"This is a message for Obi-wan Kenobi. I've lost Mandalore. My people have been massacred and Almec is now the Prime Minister. I can't explain everything now, but Almec has the support of the Crime Families. Obi-wan, I need your help." Odette had her mother's words playing over and over in her head as she prepped her ship. She was going to rescue her mother.
"I'm somewhat glad I held onto this." Odette looked over as her father joined her in the cockpit in his bounty hunter disguise. "And I'm glad you're coming with me." Obi-wan placed a hand on his daughters shoulder before taking his seat.
Odette grinned as she continued initiating the ship's start up sequence. "She's my mother, of course I'm going to do something...and I'm glad you asked for my help." She started up her ship as she sent her codes for ground clearance. "But keep in mind, we aren't acting on orders from the Council or the Republic from here on out."
With their clearance given, Odette flew them out of the docking bay and towards one of the surface access vents. Then she merged onto a hyper lane for planetary exit. Then it was a matter of lining up for the jump to hyperspace. Odette finalized the calculation for the jump to hyperspace, having imputed the coordinates while leaving the planet's atmosphere. With the completion of the calculation, they made their jump.
Odette let out a sigh as she spun her chair around and looked at her father. "If Death Watch is in control of Mandalore, then my armor should let me pass off as one of them. We're going to need to snag some armor off of someone for you when we land."
"How are we going to land? I doubt they're just going to just let us land." Obi-wan watched as his daughter thought of a plan. She remind him so much of Satine. Even the way she held her chin as she thought things over. Or maybe that was a habit of his she picked up?
Obi-wan knew Odette had a plan when her head snapped up. "Mandalore has a neutral stranding law. Any ship that lands needing repairs on any major system or their hull integrity are granted landing permits."
"So we damage the ship before we land?" Obi-wan looked at Odette with a bit of worry. Damaging a ship while in hyperspace was dangerous. "Any damage could tear us to pieces in hyperspace."
"But catastrophic damage to ships while exiting hyperspace is surprisingly common." Odette added. "I just need to pull an Anakin."
Obi-wan wasn't sure to laugh or sigh that Anakin was being referred to in such a manner. "Don't let Anakin hear you say that." Odette chuckled before turning back to her controls. "I can sense your worry. We'll save her."
"It's not just mom I'm worried about." Odette admitted as she set her sensors and prepped things for their 'bumpy' arrival. "It's Mandalore I'm worried about. It's already gone through so much. There some parts of it that are just staring to see green again. I don't want to lose it too."
Silence fell between them as they both prepared for their mission. Once the computer told them they had arrived, Odette set everything in place. "Ready?"
"Is anyone every ready to crash a ship?" Obi-wan asked his daughter.
Odette let out a breath, not really wanting to deliberately damage her ship, but knowing it's necessity. She opened all the drag flaps and reversed the thrusters at the same moment she disengaged the hyperdrive. The ship gave a violent jerk as they exited hyperdrive. "There goes hull integrity and the hyperdrive is offline, but undamaged. Good, we're going to need that on the way out." She grabbed her helmet from the dash and put it on, knowing if anyone spotted her they would recognize her.
She began their decent into Mandalore, aiming for Sundari. She set the ship down as gently as she could. "Deck officer is coming over. And it looks like I'm actually going to need a paint job. They're red now."
"Well, I should introduce myself." Obi-wan announced as he headed for the main hull.
Odette followed him down and pulled open a spare compartment. She started up the small pit droid. "Get the hyperdrive back online. And if you finish with that before we are back, seal the hull." The droid beeped before getting to work.
Walking to the back, she could see her father working his way into the Mandalorian armor. "It's not that easy to put on." Obi-wan remarked as tried to make sense of all the pieces.
Odette shook her head. "Let me." She quickly help him set all the plates in place. "Red is not your color."
"I don't imagine it'll suit you any better." Obi-wan teased as he put the helmet on. "We need to paint yours."
"We just need to cover the blue, we don't have time for anything more." Odette grabbed some paint from one of her missions from the Chancellor. The two of them easily covered all of the blue paint and due to the nature of the paint, it dried instantly. But any moisture would wash it right off. "Let's get going."
