a kid being brainwashed. You want to stop the small wrongs now before they become bigger problems, but some older people, they don't want to stir the pot, it'll be other people's problem soon. If I were you? I'd save this kid. Become a hero, even if it's for a small wrong."
He had slowly walked his way to Gesu, at the end clapped him on the back, nodded to some of the other people, and walked off.
"That was fucking weird..."
"He's always been a little off..."
"Who invited him..."
They talked about that guy for a while. No one could really place him and some were convinced he was just a creep that wasn't even invited. After a while the group noticed something was up.
"Where's Gesu?"
They all looked around and couldn't find him.
"You aren't worried about him? He's a child. He was fun watching him squirm but you shouldn't do that again dude."
"He probably got spooked and ran off, he'll be fine."
I wanted this to be over 2,000 words as an apology. College sucks, updates will be sporadic at best (as if they weren't already), giving a heads up now.
This hasn't been a good year huh? Thankfully, I'm not in the worst hit places, but that doesn't mean you don't...feel the effects of this.
Aside from that, I was almost debating not doing this. The Harry Potter community has been dealing with a lot, JK has been...surprising. Personally, I'm disappointed. Many people look to Harry Potter for an escape, and a belief that Hogwarts would accept everyone, but now, many people believe they would be shunned even in the wizarding world. I can't tell you how to feel, or react to something like this. Personally, all my HP clothing has become lounge wear. No public Harry Potter support, no more buying merchandise. I love this community, and even the rabid fans. I just don't feel comfortable supporting her in a financial way anymore.
Just know that while JK herself may not support you, the community at large does. Harry, Ron, and Hermione all accept you. And we know she's wrong. She's not in the right. We know that, ironically, from Harry Potter, that trying to exclude a group of people from where they truly belong, being bigoted, hateful, it never works. This may not mean much, and I hope this doesn't come across as empty, but I accept you. I can say for certain the community at large accepts you. Even if you're Slytherin (Slytherin Pride!).
Stay safe everyone, wear a mask and wash your hands, do your part, a new year is coming. Let's welcome it (and pray to any god or Antigod you believe in that it is better than fucking 2020).
