Fred, George and Haidee caught a carriage ride up to Hogwarts with Ron, Harry and Hermione. Fred had explained their experience with the creature that boarded the train, how the window frosted over and the beast drifted before their carriage window that faced the hallway.
It was then Harry who explained that their experience was much more eventful. The creature, which was cloaked in black drapes, their hands skeletal and their faces were hidden under a dark hood, was known as a Dementor. Creatures that guarded the Azkaban prison. Some left their place at Azkaban on the order of the Ministry to search for Sirius Black. Some were ordered to hover over Hogwarts in anticipation that Sirius would come in the hunt for Harry.
They had come into Harry's carriage, causing him to faint. Luckily, in their carriage, the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher was there, Professor Lupin, who Haidee had first seen when descending from the train.
"Is it true, Harry? You fainted? You actually fainted?" Malfoy said as they all exited their bewitched carriages that carried them to Hogwarts castle.
"Shove off, Malfoy," Ron replied, guiding Harry away from the scene. Malfoy swaggered as he swirled the sweet Haidee had given him in his mouth. She recognised him from the train.
"Malfoy? The boy from last year? Isn't he the one who came into our carriage when the Dementor passed?" Haidee asked Fred, unaware of the drama that question would cause.
"Yeah, he looked as if he was about to wet himself," Fred said, purposefully loud so that he could hear. Malfoy scowled at the comment, a look of hate falling upon Haidee and Fred as they marched past while Ron laughed.
The Great Hall and the feast were as magical as always. The enchanted ceiling and the mimicked the night sky outside and the floating candles all made Haidee feel at home once again.
School had begun as normal with no repercussions of the last year with the opening of the Chamber. It had seemed that the rumours of the previous year had disintegrated over the holidays, and the new gossip to spread the school was the relationship between Fred Weasley and Haidee Deirdre.
Haidee never knew that her relationship status would be such an interest to the school, especially considering that they had been together at school before and no such gossip had spread. However, the school was preoccupied with the rumours of the Chamber to be interested in the popular larrikin Gryffindor and the odd Hufflepuff's relationship.
It was not hard to discover why the news had spread across the school so quickly as Fred had no intention of hiding it. He would sweep her into his arms as she walked through hallways, tackle her into tickle fights, hold her hand in crowded areas and peck her spontaneously in class; her favourite of which had become Defence Against the Dark Arts instead of Potions, strickly because of their new teacher: Professor Lupin.
He made the class fun and was never shy to answer questions kindly and properly. He had warned their class of the Dementors that would be roaming the school and how they were nothing to fear; however if in close proximity of them, to eat chocolate as it would make them feel better.
The Dementors were above the Quiddich pitch when Haidee was out to watch the Gryffindor team practice for their upcoming game with the Slytherins. Haidee had sat in the stands as they practised, a textbook by her side just in case, watching anticipatingly as Fred dodged and swung at the Bludger. He was magnificent, as was the rest of the team. Harry was brilliant, zooming through the sky after the snitch and dodging other players and Bludgers. George was brilliant, also, often with a stronger swing and more accurate aim than Fred.
Once the practice was over, Haidee hurried down to the field as they exited. She greeted Harry as he passed, offering him a new sweet she had made. "It's rejuvenating," she added, making Harry smile as he took one, unwrapped it and ate it. Instantly, he stopped panting and lifted his posture, the dark circles under his eyes lightened and he smiled at her.
"Wow, Haidee. Thank you." He was about to leave when she stopped him.
"Take them to your team. I already have one for Fred," she said. He nodded in thanks and left with the bag of sweets in his hand. Fred was still on the field, fiddling with his broom. "Here, have a sweet," said Haidee as she approached him.
Without hesitation, he grabbed the sweet, not bothering to ask what flavour it was or what it did, and popped it into his mouth. Instantly, his body felt lighter and the smile widened on his lips.
"Blimey, Haidee, these are brilliant," he smiled widely, rolling the sweet around his tongue. He stood in the middle of the field with one hand on his broom, with a look of mischief in his eye and no intention to leave the pitch just yet. In a swift motion, he mounted his broom.
"Get on," he smirked, nudging his head towards the back of the broom. Haidee's eyes turned soft and she smiled at her boyfriend for his attempt to persuade her but shook her head, laughing kindly at his courage. He knew she wouldn't get on the broom willingly, but he thought he'd ask first. "Come on, it'll be fun," he laughed.
"Again, I think we have very different ideas of what fun is," she replied. He smiled at her and got off the broom, walking towards her as casually as he could as to not raise suspicions, which had worked. She thought he had given up, going to take her hand and lead her out of the Quidditch pitch and back into the castle, but she was very wrong. At the moment before he passed her, with a movement so swift and prepared, he wrapped his arm around Haidee's waist and placed her upon the broom before jumping on himself and kicking off.
It was so fast, she barely recognised what had happened until she felt the wind gushing past her face and she could no longer feel the ground beneath her feet. At the moment of recognition, she wrapped her hands so tightly around Fred, he thought he might pop. Instantly, feeling fear bombard her as she stared at the Quidditch pitch that seemed to get smaller and smaller, she pressed her face into Fred's back, trying to steady her breathing as her heart raced with fright.
