AN- Oops I did it again, I typed this up forever ago, then closed my laptop and didn't pick it up again for a while. I actually opened it to start writing a chapter to one of my other stories that got a review and noticed I had already typed up this one.

They were back in the kitchen after discovering that Ryan's house was empty the kids were all playing in the playroom and all the adults were trying to figure out what to do next. So far everyone had come to the conclusion something wasn't right. Ryan loved the children he wouldn't leave them on his own. Magnus didn't want to mistrust the wife because she was a fairy but the way she had been acting was suspicious.

"We could take them to the institute." Jace said

"There isn't a place there for half mundane half fairy there." Magnus told them.

"We can't just leave them at a fire house." Clary told him.

"Why would we leave them at a fire house?" Isabelle asked

"Safe haven laws." Simon said handing her a cup of water and kissing the top of her head. Isabelle and Jace just looked at the two of them still not understanding, "Never mind."

"We need to find him." Magnus said thinking about last night and how Ryan had whispered 'help me.'

"How do you know he wants to be found?" Jace asked.

Magnus rolled his eyes, "He wouldn't leave these kids he was thinking of leaving his wife, then all of a sudden he leaves in the middle of the night leaving the kids behind to run off with his fairy wife?" Magnus shook his head, "It doesn't make sense." For only a moment he saw an image of Ryan flash into his mind. He was holding Max as a baby and looking over at Magnus and smiled.

"I thought you didn't believe in fairy discrimination?" Jace asked

Magnus looked over at him and sighed, "Normally I would say I don't, but we all know something is off."

Before Jace could answer a knock came to the door and they could hear Luke answer it. Then he led whoever was at the door to the kitchen. Clary smiled when she saw Tessa and Jem.

"Everyone's here." Tessa said quickly then glanced at Jem. "Good."

"Good?" Jace asked.

"Something is going on." Jem said stepping forward

"What is it?" Jace asked his eyes falling on Jem.

"I don't remember." Jem told them, "But I think none of us do. Except Tessa."

The way he said Tessa always made Clary want to smile, he loved his wife anyone could see it in every look and every time he said her name. When Shadowhunters really did fall in love they took no short cuts, they fell hard. The same way Jace and she had fallen in love, and the same way Alec had loved Magnus. She frowned. Alec hadn't loved Magnus; he hadn't had a chance to fall in love with anyone. Right? 'Wrong' a voice seemed to whisper in her mind.

"Yes." Tessa told them, "But even now the longer I'm out in the world and not in the spiral labyrinth it gets harder to remember."

"Remember what?" Jace asked his mind flashing to a few memories from the other life he had. The life that had slowly been driving him mad.

"Alec." She said softly and she saw a flash of pain cross Jace's face. She knew that look she saw it on Jem from time to time. It was the look of a Shadowhunter who lost his other half, lost his parabatai. "I remember Alec and the true life he led."

"True life?" Clary asked.

She looked over at Magnus, "You loved him."

"I have never loved a Nephilim." He thought of Will, and Tessa's children, "I've been fond of a handful, but never love. Especially a Lightwood." Which earned him a glare from Isabelle.

"You did." Tessa stepped forward, "You loved Alec Lightwood. I've never seen you love anyone like you loved him."

Magnus was about to argue but then as if someone turned on a television an image formed in his mind.

They were in his loft and Alex was cleaning the couch, Magnus glanced over at the Shadowhunter as he made drinks.

"You know I have magic for that?" Magnus smiled at him

"I think you exerted yourself enough for one day." Alec muttered as he continued to clean.

Magnus turned holding up the drinks, "Drink break?" he asked

Alec looked up and a ghost of a grin began to play at his lips as he tossed the towel on to the couch and walked over. Magnus handed him the drink and snapped his fingers allowing a blue flame to take hold of the drink, Alec didn't flinch away as some Shadowhunters might.

