First of all, thanks for all of your reviews. They made my day. Some asked for this kind of thing to happen, but I hope it doesn't disappoint too many of you. :)
Warning: This could trigger some of you as it contains dark themes. I tried not to make it too dramatic though.
The next day had frustrated Callie and made her want to leave University the second she got there. The Professor had worn her out the night before and the lack of sleep had made it quite hard to concentrate or understand the things Arizona had talked about in her lecture. Math had still been her least favorite subject, and the thought of having to stay longer in the afternoon for tutoring hadn't exactly made her happy. Callie had looked forward to seeing her girlfriend again and to get to sit close to her if there happened to be something she hadn't understood or needed help with, but today, the Latina had longed to be in Arizona's arms, watching a movie together and enjoying each other's warmth. The blonde had noticed how many times her beautiful student had yawned during her lecture and when Callie had glanced back at her, she could see the dark circles underneath her eyes. Arizona had felt tired herself, but her girlfriend had usually managed to get through the day without feeling so exhausted, and it had made her wonder what had caused her to feel this way. Thinking back to how stressed Callie had been over the last two weeks, she figured it was the reason for her exhaustion. The Latina had tried her best to understand the steps and potential solutions to solve the problem, but she hadn't understood a single thing and wanted to cry when she realized that everyone around her had understood the complexity of the new topic. The Professor had asked the students to take a moment to try to solve an exercise, but the brunette had already known she wouldn't be able to do it. Leaning back against the back of her chair, Callie had felt the tears swelling in her eyes and closed them for a moment, taking a deep breath. Mark and Meredith had already started trying to write things down while she had still sat there with closed eyes and no clue as to what to do next. While she had tried to calm herself down, her phone had buzzed and caused her eyes to snap open.
What's wrong, sweetie? You look like you're about to cry any minute. - A
Reading that had made the heavy tears she had so desperately tried to hold back run down her cheeks. Quickly wiping them away, Callie texted her back.
I'm sorry. I don't want to disappoint you, but I don't get a thing you're saying. I feel ridiculous for crying. - C
Callie had watched Arizona reading the message and her heart warmed when the blonde glanced at her and pouted her lips.
I'm sorry you don't understand it, sweetie. I can try to explain it again during tutoring later. Are you coming today? - A
Thank you, baby. Yes, I'm coming. Can I talk to you after the lecture? - C
Come to my office. It's less dangerous there. I love you. - A
Callie hadn't understood what happened to her after reading the blonde's last message, but it had caused more tears to run down her cheeks and her heart to skip a beat. The Latina had never felt so much love for someone in her life and the fact Arizona had made sure to tell her she loved her in the middle of her lesson had warmed her heart and had made her quite emotional. She was so lucky to have her in her life and sometimes Callie had wondered how someone like her had developed feelings and had fallen for her. After a few more tears had streamed down her face, she wiped them away with her hoodie before anyone would notice, but one person already had.
"Cal, why are you crying?" Mark asked, causing Meredith to look at her too.
"Yeah, what's wrong?"
Callie sighed, but forced herself to smile. "I'm fine guys, really. I just don't get math and I'm about to get my period."
"I better don't mess with you and your crazy hormones then. You can be a real pain in the ass when you're on your period." Mark joked, but neither Meredith nor Callie had found it funny.
"You're such a dick." the blonde said, rolling her eyes.
"Shut up before I let my "crazy hormones "out on you."
The rest of the lecture had gone by rather quickly, and knowing Arizona would explain it to her again had calmed her down a little. Callie hadn't usually been like this, but her periods had been unpredictable most of the time and she had never known how she would feel. When it was time for them to have a break, the Latina's heart had skipped a beat thinking about being able to see her girlfriend with no one watching them or being near them. Her friend's had rolled their eyes when she had told them she wouldn't be spending her break with them, but they had had no other choice than to accept it. Mark and Meredith had accepted their relationship, but they couldn't deny it had been a little annoying that Callie hadn't spent most of her breaks with them, but with Arizona.
Knocking against the door of Arizona's office, the brunette had waited for the soft voice to assure her she could come in. When Callie had heard the words "come in", she slowly opened the door and closed it behind her.
"Hi." Callie sighed, tears filling her eyes when she looked at Arizona.
The blonde had immediately stood up and walked over to her girlfriend. "Honey, what's wrong, my love?"
