Epilogue
May, 5th 2009
"Happy Birthday!" Screams woken up Rachel early in the morning
She was ready to be mad but soon after she opened up her eyes she found Ross, Emma, Emmery, and Ben were standing in front of the bed and smiling at her as they sang her a happy birthday song. Their seven years old daughter, Emma was holding a cake with candles in the shape of the number '40' representing Rachel's age in her hands, while their youngest, their four year old son, Emmery, immediately ran into her and hugged her lovingly. Their son, fourteen years old Ben was smiling and standing there holding a bouquet of white Lilies. Ross was smiling brightly with a party hat on his head that their son, Emmery, forced him to wear.
"Quick! Make a wish and blow the candles!" Emma yelled in joy
Rachel then closed her eyes, made a wish, then she blew the candles.
They all cheered in unison.
"Happy birthday mommy! I looooveee you soooo muccchhh..." Emmery said then gave her tons of kisses
"Aww.. honey... Mommy loves you sooo much too." Rachel said as she smiled at him and gave him a hug
"Happy birthday, mommy!" Emma put the cake down and joined them in a hug
"Happy birthday mom!" Ben also joined them in a hug
"Happy birthday, honey." Ross gave her a kiss in her forehead.
"Come here, daddy!" Emmery told her dad to join them for a hug
Ross then quickly joined them in a hug.
"Oh my gosh. I love you guys so much." Rachel said as her eyes started to become red and teary.
"Mommy, why are you crying?" Emmery wiped his mom's tears as he asked her worriedly
"Oh honey, this is happy tears." She explained to him while smiling
"See! I told you daddy. Mommy is not going to be sad on her birthday." Emma said to her dad
Ross shrugged
"Well, I guess you're right, sweetie. I honestly thought your mom was gonna cry as soon as she saw the number on the cake." He explained
"Come here you." Rachel told Ross to come as she opened her arms widely allowing him to hug her.
She then looked at him in the eyes, "Do you know why I'm not sad when I realized I turned 40 today?" Rachel asked
"No. I honestly don't" He slightly chuckled
"Because of you. Because I have all of you as my family. And the idea of growing old with you, how can I be sad about it? I'm a wife and a mother of three wonderful kids. I cannot be happier." She smiled at him
"Well, I don't think so." Ross raised his eyebrows
"What do you mean?" Rachel was puzzled by his words
"I mean, I think this will make you a lot happier. Like A LOT." Ross handed her a white envelope
"What is this?" Rachel asked
"Open it." Ross grinned
Rachel opened the white envelope and immediately gasped when she found five airplane tickets to Bali, Indonesia.
"Is this for real?" She asked him, disbelief
"Well, it has to be real. Or else they just charged my credit card for nothing." He chuckled
"Ross. But this must cost you a lot."
"Well, it's our first overseas family trip together since Emmery was born. So I figured, why don't we go somewhere far? So, do you like it?" He hesitated
"Like it? I love it! Thank you so much." She then gave him a kiss in his lips.
"Ewwww!" Their three kids screamed in unison
"Alright. Alright." They both chuckled
"We're going to Bali!" Rachel screamed in joy
...
A few weeks later
I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, Indonesia
"I cannot believe we're here!" Rachel screamed in joy.
"Well, this one is certainly enjoying Bali already." Ross refer to Emmery who was sleeping on his shoulder
They both chuckled
"So, mommy, when are we going to the beach?" Emma asked
"Yeah! I kinda want to learn how to surf." Ben added
"Well, I'm sure we could use some sleep first." Rachel answered
"Noooooo!" Emma yelled
"Emma, what did I tell you about not screaming at your mother?" Ross said seriously
"Alright, I'm sorry mommy." She looked down, feeling guilty
"Alright, let's get a cab and get back to our villa. I need some sleep." Rachel suggested
They all took a cab to their villa in Ubud. It took them a few hours to reach it from the airport. The kids were asleep and so were Rachel and Ross. After nearly two hours, they arrived at their villa. It was a private three bedroom, two bath, and a private pool villa. The villa is decorated in tropical and balinese furnitures with an amazing view of the surrounding area. Surrounding them was a dense forest that gave them both privacy and serenity.
"Wow, this is so beautiful." Rachel was in an awe as soon as she entered the house.
"Thank you so much." Rachel walked toward Ross and gave him a kiss.
"I'm sure you can return the favor.."
He then leaned toward her ear and whispered "Tonight."
He gently kissed her neck.
She quickly blushed and then lightly slapped his chest.
"Mommy! Can we to the beach now?" Their four years old son disturbed them as he grabbed Rachel's shirt.
"We're going to the beach tomorrow morning. It's kinda far from here, besides it's going to be dark soon." Ross explained.
"What about we go swimming instead? We have a private pool." Ben suggested.
"I want to swim, daddy!" Emma yelled excitedly.
"Can we go swim, mommy? Please.." Emmery begged at his mom.
"Are you sure you're not tired? Mommy is kinda tired. How about we sleep for a bit then we swim right after?" Rachel bent down and tried to convince her son
"Nooo! I want to swim, now!" He pouted and crossed his arms
Rachel bit her lips, ready to give her son a scolding, but then Ross stopped her.