"To us." Magnus said as they clicked their glasses together. The moment Alec took a sip Magnus could tell the other man didn't drink much.

"Why did you ask for me?" Alec asked, "Jace and Clary were both here."

"Hmm." Magnus said surprised, "Jace didn't tell you?" Alec shook his head, "It doesn't matter it was a lie anyway." He said looking away slightly out the window.

"Are warlocks always this cryptic?"

Magnus smirked, "I'm not being cryptic. I'm being coy." He turned back to Alec who was watching him and sighed, "Let me spell it out for you. I wanted to see you again." He walked back over to Alec.

Alec looked confused and Magnus was surprised at how he really did need to spell it out to the other man. "Why?" he asked his eyes looking away then back to Magnus's

"Why'd you come?" Magnus asked still stepping closer.

Alec didn't move away instead he thought for a moment and shook his head, "I'm not sure."

"For over a century I've closed myself off from feeling anything for anyone." He told Alec surprised he was really feeling this way about a Shadowhunter, "Man or woman. You've unlocked something in me."

Magnus was brought back to the kitchen looking at Tessa, still he shook his head. He didn't know where that image came from, but already his mind was telling him it wasn't real.

"I think we would remember that." Jace said, "If Alec and Magnus were a thing."

"They were, but it was more than just them." Tessa told them.

"You mean there were more people in their relationship?" Jace asked wrinkling his nose.

"No." Tessa shook her head smiling slightly she could see Will from time to time in Jace, "It was more than just them together, Alec united downworlders and Shadowhunters, he created the downworlder- Shadowhunter Alliance."

"The what?" Clary asked. She had never heard of that before. They were making steps in New York to have better relations with downworlders, but no one had been able to unite them not fully. There still was so little trust.

"Why don't we remember then?" Magnus asked.

Tessa gave him a sad smile, "When you lost him you lost yourself." She looked away for a moment and then back at him, "You cast those memories away."

Magnus frowned, "Why would I do that over someone dying?" Magnus had loved before, he knew what it was like to lose someone, he had been there for Tessa he had been the one to help her move on. He couldn't imagine loving someone enough that he would want to forget.

"You weren't in the right mind set." Tessa told him, "I believe you summoned a demon and you stripped your love for him away."

Magnus wanted to argue with her, but there was another side of him that said everything made senses. He had lost memories before it was what immortal beings did. So many years lived it would be impossible to remember them all.

"Jace said that." Clary whispered so low the others didn't. She thought of the day they had the party in the back yard when Jace had come here to the house, half mad. "Jace said Magnus got rid of his memories, or that he must have given them up to a demon."

"You were half mad when he said that." Magnus said. He still couldn't believe he had loved Alexander Lightwood. "I never loved Alec."

"Daddy?" Max whispered from the doorway. Magnus looked over at him.

"What?" Magnus asked, Max never called him Daddy.

"Daddy." Max said again, "That was daddy's name."

Magnus looked at Max shaking his head, "little one, it's always just been you and me."

"Not always." Max said tears in his little eyes, "Daddy used to be there."

For a moment an image in an old somewhat run down room came to his mind. Alec Lightwood standing holding Max as a baby only a few months old in his arms, his family jumping around him trying to get time with the baby. Magnus put his hand to his head as his mind seemed to be remembering two different moments. Because his mind also told him he had found little Max on his doorstep. Alone.

"He brought a little brother and sister." Max told them and smiled.

"Huh?" Magnus asked.

"Daddy doesn't remember me." Max told him and then looked down.

Magnus knelt down, "What do you mean?"

"I think sometimes he does." Max whispered, "Can we bring him home?"

"Where is he?" Magnus asked.

"Next door silly." Then he giggled, "I saw you kiss that means he's coming home."

"My little blue berry." Magnus said softly, "Ryan isn't your daddy, he's Lexie and Cal's daddy."

"Yes." Max told him, "Little brother and sister."

Magnus sighed and looked up at Tessa.