"I-I don't know. I need a hug."
"Come here." the blonde sighed and pulled her in for a long hug.
Arizona let her hands brush softly against Callie's back and felt the brunette burying her head in her neck. It had taken a minute for her girlfriend to relax, but when her troubled heart and mind had found comfort in Arizona's arms, Callie let out a loud sigh.
"I've got you, honey."
"Thank you. I really needed thi-"
Suddenly, someone had knocked on the door and caused both women to freeze after they had pulled away from each other. Arizona brought her lips to her mouth, making sure the brunette had understood not to say anything, and walked back to her chair to sit down.
"Come in." she said, causing the Latina to arch her eyebrows.
The door opened slowly and the woman the couple had both hated had come into view. Eliza Minnick. She glanced at Callie for a second before looking at Arizona.
"Ms Robbins, do you have a minute?"
"Um, I'm talking to Ms Torres right now." the blonde said, her voice stern and annoyed because she had come to her office.
"I have a few questions about how all of this works here. I'm starting on Monday and I'd like to prepare myself and..." Eliza said, her eyes darkening. "...I think Ms Torres can wait outside."
Callie's blood had boiled hearing the woman's words and if she had the chance, she would strangle her with her own two hands. There was something about her that had given her a weird vibe, and it hadn't only been because she flirted with her girlfriend. A part of her had wanted to stay, but the smart voice in her head had told her it was best to leave before she would lose her cool.
"Ms Minnick is right...um, I guess I will see you at tutoring later, Ms Robbins."
Arizona had only nodded, but her eyes had expressed her every thought and emotion. She wanted Callie to stick around, but it had probably been for the best to let her go and talk to her later before anything bad would happen. The blonde had known how to deal with her provocative words, but her girlfriend hadn't and it was best for her to leave.
"You will, Ms Robbins. Have a good day."
"You too." Callie smiled slightly and walked out the door, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath when she had closed it behind her. This was not how she imagined her break with her girlfriend.
A few hours later, Callie had found herself sitting in one of the smaller rooms the university offered and waited for Arizona alongside other students. The blonde had already been five minutes late and it was very unlike her, but when she had come rushing into the room a few minutes later, everyone had stared at her.
"I'm so sorry I'm late. I was having a conversation and totally forgot to check the time."
"A conversation with whom? Eliza?" Callie thought, but had continued to listen to her instead.
"I'm going to give you exercise sheets and, as always, ask questions if you don't know how to solve it. That's what I'm here for."
The students nodded and watched the Professor handing out the exercises. Reaching Callie, Arizona smiled at her. "I believe you had a problem during my lecture today, right? Do you need help now?"
"Yes, that would be great. Thank you, Ms Robbins."
"Not a problem, Ms Torres." the blonde smiled and sat down next to her. "Let me see."
The students had worked in the meantime and gave the two women a moment to talk about what happened earlier. "What did she want from you?"
Scanning the room to make sure no one had looked at them, Arizona turned her head towards the Latina and looked into her brown eyes. "She needed help with the organization plan and asked me to explain some things to her."
"But nothing happened?"
"No, but she came back around lunchtime to eat with me."
Callie just stared at her, nausea filling her body. "Are you serious? You have nothing better to do than to have lunch with her? Is that why you were late?"
"Honey, please, lower your voice. I don't want others to hear this." Arizona said, almost begging. "She was being nice and didn't try to do anything to me, so I thought it was fine. We discussed more of the plan during lunch."
Oh, the Latina was pissed, very pissed, the nausea growing stronger with each passing second. "No, Arizona. This is ridiculous. You know she likes you and yet, you chose to have lunch with her."
Arizona had reached out for her hand, but Callie was mad and being touched had been the last thing she had wanted. "Calliope, please, don't be-"
"Excuse me." the Latina said, getting up and quickly making her way towards the door. She hadn't felt this nauseous in a long time, and she had known she was about to throw up any minute, so she ran to one of the toilets.
Arizona had watched her running out of the door, but hadn't understood what had happened. Callie had never been someone to run away from her problems. A few heads had turned towards the Professor when the brunette had left, but she had tried not to show her confusion. When a few minutes had passed and the Latina still hadn't been back, Arizona excused herself and started looking for her. The corridors had been empty and Callie was nowhere in sight and the blonde had thought about where a student could have some privacy. The first thought that had come to her mind was the bathroom, so she had quickly made her way to the women's bathroom and walked inside. As soon as she had stepped inside, she could hear a woman throwing up in one of the stalls.
