RubyHobbit here with chapter 14 yay!
Quick review like usual if you're tired of these don't worry you can skip them if you like these little chapter reviews, like I do, please tell me below. I like knowing if these are helpful in answering any questions you have.
So, we started off last chapter in Serenity's point of view back in the gym right after she asked Aizawa if she could talk to him and Hizashi as well as Bakugo about everything she could and answer all of the questions they had. However, in order for some of those questions to be answered some would have to be asked by Ember. Realizing this she asked to leave from training early to go and get everything set up and also inform Hizashi. Before she leaves, she also asks for Aizawa to ask Bakugo for her to come to the house for the talk to which Aizawa, though slightly reluctantly, agrees to. Then we switch to Bakugo's point of view.
Bakugo had just finished his fight with Kirishima, and in his usual manner, stood to brag to the lizard. Though was disappointed that she was no longer there. The reason why is because he wanted to spar with her again to beat her since she was using the same style as Kirishima in the beginning of their fight, to which he learned from. He doesn't get taken down by the same thing twice and wanted to see what else she could do, but from pulling out his phone and seeing that it was already 7 he thought that she was sent back to her dorms by Aizawa since he knew that she was actually pretty excited to train. This was also the only time that he had ever seen her have a strong look in her eyes instead of an irritated or sad look like normal and didn't think that she would leave unless told so.
Aizawa comes up to Bakugo and Kirishima that they can go back to their dorms but asks Bakugo to stay back for a moment to talk. Kirishima almost stayed but Bakugo said he would catch up with him later to which of course Kirishima being Kirishima just smiles and nods with an "Okay man," (I know I didn't type that but you can visualize that) and heads out. Aizawa tells Bakugo about how Serenity wanted to talk and finish what she started earlier that day to with a bit of annoyance Bakugo agrees to and heads over to their house with Aizawa.
At the house he's meets up with Serenity carrying two important boxes that she is carrying to the basement, but doesn't answer him really to why, just that he would find out later annoying him slightly. He becomes more annoyed when he sees Hizashi and gets asked about Apple cider and Mochi. Though Serenity informs him that those are her favorites, and they are used as bribery to keep her in the room instead of running off. He started to calm down when Hizashi started to nag her but got irritated when Serenity cut him off saying she'd be fine about something, and when he got asked, he again got told that he'd find out later.
While catching her parents up on her past, Bakugo makes the thought that he likes the Apple cider and the Mochi which we learn is vanilla ice cream Mochi, but it's a bit sweet for him. He was also watching Hizashi and Aizawa and how they treated her with stuff like this. Especially with comfort because of earlier that day. He chuckles at the sweet moment when Hizashi hugs her head and Aizawa pats it but realizes that they didn't know the sensitivity of her fin. Though it was a nice distraction he had to pull the conversation back to the rest of the story otherwise he would have come over for nothing.
This was hard for her since we learned that her Father had killed her Mom, and the reason why he tore off her wings was because she was trying to protect her. In order for her to say this though it took some convincing from her parents as well as from Bakugo who for the first time to her face called her by her name. Shocked Serenity stared at him for a moment but was actually more motivated to try again by this. Even if she had to curl up in a ball and scream it basically.
This made Hizashi and Aizawa freeze from shock and caused Bakugo to get up from his seat to comfort her like he did earlier that day, but also learned that this wasn't the day that Serenity learned about the curse. That day is also bad by the way.
After Bakugo calms her down Serenity says that he needs to talk to someone else to which he knows is Ember. This snaps Hizashi and Aizawa back to reality and the get up and head to the basement. Serenity heads upstairs to get changed and Bakugo went down to the basement where we learn what those boxes had.
The first aid box held the syringe and vails of paralyzing venom that was introduced back in like what chapter 3? (looks back through her files) yeah chapter 3. Learning this Bakugo wasn't pleased at all. More worried about Serenity and what would happen to her from it. Also learning that this wasn't the first time she went through this made him more mad. He thought Ember could take over like before when she was in heat or be controlled in a way but learned that if she didn't take it he would get hurt and so would Hizashi and Aizawa.
