We had just arrived at the Time Bureau after capturing a mummy. He looked more like a stereotypical mummy rather than Imhotep.
"I can't believe you captured a mummy." Charlie remarked.
"I can. This guy is as slow as molasses." I responded. "It seems like this is super easy now that Neron is gone."
"You probably shouldn't jinx it, Babe." Ava declared. Okay, maybe that was true, but it was still a lot easier than I thought it would be. Things were going really well, but I did know that they could change rather suddenly. Still, it was probably worth being a little optimistic.
"I wouldn't mind it if we could just take a break for a little while." I said. I probably definitely shouldn't have said that. Now, we would probably have some kind of mission. I just wished that we could have some kind of break every now and then. Sure enough, my phone then rang. "Hello, Gideon."
She didn't like it when I got snippy with her.
"Captain, there's been a recent change to the timestream." She declared. "There were reports of a monster at the Stonewall Inn in 1969. The LGBT people were blamed for it leading to much less acceptance of homosexual rights."
And the event was happening at a bar. There was one big problem with that. Ava and I wouldn't be allowed inside. We would have to meet with the team and come up with a solution.
"Alright, looks like we're going back to the ship." I announced. I was annoyed that this would be a mission that I wouldn't be able to take part in, especially since it was something that I felt so strongly about. I was also beginning to think that there would be no solution in fixing our age problem. I would have to go through puberty again. That is going to suck. We went through a portal. "Gideon, assemble the team."
Soon, everyone was together on the ship, except for one person.
"Where's Rory?" I asked.
"He was going to a book convention with Gary." Zari declared. "Apparently, his books are huge sellers and they were going to try to give him an award, if he decides to reveal his identity that is."
I never would have pegged him for a best-selling author but there were a lot of weird things that happened with us on the ship.
"What are we doing here?" Charlie asked.
"Gideon has detected a monster attack during the Stonewall Protests of 1969." I explained. "Unfortunately, because it is a bar, Ava and I won't be allowed inside. So, we're going to need someone else to pose as a couple for this. How about John and Ray?"
"I would but I have a girlfriend now. I need to go see her." Ray remarked before he left suddenly.
"How about Charlie and Zari?" I questioned.
"I would do it, but I'm mortal now and I don't feel like risking my life for that." Charlie declared.
"I could just go with Zari and we could say that we are both bisexual." Nate offered.
"I don't think that would work very well. The relations between gays and bisexuals haven't always been good." I remarked. "It would be easier if you were a woman."
"I can do that.' John replied.
"I don't think that's such a good idea. Look what happened last time we trusted you with a transformation." Nate pointed out as he gestured to Ava and I. I couldn't help but blush. He didn't need to point to us. We all knew it without him doing that.
"Oh, sex-changing spells are a lot easier." John declared. Why is it easier to change someone's sex than age? I mean you're adding and subtracting different parts. "And to make it even easier. I can turn you into your celebrity crush. So, what's it gonna be?"
"I guess I can do that." Nate responded. "Can you turn me into Megan Fox?"
Megan Fox was a good one, Seeing her in Transformers was the first time I felt an attraction to girls.
John began to cast a spell on him and there was a bright flash. When we opened our eyes, there was Megan Fox in front of us.
"This feels weird." Nate remarked in her voice.
"Now there is something that you should know lest you have any dirty thoughts about that." John replied. "Experiencing an orgasm could make things harder to reverse."
"Is there anything else that cause things to mess up." Nate asked with a bright blush. I was blushing as well
"Just heart or lung failure, but you shouldn't have to worry about those." John stated. I had a bad feeling about that. "Now, let's get you two lovebirds together and we can go to one of the cornerstones of the gay rights movement."
I didn't expect him to want to go with, but it may had had something to with the fact that Desmond had rejected him and he was looking for someone to hook up with, even though I didn't think he would have time for that.
"So, what are we going to do?" Ava asked me. You know, I hadn't actually thought of that.
"We can go to…" I started as I struggled to find an answer. I then thought of something. "That book convention that Mick is at. It would be a great place to find some books and also make sure that he doesn't do anything stupid as well.
"He does have a history of doing stupid things." She commented. He was still a valuable member of the team. "And I guess it could be fun."
At that point, the two of us went through a portal to the convention center where the convention was being held. I had never been to a book convention before, so I didn't know what to expect.
The first thing that I noticed was that there was a lot of woman there. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised considering the fact that it was a romance novel convention. I was probably too young for romance novels.
