"Cadence and Everest." Beca said softly. Chloe smiled and nodded, holding onto Beca's hand. The two currently sat against the wall on the complete other side of where the glass door was. Beca leaning against Chloe as the redhead just played with her hand.
"Interesting names." Beca smiled. "Great kids." Chloe said softly. Beca looked at the redhead. The redhead chuckled, making Beca's brows raise. "What?" "We're probably going to be tortured or some shit but yet I honestly don't care." Chloe admitted.
Beca took her hand from Chloe's, making the redhead look at her. Chloe only smiled as Beca brought her hand to the redhead's face. "I love you." Beca said softly. The redhead blushed, looking down at her hands. Beca softly smiled at this. "Don't go shy on me now Beale." "Sorry." Chloe mumbled, looking back to the tiny brunette.
Beca placed a small kiss at Chloe's forehead. Chloe let out a content sigh while Beca looked around the room. "They could've been a bit more decent and put a bed in here." Beca chuckled at the redhead's comment. She let her head fall back against the wall, looking up at the ceiling just to notice a small red dot.
"Chlo." She said softly. "Hm?" "Lay down." Chloe looked at her with confusion but did as said. Beca looked down at the redhead as Chloe looked up at her. "Ceiling." Beca whispered. Chloe cleared her throat, looking up at the ceiling. It took her a moment, but she found it.
Chloe smiled, bringing a hand to Beca's face. "We'll be alright." She said softly. "Are you sure about that?" Beca asked quietly. Chloe nodded. Beca stared at her, making Chloe frown. "I… I left, and I was alone, unconscious for at least days until those kids found me. Then weeks it was just us three, then Jesse comes out of nowhere." The redhead laughed.
Beca weakly nodded. "Now I'm here with you. I have to believe we'll be okay." Chloe breathed.
Beca ran her hand through Chloe's hair, looking to the door across the room. "Don't do that." Chloe poked. "Hey." Beca slapped the redhead's hand away with furrowed brows. Chloe rolled her eyes at this. "They haven't come in here for what has to be two days. Why would they come in here if we haven't done anything?" She asked. Beca shook her head. Confusion hit the redhead when she noticed Beca was hiding something.
Chloe sat up, turning and looking at her best friend. "What is it?" "Nothing." Beca mumbled. The redhead then stood up, stepping away from the tiny brunette. Beca didn't even bother to move which alarmed Chloe even more.
Chloe's jaw clenched as she looked up to the ceiling as she could only guess the small little red dot the two saw was a small camera. "She's not going to say anything? You assholes must know right?!" She yelled with anger and desperation. When nothing happened, Chloe turned back just to find Beca standing up.
"They were killing Aubrey and Benji." The tiny brunette said quietly. Chloe shook her head. "I didn't know it was you. They didn't say how many." "I have kids!" Chloe snapped.
"I didn't think of that possibility! I made the hard call and I'd…" Beca stopped. Chloe's jaw clenched as the sound of hissing came to their ears. "I'd do it again." Beca shrugged.
Chloe's expression darkened at this and Beca took this as her queue to run back to her room and as she did so the glass door began to close. Just as she made it through, the glass shut and Chloe ran right into it only to slam a fist right against it.
"You listen right now Mitchell, if either of those kids have one single hair missing on there body that's on you!" Chloe pointed before nodding with a weak smile as a stray tear fell down her face. "And trust me, I love them more than I love you so I'll kill you." She breathed.
Beca stared at her before walking up to the glass. "That's the thing Chloe, everything I've seen them do so far, I've never seen them touch any kids." She said softly before a loud slam sounded.
Chloe looked across the room, finding Kacey pointing at her with two men stomping right at her.
"I won't forgive you for this Beca." She warned before she was grabbed. She didn't resist.
"I noticed a scar on your neck when I checked you for any bites and scratches." Kacey said as Chloe was now strapped down onto the table she was once in when she first woke up there. Chloe smiled tightly.
"Figured you wouldn't talk. Jesse talked like a little kid about to go to Disney World. Claimed that you were trying to steal his girlfriend. I knew you and Beca weren't just friends." Kacey said with furrowed brows. Chloe still didn't say anything as she just seemed to move a small bit to try and get as comfortable as she could.
"Although, considering the way she still let us take you like this… maybe you are." Kacey realized. "So, that scar isn't faint at all, there's no way a human can dig that deep. It's also really jagged."
The redhead still didn't budge. The petite woman obviously was not very happy with that as she turned to the small tray next to the table and grabbed a scalpel, slightly examining it as if she were still deciding to use it. After a moment a smile spread across her face and she put the scalpel down and pushed the tray aside just to walk around the table and to the counter at the corner of the room.
