The thick silence in that overcame the room was deadly, tipping everyone just over the edge. It hung in the air like the suspended moment before a falling glass shatters on the ground. It was like a ticking time-bomb, a gaping void desperately needing to be filled with sounds, words, anything to make the atmosphere less tense over what had just happened. Fragments of thoughts, splinters of words and droplets of quietness spun into a rapid jumble, which shifted in its core and shook up the room that left each of them feeling completely breathless.
With her shaky, sweaty hands, Bonnie slowly releases her grip from Damon's shoulders. Her breath hitches rapidly as she shuts her eyes and opens it multiple times. Seconds later she shifts her gaze up to Damon who held a strong gaze at a furious and hurt looking Enzo. Twenty-four hours ago she only knew him as dead, gone forever, but here he is, standing before her, haven witnessed her and Damon kiss. The idea of this happening four years ago almost seemed like a taboo, but a lot has changed since then. She once saw Enzo as her world, her future and her love, but as she looked at him then, she simply no longer saw the same, and she then begins to question over and over in her head if she really truly loved him back then or was she just desperately afraid of being alone.
"Is this some kind of joke?" Enzo speaks up a while later, breaking the silence in the room. "Caroline was too busy distracting me out there so you two could do whatever you wanted in here?" he scoffs, shaking his head in disbelief.
Caroline quickly clears her throat and steps into the room. " Enzo, i think we should-" She went to grab Enzo's arm from behind, but before she could, he quickly shoves her away.
"Don't you dare fucking touch me!" he turns around and shoots her daggers, before turning his attention back to Damon and Bonnie. "You know when Madam Estelle brought me back I was thrilled, I thought I finally had a second chance after Stefan killed me four years ago, but it wasn't me that you wanted back is it?... I wonder how long this has been going on with you two, were you sleeping with him when I was alive to?-"
"Alright, that's enough" Damon snarls, quickly cutting him off his sentence.
"Damon" Bonnie sighs, but he quickly ignores her and takes a step towards Enzo.
"You know you were such a threat to me when I knew you were dead, but now that you're back its about time you hear this" Damon mutters, placing his arms to his side as he slowly approaches him. "Things have changed between now and four years ago. Bonnie may have loved you then, but she was never in love with you, and if you think she's gonna go back to you now then you're mistaken. I'm the love of her life, its always been me, and deep down you knew it too...".
As Damon finishes the last of his sentence, Enzo quickly uses his vamp speed to charge him, and the two quickly brought back into a fight.
Distressed and with her head over the place, Bonnie quickly rushes over to them while muttering a spell to quickly force the two apart on either side of the bedroom.
"That's enough!" she breathes out, lifting her hand up.
As silence fills the room once again, she turns to look at Caroline and Enzo, before finally turning her head back around to look at Damon who gazes at her with deep and heavy eyes. With everything that is happening with Elena, they thought that it couldn't get more complicated, that is until Enzo came back into the picture. Despite knowing how furious he would get, she knew she had to talk to Enzo alone, she had to let him know about her feelings for Damon and explain things in a way that would no longer be so complicated, even though that seemed impossible.
Moments later, the expression on Damon's face begins to change, almost as if he instantly knew what she is thinking. "Bonnie-"
Before he could utter his next word, Bonnie quickly turns to Enzo and chants a quick spell, using her magic to send the both of them to a different location across town.
As the cold night's breeze suddenly etches against her bare skin, Bonnie rapidly opens her eyes to see that she had sent them just a little outside town. She then turns to face Enzo, who looks around his surroundings, before returning her gaze.
"I had to send us here... so we could talk alone" she says.