Not to mention he got even more mad when she said if he really wanted to learn everything, she was willing to talk but he would have to make the choice himself. She wasn't going to force him, seeing as he was upset that she had to go so far in order to do so. She quoted him from earlier though that she had made it this far. This calmed him down and actually made him respect her a little bit. However, he was still reluctant to remove her fangs, but he wanted to know the answers to his questions.
Now when Ember took over, he scales covered her body and her horns appeared on her head, and her eyes changed from gold with a white sclera to greenish with a black sclera. This is a 100% transformation that is only able to be achieved through Ember. Serenity can still only control 25% at most meaning that weird mask trick and one limb with scales. She can also control small bodies of water, but we already know she sucks at that so yeah…. She really can't do much.
Now with Ember in control she is actually pretty calm. Her voice is a little bit higher than Serenity's but very similar. Kind of like if she was excited about something. She is fine with answering whatever questions they have because Serenity or "Angel" is letting her have full control at the moment even though she can't move.
We learn that her master is dead, and the only way to break the curse now is through death. Aizawa and Hizashi because no parent ever wants to hear there isn't a way to save their child, adopted or not.
Ember doesn't believe that they should care and thinks her being adopted is nothing but bullshit since they will only die in the end. This made Bakugo snap suddenly asking why she had to suffer this fate. To which Ember simply said that her ancestors abused the quirk and used it for themselves, and that the apple never falls to far from the tree basically. This ticked him off even more because Serenity has never used the quirk to his knowledge for anything selfish.
He was proven right when Ember admitted that she hadn't but was surprised that when he said that, Bakugo believed that Ember was Serenity's quirk. We learned that Ember is more of a parasite. (pretty much she is like Venom. No, she is almost exactly like Venom) She takes over Serenity's quirk, her control, and her mind until there is nothing left but Ember. Sure, Serenity is still there but is pretty much unconscious right now. When she is 25 however…
Speaking about when she is 25 we learn that at the end of the day Serenity will turn into nothing but water. Which caused Hizashi to break down and collapse into Aizawa with tears. However, she does warn them about how the chains wont hold her when she turns 20 and that Serenity doesn't deserve to go through that pain, and that she is the only one that isn't like her ancestors and isn't trying to purposely hurt others.
She also revealed that Bakugo has sparked something in her that makes her stronger, and that he makes her forget about the pain she has been through and makes her life better. Though she asked him why he really sticks around her confusing Bakugo who says he sticks around because Aizawa is making him. However, at this point I don't think that's true anymore.
Ember not liking his answer, and not knowing what it could be either decides that she is tired and would rather sleep and let Serenity take over again. This pissed Bakugo off because he still had questions. He noticed that Serenity was back, but she told him that Ember wouldn't let her switch back and then passed out from exhaustion, scaring the fuck out of everyone. Bakugo put the fangs back on her while Hizashi and Aizawa were holding her up and seeing if she was ok.
Aizawa took her upstairs after that and Hizashi lead Bakugo to a guest room and lent him some of Aizawa's old clothes. Trying to fall asleep however, Bakugo wondered how he was giving Serenity a good life if she would just die in the end. Let's find out now shall we
(sorry that this was long review but that was a lot of important information so yeah)
Chapter 14-Cursed Dreams
(Serenity's point of view)
I was surrounded by water, exhausted, and barley keeping my head above the water. I had my hair instead of a fin, but half of my arms and legs were covered in scales (look at the cover for the story). I was trying to keep my head above the water but, I also felt like I had no energy left. Slowly I sank into the water, holding my breath. Not wanting to give up, not wanting to die.
I thrashed around slightly, desperately trying to claw my way back up, but I kept falling deeper instead. I screamed from the burning pain from my lungs and throat. Filling them up with water, and then made it worse by breathing in more water. My body started to spasm slightly and my vision was darkening slightly. The pain was fading, and I closed my eyes and heard a familiar saying.