"If that scratch is from an infected, you've of course gone through unimaginable pain. A scalpel, hell, even a drill probably wouldn't live up to that. I've also noticed something when sending you and your little girlfriend food and water. Another thing in which Jesse told me." Kacey said, turning and looking at Chloe as she held the walkie talkie up that she had just grabbed.
"You don't drink water." She smirked. "Jacob, get me two jugs of water." She said into the walkie.
Chloe slightly faltered at this.
After a few minutes, the door opened and one of the men from earlier stepped in, placing the jugs down next to Kacey.
"Great, pick one of them up." The woman instructed.
Chloe shut her eyes tightly, taking a deep breath. She felt her mouth being forced open and tried to resist, bit it was no use because the moment it cracked open the smallest bit, she felt water hit her face and it spilled right into her mouth causing her to choke.
Kacey stepped back along with the man, also known as Jacob, both carefully watching Chloe. The first thing they noticed was the way she struggled to breathe.
"Stay back in case her blood is infectious." Kacey warned and the brunette nodded.
Suddenly violently coughter made the two jump, especially when blood followed that cough. "Fucking hell." Jacob said with wide eyes. Kacey slightly leaned forward, noticing Chloe's veins slightly turning black. "I'll be damned."
"What?" Jacob asked with confusion. "She just might be half infected. I'm not entirely sure yet, we'll have to do a little more testing but… I think we just might've found something that could save us." Kacey pointed.
"It looks like she's dying." Jacob pointed. "More tests." Kacey crossed her arms.
Chloe's eyes shut tight as she stumbled into a tree only to stop. She brought her hand to head. Flashes of memories crossed her mind, and not the good kind. The extremely loud sound of rushing water made her look up, just to find a small stream slowly crawling through the woods. Falling forward, she grabbed as much water as she could into her hands just to drink it.
Chloe's jaw clenched as Kacey stepped up. "Wanna talk instead?" The tall woman asked with a menacing smile. The redhead let out a breathy laugh. "You'll have to kill me first." She said shakily while blood fell from her nose and her lips.
Kacey's smile dropped with her eyes narrowing. She turned to Jacob who was currently holding a car battery in his hands. "This is a terrible idea." He said before placing it on the tray next to her. "Those monsters don't feel pain, she's refusing to show her's, I want to bring that monster out."
Chloe chuckled. "You think I'm a Rotter, you're the ones eating the dead." She smiled lazily, making Kacey look back at her. "We're being resourceful. It may be… very unsatisfying but we must adapt." Kacey said with furrowed brows before snapping her fingers.
Jacob quickly handed Kacey some jumper cables. Chloe looked at the cables before looking at Kacey.
"Hey." Beca gently smiled, helping Aubrey to her feet. "Hey." The blonde mumbled. "They found another group, we can leave." Beca said softly. "You don't sound very happy about it Hobbit." Aubrey breathed as they began walking out of the room. "I'll explain after we get Benji and get out of here." Beca assured.
Aubrey took a breath before stepping back from Beca. "I can walk." Beca nodded and the two walked out of the room just in time for a loud scream of agony to echo through the hall. Aubrey turned around with confusion. "They're doing to them what they did to us." "Aubrey-." "We have to help them Beca. I don't think I can fight against anything, so I'll go get Benji." Aubrey said softly.
Beca watched as Aubrey turned and went to get Benji. "Fucking hell." The tiny brunette mumbled.
"Uh, ma'am, if we go any further I don't think she'll make it." Jacob pointed.
"Her eyes are still open and her head is moving." Kacey said with furrowed brows.
*Knock Knock*
Kacey looked at Jacob with confusion and he shrugged before walking to the door and opening it just to suddenly be grabbed and turned around with a burning fire iron being placed right at his neck, threatening to touch his skin.
"I should've expected this." Kacey sighed, looking at Beca who stepped in. "Let her and her kids go." Beca said with determination.
Chloe looked at the tiny brunette. Her brows furrowed as she felt pain strike her chest causing her to whimper.
"I can't let this one go." Kacey smiled. "Then I guess we have a problem." Beca shrugged, pressing the fire iron against Jacob's neck making him scream.
"Stop!" Kacey exclaimed, running around the table.
"I'll give you the kids and your little boyfriend, but I won't give you Chloe. Deal?"
Beca looked to Chloe who just seemed to out of it to understand what was even going on. "Deal." She breathed, letting go of Jacob. Kacey smiled and nodded. Jacob shakily looked at Kacey who nodded. "Go to med, find your brother and have him take the kids and Jesse to the front." The tall woman instructed. Jacob only turned and walked out, not saying anything. Kacey looked at Beca who walked over to Chloe.
