Hello everyone! I hope your week went well! I actually have another announcement to make!
I am now also writing another FNAF fic, it's under the name The Flickering Light, and it takes place in this series! It has a different main character, but it is connected to this one, and it takes place before this one and A Brother's Promise. Because of events that will start occurring in this one, I would suggest reading it as well so you can better understand what is happening.
Anyways, there is that announcement, onto the reviews then?
PK - SPRINGTRAP HUG MEH: Ah yes, the reason for it being in another fic is kind of the reason that I wanted to avoid using it here. Because I try to make my toys different I don't want there to be confusion with shared names. I actually have gotten the names down! Thank you for your suggestions! Also, I tried to look up that event, and I was unable to find it. It won't be taking place in this fix, thank you for informing me though!
Fantom Night: Ah! you're enthusiasm made me smile! Yes, that is something that will come into play later on, so yes it will be addressed! And Mangle will provide help in integrating the toys as well.
Luckyshot8: I'm sorry I'm afraid I don't understand what you are referring to.
TU4QU0I53T4IAN6L3: Ah yes, Alder, I have plans for him, but sadly nothing can be disclosed at this time. And yes, it will be a adjustment for the two of them living with each other, but in time things will eat better. And yeah, fixing the toys is one of their top priorities, good suggestions for the names! I have finally settled upon ones so hooray!
Silverleone: It would be easier, but I want to avoid confusion as much as possible, so I have come up with my own. And yeah, Mangle will still be Mangle, that one is easy to remember. Yeah, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to introduce this character!
I own nothing but my characters and ideas.
(Also wow! Thirty chapters! That's just crazy to me!)
Chapter 30
The Fixing Of Problems
Enix was exhausted, he just wanted to go home and sleep. But that wasn't happening.
Stupid evening guard, the guy never seemed to show up.
Honestly he was going to talk to their new boss about trying to find someone else, this was getting ridiculous.
However, before he got his fellow employee fired, Enix found himself watching their contractor.
Or, their contractor's assistant.
Enix didn't like it. According to Leo, Acid had been the one who had 'fixed' Foxy. And then his wiring was braided?
This man shouldn't be left on his own.
Overall, the assistant wandered around the restaurant, looking at the drawings and humming ring around the roses to himself. Sometimes he would skip, other times he would hop on one leg for...some reason.
Enix was even more exhausted just watching the man.
He lingered often by or in the office. But that was only when Leo wasn't there. He would sit in the chair spinning around and giggling to himself as he sang patty cake.
The man was completely off his rocker, Enix truly believed now that he had braided the wiring because he thought it had been hair.
Overall he concluded that he should not be allowed to work on the animatronics under any circumstances.
The new guard left the crazed man in the kitchens to irritate the cooks and went to his boss. She was in pirates cove talking with Foxy. The red fox was quite dejected and staring down at his hook with his ears drooped.
"Hey there capt'in." Enix grinned swinging his closed fist in a good natured way.
A yellow eye focused on him as the animatronic turned his attention to the guard.
"Hello Enix." He greeted soberly, and the guard's brow furrowed.
"What's the matter? Nothing happened and you are getting fixed." He explained, but the fox merely looked down again and mocked a deep breath.
"No. It's not as simple as that. What did he do last night? A lot of his joints are damaged, it's not smart for him to resume typical stage duties." Joey voiced causing Enix to look at her.
"...but it was just drywall! How badly could he have been damaged?" The guard demanded, his stomach clenching at the thought that he could've gone on stage if Enix had managed to calm him sooner.
"You don't realize how sensitive these parts are. You think it is easy to make and maintain a machine that can conduct all these movements?" She asked, and he paused before shaking his head.
"Well no, I don't. But that's why we have you...right?" He asked with a grin, she scowled at him and took a breath.
"It will take at least a week to get him back into working order." She informed and the predator mocked a sigh slumping his shoulders.
Enix worried his lip and took another breath.
"Is there no way for it to be done faster?" He asked, only to earn a glare from the mechanic.
"You want him decapitating a child?" She demanded, and the guard rubbed the back of his neck.
"Well obviously not..." he trailed, and she took a breath turning back to Foxy's elbow joint.