Since you think you're so high and mighty
and think you can step on me
Let's see how you like it
How far will you fall in this pit
Till you learn you lesson
and how to count your blessings
You will get an early invitation
To uncontrollable devastation
For every single generation
You'll only have 25 years
To learn to fight your fears
and until you truly visit me
with the ability to see
the truth of what life can be
only then will your soul be free.
I opened my eyes again, to hazel ones glaring back at me. I was still under the water, unable to breath, and unable to speak so, I couldn't ask who they were. The pain was still evident but bearable at least.
"17 almost 18. What do you think of this curse so far child? Have you figured out what you must do to solve this yet?"
I stared at them for a moment. Its death, right? That's my fate because you died right? He started laughing
"Just cause I'm dead doesn't mean you cant do the right thing.'
I'm guessing you want an apology, then right. Please I am so sorry for what my ancestors did, I don't want to suffer this anymore I beg of you, please take this away. I don't want to hurt anyone, and even though I am not afraid of it, I don't want to die.
"Apology denied."
What? Why?
"Because you haven't learned anything. You may be nice, and you may not hurt anyone on purpose, but you are still selfish just like your ancestors, and you do not know anything. I am pleased to hear you beg and its nice to know you don't like hurting others, but you still have no idea."
Then could you tell me? Please?
He scoffed at me and then slapped me for thinking that.
"Clearly you deserve this. I have already told you everything, but you still see nothing. I will enjoy seeing you in hell child."
He started to leave and head for the surface and the pain of drowning came back. I started to reach for him desperately, but I kept sinking deeper and deeper and he started to disappear
No please. I'll do anything, ANYTHING! I DON'T WANT TO KILL MY FAMILY! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!
(Bakugo's point of view)
I sat up straight as I heard a scream from a room down the hall from mine. It was Serenity. I got out of bed as I heard her start gasping suddenly. I ran from the room I was staying into what I believed was hers and was greeted by Hizashi and Aizawa who must have heard her as well. They both looked at me shocked for a moment but before anything was said I opened the door.
However, I froze as I saw her. She was struggling to move because of the venom she had to take earlier. She had tears streaming down her face, and her eyes closed but she looked like she was in so much pain. Her body was also covered in sweat. Hizashi went to get her some ice and Aizawa removed the blankets from her revealing her in a black tank top and orange camo capri sweats.
Aizawa Sensei went to try and wake her up, but she wasn't able to. I was frozen still watching her, not knowing what I could do. Was this part of the curse? Was this the venom? Or was she just having a bad dream? DAMMIT WHAT DO I DO?
"I am so sorry." She suddenly said breaking me from my thoughts for a second. Was she awake?
"Serenity wake up honey, what are you sorry about? Come one wake up." Aizawa said as Hizashi came back with some ice packs handing some to me.
"We have to cool her off." Was all he said and I just nodded and went and helped put icepacks on her. She was still asleep and she started thrashing slightly, and crying more
"No please." She said and mumbled something else I couldn't understand through her sobs.
"Sweetheart wake up please. It's okay were here. Even Bakugo." Hizashi said looking at her with concern
"I DON'T WANT TO DIE! PLEASE NO!" I froze at hearing that. She was dreaming something terrible about her life. Does this girl ever get a break? She suddenly sat up and reached her an arm out grabbing me by accident. Her eyes were opened but she wasn't awake fully yet as she still screamed no but to my surprise, I hugged her head like I had done so many times today.
"Calm down lizard. Its okay, you're not dying. It was just a dream." I said trying to calm her down to which she shook her head violently.
"NO! NO IT WASN'T I SAW HIM!" She yelled/sobbed out.
"Him?" I asked
"Who's him sweetheart?" Hizashi also asked and Aizawa was curious as well since he quirked an eyebrow.
