KawaiiCutie12: So now that Vitani and Nuka have been saved, it's gonna be nothing but a long battle of recovery. Give the story a follow to come along on their journey🍃

+AbbyRaniIce: Anytime, and yeah my poor baby😔💔Yess, we love a badass woman(er, lioness😂)! As much as I don't enjoy it, I'd probably give it another shot if the dived deeper into that, ESPECIALLY on her life before exile. To tell you the truth, it's unknown. I say she is, because the directors/screenwriters only mentioning changing Kovu from Scar's son to his hand-chosen heir/stepson, but they don't mention changing Nuka or Vitani's relation to him; besides, anything possible in fanfics, like in my oneshot series where 'Tani and Kovu are superfecundation twins (twins with different dads) Okay, now I'M rambling😂😂I agree, not to mention that'd be kinda stabbing her in the back in a sense. Thank you so much omg😭❤❤and yess same especially with "creating your own perception of what is and what was". I'm glad you feel that way, and hopefully you writer some stories as well. Stay safe too! 😊💓

Chapter 12:

The night did no justice for Vitani. Having an already upset stomach and unnaturally high anxiety was never a great combo. Unfortunately, it seemed liked her body didn't care how tired and stressed she was; it insisted on dragging her down even more.

She had tried to fall asleep. Really. But the night terrors that plagued her caused her to have an anxiety attack that was keeping her stomach turned inside out. She had been sitting in front of the large bucket for what felt like an eternity.

I just wanna sleep already, she thought to herself. Can't I at least have that?

Unfortunately, her body had other plans. Feeling the pain worsen, she could do nothing as she threw up again. It felt like there was a hot knife carving into her abdomen, and all she could do was lose her lunch. She felt a warm paw move in circular motions on her back, and she didn't have to be a genius to know who it was holding her. After about five minutes, she got herself together for a moment.

"I-I'm sorry, D-Daddy."

This shocked Scar greatly. "What exactly are you sorry for, princess?" he asked her.

Vitani turned to him, and he mentally grimaced at how bloodshot her eyes had become. "F-For k-keeping you a-awake. Y-You can go back t-to sleep, y-ya know," Vitani stuttered out.

Scar rose a brow. "And just why would I go to sleep while you're up feeling terrible?"

She didn't say anything after that, but instead turned back and lowered her head. They stayed in that position for a moment, as Scar tried his best to comfort her, stroking her hair tuft. Not even a minute later, she snapped her head up. The feeling of nausea returned with a vengeance, and Vitani was already feeling the unpleasant effect coming up her throat.

She then felt his paw move back down to her back as she continued to spew out whatever the hell was exiting her mouth, her midsection practically on fire now. Everything that she had consumed was coming out of her so fast, she nearly choked at one point; it seemed like her stomach wanted absolutely nothing inside her. This continued on for quite a while, until she began dry heaving.

"Breath, Vitani, breath," she heard her father tell her.

Catching her breath, she settled down, and Scar looked to the bucket filled with stomach fluid. Emptying it out over the ledge, he turned to her.

"I'll be right back, princess."

Grabbing the bucket handle, he went to go and rinse out the smell, as Vitani lied there in agony. As he washed out the enlarged cylinder, he realized that she probably should've rinsed her mouth out. Scanning around, he noticed the fairly large curled leaf, and decided that'd be best to bring water in for Vitani.

Handle in his mouth, and tail wrapped around the leaf stem, he made his way back to the den, his eyes landing on his daughter. He set the bucket down, and dragged the leaf over to her smallish form.

"Here, all that vomiting isn't doing you any good," Scar commented, pushing the leaf towards her.

In desperation to get rid of the horrible taste and her thirst, she practically lunged for the leaf, only to be stopped by Scar.

"Drink slowly, and not too much, or you'll end up being sick again," he instructed.

Following his order, Vitani lapped up a bit of water, then leaned her head over the edge to spit it out. She then slowly drank some due to her extreme dehydration, and curled up next to her father, who began stroking her tuft again. Despite the nausea leaving, hot waves of pain kept rolling in her stomach. Hearing her whimper in pain broke Scar's heart.

He pulled her in an embrace. "It's gonna be okay, baby," he whispered, holding her in his forelegs, "I'm right here."