"I think he's right Magnus." She said softly. "That man next door, when I saw him with you in the park, I thought for a moment he was Alec."

"He wasn't Alec." Magnus said, "He's Ryan he's a mundane who is missing now."

"What?" Tessa asked, "What do you mean?"

"His house is packed up; he left his kids here and he and his wife are gone. If I didn't know any better, I would have never known someone was living there at all."

"Why would he leave?" Jem asked

"We were trying to figure that out." Clary said, "When you got here and what to do with the kids."

"I think we can all agree something is going on." Simon said.

Magnus shook his head there was a part of him that wanted to believe Tessa but also a part of him that was fighting it, telling him not to think not to remember. Just pick up Max and walk away, leave the Nephilim to figure this out. To walk away from wondering about Ryan, it was for them to figure out if the fairy was forcing a mundane this wasn't his problem none of this was. "I should go." He was supposed to be a warlock who only got involved when he was paid to. He wasn't even sure why he felt so drawn to be Clary's friend. He shouldn't be here in a house full of Nephilim. He had a son now, it was about time he stopped involving himself in the Nephilim's affairs.

"Magnus." Tessa said.

A pain filled Magnus's head and again the push came to leave. He shook his head, "This isn't an issue for me." He picked up Max. Again, the image of Alec standing holding Max and smiling at him filled his mind his heart began to hurt like he missed that image, like what Tessa said was true.

"He was your boyfriend." Tessa told him, "And you loved him." She then glanced at Jem, "But you can't remember."

"I loved him?" Magnus asked, "Alec Lightwood." He shook his head, "Like I said the Lightwoods have never been my type." His eyes met Tessa's "The Herondale's on the other hand." Jace raised his eyebrow at Magnus, "I mean back when they were dark haired."

"Like Alec was." Tessa said softly, "Out of the corner of my eye there were times he reminded me of Will."

"No." Magnus said, "I mean the boy was attractive, but all Nephilim are." Magnus thought of Alec thought of the Shadowhunter he had seen. Sure, he had been attracted to the other man, he had thought maybe just maybe the attraction went both ways, but Alec never seemed to want to take that step, to act on any part of his feelings. Magnus knew how it was among his kind, being gay was something no one spoke of. Lie. Something deep within him said, Alec did. He heard a knocking in his mind, he saw himself opening his door to a nervous Alec Lightwood. "I wouldn't of." He said as he held Max, but still an image of himself leaning forward and kissing a nervous Alec Lightwood filled his mind. "Would I have?" he questioned as his mind saw Alec leaning in for more. His eyes met Tessa's and he shook his head to see an expression in her eyes, he knew that look it was the look he gave her when Will died.

"We can't remember." Jem told them, "When we do, we either sound mad like Jace did or something stops us." Jem thought of how he had fallen into darkness how he had been locked away from this world and only Will could break through only Will could tell him he had to go back. "There is something powerful that doesn't want us to remember, at first we thought demon but now we think Fairy."

"Or both." Tessa added.

"Fairy?" Clary asked, "Ryan is married to a fairy." She wasn't sure why it felt important to bring up Ryan again and his wife.

"I think he has something to do with all of this." Tessa said, "That man is important. You were all drawn to him."

Magnus wanted to argue, but he couldn't there was a pull to the mundane he couldn't explain. He had felt it, Clary had, Jace had, and he knew even Isabelle did. He thought of that first day at the daycare where Max and little Alec had been drawn to the twins as well. There was something about them that no one could explain. "So what are we supposed to do?" Magnus asked he felt tired. Tired of there always being some big bad to fight, tired of always fighting. 'We always find out way back to each other.' It was Alec's voice in his mind he knew that. His chest hurt thinking of Alec he had never felt this feeling before. He had seen what it looked like in Tessa her curled up on a mattress in his flat, he had held her as she cried for Will, but not him he had never loved like that.