"T-the man w-who *hic* created the-the curse." So that's why she was apologizing. But why was she screaming she didn't want to die?
"Did he hurt you?" She shook her head
"Then why were you screaming about dying?"
"He d-denied m-my *hic* apology."
"What?" All of us said together.
"Why?" Aizawa Sensei asked
"B-because, I apparently don't *hic* don't know *hic* anything. What am I *hic* suppose to learn though?" She sobbed against me, and I moved back and cupped her cheeks.
"What else is there about the curse that you know?" I asked looking into her eyes.
"I've told you pretty much everything."
"Except for that poem." Hizashi chimed in.
"What poem?" I asked sternly. She looked at me reluctant to bring it up.
"Its what her curse is, just basically in a poem form. There isn't anything else we haven't told you really other than maybe a few things that we are all still learning as her curse adapts itself." Aizawa replied
"So why not tell me?" I asked getting irritated glaring at him. Lizard grabbed my hands and moved them away from her.
"Because it doesn't change anything." She said and looked down before she could see my glare transfer to her.
"I still want to know it. I want to know what the hell is going on with you idiot. That's why you brought me here anyways isn't it? To tell me everything." I said sternly and she looked up at me shocked for a second and then sighed
"Since you think you're so high and mighty

"Do you have this in writing?" She nodded and pointed to her desk
"Its in my journal. First page." I walked over and saw it right away since it was the only thing on her desk next to a mug full of pens and pencils. I opened the book and tore out the page.
"I'm gonna break this down when we are back at the dorms. See if there is anything, I can figure out about this that we don't know." Everyone looked at me shocked
"Why?" lizard asked
"What do you mean why? I want to help you!" I snapped back at her.
"Why do you want to help me though? I told you all this so you knew what you were getting into not so that you could help prepare me to die!" She snapped back
"WELL THEN WHAT DID YOU EXPECT ME TO DO?" She looked at me shocked
"I-I don't know."
"Tch. You're a dumbass for thinking a hero wouldn't do anything." I snapped slightly. She just stared at me for a moment and then let out a huff.
"What?" I asked irritated
"You said the same thing almost when this all started." I looked at her and thought back to that day in the hallway outside of recovery girls office and smirked slightly.
"Then you slapped me after I said that." I said glaring at her slightly causing her parents to look at her.
"Serenity?!" They both snapped making her jump
"It's alright, I got her back earlier anyways." She looked at me dumbfounded for a moment
"When did you slap me?"
"Technically I slapped Ember, but you and her are one in the same so it counts." She glared at me and I held in a laugh. I'm glad she is starting to act like the lizard I know again. I don't like seeing that broken look on her. She sighed and turned to Aizawa.
"Papa Aizawa I thought you said the dose would last me the night." She said changing the subject
"I did, but I wasn't expecting you to sweat it off like you did." She groaned at that
"No wonder why I feel like shit."
"Serenity." Both her parents said while glaring at her
"What? Since when am I not allowed to say that one?"
"You're not supposed to curse in the house." Hizashi sensei said causing me to laugh, and her to glare at me.
"You cant curse here either idiot." She snapped slightly.
"Like hell you're gonna tell me what to do." I snapped back. She smirked at me and I couldn't help but smirk back.
"Damn idiot."
"Fucking Lizard."
"BOTH OF YOU GO TO YOUR ROOMS!" Hizashi boomed causing the lizard and I to laugh slightly as well as Aizawa.
"Papa Hizashi were in my room."
"Plus, Hizashi dear, you wont get Bakugo to speak well. However, Serenity." He glared at her and then flicked her forehead causing her to shut her squeeze her eyes shut.
"Why does that hurt whenever you do that Papa." She whined while rubbing her forehead, making Aizawa smirk
"Because it works." She groaned at that comment and I just laughed
"Fine I wont curse. Sorry for doing so in the first place." She said
"Bakugo you should go back to your room though since everything is settled here." Aizawa sensei said and I nodded. Hopefully I could get some sleep tonight.