She just continued to whimper, until sleep finally took over. Scar looked down at her, and sadly smiled, before joining her in slumber.

Mother, keep your granddaughter in your prayers. She's not okay at the moment, and even though I know she's strong, she herself needs to be reminded of her strength.

The moment they set foot into Pride Rock, they were hit with a feeling of exhaustion. They neared their sleeping spot and noticed not just their son, but Kula curled up next to him as well. Walking closer, they also noticed that both cubs had puffy eyes, and matted faces. The king and queen looked at each other, concern growing.

"You don't think they found out, did they?" Sarabi asked her mate.

Mufasa sighed. "I hope not." A thought then crossed his head. "How would they have found out?"

Sarabi shrugged. "I'm not sure," she confessed, stroking their heads.

Mufasa settled himself in, as Sarabi continued to look down at her son and his friend. "Should we take Kula back to her mother?" she suddenly asked.

She watched her mate contemplate over it for a minute. "No, leave her be," he finally answered.

Sarabi nodded, licking both their heads. Settling in next to her husband, the two drifted off, keeping their niece and nephew in their prayers.

Morning came.

And so did Kovu and Kiara.

Sometime early in the morning, Zira had went to pickup her baby boy and his best friend from Kiara's pride. Now here she lay, in a cool den near the waterhole, the cubs curled up with her. Dread was still rolling around in her head, and she couldn't get any sleep. Getting up carefully, she went over to get a drink, and couldn't help but catch a glimpse of her reflection.

Her eyes were the reddest red possible, and her face looked entirely unkempt. She felt her stomach growl, for she could hardly eat knowing-well, thinking-that her kids had died; anytime she did...

She shuddered at the thought. She looked back to see the cubs still asleep. The sun should be rising soon, and since this cave was hidden, she didn't have to worry about being spotted. Looking into her reflection one last time, she dipped a paw in, cleaned herself up and when back to the cave, snuggling the two close. One thing was on her mid as she slept:

Will Kovu understand his siblings need us now more than ever?

The bright light burned into the prince's eyes, causing him to turn away. Not even a second later, he opened his eyes slowly, realizing his parents weren't in the den. The prince started to panic, and he tried to rationalize it.

Hmm...maybe they got up before me, when Kula and I went to bed...

He slowly turned to see the brown lioness cub, sleeping peacefully next to him. Flooded with confusion at first, pieces and pieces of yesterday came together like a puzzle. He carefully shook her awake, only enough that she'd be able to have a conversation with him.

"Mm, what is it, Simba?" she groggily asked, before realizing where she was. Before she could scream and wake up the Pride Lands, Simba clamped his paw over her mouth, getting her attention completely.

"Kula listen! My parents still aren't back yet," he whispered.

Last night became clear in Kula's mind, and the situation slowly dawned on her.

"That...that can't be right," Kula said after a while, "I mean, we were pretty worn out. They could've came back afterwards."

But Simba sill had his doubts. "But look." he pointed a claw towards the entrance of the den, and Kula looked towards the sun. "The sun's almost out completely. My mom sleeps in for a bit."

Realizing Simba's points, she began to panic as well. Simba pulled Kula into a hug, and Kula burst into tears again. "How many more people do we have to lose?"

First his cousins, then his parents. This was too much for the golden lion cub. He buried his face into Kula's shoulder, sobbing as well. They just sat there in a tight cuddle of anguish. It was almost like the Great Kings of the past pulled some kind of weird, sick, joke on the two, and there wasn't anything or anyone that could do anything about it.

"Simba?"

That voice.

No matter how old he got, he'd always recognize that voice.

He turned his head, and saw the lioness he'd admired since day one.

"Mom!"

"Sarabi!"

The two raced over, still in tears. Wrapping themselves at each one of her forelegs, Sarabi's alarm didn't go away. "What's wrong, why are you two crying?" she asked them.

Neither of them could find the words to speak, thus alarming the queen even more. Clearly something terrible had happened, because these two were not the type to cry over nothing.

"What's going on here?"

Sarabi turned to see her mate, staring with the same concern and fear in her face. Mufasa moved closer to the sobbing children, who showed no sign of stopping the waterworks.

"D-Dad...w-we thought..." Simba couldn't even form a sentence.

"What is it, son? You can tell me," Mufasa comforted him, just as Sarabi was doing to Kula.