"Hey, John Green is here." Ava remarked.
'Who is John Green?" I questioned.
"He's the guy that wrote The Fault in Our Stars, Waiting for Alaska, and Paper Towns." She explained.
"Isn't one of those the cancer kid movie?" I replied. I vaguely remembered hearing about that. It was really only out for a few months before I died.
"Yeah, but's also a great story of teen romance." She replied. "I want to meet him. It would be so cool."
"We should probably focus on finding Mick first." I told her, before noticing that she had already run off.
I found Mick right after I found her.
"What are you brats doing here?" He questioned.
"The latest mission involves going to a bar and since we can't go there. We're here to hang out with you." Ava replied. "I can't believe that I'm here right now. I get to meet John Green."
"So, are you going to tell the world who you are?" I asked. I wanted to stay close to Ava so I didn't lose her. I hadn't seen her so exciting since she went to Disney.
Another thing that I noticed was that I couldn't help but feel that something was off with Ray. I also didn't know that he and Nora had made things official. I knew that they had slept together under the influence of that Indian love god, but I didn't know if they were actually together. It was nice that he had found someone. I knew that he and Felicity were briefly a thing, but Nora was probably his first real girlfriend since Anna, even if she is the daughter of the man who killed my sister.
I wasn't the biggest fan of books. I never had been. Ava had been trying to get me to read more. It might have had to do with the fact that it was easy for me to get distracted when reading. It's hard for me to read the words when I don't have sound to go with it. I knew that audiobooks existed, but that didn't really count as ready. Maybe I just needed to find something that I would like. There had to be something that I would like. I would just have to find it.
One of the main things that I heard around the room was that there were rumors that Rebecca Silver was in the building. That led to multiple people whispering about who she was. If they only knew about it. Eventually, the whispering got louder and they called to give the award.
"Enough.' Mick interrupted. "I am Rebecca Silver."
Honestly, it made sense that he would use a penname. Not only was he writing in a genre mainly filled with woman authors, but he was also ex-con and it might be harder to sell his books with people knowing that beforehand.
After that, I realized that I was receiving a call from the ship.
"So, we stopped the monster, which was a gryphon and also managed to get some sort of golden egg." Nate told me. He was still a woman.
"So, why are you still a woman then?" I questioned.
"Well, John ended up getting really drunk and he also got punched, so he's kind of out cold right now." She responded. It was easier to do that at the moment. "I'll have to wait until he wakes up to turn back."
"You might as well come back and we can take the gryphon and the egg to the Time Bureau then." I replied.
"Will do, Captain." She stated.
We then left the convention and headed back to the Time Bureau. Ava went with Zari and Charlie to deal with the Gryphon. It was then that I got a message from Ray.
"Guys, we have a problem." He declared. I wondered if he was going to tell why he had been acting so weird. "Neron is inside of me."
Oh…that was not good. That was a million times not good. The good news was that we could probably get him out again.
We found Ray near the bathroom. We would be able to drop him. I knew that we would. We could probably use some backup. It was too bad that John was unconscious and I didn't have any way to contact Nora.
"Why is Megan Fox here?" Ray asked as he held his hand weirdly. It was trembling.
"That's because she's Nate. It's a long story." I explained. At that point, Neron seemed to gain control of his body.
However, we quickly found that we were outmatched. Neron could use magic while in Ray's body apparently. Nate got knocked to the ground and wasn't moving.
"Stop, don't hurt Nate. I'll do whatever you want if you heal him and let him live." Ray declared. That was not a smart decision. At that point, Ray disappeared and Nate woke up.
"What happened?" She asked me.
"He's gone." I declared. "We should get back to the ship and we can work on finding him later. Let's get you changed back."
We headed back to the ship and waited for John to awaken.
"I can't believe Neron took control of Ray. I never should have involved you lot in this mess." John declared.
"Hey, let's deal with the situation at hand right now and then we can find a way to get Neron out of Ray." I told him.
"Right. Let's restore your manhood." He said to Nate. He began to cast the spell…only for it to do nothing.
"Why isn't it working?" Nate asked. I wanted to know that as well. It was then that I was hit with the answer.
"I think Neron might have managed to stop your heart," I stated.
"Well that's not good. If you're brought back from death or the brink of death while under the influence of a spell, it becomes permanent." John replied.
So Nate got turned into a woman, but more importantly, Neron is in total control of Ray now. Also Nate and Zari might happen after all, or should we say Natalie? Please don't forget to review.