"Whatever, look just let me get my work done and then he can preform again in a week. Understand?" She asked, addressing both guard and animatronic. After a moment both nodded soberly. She nodded in return and went back to work, Enix let out a breath getting the message, and sending Foxy a half smile he left the room.
He should go find Leo, for all he knew the guard could be overdosing out back, but at the moment Jamie was the most visibly flustered.
"James?" He asked coming over, the waiter took a breath.
"Sorry. I'm just worried." He said softly, and Enix raised an eyebrow.
"About the new boss?"
"No...it's just." He took a breath, "my brother...contacted my sister yesterday. He asked her for money." He paused closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, "to buy drugs." At that Enix slowly nodded and took a breath.
"I see. Is this the first time he has called your family in awhile?" The guard asked, crossing his arms and leaning back against the table.
"Yeah...first time in two years." At that Enix nodded, taking a deep breath.
"Ah, I'm sorry." He voiced, and Jamie took a deep breath as well.
"It's okay, she just got into an argument with him over the phone. That's why I was late today. I had to calm her down from straight up finding and killing him." He let out a half of a laugh before stealing a breath. "My family...are a passionate people." The waiter muttered letting his shoulders drop.
Enix sympathetically patted his shoulder, "I'm sure it will work out James." Jamie nodded with a breath and pushed himself off the table before sweeping once more.
The guard gazed at his fellow employee and took a breath, "why don't you clock out and head home? I'll finish your duties up." He offered and Jamie looked up after a moment.
"Really?" The young guard nodded and Jamie smiled, "thank you!" Enix took the broom and the waiter headed off to clock out and put away his apron. Enix let out a breath and began to sweep the floors.
Maybe he could snatch up Joey before she left so she could fix the toys…
Leo wasn't sure what to do, should he tell Mangle to move? Could he do that? Or would she bite his head off...literally.
He had to have been there for an hour or two already. At the very least an hour and a half. Her head still firmly laid on his lap, and he still mindlessly stroked her plastic head.
At first he had talked nervously, and rambled unsure of what else to do, but eventually he ran out of things to talk about and she seemed content with the silence.
He wasn't complaining about it either.
It was strangely nice, sitting there in the silence. His life had grown so chaotic as of late, moments like this didn't even exist anymore. And it was strange, to be sitting there not panicking or worrying about anything for a second.
However, nice things never lasted long.
"Leo? Leo, Joey needs you we are going to fix..." Enix trailed off as he leaned into the room. There was a long pause and Leo looked up at him shaking his head a bit desperately.
The last thing he needed was for Mangle to freak out.
"Oh hey there." The younger guard greeted with a smile, Leo looked down and watched as Mangle lifted her head slowly. Her eye and white pinprick was locked onto the guard before them.
"Mangle...it's alright..." Leo tried to soothe, the bot looked back at him a moment before turning her attention to Enix again.
"We are good right? I'm not going to hurt you okay?" He paused before motioning behind him. "We actually have someone who can help you here. If you would like." He offered with a shrug. The bot gazed at him silently before making a static noise. Both guards blinked.
"Um..."
But seeming to realize they couldn't understand her, Mangle lifted her head and pulled back from Leo, then she twisted her body around and grabbed a hold of the ceiling plates again. Then she looked at Enix expectantly.
"Okay, right, well the restaurant just closed, so there aren't anymore guests." He paused and looked at Leo. "The new boss talked to me...I'll tell you about it later." Leo let out a breath before nodding and getting to his feet. Enix offered a hand, but Leo ignored it.
Sheesh, he could get up.
Enix, unfazed left the room. Mangle spared Leo a look before following after the younger guard.
They entered the toy room, only to find the originals in there as well. Leo immediately hobbled to Foxy.
"Hey Foxy, you doing better?" He asked looking him over, last night had been a scare, but he knew it wasn't his fault.
He still had a lot of questions for Enix, but that would probably have to wait till tomorrow.
"Yea, Joey fixed me up." He mocked a breath and looked to the side his ears drooping down. "Sorry 'bout last nigh' laddie, I tried to best it, I really did, but..." he trailed, Leo took a breath and placed a hand on his shoulder piece.