"W-We thought you guys were dead, too," Kula choked out.

They stopped in their tracks hearing that. Where would they get an idea like that? And "too"? Did they know about Nuka and Vitani? Before either one could ask, Zazu came flying in, stating that Zira returned with Kovu and Kiara. Turning back, they told the cubs to stay either up there or in the den. The cubs were confused, but didn't question it. The king and queen walked down Pride Rock, and went to greet Zira.

Scar stirred around for a bit, before cracking his eyes open. He barely got any sleep last night, due to trying to console his daughter. It was at about the crack of dawn that she managed to get to sleep. After a long night of being sick and having nightmares (that often resulted in her getting physical), she finally crashed. Scar couldn't help but think of his son. He was in a coma, and there was a great possibility that he could easily give up...

He pushed those thoughts away, and left for a moment. After doing his business and grooming himself, he thought about how him and Zira would tell Kovu about his sister. Speaking of which, she hadn't stirred a bit. Although she was a light sleeper, the incident that had taken place clearly took an incredible toll on her. Staring down at her, that familiar bittersweet feeling came back to him. One one hand, he was happier than ever that she was back home; the other, however, was worried about her. Would she recover? Would she resent Nuka? Would she still hate him and Zira-

A small groan distracted him for a minute. He looked at Vitani, who was slowly starting to wake up. Slowly stirring a bit, she cracked her eyes open a bit. "D-Daddy?"

He stroked her head. "How are you feeling, princess?" he asked her.

Vitani opened her mouth to answer, but her face contorting in pain interrupted.

"What is it, angel?" he scanned her worriedly.

"My head hurts real bad," she whispered, "the light is only making it worse."

Scar leaned towards her. "Just lie your head back down," Scar softly said, rubbing his paw on her head. "It'll be alright."

There was a calming silence. Too bad it only lasted for a minute.

A familiar gut feeling overcame the young lioness cub. "I'm gonna puke again," she groaned, the color draining from her face.

Within a second, she found her head in the bucket again. Due to her weakened state, she could barely lift her head up, and needed her father's help. Scar, like the night before, stayed by her side and comforted her.

How the hell does she even have anything left? Scar thought to himself.

Scar knew her pain all too well. Up until he was about Nuka's age, he suffered from intense migraines. Plagued with nausea and light sensitivity, he mostly slept and stayed in the shade. Unfortunately, he must have passed that down to his daughter, who was now suffering the effects.

"It hurts so bad," Vitani groaned, burying her face in her forelegs.

"I know, baby." He nuzzled her head. "I'm going to go get you some water; just stay there in case you get sick again."

Vitani slowly nodded, and Scar walked off towards the waterhole. The leaf was luckily still there, and he wasted no time in submerging it below water. Wrapping the stem around his tail again, he turned to head back to his den. A familiar scent in the wind made him stop in his tracks, however.

He turned towards the direction it came from, scanning the area.

I'd recognize that scent anywhere...

Before he got a chance to follow the scent, it disappeared into the wind. Slightly frustrated, he just settled for returning to the den and looking after Vitani.

It was no surprise that she was still coughing up her stomach contents. He knew she couldn't help it, but the continuous retching sound was truthfully getting to him. Scar put the water a little bit beside him, and went over to somehow comfort his daughter.

"You'll feel better once you get it all out," he reassured her, patting her back softly.

And for the next ten minutes or so, she continued to do just that. Finally, at a certain point, her stomach was entirely empty, and she knew it. Repeating the same thing as last night, she rinsed out her mouth, then drank a little bit to keep herself hydrated.

Scar grabbed her by the scruff and moved her into the shade. Plopping down next to her, she practically buried herself in his fur. There was a lack of noise for a short amount of time, until Scar felt her body shaking.

"It's alright, Vitani, it's alright," he whispered, stroking her hair tuft, "you're okay now, we're here."

She was unaffected by the words, and all Scar could do was watch as she convulsed and cried.

Zira stood just outside of the den they camped out in, nothing but nerves swirling inside her.

"So...I'll see ya later, Kovu," Kiara said to the brown lion cub. She then looked up at Zira. "Thanks for bringing me here, Auntie."

Zira weakly smiled. "Anytime love."