"You and Damon said all the talking you needed to back there" he replies in an almost disgusted tone. He pauses for a little while as he gazes deeply at her. "Did he brainwash you? did he someway find some way to compel you, because this isn't you, this isn't-
"You know there's no way he can compel me, Enzo-"
"Then what the bloody hell are you doing with him?!" he yells finally losing his patience. "He's married, and you still had an affair with him? not only that but are you forgetting every awful thing he's done to you, how he made your life miserable?. He did not care about your happiness in any way, you were just a tool to him whenever he needed something that benefited him. We had our life planned out Bonnie, if I hadn't died would you have cheated on him with me?" he questioned, raising his voice at her.
"I understand that you're hurt, but you are not going to yell at me, Enzo" Bonnie snaps, tightening her fists. "You don't know what's happened ever since you died-"
"And you wanted me to stay dead didn't you?" he scoffs, cutting her off her sentence. "So you could bring back the man who killed me while you continue to fuck his brother. You know I never thought you and Elena had anything in common, but it was right there all along".
Annoyed by his comment, Bonnie quickly lifts her hand and slaps him across the face. She then presses her lips tightly together and stares up at him, as he looks elsewhere with his head turned to the side.
"I am not some cheap whore who sleeps with everyone that gives her attention" she snarls irritatingly, tilting her head to the side. "After you died I left town because I couldn't cope. I traveled the world for four years and did everything I could to distract myself from the loss I felt from losing you. I settled in San Francisco and then decided to come back to town for a little while, and I had finally moved on. I know you won't begin to understand and don't want to either, but I'm in love with Damon. We had an affair, and I feel guilty about that, because I never meant to hurt Elena, but I'm done feeling guilty about loving him. I know that's something you don't wanna hear, but its true... I can't change the way that I feel".
A heavy eerie feeling slowly fills his chest as he listens to each word that leaves her mouth. Afterwards, he then turns to face her.
"D-Do you love him more than me?" he asks.
When she refuses to answer, he immediately knew the answer. Its hard to believe that its his Bonnie standing in-front of him. His Bonnie that was so thankful and grateful of him, his Bonnie that loved him endlessly, His Bonnie that put him first and his Bonnie that couldn't wait to spend the rest of her life with him. Back then, he didn't want to fully admit to himself that there could've been some unspoken feelings between her and Damon because of Elena, he didn't want to admit that if he wasn't in the picture they would've realized their love for each other earlier. In a way he felt like he was the thing stopping them from realizing their love for each other, he felt as if his death had then brought them closer together, even though it took four years for it to happen, and as hurt as he is, he felt more and more angry by the second.
"I'm sorry, Enzo" Bonnie sighs, going to take a step towards him.
"Do you really believe that he'll give you everything that you want and need in life? everything that I promised to give you and more?" he questions, staring down at her. "He's impulsive and he destroys everything around him. You really think most of all that he won't go back to Elena and hurt you in the process? he's been obsessed with her since the first day he met her... its her, not you. So how long do you expect this to go on?".
Bonnie swallows a lump in her throat and slowly shuts her eyes while trying to drown out that thought. Although she trusts Damon and is ready to be with him, there's still that doubt at the back of her mind that she won't ever be enough of him all because of Elena. He's given her many reasons to push that doubt aside, but with Damon and Elena, you could never really know what will happen, and that scared her more than anything.
"Him and Elena are getting a divorce" she mutters, pushing her hair aside.
"And then what? you live happily ever with him? you know deep down that that's impossible. Damon Salvatore is not someone you live happily ever with and build a life with, he's not someone that sticks to a woman, no matter how many promises he made to you. He couldn't even make his marriage with the one true love of his life work. You know deep down that he will someday hurt you and you're just praying for it not to happen. You have doubts with him, but can you honestly look at me and say that you felt the same about me?... its because I gave you no reason to have any doubts about us".
"I have no doubts about Damon and I" Bonnie scoffs, shifting her eyes away.
"You're lying... and I could always tell when you're lying".
As she stood frozen listening to his words, he slowly takes a step towards her and places a soft kiss on her forehead. Once he pulls away moments later, he looks past her to see Damon stood behind them gazing at him furiously, leaving him stunned at how it didn't take him long to find them.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Bonnie quickly shoves Enzo by his chest, before taking a step back from him. She's about to speak up till she felt Damon's presence from behind her, and she quickly turns around to face him.