"Alright, let's go." Ross quickly said
"No, you're also tired. Let's sleep first." Rachel said
"It's okay. I think I could use some swimming, it's HOT in here." Ross explained
"Alright, then. You guys can swim with your daddy." Rachel said
"Yayyyy!" Emma and Emmery screamed in unison.
"Let me help you change your clothes, little buddy." Ben held Emmery's hand and helped him change.
Emma also went to her room and changed into her swimming suit.
"Is it okay if I take a shower and sleep for a bit?" Rachel asked as she walked closer to Ross.
"Sure. I'm pretty sure I can handle a teenage boy, a kid, and a toddler just fine." He smiled and gently caressed her cheeks.
"Thank you so much." She looked at him in the eyes and then leaned in to give him a kiss.
Ben, Emma, and Emmery emerged from their room.
"Alright who's ready to swim?!" Ross yelled excitedly as he picked Emmery up.
"MEEE!" Emmery screamed in joy.
Ross, Ben, Emma, and Emmery were swimming in the pool, enjoying their afternoon. Ross was keeping an eye on Emmery who hasn't learned how to swim yet. While Emma and Ben were playfully splashing each other and giggling. Sometimes Ben would pick Emma up and then toss her in the water, earning him a quick glare from his little sister. Soon after, they were both splashing and yelling at each other intensely. Rachel woke up by the screaming and yelling she heard. She then walked out to the pool and rested her shoulder into the door as she smiled, watching her family playing in the pool.
It is one of the moments she really enjoyed these days. Watching her family laughing and playing together is what she really wished for. Sure, they're not a perfect family. Their path wasn't smooth either, but in the end it is all worth it. She got the family she could ever ask for, the family that just got more perfect after she gave birth to their son, Emmery four years ago. She was smiling brightly as she reminisced about their past.
A cold water snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Come on mommy, join us!" Emma yelled at her.
"Come on!" Ben playfully splashed more water into her
"Hey!" She quickly flinched as the cold water touched her skin.
"I don't feel like swimming." She insisted and went back inside the house
"Daddy, do something!" Emma asked Ross for a help
"Alright, could you keep an eye on your brother?" Ross asked Ben
"Sure." Ben nodded
Ross then got off from the pool and walked inside the house where she found Rachel was drinking a glass of water in the kitchen. He then hugged her from behind which made her flinched.
"O my gosh, Ross. You scared me! And look! Now I'm wet." She snapped
"Ah, come ooonnn.. Now that you're wet, let's swim." Ross whined
"No.. I don't feel like swimming." She insisted
Ross then turned her around so he could see her face then he grinned wickedly.
"What?" She raised her eyebrows
"Well, if you keep insisting. I have no choice." He winked and sweep her off from her feet.
Rachel was startled and quickly squealed
"Ross! Put me don't." She lightly hit his chest
Instead of putting her down, Ross hurried to the pool.
"Ross, I swear if you're not putting me down righ-"
Before she could finish her words, Ross tossed her into the water.
A giant splashed startled all of them. The kids were screaming in joy but Rachel was clearly unamused and gave him a glare. Ross then playfully stuck his tongue out at her.
"Oh, you're so gonna pay for this." Rachel smirked
"Alright kids, let's go get your dad a revenge." Rachel said
"Yayyy!" Emma screamed in joy
Ross was about to run back inside the house when Rachel got off the pool and held his body with her arms. Ben, Emmery, and Emma joined her and they all tossed Ross inside the pool and smiled wickedly.
"Now, we're even." Rachel said proudly
Rachel then felt a push on her back and suddenly she lost all her balance and fell into the pool. As soon as she opened her eyes and caught a breath she found Ben, Emmery, and Emma were laughing at her.
"Look at you mommy!" Emma teased her and quickly turned into her brothers and gave them each a high five.
"We did it!" Ben yelled and gave them a hug.
"Look at that. They're clearly yours." Rachel said to Ross.
They both chuckled and their eyes met.
"I love you so much." Rachel whispered
"I love you so much." Ross whispered and then he kissed her passionately.
Their kiss was interrupted when they heard a screaming.
"IN COMING!" Ben screamed and jumped inside the pool.
Emma then followed her big brother and jumped inside the pool.
Their youngest, Emmery was standing on the edge of the pool and hesitated.
Ross then quickly walked in front of him and helped him.
"Come on buddy. Jump! Daddy will catch you, don't worry." Ross reassured her son
"But, I'm scared." Emmery pouted
"It's okay honey. Daddy is going to catch you." Rachel said
"Come on little buddy! You can do it!" Ben cheered
"Come on Em!" Emma yelled
"Alright, promise you will catch me?" Emmery asked hesitantly to Ross
"I promise." Ross gave him a smile
"Okay." He mumbled
Emmery then closed his eyes and put one of his hands to cover his nose, then hesitantly jumped.
Ross quickly caught him and then helped him.
"See, there is nothing to be scared of." Ross said
"I'm so proud of you, sweetie." Rachel smiled proudly then gave her son a kiss.