"Calliope?"
"No!" a weak voice yelled. "I don't want you to see me this way. Oh...oh god..." the Latina choked, another wave of nausea taking over her and causing her to throw up again.
Arizona quickly walked to one of the closed stalls and pushed it open. As soon as the door had opened, a throwing up woman had come into view and caused the blonde's heart to hurt for her. She was sure Callie had felt this way because of her, and it had made her feel ashamed and like the worst girlfriend to ever exist.
"Calliope, honey." the blonde gasped and leaned over to hold the brunette's hair. "I'm so...so sorry! I didn't think...I thought...I thought it was no big deal. I don't want you to feel this way because of me."
A few whimpers and groans escaped Callie's lips, still leaning over the toilet, but her girlfriend holding her hair had calmed her down a little. "This is...not because of...ugh...you, Arizona. I don't know...what's, what's wrong with me."
"I think you should go home and rest, honey."
"No, I need this l-lesson."
"Calliope, would you stop, please?" Arizona stopped her. "I can always explain this to you another time or at home. Go home, sweetie. I'll come over later."
"O-okay."
Callie hadn't known how she had managed to get home, but before she could walk inside the building her apartment was in, another wave of nausea had overcome her body and caused her to have to hold on to the door. Her mind had raced thinking of what could have possibly caused her to feel this way, but she couldn't think of a single thing that would make her throw up like this. Callie had held her stomach to somehow stop herself from having to throw up again when a thought entered her mind. A terrifying thought. A thought she had never expected or even wanted to cross her mind, but when it had, she had thrown up once again and let out a painful moan.
"No, no, no, no, no. Please, God." she cried out, her hands shaking as she had tried to pull out her phone.
Callie had clicked on the wrong app multiple times before she had finally clicked on her period tracker app and realized her period had already been one week late. Her heart had beaten so fast, she thought she was going to pass out any minute and the anxiety that had entered her body had felt like her whole world was about to end.
"Stay calm, stay calm." she said to herself, but it hadn't worked and only freaked her out more.
The Latina had known if she were to go inside her apartment at this moment, she would lose it and freak out even more, so the only thing she had been able to think about was to go to a pharmacy and buy an early pregnancy test. The next pharmacy had only been five minutes away, so she had started walking and wiped her tears away. Her legs had felt like jelly and she had almost stumbled over her own two feet multiple times. When she walked inside the pharmacy, a rush of anxiety filled her again and caused her to start breathing heavily. A woman working there had noticed how stressed Callie had looked and walked over to where the brunette had stood.
"Are you okay, dear? You look really pale."
Callie lifted her gaze slowly and looked at the tall and lovely looking woman. "I...um, no, but I uh, I need an early pregnancy test, please."
The woman nodded. "Oh, sure. Just a minute."
"T-thanks."
It had only taken about a minute, but it had felt like an eternity for Callie. The world had looked a little less colorful and as if it had stopped spinning. Having to buy a pregnancy test had been the last thing she had expected or wanted to do today. She couldn't even imagine how Arizona would react to the pregnancy scare or her actually being pregnant.
"Here, take two just to make sure." a voice said, pulling her out of her thoughts.
"O-okay, thanks." Callie stuttered and wanted to pull out her purse when she realized she hadn't had her backpack with her.
"Oh god." the brunette gasped, the situation and now not having a purse with her overwhelming her. "I...I forgot my purse. I'm sorry...I'll um, I'll come back."
"Wait. I'll pay for it. I can see how worried you are and I don't want you to have to go back home to grab your purse." the tall woman smiled softly and reached out for Callie's hand. "Whatever the result may be, you will be just fine, dear."
Callie's eyes had filled with heavy tears. Her words had been just what she had needed to hear and had given her a bit of comfort. "Thank you. Thank you so much."
"Not a problem. Take care."