"Are you done trying to drive Bon and I apart, because I promise you its not gonna work" with an irritable enraged expression, Damon slowly approaches them, while clenching his fist tightly.
"Oh I don't need to try Damon, because you're gonna end up doing that by yourself" Enzo quickly fires back as Bonnie watches on.
"You really think she's gonna go back to you now that you're back, huh?" he questions, getting up in his face with a tightly clenched jaw.
Enzo takes a quick glance at Bonnie before speaking up. "What the two of us had before your brother killed me was real. A real relationship with love and trust, what you two have is nothing but an affair that will fizzle out once you realized you've made a terrible fucking mistake and go crawling back to your precious Elena"
As silence lingers around the cool atmosphere surrounding them, Damon finds himself getting angrier and angrier with each passing moment. His face instantly becomes red and slowly turns a shade of crimson whilst an unearthly demonic look overcame him. His breathing becomes strange, sort of ragged, and all he could see in that very moment was nothing but rage. The expression on his face is deadly and dangerous. The air had instantly felt like a ticking time bomb, which hesitantly waited for him to explode at any given moment as his eyes turns a darker shade.
Seconds later, the deep, heavy rage he felt inside him, began to slowly fade away as he felt Bonnie's hand gently touch his lower waist. The anger in him instantly disappears as he lowers his head to glance down at her. She holds a softening and tender look on her face as he slowly takes her hold and brings it closer to his chest.
Enzo's face slowly drops as he watches the two of them together. Whenever him and Damon fought in the past, Bonnie would usually hold him to calm him down, but once he saw her do it to Damon in that moment he knew he had lost her for good and that made him furious. Furious at the fact that he had lost his love to the brother of the man who ripped out his chest, but more furious at the fact that it had to him. He would've felt more understanding if it was another man as he didn't expect Bonnie to wallow in his death forever, he would've wanted her to move on, but the fact that the man she moved on with was none other than Damon Salvatore is something he wasn't ready to accept not now or ever.
After a short while, Bonnie turns to face him. "Enzo-"
"Don't bother" he scoffs, quickly cutting her off before she could say another word. "You're not who I once thought you were, Bonnie Bennett" he mutters, with heavy eyes and with that he turns around to walk away, leaving the both of them alone.
Damon and Bonnie watch him disappear moments later using his vamp speed, before turning to face each other, knowing that this thing with Enzo is far from over.
"Let's go home" Damon mutters quietly, lifting his hand up to run down the side of her face. "I wanna forget everything that happened today... and just be with you" he whispers quietly.
With many thoughts floating through her mind, Bonnie tries her best to push them all away as she bores into his light blue eyes. As a smile forms on her face, he takes her hand and kisses it. She looks at him, before going to wrap her arms around his waist and hug him tightly, resting the side of her head on his chest. Even with Enzo's words still circulating through her head, losing Damon isn't something she's prepared for. He places a kiss on the top of her head and holds her tighter before shutting his eyes, never wanting to let go, fearing that he may lose her for good if he did.

~A while later~

Across town, Enzo sits at the front of a bar drowning in his alcohol. He slowly turns his head to glance at a man who sat a couple seats further from him as he smoked a cigar. The smoke twisted in its artistic way, forming curls in the gloom, illuminated only by the age-speckled bar lights. Its as if it was mimicking the misery he felt right at that very moment. Turning his head back front, he quickly downed his glass of whiskey, before raising a shaky finger to call the bartender for more drinks, whilst also trying to drown out the unbearable noises of music and laughter coming from all around him inside. He was not in a happy mood and anyone around him could see that.
As the bartender placed another bottle of whiskey, in-front of him he went to pour it into his glass, but stops as he notices someone sit on the stool beside him.
"What the bloody hell are you doing back here?" he snarls.