Beca guiltily looked at Chloe who weakly looked back. "I will take care of them, I promise." She assured. Chloe's jaw clenched.
"Beca, she might be our key to saving the world." Kacey said softly. Beca stayed quiet, grabbing Chloe's hand. She gave the redhead one last look before leaning down. "Once a Bella, always a Bella." She said quietly.
"Alright, go, before I change my mind and tell them to shoot you and the others." Kacey sighed. Beca raised her hands up, still holding the fire iron in one of them. "I'm going."
As soon as Beca stepped out and the door closed, Kacey walked over to Chloe and grabbed her hand.
"You can barely keep your eyes open, just give me whatever it is she gave you." Kacey smiled softly. Chloe weakly dropped the nail. The redhead let out a shaky breath. "Just kill me." She whimpered.
Kacey stared at her for a moment before bringing her hand to Chloe's face. "I want to show you our work here. I'll be back in a moment."
Chloe's jaw clenched as Kacey pushed the very uncomfortable wheelchair through the building. "You think we're the monsters because of what we do to survive." Kacey said softly, turning a corner and walking through a doorway.
Chloe looked around the small room, finding it looked a lot like a meat locker. "It's so hard to keep things cold, but at least we have a place to hold them." Kacey shrugged. Chloe cleared her throat. Whatever this bitch was trying to accomplish was not going to work. "I understand if you don't want to eat your own kind." Kacey said softly.
Chloe's brows furrowed. "You… are psychotic." She breathed. Kacey looked down at the redhead before sighing. "If I change your mind, will you tell me what happened to you?" She asked quietly. Chloe shrugged. "You won't." Kacey hummed, stepping back, pulling Chloe out of the room before turning and shutting the door. Meanwhile the redhead scrunched her face up with pain easily showing.
"I'm kinda surprised Beca still betrayed you like that." Kacey tried to make conversation. "Don't." Chloe mumbled. The woman gave her a look before nodding.
"We call this room the safe." Kacey introduced. Chloe looked around the room with shock. The sight of kids running around, playing tag, at least from what it looked like, while a few teenagers were eating some sandwiches. She also saw one teenager eating… what looked like part of a Rotter.
"We don't force our community to eat what they don't want. At least not right now because we do have the food. Those who do want to prepare for the inevitable… well I think you get it. The kids, we told them, but we aren't letting them eat the infected yet because we don't know the effects it'll have on them and we don't want to risk it. The first person who tried it ended up in a coma for almost a week and was sick for days after waking up. Except, after eating more, his body got used to it. Everyone was surprised to see he didn't turn. We aren't sure what it is exactly that turns us, maybe we're all already infected and they have something in their system that just triggers it, but… for some reason we don't get infected when we eat." Kacey shrugged.
"But they bite and we turn and you just simply get scratched and you turn, I'd know that especially." Chloe said with confusion.
"I still won't say anything." Chloe said quietly. Kacey's jaw clenched. "But I will say I'm not invincible, so whatever you are trying to achieve is next to useless considering you are not a scientist." Chloe shrugged before clearing her throat.
Kacey let out a huff, grabbing the wheelchair and pulling Chloe out of the safe. She didn't say anything, leaving Chloe to wonder where they were going. The redhead sighed shaking her head. "Then I guess back to the testing we go." Kacey mumbled in annoyance.
"Where's Chloe?" Jesse questioned as he looked at the kids before looking at Aubrey, Beca, and Jesse.
"Chloe?" Aubrey asked with surprise.
"Kacey said only you and the kids. Chloe's-." "I told them everything." Jesse breathed. "What?" Beca choked out with her heart dropping. Jesse shook his head. "I'm going to get her."
"Jesse no." Aubrey said quietly. "We have to get her!" Jesse exclaimed while the kids sat on the curb of the street, not sure what to do.
"Are you honestly kidding me right now?" Beca laughed. "Before we were split up even the fucking mention of her name pissed you off!" She exclaimed. "Yeah, maybe, but at least I didn't hide how I felt about her." Beca's jaw clenched.
"Can we just… all take a moment." Benji mumbled, pushing himself to lay on his back. Out of everyone he was probably in the worst condition, he hasn't told Beca nor Aubrey what had happened, but it was bad enough to where he currently couldn't walk without to much pain.
Jesse and Beca stared at each other while Aubrey checked Benji for major injuries. Beca sighed, looking at her foot, slightly shifting her weight as pain struck her toe.