Fred, however, was having the time of his life. His laughter roared with the wind and she heard him clearly as the air forced its way through her hair as they flew. He sounded like pure joy.
"Open your eyes, Haidee," he called to her against the wind. "It's beautiful!"
She had pressed her face into Fred's back so fast she hadn't even the chance to glace around the beautiful nature that was before her.
"I'm sure I will get the same view from the Owlery," she announced, just loud enough for him to hear.
"Don't make me come back there," he said mockingly, but the joke was all too real for her.
"You take one hand off of this broom, Fred, and I shall never speak to you again," she said in the mists of her fear, burying her face into his back further, scared that he would not take her threat literally.
"Now, Haidee, that is a risk I am not willing to take," he said more softly. "I would never get any more sweets." Haidee playfully smacked his back causing him to laugh. It was a beautiful laugh. She was sure he looked just as beautiful.
It seemed that she was missing many beautiful things due to her fear. The view of Hogwarts, so antique and mysterious in the dusk light. The landscape: the mountains, vast and shadowed. The lake, glistening and still. The Forbidden Forest, so green and mystical.
Hesitation writhing through her as she felt herself being hurled through the sky, she lifted her face from Fred's back in an attempt to fully experience the moment. Her eyes flooded with light, blinding her momentarily before revealing nature at it's finest.
Fred, who had felt Haidee lift her face from his back, slowed down, almost to a hover, so she could devour the experience.
She was overwhelmed by the ethereal beauty of the land, staring into nature from the sight of a bird, she saw how vast and grand it really was. She could see the entirety of Hogwarts from that height, she swore she could see every inch of the castle. All of it's hidden mysteries were no longer hidden to her from there. The Forbidden Forest didn't seem so threatening from their distance and the lake held an aura of divinity as it reflected the dying light, making it glisten like a diamond.
Fred had turned to see her expression as she stared at the view, and his own smile widened at the pure ecstasy on her face. Her smile so genuine and indifferent, her cheeks rosy from the exhilaration and for the first time, Fred could see her entire face.
The wind had pushed her hair back, exposing her eyes to Fred as she awed over the view and then back to Fred. She was so entranced by what she saw that she forgot about her eyes and her need to hide them, so much so, that she made direct eye contact with Fred and the thought had never crossed her mind.
Her eyes were like nothing he had ever seen before and he struggled to keep his expression from changing. He watched her eyes as they followed their surroundings; her right eye black, so dark that even in the light, he could see no pigment like an empty void. Her left eye, nevertheless, was a dull green with the hint of silver slithers through it that shone like metal in the light. Her eyes were entrancing, or maybe it was the shock of seeing her entire face for the first time, but he didn't want to look away.
She turned to him after she absorbed the view and smiled widely, letting out a laugh of joy as she did, feeling so overwhelmed. Fred joined, laughing with her until her laugh turned into a scream and she instantly felt her cling onto him as tight as he possibly could. He had let the broom drop, the two of them falling through the air, but Fred's laugh continued to split the wind. Right before they hit the ground, he paused the broom and they jerked to a stop. Haidee's quivering hands held onto Fred for dear life even though they were safely hovering just above the ground.
Fred got off the broom first once he managed to unravel himself from Haidee's grip. He took her hand and helped her off of the broom, holding it under his arm as he led her off of the pitch. The walk together and he listened to Haidee raving about the view and rush she got from flying, her smile as wide as he had ever seen it.
"So you're not mad at me?" he asked, raising an eyebrow as they walked.
"Well, I suppose I can't be, can I?" she asked with a smile. He smiled and pressed a kiss to her forehead, looking down on her as they walked.
"I think your eyes are beautiful," he stated confidently, before he could even properly process what he was saying. Haidee hadn't registered the words automatically, it took her a moment to decipher the problem with his sentence; but when she did, she stopped. Fred's hand slipped from hers before turning to her.
"W-what?" she stuttered, taking a small step back.
"Your eyes, they're beautiful."
"My eyes. Y-you saw m-my eyes?" she faltered. "Oh my gosh."
"No, no they're magnificent. I don't know why you hide them," he smiled, walking towards her. She wanted to take a step back, but the smile on his lips was so familiar and his aura so warm, she couldn't. He grabbed her hand in his and rubbed it with his thumb, before reaching up and playing with the ends of her hair.
She never let him touch her hair. He would reach for her hair many times, just to play with or touch but as if it were instinct, she flinched away instantly. He liked the feel of her hair, the curly ringlets that fell from her shoulders, the softness of the frizz. He reached up and touched her fringe and she tried her best not to move away. He pushed her fringe back, her eyes showed fear and worry but the smile Fred displayed when he saw her coloured eyes made her lose a small sense of worry.
He tried to push it back, but it had been over her eyes for all her life, and the second he took her hand away it fell back over her eyes causing Haidee to smile.
"I think you're the only one that admires my eyes," she states softly.
"That's because no one else has seen them." He tried to push her hair back one last time and just as before, it fell back into place. "It seems that your hair doesn't want your eyes to be seen just as much as you don't."
"We share similar fears," she added as a whisper, so soft she could barely hear it herself. Fred was never meant to hear it, and that was why she was glad he hadn't for after she spoke, he grabbed her hand and kissed its back, leading her back to Hogwarts.