"From your attitude I'm guessing things didn't go well with Bonnie did it?" Madam Estelle questions, looking around the bar.
In anger, Enzo slams the bottle of whiskey down on the table, drawing a couple stares in their direction. "You fucking lied to me" he hisses at her.
"I did no such thing, Enzo" she replies nonchalantly
"When you brought me back you said that it was a favor for Bonnie because she wanted to bring me back herself, when you knew that it was Stefan Salvatore she really wanted to bring back not me".
There was a brief pause between them.
"Perhaps I knew about her plan to bring back Stefan Salvatore, but I couldn't let that happen, so I thought about who else that was important to her" she says, quickly declining the bartender as he offers her a drink.
"And you didn't think to tell me about her and Damon Salvatore, and don't tell me you had no fucking idea, because if you knew that she planned to bring back Stefan then you definitely knew about her affair with Damon" he says, clenching the bottle tightly in his hand. "Why did you bother to bring me back in the first place if you knew this was going to happen?!".
A crude smile slowly plasters across Madam Estelle's face. She pauses to look around the bar for a brief while, before turning her attention back to Enzo. "You see Bonnie's grandmother and myself were very good friends growing up. After she died, I protected Bonnie in ways that she didn't know. I lead her to San Francisco a year ago after she traveled the world so she could have a place to settle and start a new life in. But knowing Bonnie I knew that she would someday find herself back here in Mystic Falls. As dangerous as this town is, she just can't seem to stay away from it. When she returned to this town again she once again found company in Damon Salvatore and she fell hopelessly in love with him the second she laid eyes on him again, more than she's ever loved anyone even you... but you and I both know that he will be the death of her. He will destroy her and ruin her".
Enzo's stares at her uneasily, wondering how she knew so much. He shifts his eyes away moments later as he breathes out a deep sigh. "That still doesn't answer my question as to why you bothered bringing me back to life" he mutters.
"Bonnie has been through a lot. I care about her more than I do anybody in this world. I've protected her for years now and I continue to keep doing so, she's like a second granddaughter to me. She deserves a happy life, a good marriage and kids to continue on the Bennett bloodline and we both know that Damon Salvatore can't give her that".
"In-case you forgot, I can't give her that either. I'm a vampire and we can't reproduce" says Enzo as he pours the bottle of whiskey into his cup.
"Well if you would've let me finish..."
He pauses for a brief moment, before turning his head to glance back at Madam Estelle as she reaches into her pocket to pull out a small bottle which looked like a potion of red blood. He stared it for a little while, till his eyes begins to widen in shock.
"Is that...?"
"The cure for vamperism" she whispers quietly so no one would hear. "It doesn't matter where I got it from and you shouldn't worry about that either. I trust that you are the man for Bonnie or I won't be giving you this. I brought you back for a reason so take this and I promise you will have the life with Bonnie that you both are destined for" she explains, handing it over to him.
He hesitantly reaches over to take it, but stops midway. "What about Damon?" he questions.
"You leave that to me. You see there's two things Damon Salvatore has always had a weakness in; one of them is his brother, and the other is his wife" she leans in and places the cure inside his pocket, before speaking back up. "You just leave everything to me".
Enzo runs his hands down his face in deep thought for a little while. He opened his eyes back up moments later to ask a question, but stopped as he noticed that Madam Estelle had disappeared. He rapidly narrows his eyes around the bar, stopping at the entrance as he spots Elena slowly walk in. She returns his gaze from afar not long later, and her face instantly fills with shock, almost like she had just seen a ghost, in disbelief that he is alive right before her very eyes.

~An hour later~
.
.
Back at Bonnie's Grams house, Damon and Bonnie were laid in the bathtub. Bonnie sat with the back of her head placed on Damon's bare chest while swirling her fingers around the bubbles in the tub, as Damon's arm was wrapped around her waist with his other hand cupping her breast, while he watches her. Moments later, she tilts her head back to look up at him, and he plants a kiss on her lips, pulling away to just look at her. That's all he wanted to do after the day they've had.