Kiara turned and walked off, leaving the mother-son duo to stare at the den for a bit longer.

"Follow me, Kovu, we're going to see Rafiki," she quietly ordered.

They walked up to Rafiki's tree, and slowly climbed. At first, there was no sign of Rafiki. Practically a microsecond later, he appeared from what seemed like thin air.

"Good morning, Zira," he greeted her. His gaze moved downwards as he smiled. "and young Kovu, of course."

Zira didn't say anything. Kovu, looked up at the mandrill

"Are Nuka and 'Tani okay?"

The mandrill's smile faded from his face. Zira took notice, and Kovu prepared for the worst.

"Dey're...not in de best shape," Rafiki honestly, but vaguely answered.

Kovu wanted to ask more, but something in Rafiki's eyes told him he was better off not knowing the full extent.

Zira looked down at Kovu. "Stay here, baby."

Kovu frowned. "But I wanna see Nuka too."

Zira sighed, and met Kovu in the middle. "Tell you what: I'll go in, and if he's not looking too bad, then I'll call you in. How's that sound?"

Kovu smiled. "Deal."

The tan lioness followed the mandrill to the room Nuka was in, and tried to calm her nerves. Rafiki stopped suddenly, and slowly turned to her.

"I didn't want to interfere with your conversation between you and your boy, but I think tis best if he stays out there."

She solely nodded her head, her voice growing quiet. "I know, I just didn't want him to feel even more scared or upset."

Rafiki hummed in realization, and Zira walked into where her son lied. In all honesty, she was so intent on bringing them back to the Pride Lands and getting them taken care of, she didn't really take a good look at his injuries and what the leopon did to her oldest baby.

And the sight was horrifying.

***Graphic description of his injuries. Wasn't going to put a trigger warning over this, butttt there's a lot of weak-minded individuals out there***

The bruises along his ribs made them stick out even more, and the dried up blood on his lip made Zira's heart ache. A bit of his mohawk was torn, and the cuts that Rafiki treated still looked like mangled flesh. The twigs and leaves that were holding him together had some dried up blood, and the sight was honestly nauseating.

***Kay, don't cry, you're safe***

Zira's eyes brimmed with tears as she nuzzled her oldest. He'd been nothing but loyal to her, yet this was how she repaid him. The guilt was now starting to break free, and she buried her face in her oldest's mohawk before sobbing. Rafiki had long left, so it was just her and her son. She had known the damage was bad, but this...

This was gruesome.

She was so overwhelmed with the state of her firstborn, the deal she made with her youngest flew out the other ear. It hurt her to do this, but there was no way she could allow Kovu to see Nuka like this. She knew how much he loved his brother, but this would stick with him for life.

"My baby...I'm so sorry," she whispered to him, licking his head.

With a final nuzzle, she walked out to find Rafiki and Kovu talking.

"But what if they don't forgive me?"

Rafiki looked at Kovu with his signature grin. "Let me tell you something." he watched as Kovu tuned in. "Dey are one of, if not de most forgiving animals I know in all of Africa. Not to mention, dey love you a great deal."

Kovu's emeralds shone. "They do?"

Rafiki nodded, and his heart warmed when Kovu smiled.

"That's absolutely right, Rafiki."

They turned their gaze to Zira, watching them warmly. Kovu ran up to her to nuzzle her leg, then noticed her faltering expression.

"I can't see Nuka, can I?" was Kovu's next statement.

Zira took a deep breath, and shook her head. Kovu lowered his gaze, until a thought crossed his head.

"I can still see 'Tani though, right?"

Zira's mind drew a blank. She had been so worried about her son, that she completely forgot that her daughter was also in a bad state. Repeating the same deal she made with Nuka, she thanked Rafiki and climbed down the tree.

They neared the den, and Zira looked at Kovu. "Remember the deal?"

Kovu nodded. "I can't wait to see her...if I can."

They set a foot into the entrance and stopped. The smell of bile smacked them in the face.

"Ugh, I think 'Tani was sick," Kovu commented, the smell getting to him.

"Most likely," Zira replied, trying to fight off the smell.

They stood there with their paws over their noses, the smell sickeningly overwhelming.

"I have to wait out here again, don't I?" Kovu asked, scratching his nose to rid of the smell.

Zira looked at him, the rancid aroma starting to weaken. "Why don't you go play with Simba and Kula?"