"Jem tried to remember." Tessa told them. "But it hurt him too, it almost locked him away from me forever."

"Will brought me back." Jem smiled softly remembering seeing his parabatai in his mind. Will telling him to go back to Tessa, Will telling him he had to find a way to right the wrong in the world.

"When Jace remembered it drove him mad." Tessa said, "And when you remembered Magnus you blacked out."

"When I remembered?" Magnus asked.

Clary remembered when Magnus had been 'sick.' No one had been able to explain it, and everyone had just pretended it never happened after. Magnus acted like it had been no big deal.

"Any time something happens that is a step in the direction to figuring this out one of us gets hurt, or sick and then we let it go." Jem said, "This is a powerful dark magic. Someone is protecting a big secret."

"But why?" Magnus asked, "Why is it so important we remember?"

"Because of everything Alec did." Tessa told him, "I have always dreamed of a day when downworlders and Shadowhunters could truly rely on each other. There were glimpses back with my children and their friends, but it all faded away. This time was different this time many were coming together." She smiled, "If only you could remember it, downworlders came from all over to ask for help because they trusted Alec because he helped everyone who needed it. He didn't put shadow hunters head of downworlders he only did what was right."

Pride filled Magnus as he heard Tessa talk about Alec, but why? Could what she said really be true had he loved the other man? But if he had why would he want to forget that kind of love? Again, it was like someone stabbed his heart. Alec Lightwood was dead even if what Tessa said was true that wouldn't change. If he had loved Alec the way Tessa spoke then he had lost Alec, why should he remember that pain? "Remembering him won't change anything." Magnus told her, "He will still be dead."

"Because you might remember the pain, but you will remember the good." Tessa told him, "Just like you told me, and you can't tell me you don't feel the pain." She knew what it was like to lose a great love, but she also knew what it was like to remember that person's smile and allow it to bring a smile to your face. She knew what it was like to think back on all the good and remember that kind of love.

"He's not dead." Max said glaring at all of them, "Daddy's coming home."

Magnus shook his head, but the look Max gave him seemed to beg him to remember. "Papa." Max whispered and leaned forward he rested his forehead on Magnus's. Then he felt magic flow into him, he had never seen Max touch magic like this yet, but before he could even be surprised an image flew to his mind.

Magnus walked into the bedroom and leaned on the doorway smiling at the two he saw in the bed. Max was leaning against Alec Lightwood reading a story to him.

"One more." Max begged when Alec finished, and Alec smiled. The smile filled Magnus with so much joy so much happiness.

"We can read as many as you like in the morning." He said walking into the room. Alec stood up holding the book.

"Nightlight!" Max exclaimed.

"Sleep." Magnus said and waved his hand and a little night sky appeared above the bed.

Alec leaned down and kissed Max avoiding his horns. The two began to walk out of the room, but both turned to look at Max. Max smiled at them from the bed as Magnus wrapped his arms around Alec's waist from behind and rested his head on Alec's shoulder. "I never thought I'd have this." He whispered.

"What?" Alec asked.

"A family." Magnus told him.

Max brought his head away from Magnus's "We were family." He told Magnus. Magnus just looked at his son his eyes scanning Max's face. That had been a memory from the little boy, he was only two in the image it was impossible for Max to remember that. Right?

"Alec." Magnus whispered. The pain was in his mind again as he thought of the other man. The man he didn't know, but the image Max gave him, the images that snuck to his mind from time to time told him otherwise.

"Pull the string." Tessa told him. When it came to memories being forgotten there was sometimes a way to bring them back if you could only find the small memory that led to them all. Magnus could feel as if he was on an edge, an edge of a big decision. If Tessa was right if he pulled the string to unlock memories, he would feel pain, he would remember a great love and then the loss of that love.

"Why do you care if I remember him?" Magnus said looking away from Max and to Tessa.

"Because you loved him." Tessa said softly.