Together the two walked off the ship and headed into the capital city. They got onto a shuttle and set coordinates for the prison. "Would they keep her in maximum security?" Obi-wan asked, not sure how Mandalore would chose to detain Satine.
"She's a non-violent, so that would mean lower security, but there's a good chance she escaped imprisonment when she sent that message. So I'd say in the mid-security confinement cells." Odette recalled from her cadet days. She looked over the prison sectors on the shuttle's computer. "This one." She selected the prison that would have the confinement cells.
They pulled up on the vast complex. Odette landed the shuttle and they entered the prison, not drawing any attention from other guards. She hoped they wouldn't have to deal with any, but she was prepared to do what she must if it came to it.
Once they got into the cell block, Odette took a deep breath before focusing on her mother. Son had taught her a few abilities, one just so happened to be finding someone she had a strong attachment to. She let the Force guide her through the halls and up a lift, her father following behind her.
"You do know where you're going, right?" Obi-wan asked his daughter. He could feel something different from the girl, but nothing cold or malicious.
Odette smirked behind her helmet. "Trust me, I'm in control." The doors opened and she continued to follow the Force until they reached a cell.
Odette found herself frozen from relief at the sight of her mother. She opened the cell and stepped inside along with her father. Her mother knelt on the ground, her back to them. "Come to do more of your Master's bidding?" Satine asked whoever had entered her cell.
Obi-wan removed his helmet. "I do my own bidding." Odette shook her head at her father's response.
"Obi-wan." Satine knew his voice anywhere, and his remark only confirmed his identity. She stood and leaned into him, glad he had come. She looked to the other 'guard' in her cell. "Odette." She could tell even with the crude paint job that this was her daughter's armor.
"Mom." Odette took her mother's hand. "It's just us. We have to go, now."
Satine nodded as she followed the two out of her cell. "I'm assuming one of you has a plan."
"Don't I always?" Obi-wan asked as he replaced his helmet before calling for a lift.
They were startled when the lift doors open and a guard stood inside the lift. Obi-wan and Odette took up the act of guards on a prison transfer and entered the lift. They pushed the button and the lift continued it's descent.
Silence filled the lift for a few moments. "I wasn't aware there was a prisoner transfer today."
"Code 89 from up top." Odette spat out. "This one's already caused problems. Though she doesn't look like much trouble to me."
"Do you even know who this is?" The guard looked to Odette, shock evident in his voice.
Odette looked up at him. "Of course I know who she is. Doesn't mean she doesn't look like trouble. She's not putting up any fuss. And I don't ask unnecessary questions when the Prime Minister gives an order." The guard nodded, seeming to accept Odette's lie.
"What's the authorization code?" Odette cursed their luck. Of course they implemented additional regulations.
She shared a look with her father before they both acted, knocking out the guard before he could fire on them. They left him on the floor before her father and mother got onto a speeder bike. "Go!" Odette ordered as she grabbed her pistols and fired on the other bikes.
Other guards began shooting at her, but she easily avoided them. Son had taught her how to use her future sight ability at will and on objects instead of her surroundings. She didn't even need to use the force to stop or deflect the shots at all. She didn't fire on the guards themselves, they were just following orders.
Once the last bike was destroyed, Odette activated her jet pack and took off towards the landing platform and her ship. She landed and found her ship in worse condition, but could probably still be flyable. She got to the cockpit and found her father trying to take off.
"Nothing's working." Obi-wan reported as he moved aside for Odette.
Odette quickly typed out on her computer. "See if you can find Pitty. He's my mechanic droid." She asked her father as she tried to start the ship, but it looked like someone had sabotaged it. Could it have been the guard they took the armor from? Or had someone else damaged their ship?
The ship gave a shudder before smoke blasted into the cockpit. Odette couldn't see anything thought the thick smoke and it was slipping into her helmet. Odette coughed as she ushered her mother out of the cockpit. Hopefully they could find another ship they could take to get off Mandalore. Or even just a shuttle they could use to reach another settlement.
Odette heard a beeping coming from an access panel. She bent down to check as she removed her helmet to try and get oxygen instead of smoke. She spotted her pit droid pulling wires. "Traitor." She hisses before crushing it with the force.