Taking the hint, Kovu sauntered over to Pride Rock. Zira fearfully walked into the den

Walking inside, she found Scar stroking a very sickly looking Vitani, who was lying curled in a ball; she didn't appear to be awake. As she slowly got closer, she noticed her eyes were immensely puffy and her face had a greenish pallor to it; looking back at her mate, she realized Scar had bags under his eyes.

"Scar."

He rose his head, and their eyes locked. For a moment, no one said anything. Well, Vitani couldn't speak.

"Zira..."

They walked over to each other and nuzzled. They stayed in that position for a bit, taking in each other's touch and scent.

"I...I took Kovu to see Nuka," she whispered, "but he looked too awful, and I couldn't let him see his brother like that."

This worried Scar. He had yet to visit his son again; Vitani had been in such agony, he couldn't leave her, and she was obviously in no condition to travel.

Scar caught her off guard with a lick on her cheek. "None of this should've happened, and it's not your fault. Only those bastards that did this."

Zira blinked in surprise, and Scar halfheartedly chuckled. "You're very easy to read, my dear."

Zira didn't say anything. Instead, she turned her gaze to her daughter, who was starting to stir.

"How is she?"

Scar didn't say anything for a bit. He then turned to look at Vitani, then back at his mate.

"She spent most of the night either having an anxiety attack, or losing her lunch."

Maternal instincts Zira didn't know she possessed kicked in, and she walked over to her. "Vitani?"

She didn't answer, and Zira looked to Scar. He mouthed the word "migraine" and she slowly nodded her head. Just then, Vitani stirred and slowly opened her eyes, looking at the tan lioness.

"M-Mom." It came out as more of a statement, rather than a question.

Zira was in a trance, and she only snapped back into reality when she heard her little voice.

"Hey, angel," she softly greeted.

Thinking it'd be best to leave the females alone, he slowly leaned down to his daughter. "I'll be back, princess," he whispered in her ear. "I'm just going to go see your brother."

Assuming she heard him, he got up and slowly made his way out the den. Zira watched him walk for a minute, before turning back to their daughter.

"Vitani, I know you probably still resent me right now," she began, attempting to ease the slight tension, "but I want you to know that I'm here. Always, Vitani."

Not knowing what to say, she just laid there curled in a ball, practically unresponsive. Zira stroked her hair tuft, which seemed to soothe her for a few minutes. Not too long after, sniffling noises drew Zira's attention to her baby girl.

"What is it, Vitani?" Zira asked, nuzzling her head.

Vitani looked at her, tears pouring out her bloodshot eyes, and Zira felt her heart squeeze at the sight. "Everything," she wept, "I threw up all night and I still feel like I'm gonna puke, my head's killing me, everything hurts all over, and...and..." She dropped her head in her forelegs again.

Zira ran her paw up and down Vitani's back as her body wracked with heartwrenching sobs. She had never seen Vitani so emotional before, and it was genuinely pretty scary.

"Vitani, look at me."

She looked back up at her mother with tear-filled eyes, and Zira almost wanted to take back even asking her to.

"Who was it that hurt you?" she lightly asked.

Vitani looked at her for a moment. "A lion with spots," she whispered, as if he was right outside.

A lion with spots...a leopon?

Disregarding the species, she pressed on. "How did he hurt you, Vitani?"

The tufted lioness cub immediately shook her head. "I don't wanna talk about it," she flatly answered.

Despite wanting to know, she saw her daughter still wasn't ready, and therefore didn't push her.

She'd never seen Vitani so lifeless and before, not even the time that Kopa had fallen severely ill.

She reached over to stroke her body, and she felt even shittier when Vitani recoiled at her touch. Softly sighing, she laid next to her, and watched her chest slightly rise. Once Vitani dozed off again, she she rested her own head in her forelegs.

Scar sauntered over to Rafiki's tree, giving him time to think about what to do next. Never in a million years did he think this would happen to one of his kids, let alone two of them.

He was absorbed in this thoughts, he didn't hear the other lion coming towards him.

"Scar."

He turned to see his older brother, slowly approaching him.

"Sarabi and I are here for you, if you guys need anything," Mufasa sincerely stated.