"Foxy, it's alright. I know you don't mean to hurt us." He told him, and the red bot looked up at him and gave a bit of a smile.
"So, the toys were programmed to see you two as associates of the murderer?" Joey asked, pulling their attention to the scene before them. Enix nodded with a breath sitting on the edge of the stage. The toys seemed to be quite uncomfortable, and Leo couldn't help but wonder if they were only just restrained with the presence of the originals.
The Puppet was lurking away from the group, hovering and watching everyone carefully, Mangle hovered a bit above Leo and the guard wasn't entirely sure how he felt about that.
Yes they seem to be on good terms, but she still had the same programming as the others right?
"Yes, and we also need you to try and fix...erm, Mangle." The younger guard motioned up to the broken animatronic. The mechanic followed his hand up and gazed at the animatronic.
"What did you do to that poor thing?" She asked looking aghast as she came over gazing up at the broken bot.
"We didn't do anything! She was like that when she came!" Enix protested but the mechanic just took a breath shaking her head.
"Whatever, I'm sure you guys did something. You always do." Both guards shared a look before Leo took a breath leaning more on his crutch.
"Also we need you to fix the door." The older guard glanced around and spotted Balloon boy, his eyes narrowed a fraction. "Someone messed it up."
"Geez, can you guys keep anything in order around here?" Acid suddenly asked, and Leo blinked, not even having noticed him sitting on one of the tables cross legged as he ate pizza.
...and was that frosting globed on each slice…?
"I don't want to hear about keeping things in order from you! You braided Foxy's wiring and he nearly killed me!" Enix barked, and the man blinked.
"That was wiring?" He paused and nibbled on his slice of pizza. "I thought it was hair..." he mumbled.
"Hair?! C'mon you can't be that stupid! Why are you even Joey's assistant? You never do anything to help her!" The blue haired man continued, and Leo found himself glad that for once he wasn't at the receiving end of this.
"That's not true." Joey muttered from where she was digging through her tool box. Somehow she had managed to coax Mangle down from the roof. "He makes sure I take my medication." She looked up at the guards staring at her. "I get sick a lot, so I have to have someone with me to make sure I don't pass out." She nodded to Acid, "he is my in-home nurse."
"Aye, when she was repairin' me, he would come in and give her pills to take." The red fox confirmed, and for a moment there was silence.
"You...get sick a lot?" Enix finally asked, and the mechanic nodded turning back to her bag.
"There was a lab accident when I was a child. I inhaled some pretty bad stuff..." she trailed before taking a breath, "anyways, that's why I keep him around." She shrugged, "he is the best nurse I know."
"...oh, well sorry Acid. I didn't know." Enix admitted after a moment. The man shrugged good natured.
"No problem, she doesn't like to tell a lot of people anyways." He chuckled, "has to pretend to be all tough and stuff." The mechanic sent him a look but he just grinned cheekily at her before taking another bite of pizza.
"Well this is all swell and nice, but I can't help but wonder one thing." The Puppet's calm and icy voice drifted over the room like a chill of the winter wind. Everyone froze, but not everyone dared to look his way. "How are we certain that these guards are innocent and not in fact involved with the murders?" He asked, and Enix sighed deeply.
"Puppet, it's not like we can physically prove that we weren't, but c'mon, do we really seem like the murdery type?" He asked, looking around trying to stir up some backup.
Original Freddy seemed to get the message. "There was only one man Puppet, you of all people should know that the most." The bear tried, but his plastic counterpart didn't look as convinced.
"How can we even trust your sight? You said you could never even identify him! How do we even know that it was one man? It could've been two different guys! That's the problem! We know nothing!" He protested, and the originals bristled up.
"It was not Leo or Enix! You guys are being ridiculous!" Original Chica protested, only for her younger counterpart to scoff and roll her eyes.
"And I think you are being too sentimental! For all we know they could've been fooling you this whole time!" She barked back hands on her hips. Original Chica bristled up and made a move to get after her, only to be held back by original Bonnie.
"Guys calm down, we can figure this out like rational creatures." Enix tried, but he wasn't really acknowledged.
"Oh you little brat! You know barely anything! You spent all your time in storage!" Original Chica countered, and the toy one huffed with another eye roll.
