Chapter 15: Bandit's Birthday Part 1
10 years later...
Thomas heard hard knocking at his door. Thomas groaned as he got up from his couch and walked over to the door. Thomas opened the door and saw his younger sister Bluey at the door. "Bluey? What time is it?" Thomas yawned looking at his watch. "It's noon you jerk!" Bluey said as he pushed Thomas to the side and walked into his apartment. "It's so gross in here you need to clean up," Bluey said crossing her arms. "Calm down Bluey, what are you even doing here?" Thomas asked shutting his door. "It's dads birthday you need to come see him," Bluey said looking to her brother. "You couldn't have called me for this?" Thomas asked rudely.
"Your 26 years old! You don't call or text us anymore! Did you even know Bingo won her first Soccer game last week?" Bluey said now angry with her brother. "Does Bandit know you here?" Thomas asked. "It's dad you jerk!" Bluey shouted with tears in her eyes. "I think you should go Bluey," Thomas said opening the door for his sister. "No! Not until you talk to dad!" Bluey shouted again.
(Present day)
"Hey Thomas did you get that math homework done?" Alfie asked. Thomas was in a day dream until Alfie shook him. "Huh? Oh yeah I got it done," Thomas replied still not all there. "Something the matter Thomas?" Alfie asked while checking over Thomas's homework. "Yeah, it's just.. it's my dads birthday and I don't know what to get him," Thomas said with a low sigh. "Oh, I get that," Alfie said before handing Thomas his homework back. "Alfie! Your mum's here!" Bingo said rushing in Thomas's room. "Thanks Bingo!" Alfie said with a smile. Bingo nodded before skipping out of Thomas's room to go find Bluey. "See ya at school mate!" Alfie said waving his friend goodbye. Thomas waved back as Alfie shut the door. Thomas sighed as he laid back in his bed.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. "Sweetheart are you okay?" Chilli asked her stepson as she walked into his room. "Yeah, I'm just a little stressed," Thomas said sitting. "Uh oh no child of mine shall be stressed, what's on your mind mate?" Chilli asked sitting on her stepson's bed. "What do I get dad for his birthday? I mean the last time I gave him a present was a drawing of us together with dad having a fat head!" Thomas said worried. Chilli couldn't help but to chuckle a bit of her stepson's humor. "Well he doesn't get home for a few hours since him being out in the field for work so you have time honey," Chilli said with a reassuring smile. "Mum! Bingo got her hand stuck in the peanut butter jar again!" Bluey called from the kitchen. Chilli sighed as she stood up from the bed. "Why don't you go to his office and see if anything will spark an interest for a present," Chilli said before leaving the room.
"thanks mom," Thomas said with a nod. Thomas looked out his window and saw Lucky's dad drinking his coffee. "Maybe Pat has some answers about dad," Thomas said encouraging himself to go outside. Thomas then left the room and walked over to the fence to see Lucky's dad. "Hey Pat," Thomas said while walking up to the fence. Pat looked up and smiled as Bandits son walked up the fence. "Hey there Thomas! What can I help you with?" Pat asked before taking a drink of his coffee. "Well today's my dads birthday and well I'm struggling to find him something for his birthday got any ideas?" Thomas asked. "I see, well you could always check his office to find something of a spark," Pat answered.
"That's what my mom said!" Thomas said
Pat chuckled "then maybe you should listen to her mate, but if I have to guess something about your dad he's a music lover he was in a band you know," Pat added before taking a drink of his coffee. Thomas had remembered his dad telling him about being in a band. "Alright I'll give it a shot, thank Pat," Thomas said before taking off to his dads office. "Not a problem mate!" Pat said waving goodbye. "It really stuck in there," Chilli said trying to get her daughter unstuck from the peanut butter jar. Thomas walked into the house and went straight to his dads office. "Did you find something sweetheart?" Chilli asked noticing Thomas walking by. "Not yet mom! I'll let you know when I find it!" Thomas said as he opened the door to his dads office. "Okay! Let me know if you need some help!" Chilli called back still struggling to get the jar of Bingo's hand.
As Thomas walked into his dad's office. Thomas looked around but found nothing but archaeologic stuff. "Boring, this is what school is for," Thomas said as he kept looking. Thomas then moved to the closest and opened it. "Huh he really was in a band," Thomas said as he looked down at some old albums. "Custard? He Couldn't have picked a better name or something," Thomas said looking through his dads old stuff. "Huh what's this?" Thomas asked himself. Thomas found a box of unfinished songs. "Come to Thomas Heeler," Thomas said as he grabbed the box. "Give you what you want, Believe In Me, Rude Hours?" Thomas said as he started reading the song lyrics to Rude Hours. "Oh god dad!" Thomas said putting that song down. Thomas blushed a bit thinking about the song "Rude Hours" "next song," Thomas said as he looked through more songs.
