Chapter 30: Tell Me More
It's Spring Break now. May and Drew have been practicing their lines for the Spring Play every day in class and at home. The play will be next week. Both May and Drew's Ninetales have been seeing each other every so often ever since their trainers both gave Drew's Ninetales permission. The gang knows that Daisy and Drew will be the stars of the Spring Play, so of course they'll go and see it. We now find a certain blonde in a certain green-haired person's room in the middle of Spring Break.
"Now, play a C chord." Drew said.
"Okay." May/Daisy said. She looked at the neck of the guitar and moved her fingers to the correct positions. She strummed the chord with a green guitar pick.
May is the one that asked for another guitar lesson from Drew. Of course, her being his small crush and all, he said yes. He taught her some basic chords that are in most songs and now he's testing her to see if she remembers them.
"G." Drew said.
May moved her fingers to a different position and strummed the chord. She looked up at Drew who's sitting in a chair in front of her. She's on his bed.
"How did I do?" May asked.
Drew's mouth is slightly open in shock. He stayed like that, not answering Daisy.
"Drew?"
Drew still didn't respond.
"Grasshead!" May yelled.
Drew snapped out of his trance. "Huh? What is it?"
"How did I do?" May asked again.
"You were...I'm just…" Drew said. He smiled. "You were perfect."
May beamed. "I learned from the best."
"And who's that?" Drew asked, smiling.
"I think you know him." May said. "His name is Drew."
"Hmm...doesn't ring a bell." Drew said, leaning back in his seat.
May rolled her eyes. She then looked back at the neck of the guitar. She started strumming a beat.
(This song is "Gotta Find You" from Camp Rock.)
"You're the remedy I'm searching hard to find." May sang softly. "To fix the puzzle that I see inside. Painting all my dreams the color of your smile. When I find you it will be alright."
Drew stared in awe of Daisy's strumming.
"I need to try to get to where you are." May sang. "Could it be you're not that far?" She held out the note and the guitar and her voice faded out. May lifted her head up and stared at the floor.
May looked at Drew. She smiled. "I never knew I could do that."
"You mean...play and sing beautifully at the same time?" Drew questioned, smiling.
May blushed and looked at the neck of the guitar. "Yeah…" she answered.
Drew reached out and grabbed the guitar neck. She stared at his hand and let go of the guitar. He pulled it away from her and placed it on the floor.
May looked at Drew. "No more lessons?"
Drew got up and sat down next to her on the bed. "Not right now. How about you tell me about yourself?"
"What? Why?"
"Because we've been friends for months, but I don't even really know that much about you. So tell me something."
"Well...okay then." May/Daisy said. "Let's see...my favorite color is pink. My favorite flower is the rose. My favorite hobby is singing. I play piano as well and now guitar."
"Wow, you act, sing, play piano and guitar." Drew said. "Are there any other talents you have?"
"Umm...not really. That's pretty much it."
"So, what I want to know is...why don't your parents let you go out with anyone?"
"Umm...because they just don't." May answered.
"I want a real reason."
"Well...they're just...scared of someone breaking my heart."
"Well, you'll never know if you don't try."
"I know, but...they're just really strict." May said.
"I understand that." Drew said. "Anyway, I'll tell you some things about me."
"Okay."
And so he did. May and Drew talked to each other. They went back and forth, telling the other about their likes and dislikes. The reason why Drew wanted to know more about Daisy is unknown. Even to him. All he knows is that...his crush on her is getting more and more big the more they talk.
May's little crush on Drew is getting bigger too. She knows that they can't date because of her parents, but she hopes that someday they can. Also, she's been hiding the biggest secret ever from everyone at school and she's really starting to feel guilty about that. Everyone thinks that she's Daisy. But no. She's the Princess of Hoenn. She does plan on revealing who she is some time, but she wonders how everyone will react. Especially Drew. I mean...they've become good friends, but she's been lying straight to his face.
What May has been thinking is...What will Drew say when she reveals who she is? How will he react? Will he still want to be her friend? Will he be upset that she hid who she is from him? Will he still be just as romantic to her as he is now? Will their friendship break? Or...will he confess? Wait. Confess what? His feelings of love towards her? She really hopes that's true. Even if it is, the King and Queen won't allow it. May doesn't like that rule at all. She never has.
Drew just finished telling Daisy a story from his childhood. She bursted out laughing. Drew chuckled a little. It was a funny story and he couldn't stay quiet. He had to laugh.