"Okay grandma, at least I'm not mistaken for a boy." She said with a raised eyebrow.
"Hey, look I don't see how that is relevant..." the young guard tried again, but it fell on deaf ears.
"Oh really!? Well at least I'm not a plastic knock-off that no one really loved in the first place!" The older chicken barked, jerking forward again and only restrained by Bonnie's strong grip.
Leo sighed and rubbed his forehead tiredly.
"Well...wouldn't Fritz know?" Toy Bonnie asked suddenly, and everyone looked at him.
"What?" Original Freddy asked, and toy Bonnie mocked a deep sigh.
"Fritz, or the children...whatever, but Fritz let Enix help him. Why would he do that if Enix was associated with the killer?" He asked looking at everyone.
Enix lit up and motioned to him, "yes, exactly!"
The toy bunny shrugged, "I just think that maybe it wasn't a helpful tip to our programming, I think it was someone who was intentionally trying to harm Enix and Leo." He then mocked a breath, "I know Leo is a criminal, but while that does set off my programming, I've been watching him, and besides the lack of eating and the obsessive drug taking, he hasn't done anything wrong." He admitted with a shrug. Toy Chica and Freddy looked at each other and then at their bunny comrade.
"Our programming is there for a reason. Last time someone messed with it we ended up in storage." Toy Freddy pointed out.
"Was it the same guy that made us criminals to you?" Enix asked, holding himself up with his hands.
"No, it was another guy, an employee. He came in while we were off and messed with our programming." The blue rabbit explained.
"Plus it was years ago, way before either of you came here." The toy bear finished, Enix pursed his lips but nodded with a breath.
"Right." But then Joey sighed causing them to look over at her.
"Look, I can't be here all night. Am I fixing them or not?" She asked looking over everyone in the room.
"Yes, we can't keep up like this." Enix confirmed and turned to look at the toys. "Whatever happens, we won't let you guys go back into storage. Okay? Whether you realize it or not, you are a part of our little family now." He said firmly, and they gazed back at him, their brows furrowed inward.
"Little...family?" Toy Freddy asked, and Enix nodded its a bit of a smile.
"Yeah! Of course, I mean, c'mon look around." He motioned to Leo and the originals, "sure we may not agree on things and we may fight...or try to murder each other, but! We kinda have a family here. Right?" He looked at the originals for backup, but they looked uncomfortable, the guard took a breath and sent Leo a desperate look, the guard sent him one back and shook his head. But Enix jerked his head toward the originals and the older guard sighed.
"Guys. I know there are problems." He took a breath looking at the originals and motioning to the toys. "I know you guys are stressed, I know that you have bad memories about your time with them. But think about it, they are in the same situation that you are in." He turned to the toys, "you need to calm down and understand that we are not here to hurt you all. Or hurt anyone for that matter. You saw that Enix helped one of the children, and you guys know as well how difficult they can be." He took another breath. "Please, we don't want to harm anyone and we are not the ones who helped the murderer, I'm pretty sure no one helped him. There weren't any accomplices mentioned in the news reports I read." The guard took yet another breath and rubbed his face. "We just want to help you and the originals. So please, let us do that?" He asked looking up at them.
The toys exchanged glances and there was silence for a long moment.
"Well? I'm not going to be here all night." Joey challenged, The toys looked at each other again before toy Freddy mocked a breath.
"Okay, you can remove their faces from our systems." He conceded, and toy Chica nodded.
"We can always kill them later if we find out that they were lying." She supplied with a shrug.
Original Chica stomped her foot, "no! No you won't! Killing them is not going to happen!" She barked and Enix raised his hand.
"I can't help but agree..."
"Before this gets into another argument...who goes first?" Joey asked interjecting again.
"I'll go, the sooner the urge to kill these guys is gone the better." The blue rabbit raised his hand and came over sitting at one of the chairs. It groaned under his weight but nothing more. Joey nodded and looked around his head before going to the front and popping up his mask. Leo couldn't help but lean over and take a peak at the machinery under the mask.
He barely knew what any of it did, but it was interesting to see what was under the kid friendly mask.