"I don't know if I can." Magnus whispered but he could tell something was happening in his mind. Alec's smile was getting stronger, he could feel himself reaching out in his mind for Alec, to hold him, to remember him. He saw Alec standing over a crib in the shadow hunter academy smiling down at Max.

"You can." Tessa said, "I'll help you." She knew the last time Magnus remembered something had fought him, but this time she would use her magic she would try and keep whatever darkness pulled at Magnus's mind at bay. She took his hand she could feel her magic moving into him, but not just hers. Max was also tapping into magic and helping shield Magnus. "Remember she whispered.

"I'm Magnus." He said walking forward, "I don't think we've formally need introduced."

Alec smiled and looked him up and down quickly, "I'm Alec." He said.

Then he saw Ragnar sitting before him, "someday someone will come along and tear down those walls you built around your heart. And when that love comes back to you, you must do everything in your power to fight for it."

"Daddy!" Max exclaimed as the front door opened. Magnus stood up from the floor where he had been sitting with Max. To see Alec coming through the front door. Covered in dirt his hair a mess.

"What happened to you?" Magnus asked

"Jace needs to learn to count." Alec sighed, "He said maybe ten demons, but apparently that meant about thirty." Max attached himself to Alec's leg which brought a smile to the man's face.

"How is my little man?" he asked looking down at Max.

"He has been terrorizing the cat all day. The little terror." He stepped closer and kissed Alec, then frowned, "How about you shower, and I'll make us something to eat."

Alec nodded his head. Magnus could tell he was tried, but happy to be home after a night of demon hunting.

He saw Alec sitting before him. "That is what you do Alexander, it might take you a minute, but I've seen it." Magnus stepped forward comforting the man he loved, "You will blow up the very ground you stand on to make things right." Alec's eye met his and Magnus could feel everything come rushing back.

Magnus was remembered his vacation with Alec the first one they ever took. The first time Magnus realized he could truly trust Alec, when he helped him put a stop to his joke cult and never once told the clave about any of hit. He remembered being captured by Shinyun

"Why didn't you just grab me in Paris or on the train?" He still felt the burn in his throat where she had almost choked the life out of him. "Why go for this charade?"

"Alec." Shinyun said his name like it was poison, "Every time I was close to seizing you, he got in the way. I had you cornered in the Paris shadow market until he arrived at the ally. We actually had you in our grasp until he started cutting down all my demon. Alec took out the pack of demons and most of the swarm."

Magnus remembered watching Alec cutting down demons on the train without a shirt on, he remembered thinking in that moment he couldn't believe Alec was with him, fighting for him. He remembered Alec holding on to him in cold water offering him all his strength, Alec shielding downworlders in Venice. He remembered Alec coming to him through a cloud of demons through every land and at every turn. Alec choosing Magnus over the clave.

He could see every smile, feel every tough. He needed to be strong the way Alec had always been. He had seen Alec stand up many times against things that were wrong no matter how hard it was. He needed to be that strong. The pain that had filled his head every time an image of Alec came to his mind was less. He could feel Tessa's magic and to his surprise Max's.

Magnus opened his eyes and felt crushed. Crushed by the pain of realizing all the love he now remembered was gone. Alec was gone. Alec was dead and now he could remember it all. He looked into Tessa's eyes.

"Magnus." She said softly.

"I remember." He whispered, "I remember Alec."

Tessa stopped her magic and took a step back. "Do you feel any pain?"

"No." Magnus said.

"Is it trying to seep away?" Jem asked.

"No." Magnus said again. He looked at Max and saw his little eyes watching him. "You've remembered this whole time?"

"Yes." He whispered, "I remember daddy."

Magnus kissed the top of his head, "I'm sorry I forgot."

Jace watched the scene unfold in front of him. He saw the moment Magnus's body changed when he remembered. Jace felt the pull of the other life he remembered once more, the life he kept letting slip away. The life where Alec loved Magnus and Magnus loved Alec. "It was real wasn't it?" Jace asked Magnus.