Arriving at home, the brunette had walked straight to the kitchen, placed her phone on the kitchen counter and grabbed a glass, which she had quickly filled with water. After drinking three glasses of water, Callie had to take a couple of deep breaths to hold herself back from throwing up again. She had never had to throw up so much before and the taste of vomit had still been in her mouth, even though she had had something to drink. After about five minutes, Callie had felt a soft pressure in her bladder and even though this usually wouldn't have made her get up to go to the toilet, the Latina had grabbed the pregnancy tests and walked to the bathroom. Her legs had started shaking again while her hands had fumbled with the packing of the tests. Sitting down on the toilet, Callie had opened the box and pulled out the instructions and the test.
"1. Remove the test stick from the wrapper and take off the cap."
"2. Place the absorbent tip in your urine stream for 5 seconds."
"Oh god." Callie groaned. It had never been so hard for her to pee before, but she had to if she had wanted a result.
When she had finally started peeing, it had almost felt like some sort of relief, but knowing why she had done it had made her feel even more uncomfortable.
"3. Keep the absorbent tip pointing downwards throughout the testing process and never turn the stick with the absorbent tip pointing upwards."
"4. Replace the cap and lay the stick flat."
Callie had done just that and let out a loud sigh. She had still tried to be hopeful about it not being positive, but in the back of her mind, she had already started thinking about what a pregnancy would do to her life, her relationship and oh god, her parents. They hadn't even known about her relationship with Arizona. How would she explain she had gotten pregnant? Hundreds of thoughts had swirled in her mind, yet none of them had calmed her down.
"5. Wait for 1-3 minutes."
Taking another deep breath, the brunette had stood up, flushed the toilet and walked out of the bathroom with the two tests turned upside down in her hand. The butterflies in her stomach had been intense before, but this time it had been the bad and terrifying kind of intense and there was nothing she could do about it. Walking back to the living room, Callie placed the tests on the kitchen counter and stood there for a while, staring into the distance. It had all felt like a terrible and scary nightmare that would wake her up with tears in her eyes, the only difference being that she had been awake all this time and this not being a dream. She had been so lost in her thoughts, only a loud buzzing sound of her phone had pulled her out of it.
I'm five minutes away, honey. I hope you're doing better. - A
Reading the message had caused her heart to beat even faster than it already had, the pounding making her feel more nauseous. She had wanted to reply, but her hands had been shaking way too much and had made it impossible to text her back without ten mistakes in one sentence. Looking back at the tests resting on the counter, Callie had known she had to turn them around and face whatever result it would inform her about. With shaking hands and a troubled heart, the brunette grabbed the two tests and took one last deep breath before turning them around.
"Pregnant. 1-2."
The blood suddenly pounded in her ears and her heart thudded in her chest. A wave of shock and disbelief washed over her, taking her under and causing her to lose her breath. Her lungs tightened, making her feel like someone was choking her. Her vision disfigured, as if she were looking through a fish-eye lens.
"Oh god." she panted, starting to hyperventilate with tears streaming down her face.
The level of anxiety was becoming unbearable, leaving her in an excessively paranoid state, a significant lump within the cavity of her throat. Suddenly and unexpectedly, loud sobs escaped her mouth and a numbing sensation had spread from her fingers across her skin like a wildfire, causing goosebumps to rise along her now pale skin. The world around her had turned quiet, the only sound being the loud pounding in her ears.
"I messed up my life."
"My parents will hate me."
"My life is over."
"Arizona will leave me, just like everyone else."
All of these thoughts had entered her mind and left her hyperventilating in the middle of the kitchen. Her heart had pounded in her chest and her legs had given in when she had tried to take a step forward. Callie was about to fall to the ground when a strong hand reached out for her and prevented her from hitting the ground.
"Oh my god, Calliope! What's wrong?" Arizona asked loudly, the shock causing her voice to sound louder than she had wanted it to.
Callie looked at her but couldn't say a word. She had no idea how the blonde had gotten into her apartment, but it had been the furthest thing from her mind.
Arizona looked at her with fear in her eyes. "Baby, please, say something."
The Latina couldn't say a word. It was as if the positive pregnancy test had put her in some kind of trance she couldn't get out of until someone else had snapped her out of it. She had stared at Arizona with no emotion in her eyes and it had scared the blonde more than anything ever had.
"L-let me grab you a glass of water." Arizona had stuttered, somehow trying to pull Callie out of whatever situation she had been in. Walking around the counter, Arizona noticed something laying on it and stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyes widened in shock. On the counter had laid two positive pregnancy tests. Freaking pregnancy tests.