She stumbled down the ramp out of the ship, coughing to try and get the smoke out of her lungs. Odette looked up as a shadow hovered over her. She looked up to find a yellow and black zebrac staring down at her. "Well, you're-" she was interrupted as her muscles seized and convulsed, an effect of being hit with a stun bolt. She felt herself hit the ground before her consciousness faded, remembering the last time this had happened on Mandalore.
Odette woke with jolt, her body meeting the floor. She pushed herself up to her knees, glaring at a chuckling voice. "I had hoped to draw Kenobi here, but to draw his padawan as well, what fortune I have found." She wondered who this Zabrac was and what grudge he had against her father.
Odette pushed herself to her feet, ignoring the multiple blasters aimed at her. The beskar she wore would protect her from most of them, and her abilities would do the rest. "And who would you be? You seem awfully comfortable sitting on that chair."
Maul chuckled. "Has your Master never mentioned me?"
"Guess you weren't worth the time." She could see how that angered him, she could feel the darkness swell with his anger. "You don't scare me Sith."
"Odette, calm yourself." Odette looked over at her father. Obi-wan looked composed, but she could sense the worry underneath all of his calm. "What is the point in all of this? What do you have to gain from this?"
"It's not what I have to gain, Master Kenobi, it's what you have to lose." Maul growled as he lifted Satine with the force, choking her. Odette openly glared at the zabrac, but he was focused on her father. She could use his obsession to her advantage. "I can feel your anger, your fear. Let it consume you. Embrace it."
"Don't listen to him, Obi." Satine gasped out as she struggled against the invisible grip holding her.
Odette felt a wave of calm and serenity from her father. "You may kill me, but you will never destroy me." Obi-wan looked up at Maul. "It takes strength to resist the dark side, only the weak embrace it."
Maul growled at the Jedi's rebuttal. "It is more powerful than you know."
"And those who oppose it are more powerful than you'll ever be." Odette could hear the Son chuckling in her mind as her father spoke. "I know where you're from. I've been to your village. I know your decision to join the dark side wasn't yours. The Night Sisters made it for you-"
"Silence!" Maul shouted, his teeth bared. "You think you know me?!" He stepped down towards Obi-wan, his concentration fully focused on the Jedi Master. "It was I who languished for years thinking of nothing but you! Nothing but this moment." He pointed back at Satine, still dangling in his grasp. "And now, the tool for my vengeance is before us. I never planned on killing you, but I will make you share my pain, Kenobi."
Odette could tell that she needed to act now, or her mother would die. 'Time to put your training to use.' She prepared herself with a deep breath before reaching out and grasping onto the Force. The air rippled and vibrated as she pushed against the other force users in the room, knocking everyone off balance.
"While I do enjoy a good fight, it's not with him you will be dueling." Odette pushed the Mandalorian guards back as she pulled her mother over to her father. She watched as the zabracs struggled against her power as she moved to stand between her parents and the other dark side users. "Under the law of Mandalore, I challenge you for right of rule." She released her push, allowing her opponent to fight her.
Maul growled as he looked at this jedi that was challenging him. Though her eyes glowed yellow as a sith, he could see something now that he hadn't seen before. He had to laugh at this revelation. "What an interesting turn. I could not see it before, but I see it now. You are not his apprentice, you are his child." He laughed more as he straightened. "Do you truly believe you can defeat me child? I am not Mandalorian."
"You are in control of Death Watch." Odette argued back. "You are of Mandalore now, or you forfeit your rule and life." She lifted her arms, pulling her sabers to her hands. "You can either fight and die as a warrior, or you can deny it again, and die as a traitor and a coward."
Maul growled grabbing his red saber to use along with the dark saber. "If you wish to die first, child, then I will indulge you." Odette ignited her sabers, a red and blue blade extending from them. Maul ignited his red and black blades in turn. The room was silent as the two Sith stared each other down, their yellow eyes not breaking contact.
The room remained silent, no one dared to break the mounting tension, or were chocked by it. Odette was the first to move, lunging forward with her sabers in a reverse grip. Maul met her attack, using his superior strength as an advantage to put her onto the defensive. Odette fended him off, managing to maintain control as they moved about the room.