Though kid friendly might be pushing it, the toys were kinda creepy…
"...it's strange, to see the inner workings like that. It's sometimes hard to remember that you guys are robots." Enix voiced, and Leo jumped looking over his shoulder. Enix was there looking over his shoulder. The older guard side stepped away from his younger counterpart and took a breath.
"This is going to take a while to get done with." Joey informed and Leo nodded with a breath.
You know, we should go talk to Scott. I bet he gets pretty lonely.
The suggestion took him by surprise and he looked at the others before taking a step away.
"Why do you care?" He whispered, glancing back at the others.
Eh, this won't be entertaining any longer.
His brow furrowed and he took a breath before glancing back at the others and concluding that it would be fine if he slipped away for a little bit.
The originals were huddled together talking quietly and watching the toys, out of all of them Bonnie looked the most upset. The other toys were watching Joey work very carefully, Enix was watching her work as well, completely fascinated.
No he was watching him.
Or at least, that's what he thought, until he caught Acid's gaze. The guard stiffened up and offered a nod to the man, the man waved happily back in return and Leo took a breath...gave him another nod before heading out of the room.
He tried to ignore how the man's eyes followed him out.
That guy is so weird…
This time, Leo couldn't help but agree with his mental buddy.
He headed into the bathroom once more, going to the stall and taking a breath.
"Hey, uh, it's me." He greeted lamely.
"Leo? I'm surprised to hear from you so early in the night." Scott responded and Leo let out a breath leaning against the wall.
"Yeah, we got the toys to calm down finally. Apparently they have more trust for Enix now. He helped out Fritz...that's uh, one of the ghost kids." He took a breath and rested his head against the stall wall. "Enix helped him out and now the toys seem more okay with us...which is good, I'm tired of fighting with them." He sighed slumping against the wall.
"Enix interacted with one of the kids? Did that go well?" Scott asked, and Leo could almost imagine him leaning closer interested. He couldn't help but smile a bit.
"Yeah, it was weird, because all that the kids have been is just angry and...vengeful and stuff. But, he said it was a positive experience. He helped him out...and Enix said he even felt bad for him..." he trailed off and took a breath, "it's not like I don't feel bad for the kids. What happened was...horrific. But...I dunno, it's hard to feel sympathy for someone who has repeatedly tried to shove you inside of a animatronic suit and let you bleed out." Then he paused with a wince glancing at the wall. "Sorry, forgot my audience."
"No, no, I get it. When they were killed they seemed to only be consumed with rage and anger. Though, I can see why. For a very long time I was consumed with anger as well. Deep seeded rage. But now? Now I feel like I have gained some clarity." The dead man explained.
"I'm...sorry you had to go through that." Leo shifted his weight off his bad leg. "I can't...imagine what it must've been like..." The guard wanted to ask more questions, but he also didn't want to make him remember something he didn't.
"You want to ask me something don't you?" The phone man preemptively asked, and Leo jumped before taking a breath and nodding guiltily.
"Yeah...I just..." he took a deep breath, "what happened...after you died? What does it feel like?" He asked quietly.
"I remember...pain...fear, lots...and lots of pain...and they were laughing. That was probably the most fear I have ever felt in my life." There was a breath and Leo furrowed his brow, maybe it was a ghost thing where he could still hear his breaths.
"I'm...I'm so sorry." He whispered, before rubbing his arms.
"Tragically a sorry can't change the fact that it happened." He took another raspy breath, and Leo couldn't help but wonder if that was because he died so tragically the damage carried over into the afterlife. "There was a feeling of peace...until the horror set in. When I remembered….what happened." His voice got quiet toward the end, and Leo swallowed.
"I don't know what else to say besides sorry..." he trailed lamely, and there was a chuckle from behind the wall.
"You know, you remind me of my kids." He said, but that didn't pull a smile from Leo, it made a pit form in his stomach.
"You...you had kids?" He asked hoarsely. That's not fair...did they even know what happened? Did they think he left? Did they know he died? Did he think of them as he was dying?
It had been naive to think that he didn't, that he or the other guards who were killed didn't have families that mourned them.
The guard could feel himself getting riled up again, but he bit his lip curling is fists into the tightest he could.