"1-2 weeks."
Callie had still stood in the same position, with the same blank expression, her eyes staring into the distance. She hadn't been able to move or speak at all because the shock had paralyzed her. Nothing seemed to be able to snap her out of her trance, but when the door had slammed shut, she had looked around and noticed the blonde had been gone. She had left. Left her alone in the darkest moment of her life, letting her deal with the situation and her feelings all by herself with no one to hold onto when she thought she was about to break down any minute. Arizona had just left without saying a word, without looking back. She was gone.
The Latina had seen her life flash before her eyes. Being in this situation had shown her just how fast life could change and leave you in the darkest and worst moments of your entire life. There was a baby growing inside her. A little human who had turned her life upside down in the blink of an eye and made her girlfriend run away. Tears of indescribable pain had streamed down her face, and the longer she had stood there, the more thoughts had entered her mind.
"She left me like everybody else." she thought. "I'm not good enough and I never will be."
More tears streamed down her face and splashed onto the ground.
"I lost her. She's never coming back."
The thoughts racing in her head had made her need to get away. She couldn't stay near that damned apartment any longer. She couldn't look at it or stand inside of it and left without taking her phone or jacket with her. Nothing had mattered anymore. Her life hadn't mattered anymore since Arizona had left her, the only person she had ever truly loved. Callie had walked around for over an hour with no plan or destination in her head before she thought about one place she had wanted to be at. A place that would be nothing but silent, nothing but peaceful.
The sun had started to set when Callie had arrived at the place she had needed to be at. Her mind hadn't functioned anymore. The only thing she had known was that she had lost everything that had ever meant something to her, and now there was a baby growing inside her. A baby she hadn't meant to make or have inside her belly. Her life had seemed to be over and there hadn't been a single thing she could think about that would make the situation any better. The Latina walked around and felt the soft grass underneath her feet and a chilly breeze dance around her skin. There had been a lake she could look down on and while it must have looked beautiful to everyone else, Callie couldn't see anything beautiful. The water had made her think about how silent it would be if she jumped into the water and stayed there until the ringing in her ears and the pounding in her chest would stop and give her the peace she had been looking for. The cliff she had been standing on had given her the best view with the most beautiful sunset, yet her mind couldn't think about anything other than having ruined her entire life. It would never go back to normal and her parents would never accept her or the baby. Everything the Latina had once known had turned to dust and made her wonder what was left for her to stay.
Meanwhile, Arizona had buried her face in her soaked hands. She had never cried so much in her life, not even when Lauren had cheated on her and turned her life upside down. The heartbreak she had once known had been nothing compared to how she had felt at this particular moment. Her heart had hurt badly and her hands had started shaking uncontrollably as soon as she had left the brunette's apartment. How was it possible for her to be pregnant? They had always used protection and had never been careless, except the first time they had fucked, but that had been many weeks ago and didn't fit the "1-2 weeks pregnant". The blonde had felt terrible for leaving Callie alone, but they had tried so hard to hide their love for one another, and now she was pregnant with her baby. She could not only lose her job, but Callie could also lose her spot at university and both of them could face charges. The blonde also hadn't been ready for a child, but there was nothing she could do about it now. It happened and the two would have to deal with it.
When Arizona had looked up again, she glanced around and noticed the beautiful colors of the sunset. She had brought Callie here just about a week ago, and now their lives had completely changed and left them with a burden neither one of them had been able to carry. Looking around, Arizona could see a figure in the distance, standing on top of a high cliff. It had looked like a woman, but the clothes had looked oddly familiar. Getting up from the grass, the blonde slowly walked towards the cliff which had been way too far away to see who the woman was. The closer she got, the clearer the person standing there had become, but with each passing second, the woman had stepped closer to the edge of the cliff. Anxiety had filled her heart. What was this person doing? Picking up her pace, the blonde walked faster and faster until she had stopped dead in her tracks. It was Callie. Callie was the woman standing near the cliff. Awfully close to the edge. Fear she had never known filled her entire body, but she had known she needed to act fast. Whatever was going through the brunette's mind hadn't been good.
As if her life had depended on it, Arizona started to run. She started to run faster than she had ever had, her thoughts racing in her head. The anxiety inside her had caused her to run even faster and when Callie had stepped even closer to the edge, she screamed loudly.
"CALLIOPE!"
