Chapter Twenty-Eight
Outside the door…
Alan was just as nervous as Stan was, as he had no idea as to what he would do when he finds out the truth and what it might mean for all the work that he has done with his friend and business partner.
'No matter what happens, Stan is still my friend and I need him to just talk to me and tell the truth.'
When Stan opened the door, both men did their best to appear like nothing is going on at the present but both knew that it wasn't the case. It was something that Stan knew that was coming but he decided to just have a chat with Alan and try to pretend that everything is normal, like he has always done.
"Are you okay, Alan? You look exhausted, what have you been up to since I went on that trip?" Stan asked, wondering as to what cause his friend to be so tired and stressed and he almost didn't want to know.
"Uh, well, you would be stressed too if you had to deal with your oldest being kidnapped from a crime scene at the Olson Bank, then to have your daughter-in-law to being forced to find some research for god knows what and then to have your other daughter-in-law to give birth in all the stress, and then waiting to hear on your son's condition after he and Amita were rescued and worrying for their mental wellbeing as well as their physical health!" Alan said, just barely keeping himself together as the events of the past few days were just hitting him.
Stan sat in his chair, in shock from what his old friend had just told him, something he had feared would happen, having family members taken just like that, and what he was trying to avoid.
'Lawson assured me that no one would hurt anyone in either Alan's family or mine but why now, though?'
"Alan, do you have any idea as to why the Olson bank had a body?" Stan asked, mostly because he and Alan worked on it but Lawson didn't have anything to do with it at the time.
'As far as I know, anyway.' Stan lamented in his thoughts
"Because my son has been investigating a series of bodies being found in multiple buildings, ones that we have worked on over the years." Alan said
"Oh," Stan said, realizing that he should tell his friend as to what has been happening but still not sure what say first.
"Stan." Alan said in a sad voice
'Oh, no' Stan thought, realizing that his friend had figured out a part of his involvement in everything
"Stan, do you know anything about this? Please tell me that you aren't and if you are, why?" Alan pleaded
Stan breathed as he made his choice
"I'm sorry Alan, I should have told you a long time ago as to what has been happening when you first retired."
"Tell me, I will put a good word in for you when this is over." Alan said gently
"All right." Stan said, as he couldn't believe he was about to confess something that has been hovering over him for all these years.
"I'll tell you and the FBI what you need to know."