"Yes." Magnus said looking at Jace and instantly felt for the man. All this time Jace had been saying that he remembered a different life, a different path and no one had believed him.

"I'm not crazy." Jace voice sounded relieved, "I knew it." He had started to doubt his own mind.

"No Jace." Tessa said softly for a moment she could see Will in him when he smiled. "You're not crazy."

"I still don't really understand what's going on." Simon said, "And what this had to do with your neighbor and the kids."

"Ryan." Magnus said and his mind played over every moment he could remember with the mundane. He saw his eyes, his smile, heard his laugh, but none of it belonged to Ryan. Magnus looked at Jace, "Isn't his name."

Jace knew, even if he hadn't fully known. He had been drawn to the other man yesterday he had been playing football with him, he had sat with him. He had felt like he knew him because he had. "He was right here." Jace whispered.

"Who?" Simon asked.

"Alec." Izzy said, "He's Alec."

"The neighbor?" Simon frowned trying to recall the other man, but he couldn't actually place an image with the thought of the other man. It was almost like when he was trying to remember memories before he ascended. "But that would mean his kids. Are Alec's kids."

"And that Max is right." Magnus said looking at his son in his arms, "They are your brother and sister."

"Uh hu." Max looked puzzled, "I told you. Alec said they were Shadowhunters like him."

Magnus looked at his son and hated himself for allowing himself to forget Alec he had never thought what it would do to their son. All this time Max had been missing his dad and Magnus had never once known.

"So why did he leave?" Simon asked, "If he is Alec?"

"He doesn't remember, he doesn't have any runes somehow he looks mundane." Jocelynn said.

"That's not true, there were times out of the corner of my eye I would think he had a tattoo but when I looked closer it wasn't there." Clary shook her head, "And then I just let it go."

"Alec's alive." Jace whispered, "I knew it." He touched his parabatai rune that now seemed to be stronger it didn't look faded anymore, as if just remembering was unlocking a glamor no one had even known was there.

Jem could see the peace that washed over Jace he knew what it was like losing your other half he remembered how it felt. He would do anything to have Will walk through the door right now and see him again, but in a way he had. Will came to him in that dream and set him free, when it was important Will was still there for him. "We will get him back." Jem told them. "We will find him."

"Good morning sleepy head." Lia said opening up the curtains to their bedroom. Ryan groaned and pulled a pillow over his head. "Come on." She laughed crawling on to the bed and pulled the pillow off his head. Ryan smiled and pulled her on top of him and began kissing her. She squealed but kissed him back.

"Good morning." Ryan told her when they broke apart. His eyes scanned her, and he felt like he was falling in love with her all over again. "How did I get so lucky to wake up with you?"

"You're lucky I made a deal with the devil for you." She told him.

Ryan laughed at her joke, not realizing that she spoke the truth. He got up out of bed and for a moment went to leave the room because he thought he had to check on someone. He paused for only a moment before he shook off the feeling and went into the bathroom to shower.

Lia frowned she saw his moment of hesitation a small moment where his body hadn't wanted to go along with his mind as if he was still being pulled. She had taken him far away from New York this time. Far away from Magnus and Jace away from the children that drew his attention away from her. She looked out the window of the flat that they now shared in London. She felt exhausted from having to use so much of her magic, but she would keep using it to keep him. The children should keep her safe, especially since she had a son. He would want a boy; he would stop coming after her if he got his hands on a boy. She was only sorry she had to leave the child with the Shadowhunters. Her only hope now was that they would turn over the fairy children to the fairies. They would have no way of knowing that the kids were half Nephilim. Surly the longer she stopped cloaking them they would notice the slight fairy features on the children and since shadow hunters hated fairies, they wouldn't keep them, they wouldn't protect them. She smiled and tried to tell herself to relax. She won, Ryan was hers and would stay hers. Here in London no one would draw him in everyone he cared about was in New York no one who cared about him was here. They were safe.