Odette spun out of his reach, giving her a chance to connect her blades into a staff configuration. Giving it a test spin she renewed their battle, this time being the aggressor. She pulled on the dark side of the force, delving into her powers. She avoided Maul's attacks and pushed him back, not finding it fair to cut him down while using her ability to see his movements. The anger and frustration that poured off of him intoxicated Odette and she found herself laughing as she enjoyed toying with the zabrac, knowing she would have to bring their duel to an end before he managed to regain the upper hand on her.
As she swung with her staff she switched off her red blade, allowing her to increase the power in her attack. Maul brought his sabers up to block, feeling the Force supporting this chid against him. They locked blades, blue meeting red and black. "What are you?" Maul growled out in frustration.
"I am a daughter of Mandalore, and I will not have someone like you in possession of it." Odette's hands crackled as sparks danced through her fingers. With another push she sent a wave of force lighting at Maul, wearing him down. She let out her saber lower to her right side as her left hand sent another blast of lightning at Maul. After a few more shocks, the zabrac was huddled on the stairs to the throne, the fight gone from him. "You have lost-"
A pair of blue and red sabers clashed beside her head, her father just managing to block an attack from the yellow zabrac. Odette pushed the zabrac back, knocking him through a window. "Find him." She ordered nearby guards who obeyed her command. She looked back down at Maul. "Put this one in a stasis cell, and find any Mandalorian Vaults that may still exist." More guards obeyed her command, stunning Maul before dragging him away.
"Odette?" Satine asked as she watched her daughter bend down to pick up the black lightsaber Maul had been using in their fight. Pre Vizla had also once possessed that saber, the saber of an ancient Mandalorian Jedi. The new symbol of the Ruler of Mandalore.
Odette looked at the blade in her hand, easily identifying it as a relic of Old Mandalore. It was hers now. She ignited the blade before looking to Almec. "Do you oppose my rule, Prime minister?"
Almec placed a hand on his chest. "Of course not, Duchess Odette."
"I'm no Duchess." Odette countered as she turned her attention to her father beside her, then her mother. "Place these two in a cell and contact the Republic. They can come and collect their jedi."
"Duchess-" Odette sent a glare at Almec. "The Jedi invaded with intent of freeing a prisoner to cause unrest. He should be punished, not released. And there will always be a divide in the people if you allow your mother to live."
"Are you questioning me, Prime Minister? Because if I recall, just a moment ago you said you did not oppose my rule." She examined the black blade once more. "It seems you do oppose me. Lock him up." She ordered as she deactivated the sabers in her hands. Soon the room was empty, or so anyone would think. "Are you done spying, Aunt Bo?"
A half dozen blue clad Mandalorian dropped from the ceiling, having been hiding on the roof. Bo Katan removed her helmet, regarding her niece. "Red is not your color." The two laughed before embracing. "I'm proud of you, Odette, but now comes the hard part, leading and ruling."
"Well, I've got you and mom as examples." She looked back at the saber in her hands. "It's heavier than I thought it would be."
Bo placed a hand on her niece's shoulder. "It should be. I suppose this makes you Mand'alor, the strongest of us all. Our Leader."
Odette nodded as she hung the saber on her belt. She reached out and picked up Maul's other blade with the force. "If I am to rule Mandalore as Mand'alor, I will need to show them I'm in command, that I am the strongest." She hung it on her belt as well before picking her discarded helmet up from the floor. The red paint was starting to chip off.
"We need to inform the people." Bo Katan advised.
Odette thought for a moment before looking to her aunt. "Mother mentioned the Crime families were involved. How many?"
"About a dozen or so." Bo Katan watched as the gears turned in Odette's mind. "Maul gathered them together to try and make some kind of combined crime syndicate. They're scattered across Mandalore."
"Then we root them out. First in Sundari, and then the rest of Mandalore." She looked to her aunt then the other warriors with her. "Once we have driven them from Mandalore, then we tell the people. I want to catch them by surprise, and hopefully catch many of them before word spreads between them that Maul has fallen."
"When do you want to start?" Bo Katan could see the drive in Odette's eyes as she put her helmet back on.
Odette wished she had the time to change the paint on her armor, but that would have to wait until later. "Right now."
It wasn't always my intention to have Odette become ruler of Mandalore, I just found this gave me the best options for going forward. And now Odette is in control of Mandalore and is embracing the dark side more openly, which is going to be fun...trust me.