"Why didn't you tell me you were planning to bring Stefan back?" he questions minutes later as she places the back of her head on his chest and intertwines their hands together.
She shuts her eyes and breathes out a quiet sigh before speaking up. ''I wanted it to be a surprise. I wanted Caroline to get her husband back, its not fair that she has to live without him for eternity and I wanted you to get your brother back too... when I asked Madam Estelle to collect the ingredients that I needed for me, I didn't know that she was going to do the spell herself and bring Enzo back instead, I should've told you" she sighs.
"So I guess he's really back for good, huh?... perfect just what I needed" he groaned under his breath.
"There's nothing for you to worry about, Damon" Bonnie mutters, tilting her head up to face him once again.
"I have every bit of reason to worry, because this isn't over. He's gonna do everything he can to try and take you away from me and I don't know what I'd do if that happens" he breathes out, lowering his head a little.
Bonnie nuzzles up closer to his neck, slowly lifting his face up with her finger. "As guilty as I felt about us, I won't be here with you now if I wasn't sure that I wanted to spend my life with you. Plus you were the one who said that we're stuck with each other forever" she smiles, causing him to instantly do the same.
"I did say that didn't I" he said, moving down to place a kiss on her neck. "I was planning to keep this a secret for a little while, but I guess this is probably a good time to tell you".
"What is it?" Bonnie asks.
"I'm selling my bar. I have a couple of potential buyers lined up and when I sell it to one of them I'm coming with you to San Francisco. I'll open up a new bar there and we could start our lives there together, away from all this" he mutters, wrapping his arms around her tightly.
Bonnie smiles a big smiles as her heart instantly churns with happiness at the thought, but it begins to slowly disappear moments later as she remembers the obvious. "What about Elena?" she questions.
"She's just going to have to accept our divorce, but don't worry about her, alright" he reassures, placing a soft kiss on her shoulder. "I promise it'll be just the two of us. I can't give you kids and I wish I could, I wish we could someday have kids of our own, but I promise to give you every other thing in life. I know its not gonna be easy at times and I know I'm not one to make a lot of people happy, but I promise to make you happy and love you everyday of your life even when you're old and grey and when you leave the world, I won't hesitate to take of my ring and join you on the other side" he states, with a big smile plasters all across his face.
Bonnie turns her head around to face him, instantly spotting the happiness in his eyes. She drapes her arms around his neck and leans in to kiss him, before pulling away to press their foreheads together. Even after the unexpected return of Enzo which had sent her over the edge and left her mind swirling with different thoughts and emotions, she couldn't be more happier right then, and it was all because of him.
"I love you, Damon Salvatore" she whispers, cupping his face with her hands.
"I lo-"
Before Damon could finish his sentence, he felt a sharp and painful migraine in his head, causing him to squirm loudly. It was unlike any pain he's ever felt.
"Damon, Damon!" Bonnie panicked, grabbing onto his shoulder. "Damon, what's wrong, what's the matter?".
She pauses to look into his eyes, which had turned pitch black as he continued to scream out in pain. She furrows her eyebrows bewilderingly. As she was about to hurry out of the tub and pull him with her, his screaming stops, almost as if time had stood still for a brief moment. She frantically turns around to face him, to see him with his eyes closed shut and her heart immediately drops. She calls his name over and over in terror while shaking him, but he wouldn't move. In that moment it felt like life and death and the fear that overcame her mind and body was unlike anything she had ever felt.
Hey guys, I can't believe I'm uploading this story again after such a long time. I didn't think I was going to, because I completely lost all motivation, because of all the personal things that happened in my life. The pandemic really affected me as well as losing a family member so I stopped writing. I'm sorry for keeping you guys waiting, but I needed to get my life in check before I started writing again, and it means a lot for me to finally get this chapter out, so I really hoped you guys enjoyed it x