Ryan finished his shower and was standing in the bathroom. He could hardly see himself in the mirror from the steam that fogged it up. The image he saw was distorted he could almost image a tattoo coming up his neck, but when he reached forward and cleared the mirror, he just saw himself standing with the tattoo. He sighed as he looked at himself as he couldn't shake the feeling that he had forgotten something important. He looked at his arm and again he saw a tattoo but almost as quickly as he saw it the image on his arm vanished. He touched the spot where it had been and a part of him felt lost without seeing it. As if that image on his arm was an anchor to something more, to someone else.

"Ryan." Lia said as she walked in but stopped when he was looking at his arm, the spot where his parabatai rune was. Ryan looked up at her through the mirror and frowned.

"That's not my name." He whispered his eyes locked on her through the mirror and he remembered last night when she met him at the front door. When she did something to him to make him forget. Forget what? Then he saw himself dancing with Magnus, laughing with Jace, Clary, Simon and Isabelle. He remembered his family. "What did you do?"

"No." Lia growled, "How did you remember?"

"You can keep making me forget, but I'll keep remembering." He growled at her, "I'll never forget them, not for long."

"You will." She said, "You will love me again."

"I never loved you." He told her.

"Yes, you do." Tears filled her eyes, "Ryan we were happy."

"That isn't my name." he told her, "It's Alec and every time you call me Ryan, I know it's wrong." he saw her tears and shook his head, "Why me? Why keep trying to make me love you?"

"You save me." She told him. "That night on the oriental express. You fought through those demons like they were nothing. For the first time in my life I saw someone who could protect me."

"Oriental express?" he asked and then he remembered the night on the train. His and Magnus's first vacation that ended up with them defeating a cult that Magnus accidently started. He remembered fighting demons without his shirt on trying to keep Magnus safe.

"You don't remember me, you only had eyes for him." She growled, "That filthy warlock."

"Magnus." He whispered and wanted nothing more than to go to him, to go home to his family. He thought of Max the little boy he had seen had grown since the last time Alec saw him. He remembered a toddler not a little boy. Lia stole years of his life, where he would see Max grow away from him. "Where are the twins?" he asked.

"We left them behind." Lia told him, "You loved them more then me, and he wants Cal. Once he has him, I'll finally be able to stop running."

"Who wants Cal?" Alec asked, "What about Lexie?"

"I suppose we could have taken her, but why? So, you could love her more. I don't think so." She shook her head and stepped closer. Alec still watched her through the mirror. "Cal will be fine as long as he follows orders my father always wanted a son to unite the courts and now he will have one."

"Unite the courts" he asked, "the Seelie and unseelie?" he frowned, "What does Cal have to do with that?"

"My mother was the first heir." She told him, I was stolen away into fairy to be hidden and kept by my grandfather so he could use my power. But he said it wasn't what he needed he needed a son and then I could be free." She smiled, "We will be free as soon as he has Cal."

"He isn't getting Cal." He told her. Then he smirked, "You left him in a house full of Shadowhunters. No one can touch him."

"With me gone they will soon notice the fairy features I hid from them." Lia smiled, "And when they do they will have no choice but to hand them over to the fay, from there my grandfather will find them."

"They are half Nephilim." Alec told her, "That blood will shine through just like Mark and Helen."

"They won't know that." Lia told him, "They never even realized who you were, what you were. You were just the mundane next door to them."

Alec didn't want to admit she was right, that whatever magic she used, what ever deals she made allowed his friends to not even know who he was when he was standing right in front of them. "You won't win." He told her, "They will figure it out."

"No." She told him, "They won't."

"I will keep breaking through, no matter how much you make me forget Magnus I will remember him again. I will remember Jace."

