Susan to Edmund, or

BrokenKestral to BellatrixTheStar

Dear Edmund,

More adventures? It seems so strange to think we went on those; that one time isles and voyages and all those different people happened to us. And it sounds as if you went even further! The end of the world! And yet our world doesn't have an end. Did Eustace comment on that?

I try to picture such things, but it seems very distant now. But not for you; it must seem very fresh, especially if all of you got together and spoke about it. How I wish I could be there! For that moment America seemed so far from all of you. I eagerly wait for Lucy's letter as well (she must not have been able to catch the post, I wonder what Uncle Harold must have thought!). I have no doubt hers will speak of all the people you'd seen again, so I must thank you for sending a more coherent picture of EVENTS. And I cannot wait to hear more.

What did Peter say to your adventures? How did he welcome Eustace? He's known welcoming the changed before, like Trumpkin (remember when Mother heard us say that name and she kept trying to figure out the etymology of the name?), but I think it will be harder to face family than friends.

America is very different. Free-er, in some senses, then we are, free from rules of older generations. Respect for the elderly seems to give way for living in the present. They've said they don't much like the world the older generations left for them, and they want to make sure those mistakes never happen again. Having seen what's left of England, I can see their point. No more world wars. And they cannot go about it the way we used to, of course, so they are going about it their own way. And they've lost a lot less.

Angela and James are calling; we're going out to a party tonight! Since I wish to catch the post as well, I'll end here. I can't wait to hear from Lucy!

Much love,

Susan