"When she found me, she could've ditched me, left me be behind, but she didn't." Jesse shrugged. "I owe her." He stated before Everest and Cadence walked to him. Everest grabbed Jesse's hand while Cadence crossed her arms. "We found her in the woods and took care of her, when she woke up she took care of us since. We're getting her out." Cadence stated.
Beca shook her head. "You guys don't get it. These assholes have everything they need, we have nothing. We can't just storm back in there, especially when Aubrey and Benji-." "I'm fine, just a few bruises." Aubrey cut Beca off even though it was clearly more than just bruises. "Tell that to the huge cut across your arm." Beca pointed.
Aubrey shook her head. "You said you loved her, you broke down in my arms, what's changed?" She questioned. Beca stayed quiet. "Well whatever it is Hobbit, we're getting her no matter what it takes." Aubrey said with furrowed brows.
Beca let out a frustrated sigh, shaking her head. "Let's just get some rest. We could all use it." Beca couldn't be more grateful for no body arguing about that, statement. Although she did catch the look that Jesse and the kids were giving her. It wasn't that she didn't want to go back for Chloe, it was just that everyone around her, she knows is alive and breathing. Having seen Chloe was shocking, but that shock wore off and it was like she was looking at a ghost.
So, sitting down on the curb next to Aubrey. Aubrey looked at her, gently bringing an arm to rest around her. "What is it Beca?" Beca's jaw clenched. "She was dead. Then I see her in this place? There's no way that's her." She said quietly. "And what if it is? You're just going to leave her?" Aubrey asked.
Beca looked at her hands. "I betrayed her." Aubrey looked to the kids before shrugging. "You got her kids out of there." She pointed out. Beca shook her head. There was no way Chloe was going to forgive her. Right?
"Jesse." Beca lightly called. "Yeah?" "Help me with Benji, we should get away from here." She said softly. "I'm not-." "Later." Jesse's jaw clenched, but he caved and walked over, helping Beca get Benji to his feet.
"Why are they letting me rest here if I'm just going to be in the same state in another few days?" Chloe questioned as a young man who wore an apron over his clothes and a mask over his face gently wiped the dry blood from her skin.
Kacey had introduced Chloe to the medbay. Only two doctors. Although the two were actually teenagers and didn't actually have a degree in anything and only knew the things they knew thanks to their parents being a certified surgeon and scientist. The older kid, the guy, was given the titled as the doctor as the younger one, the girl, was more given the title of the nurse or scientist but some still called her a doctor as well. This was all explained by Kacey before they entered the room. With the way Kacey just placed Chloe in the room and left straight away, Chloe could only guess the woman was not a big fan of the two kids.
"I will be honest, Kacey's always been very odd with her methods. Something me and Izy have never been a fan of, especially her… 'testing'." He mumbled, using air quotes around the word 'testing'. Chloe weakly chuckled. "Are you saying that because of your parents?" The brown eyed boy lightly smiled. "I've always looked up to them. My dad was the scientist, my sister was more of a science person than me but we both admired how he didn't stand for the kind of experimenting that involved animals or humans. Unless it was the kind of medical testing that involved medicine as long it didn't risk death of course." He explained.
Chloe hummed. "I'd be with that." She said softly. "Is that because you're being tested on now?" The guy smirked. Chloe scoffed a laugh. "No." She sighed. "I'm Nick." Chloe hummed. "I had a brother named Nick." "Lose him to the end of the world?" Nick asked quietly. "No, actually I was fourteen when I passed. My parents said it was a drunk driver that ran into him but a year later I found out that he was the one that was drunk." Chloe explained, shifting her position slightly wincing.
"Don't move to much, the stitches at your stomach need to heal before anything." Nick said with furrowed brows before a girl, almost as tall as him stepped up. "Only one dose, we don't need Kacey on our ass again." Izy said quietly. Nick rolled his eyes but nodded.
Chloe cleared her throat. "You guys don't seem very happy here." She said with furrowed brows. The teen shrugged, looking to his sister who was standing at a cabinet, looking at what looked like more medical supplies that could help relieve Chloe's pain.
"We aren't, but we can't try leaving. Kacey threatened us. Being the only ones here who know how to help those who get hurt… she needs us." He admitted. Chloe stared at him for a moment before looking at the ceiling. "Alright." She only said, collapsing her hands together over her stomach. Nick looked at her for a moment before turning and walking across the room, deciding to let her rest. Soon enough, Chloe felt herself drifting to sleep.
A/N A much longer chapter, this kinda goes back and forth between Beca and Chloe, next chapter will be slightly intense. If not slightly then really, we'll see. I haven't started writing it because it's currently 6am and I haven't gotten sleep. Anyways! Please leave a review, I hope you enjoyed. 3 Have a good day/night and I'll have the next chapter up soon :D