"Anyone" Thomas said reading the lyrics. "Perfect," Thomas said as he grabbed the song out of the box and shut the closet door. Thomas then raced to his room to use his computer to make music to his dads old song. Chilli had finally got Bingo's hand out of the jar until she heard the door bell ring. "Well kids that should be your uncles and aunt and your cousins," Chilli said with a smile. Thomas then ran inside his room and shut the door. Thomas quickly puts on some headphones and starts getting to hurt on his dads unfinished son.
"Where's the prodigal son?" Rad asked after bringing in some food from his truck "He's in his room," Chilli said while making some punch. Rad nodded as he walks over to Thomas's room. Rad was about to open knock on the door until he heard some singing. " That you are the only one I'll ever love (Only one) (I gotta tell ya, gotta tell ya)
Yeah, you, if it's not you, it's not anyone
(I gotta tell ya, gotta tell ya)" Rad heard Thomas singing one of Bandits old songs from his band days. Rad felt goosebumps under his fur hearing his nephew sing. Stripe was passing by until he was stop by his older brother. "Stripe come over here," Rad said.
Bandit came over to the door and didn't hear anything. "What?" Stripe asked. Thomas from the inside of his room finished recording the son and then took off the headphones and played it on his speakers but low so he wouldn't spoil the surprise for his father. As Thomas played the song Stripe and Rad pressed their ears against the door and heard the whole song. "Is that Bandit's old song? Turned into a modern pop song?" Stripe whispered to Rad. "Yeah mate, I think he wrote that about Emily," Rad whispered. "What are you guys doing?" Chilli asked a little loudly. "Shh.." both Stripe and Rad shushed. Thomas then stopped the song and walked over to his door hearing something on the other side of his door.
Thomas then opened the door and made Stripe and Rad fall into his room. "Hey guys what we're you doing?" Thomas asked looking down at his uncles. "That's what I was wondering," Chilli said as she crossed her arms looking at her two brother in laws. "Eh er we were..." Rad tried to get the words out as he and Stripe got up from the floor. "Give it up mate, we got caught," Stripe said looking at Rad. "Alright mate we heard the song you recorded for you dad," Rad said rubbing the back of his neck. "A song huh I want to hear!" Chilli said now excited. "But... it was Emily's song," Stripe added. "Oh no..." Thomas said cover his eyes and then shutting the door. "I got this," Chilli said as she entered the room. "Thomas honey?" Chilli said coming into his room and shutting the door behind her.
"I'm sorry mom I didn't mean to record a song that was meant for my mom," Thomas said sitting at his desk. Chilli chuckled. "I'm sure your father will love it," Chilli said sitting down at her sons bed. "But I don't want it to hurt your feelings," Thomas said looking to Chilli. Chilli only smiled. "Sweetheart your mom was your dad's first love of course he felt that way about her," Chilli explained. "Well at least I didn't pick Rude Hours to record," Thomas said playing in his office chair. That made Chilli's eyes widen and she blushed under her fur. "Uh well now that one is um about me," Chilli said feeling her face hot from embarrassment. Thomas's jaw dropped. "Oh! Gross!" Thomas shouted. Chilli couldn't help but to laugh.
"But really show me the song you recorded for your dad," Chilli insisted. Thomas then nodded as he play the song on his laptop. It was a three minute song and after the song was done Chilli couldn't help but to have some tears run down her muzzle. "Your dad is going to love it," Chilli said wiping her tears away. "Thanks mom," Thomas said with a smile. Stripe and Rad still listening in from behind the door were startled once Chilli walked out of the room. "Well come on boys this party isn't going to make itself," Chilli said as she walked passed both Rad and Stripe. "Yeah come on guys," Thomas said walking past his uncles. "Guess that was easy," Rad said looking to his younger brother.
10 years later...
"You need to talk to dad! it's his birthday after all!" Bluey shouted. "You know why I can't!" Thomas shouted back. Bluey then couldn't hold back the tears any longer. "Then forget you then," Bluey said with a crack in her voice from on the verge of bawling her eyes out. "Bluey wait," Thomas said trying to stop his sister. "Don't touch me! don't ever touch me! I hate you!" Bluey shouted now in the hallway of the apartment. "You know what Bluey! Your 17 years old grow up!" Thomas shouted trying to hurt her feelings even further as Bluey was trying to walk down the hall. Bluey then stopped herself in her tracks and turned and looked at her brother and walked back to him. "No Thomas! Your 26 years old you grow up!" Bluey shouted with streams tears running down her muzzle and with that she was gone.