"Yeah...yeah, they were...rambunctious but good kids. I wonder what they are doing now..." He trailed and Leo close his eyes taking a breath.
"Do you think they know?" He couldn't help but ask.
"The company never would've told them." There was a breath, "so I guess they never found out."
"I'm sorry." He whispered lamely, what else could he say? He tried not to get riled up again, the last thing anyone needed was for him to get upset over past mistakes on part of the animatronics.
"It's alright, I suppose by now they have moved on, it was awhile ago at least. But my point was, you do remind me of my children. Not to...call you a child of course." He added, and Leo let out a breath.
"Oh don't worry, a lot of people mistake me for a child. I'm uh...rather short." He paused frowning, "can you see me?" Was he just kind of...hanging around?
"No, I can't see you. I'm bound in the walls. Kinda strange isn't it? Died in a suit but stuck in the building itself." There was a breath and then a pause, "so...when you say short...how short do you mean?" He asked, and Leo paused looking at himself and then taking a breath.
"I think the doctors measured me at five foot...but I was kinda hung over when that happened so...I'm not completely sure."
"Five...foot? Huh."
That made Leo shift and pause, "...why do you ask?" He asked slowly.
"Hm? Oh, uh, no reason." Scott responded and Leo nodded after a moment.
"Right...um, is...there anything else you want to talk about? I mean...I can go if you would like, but if you want to talk I'm pretty sure I have some time." He offered with a shrug, there was a pause for a moment.
"Yes, I actually did want to ask you something. You said someone was fixing the toys...who did the company hire? I can't imagine there are many people around anymore who can do that." The deceased man asked, and Leo blinked.
"Oh, uh, it's some mechanics that the company found. Joey...er Byrd I think…" he trailed furrowing his brow, that was weird, he never actually realized the fact that they shared a last name…
But she hadn't recognized him...so it couldn't have been that she was from his past…
"Byrd huh? That's...an interesting last name." He muttered and Leo looked at the wall brow furrowing.
"Do you know it?"
"Hm? Oh….um, maybe. I may have heard the name thrown around. The family is pretty rich...not originally from this town, but they run...or ran a pretty extensive robotics department. Which of course was pretty revolutionary back in the day. For the time it was, the inventions they were making...they were uh, pretty magical for that time period." He paused before continuing with another raspy breath, "I wasn't...familiar with them, But uh, was it two Byrds or…?"
"Oh...um, no, there is this other guy, I dunno, he is kinda...nuts. His name is Acid...which I guess is kinda fitting. He is her in-home nurse or something? It's strange. But as long as he leaves the animatronics alone...there isn't really a problem."
"Animatronics? Why?" He asked, and Leo paused realizing he didn't have the context.
"Oh...uh, well Joey has been working on fixing Foxy...but she got sick and Acid came in and finished him up...but he like braided the wiring which caused Foxy to bug out, and then attack us...which led to the whole Enix and Fritz thing." He explained with a breath, "I just I dunno, he is kinda weird."
"Yeah, he...sounds strange. You said Acid right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"No reason, that's just a really...odd name." He said, and Leo nodded with another breath.
"Yeah, parents must've been really weird to name him something like that." He shook his head adjusting on his feet again.
"Perhaps, or maybe he changed his name." Scott suggested and Leo shrugged.
"Yeah, I guess he could've." He glanced at the doorway, "we also uh, have a new owner. Of the company." He added realizing he might want to know.
"A new owner?"
"Yeah, his name is Alder or something." Leo shrugged, "I dunno, he was talking about bringing in more profits and stuff. But all I care about is keeping my job, and he said he wasn't going to fire him or let Anderson sue me. So, he's a pretty decent guy in my book so far." The guard took a deep breath and looked at the ceiling, "but I dunno, working here has left me little trust for my bosses."
"I can't imagine why in this field work." Scott drawled and Leo nodded.
"Yeah..." He trailed for a moment before pausing and worrying his lip, "um Scott...we are struggling with trying to calm down the toys and such...did you ever find out what happened to the murderer?"
I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter!
What did you think of Jamie's family problems? Or about the conversation between the toys and the originals? What about the conversation between Leo and Scott?
I'd love to hear what you think!