"You mean...you really...thought that a piano was a storage container?" May questioned, laughing.
"Yeah." Drew answered, laughing. "And I had to say the weirdest sentence to my teacher. I told her that the piano ate my homework."
May laughed out loud. She couldn't stop laughing. It was hurting her stomach to continue, but she just couldn't stop.
Drew stopped laughing and he watched as Daisy kept going at it. She tried calming herself down with deep breaths, but she always remembered the story and started laughing again. Drew smiled at the blonde. He likes how he could make her laugh. He also likes how she looks when she's laughing. He could honestly say...she's cute when she laughs.
("She may not be my mystery girl, but...I think I'm in love.") Drew thought.
May finally quieted her laughter. She smiled and stared into Drew's eyes. "I never knew you could make me laugh."
"I didn't either." Drew said. "And I also didn't think that story was that funny."
May giggled. "Well, your piano would eat your things, so it's pretty funny."
"Yeah. I guess so. I was only like 7 years old when that happened though."
"Did you used to play piano?" May asked. "Or did you just use it as storage?" She asked, giggling.
Drew chuckled and shook his head. "I still play. I haven't shown you it, but there's a grand piano in this mansion somewhere."
"Really?" May asked excitedly.
"Yeah."
"Can we go see it?" May asked.
"If you want to."
"Yes!" May said happily.
"Then let's go."
They left Drew's room and went downstairs. Drew led May to a giant room with a grand piano in the center and musical instruments along the edges. May saw all kinds of instruments everywhere. She looked around in awe.
"Like it?" Drew asked. "This is the music room."
"Wow…" May breathed. "You must have every instrument there is in here…"
"Maybe."
They walked to the grand piano. May sat down on the piano bench.
"Are you going to play me something?" Drew asked.
"Maybe." May said. She opened the piano and turned it on. She placed her hands on the keys and started playing them in a gentle melody.
(This song is "This Is Me" from Camp Rock.)
"I've always been the kind of girl that hid my face." May sang. "So afraid to tell the world what I've got to say." Drew looked at Daisy curiously. "But I have this dream right inside of me. I'm gonna let it show. It's time to let you know."
"This is real, this is me. I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be now." May sang. "Gonna let the light shine on me. Now I've found who I am. There's no way to hold it in." Drew smiled. "No more hiding who I wanna be. This is me." May let the note fade out on the piano.
May looked up at Drew.
"Wow…" Drew breathed. "You're...amazing."
May blushed. "Thank you. I'm self taught on the piano. One day I just decided that I'd like to play an instrument, and the next thing I knew, my parents bought a piano for me and I played every day. Before ever going to school of course."
"Right." Drew said. "Well, you're extremely gifted."
"Thanks. That means a lot coming from you."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, you know...musician to musician." May said. "You're amazing with a guitar, so...a compliment like that from a really good musician means a lot to me."
Drew smiled. They stared into each other's eyes.
("I don't think I'm his mystery girl, but...I still think I know for sure now.") May thought. ("I've fallen in love with him.")
People are entering the theater and taking their seats. The play is happening after school, so parents and students are welcome. The gang is seated together. May and Drew are backstage, getting ready. It's almost showtime.
"So, are you ready?" Drew asked.
"I'm a little nervous, but I'll be fine when I get out there." May/Daisy answered.
"That's the spirit." Drew said. "You'll be great."
"Thanks. You will too."
Drew flicked his bangs. "Of course I will."
May rolled her eyes.
"It's almost showtime everyone!" Teacher Lisa announced. "Is everyone ready?" She asked, looking around at the actors and actresses. When she looked at them, they gave her a thumbs up. "Good. Be ready in 10." She walked away.
There are of course Psychic Pokémon backstage which help with the quick set changes. May tossed two Pokéballs in the air. Her Glaceon and Espeon came out.
"You two remember what to do?" May asked,
The two Pokémon nodded.
"Okay then. Be ready."
What May was talking about is that they'll play a part in the play from backstage. At the very beginning of the play, after May and Drew sing the first song together, May's Glaceon and Espeon will use their attacks to create fireworks above the audience.
"Troy, Gabriella, you're up." Teacher Lisa said.
May and Drew stood up.
"Let's do this." Drew said.
"Let's give them a show." May said.
May and Drew walk on stage.
