Here's Chapter 13: Breaking Point

Please enjoy.

"What's with you Soul?"

"Hm?"

Maka bumped his foot with hers lowering the book she had in her hands for a moment.

"You've been a bit mopey. Not that I mind the peace and quiet." She jested. Soul huffed a laugh and sat up a bit.

"yeah, I bet after that one night-"

"We never speak of that night." She cut him off hand ready in a Maka chop.

"R-right." He acquiesced. "Anyway, I've been thinking about Liz, Patty and Kid."

Maka hummed in agreement. "yeah, I think those three are at a tough time."

"I just hope they'll be OK. I can't imagine Liz and Patty not being here." He closed his eyes and thought back on all their triumphs together, their time spent getting stronger growing and even getting into trouble in the town. They felt like family, a family he could call his own.

Maka leaned into his side in comfort open her book back up once more. "I know, but don't worry, they'll sort it out. Even if they don't, we'll be there to help them." She said peeking up at him with a smile.

For once he decided not to break the moment with a rude comment or joke. He leaned into her comfort, "yep. That'd be the cool thing to do."

Liz opened the door and walked in. Kid sat on the couch idly with Patty on the other adjacent sofa lying on her stomach. They both looked up at her entering and smiled.

"Glad you're back. I needed to discuss something with-"

"I'm leaving." She interrupted him and he stopped short tripped up. Funny, the words slipped out by accident but they had come so easily with less pain than she thought.

"What?" Kid said quietly and Patty slowly sat up.

"I talked about it before. Remember? We said after we did probation we would leave." Liz continued her thoughts on a roll. That's right. She was never meant to be stuck in this town. Never meant to just sit here like two trophies. They are the Thompson Sisters. Feared. She tightened her hands into fists.

"We got dragged here against our will in the first place. In a years time you won't even need weapons. Soul is already a death scythe and training with Lord Shinigami there's talk about you paring up with him in order to start your training. It's time to move on."

Kid sat very still his gold eyes blank and face unreadable.

"Sis-"

"So, we're leaving."

"Liz!" Patty yelled.

"What?" Liz snapped back.

Patty watched her carefully for a moment. Her sister's expression one of anger and malice. It reminded Patty of the old days.

"Patty let's go." Liz grounded out.

"No." Patty said slowly shaking her head. She looked deathly serious an expression normally reserved for her hand to hand fights.

Liz grit her teeth feeling the blow of those words but shook it off. They only worked to fule her anger.

"Fine then." She said quietly. She'd be alone after all.

"Liz! Stop!" Kid yelled. She ignored him and slammed the door closed. It took her brisk walk down the street to realize she hadn't even packed any of her stuff.