Scar gave a weak smile, though his eyes had a certain glint to it. "Thank you, Mufasa. Maybe you old ones aren't so bad."

Mufasa shoved him. "Hey, at least we get to boss you little ones around."

They lightly chuckled, before Mufasa resumed his serious expression. "But in all realness, did you catch up with Zira?"

Scar nodded, and Mufasa asked his next question. "How's Nuka? Any sign of improvement?"

Scar shrugged. "I haven't gotten around to seeing him," he answered, "in fact, I was headed there now."

Mufasa nodded. "How's Vitani?"

He looked to his den for a moment, then turned back and sighed. "She's been vomiting all night," he said, voice full of concern, "and now she's got a nasty migraine. Zira's watching over her now, however."

"Good Kings" was Mufasa's quick, but pitiful response.

"In a simpler sense," he looked to his brother, "She's downright miserable."

Mufasa's heart felt heavy. Vitani was like his daughter, and hearing her condition didn't help it.

He ended up joining Scar to Rafiki's tree, and the mandrill was already waiting for them.

"Here to see Nuka, I assume?" he asked.
The two nodded, and followed Rafiki to the secluded room. Scar's nerves were getting to him, and Mufasa seemed to take notice. Stopping, he placed a paw on his little brother.

"Breathe, Scar, breathe," he quietly coaxed him.

After a few deep breaths, he calmed himself enough to go into the room. Nuka's condition didn't seem to change, and Scar was starting to lose it again. With the help of Mufasa, he regained control and stroked his mohawk.

"Mufasa."

The red maned lion looked up at his brother, rubies meeting emeralds.

"What is it, brother?" he questioned.

"I'd like a moment alone with my son."

Nodding his head, he walked out with Rafiki, who gave him a questioning glance.

"Scar wants a moment alone with Nuka," he explained to his friend.

Rafiki hummed, and motioned Mufasa to follow him out. "While he speaks with his son, we can chat outside."

They walked out, leaving the father-son duo to themselves.

Scar stared down at his son, taking a deep breath.

"Nuka, can you hear me?"

No response. He sighed, stroking his son's small mohawk. "I assumed you wouldn't answer. I don't know if you can hear me or not, but if you're able to, listen to me closely."

He took a deep breath, trying to keep his emotions in check. "I know I haven't been the greatest to you, and I understand why you feel the way you do. I was a terrible father to you and completely pushed you aside, even as a cub. I always seemed annoyed every time you messed up on something, and I never seemed to want to play with you the way I did Vitani and Kovu. The truth is..." he stopped, recollecting himself. "My own father and I were never close. I got pushed to the side, and I started to withdraw myself from everyone, except the hyenas and my mother of course. As idiotic as this may sound...I didn't know how to be a father. Since my own neglected me, I was clueless on how to interact with you. Truth be told, I was a little scared. I didn't want to mess up the same way my own father did, so I kept my distance. But clearly that didn't work." He bitterly chuckled at that, then regained focus.

"If anything, it set us farther apart, and you may not believe this, but I hate it. It feels like I didn't even know who my own son was, and it sucks. It truly does. It wasn't until Vitani and Kovu were born that I realized not to make the same mistake. I couldn't bring myself to try and mend our relationship, because I thought you hated me."

He stopped, staring at his son's form. His injuries only added to his guilt, and it didn't take long for Scar's emotions to get the better of him. "I know you may not believe me, but I wish I could take it back. I know I don't spend a lot of time with you, and I seem to favor Vitani and Kovu, but the truth is..."

He calmed himself, tears threatening to spill. "You're everything anyone could ever want in a son. You're trustworthy, loyal, kind, accepting, and you always cheer up anyone that's down. I couldn't ask for anything more."

Stroking his mohawk again, he sighed deeply. "Sure, you mess up, but nobody's perfect. And that's okay. Everyone, I included, still cares about you, and I hope you see that someday..."

He couldn't control himself anymore. Burying his face into his son's small mane, he let his tears drop and began to sob. "I'm sorry, Nuka. I really am. I love you, my son, and I promise that when you wake up, I'm going to be a better dad to you," he shakily whispered.

Licking his son's head, he stared down at him one more time. Recollecting himself, he headed out to where Rafiki and Mufasa were.

I'll show you, Father. I may have messed up this time, but I'll prove to be a better father than you ever were.