"This time I'm not going to make you forget." She told him. Alec spun around to look at her but realized once his eyes met hers without the mirror that it was a mistake. Whatever power she held it started when he truly looked upon her. "This time I'll take his place. Every memory you have of Magnus will be me." She could feel him relax and soften to her. She kissed him as her magic flowed into him, replacing every memory he ever had with Magnus with one of her. Putting herself into Magnus's shoes, where Alec stood up for her time and time again, where Alec fought through clouds of demons just to get to her. And then memories of everyone he cared about turning from him for falling in love with a downworlder. Memories of Jace and him pulling apart, still connected but their bond strained as Robert's and Michael's had once been. This time she wouldn't make him forget his Shadowhunter self. The pull to the fight was too strong. This time she would just have Alec Lightwood love her and only her.

She used her magic, like the magic of her mother before her she could make anyone love her, but Alec Lightwood had proven to be harder than most. She pulled apart everyone of Alec's memories.

"Who was Magnus Bane?" she asked as she focused her magic on Alec her eyes locked on his.

He defiantly looked at her, "He is my boyfriend. I love him."

Lia found the moment Alec's mind flashed to a memory of Magnus, Magnus was sitting on a couch at a club, downworlders around him, touching him. Magnus smirked as his cat eyes locked on Alec's and for the first time Alec felt some warmth wash over him. Lia focused her magic and put herself in Magnus's place. She made him remember her on the couch looking at him and smiling, that she made him feel the way he did for the first time.

"Who was Magnus Bane?" she asked him again her eyes scanning his.

Alec kept his mind his own even as she started to rip it apart, he continued to glare at her, but was unable to move, "He is my boyfriend. I love him."

Lia pushed her magic back into his mind and saw all the imagine of Magnus in Alec's mind. His smile, she replaced it with hers, his eyes, she replaced it with hers, his laugh echoing through Alec's mind turned into hers.

"Stop." Alec felt Magnus slipping from him he tried to hold on to his memories, but she kept pushing herself into his mind.

"I love you." She whispered as she found a memory, she could remember herself. She saw Alec fighting through a cloud of demons on the oriental express, fighting his way to Magnus to stop a demon from taking him. She altered Alec's memory she still kept him fighting through a cloud of demons, but now he was fighting to her and instead of demons coming after her it was fairies. It was the unseelie kind coming for her and Alec was fighting to free her. She smiled as she imagined a life, she truly wished she had. She re-wrote a history that she wished were true.

She imagined what kind of life she could have had if Alec had met her a few years ago. That for the first time in her life someone had loved her for her. Someone hadn't cared what she was or what she was part of. Someone who could stand up to her father, someone that would fight for her.

"Who was Magnus Bane?" she asked again.

"He is-" Alec shook his head, "He is-" he struggled for words, "He is the high warlock of Brooklynn."

"Yes." Lia told him. She moved on to the next part of her plan. Trying to make Alec be blind to the shadow world, trying to make him be Ryan hadn't worked so perhaps it would be easier to allow him to be himself. Only she had to make him want to step away from everyone he loved. She put a new memory in his mind, a way to get him to turn from all Shadowhunters including his parabatai. She also knew that he had loved their children and that love would find a way through so she knew she could use that.

"Jace Herondale." She said softly, "Who is he?"

"My Parabatai." Alec told her, "My brother."

She showed Alec images of Jace telling him to leave the fairy girl he loved, to leave her. She showed Jace thinking less of him for falling for a downworlder. She showed his parents and sister turning from him. No Shadowhunter was alright with him loving a downworld especially a fairy. Then she got pregnant and his family didn't agree his family told him to end the pregnancy. They didn't. She allowed him to remember the twins being born. And then she added a new memory. The memory of Jace Herondale killing the babies.

"No!" Alec yelled out, "He wouldn't."

"Yes." She said softly forcing more of her magic into his mind. "He set our home on fire, you got me out, but couldn't save the babies." She felt him struggle through her magic for a moment more and then he seemed to relax. "Who is Jace Herondale?"

"He's my parabatai." Alec told her, "My enemy."
