Chapter XII: In Chains

Percy had to admit he was a bit jealous of Leo. Reyna's car was nothing fancy, but Percy could only image that it was far more comfortable than the van. Though, truthfully, Percy was used to discomfort, and in fairness, he was used to silence too. That didn't mean he liked it though. Percy wasn't sure about it, but to him, Frank acted like the two had problems, and Percy had no clue why.

Percy reached for the car's stereo. He didn't spend much time in cars, but the fact the van didn't even have bluetooth really showed the vehicle's age. He'd no sooner flicked the music on, however, before Frank turned it off. Percy reached forward again before a firm glare from Frank caused him to pull back. Was he afraid of Frank? Please. If it came to it, Percy was pretty certain he could beat the man with one hand behind his back, but whatever issue Frank had, it didn't look like one that could be solved with a punch to the face.

Frank drove in a way that was painfully ironic, but Percy held his tongue. His time with the redhead had really brought some joy into his life, and Percy felt more alive than he had his entire life. The buildings zipped by faster than Percy could read their plated addresses and the billboards vanished in moments behind them.

A low growl broke the silence and Percy smirked. He turned back to the large man and grinned, "Looks like someone didn't have breakfast."

"Quiet, Jackson," Frank said. "Keep your eyes peeled for Lit."

Percy rolled his eyes. Reyna had shown him an image of the man they were after and Percy almost shivered. For as eager as Frank appeared to catch the guy, Percy wasn't exactly sure of his chances. Lit, he looked off, and not off like his eyes were crossed, or that he wore part of his hair up and the other half down. No, Lit looked off in the most dangerous way.

Lit was yolked and his strong arms had been littered with scars. In a way, Percy almost sympathized with the man, those scars were proof of pain, and Percy could only imagine what Lit had gone through. That sympathy vanished though at the man's mugshot. It was the first time Percy had ever seen someone smile at their own arrest, and it sent chills down his spine. Sure his face was heavily scarred and his long curly dark hair looked incredibly greasy, but it was his twisted grin that bothered Percy the most.

"Come on, man," Percy said, "Just take a break and stop for breakfast. It'll take five minutes, max."

"I said, I'm fine," Frank hissed. "Why are you so worried about me anyway."

"Because if you lose focus due to low blood sugar and crash this van at the speed we're going, we'll die?" Percy answered.

"You know," Frank grumbled, "I was hoping you'd be less irritating than Leo, at least. We really know how to pick great consultants. The criminal and the clown." Frank shook his head, "Look, I'm sorry I snapped at you, but can we just focus on our jobs. We need to find Lit."

Percy sank back into the beaten chair, "And we're going to do this by driving aimlessly around New Rome? This can't be the lead tactic for NRPD." Percy sighed, "Also, honestly, who cares if we don't find Lit in time. It's not like he's an innocent old lady, he's a human trafficker."

"Alleged Human Trafficker," Frank corrected. "And even if he is, he still has rights. It's our job to protect the people of New Rome, all of them."

"Sounds like the people of New Rome would be safer with him dead," Percy returned, "Plus, then if we can link the murder of Lit to Cleander, that would be two baddies dealt with, right?"

"Gods, you really are just like Leo," Frank snarled. "Can't take anything seriously."

"I take serious things seriously," Percy said. His brow tightened, "But if you want me to be serious, fine. Stop this nonsense and get some food. Reyna only sent us on this task because she got flustered with Themis and irritated with me. She can't leave me unattended so she lumped me with you. Honestly, this is nothing more than a babysitting job and you know that."

Frank pulled over and glared at Percy. It was clear as day that Frank didn't like to have his work degraded in the fashion Percy had done. "Look," Percy continued, "When we're needed and Reyna thinks the trail is hot, she'll call you in for backup. When that happens, then we can get all serious. For now though, let's just take a deep breath and relax. Do you like coffee?"

Frank nodded and it hadn't taken much more to get the large man to drive to Ceres Cafe. Percy returned the hug from Katie which caused the woman to smile brightly and lead them to their table. Percy placed his order, then Frank's and soon the hot coffees had arrived at their table.

"This is wrong," Frank muttered, "We should be searching for Lit."

"Should, could," Percy waved it off, "Relax. Drink. We need to talk anyway."

"About what?" Frank asked.

"I don't know? Whatever it is you want to talk about?" Percy suggested. "I just think it's odd that I'm supposed to trust you to watch my back and I don't know anything about you."

"Doesn't bother me much," Frank returned.

"Fair, but you also get to have a gun," Percy acknowledged. "I, on the other hand, have to trust you to keep me save." Percy smiled, "Come on, big guy, it doesn't have to be anything serious, just tell me anything, I won't pry."

Frank did, and Percy listened. He listened to how Frank's father was a deadbeat, how his mother had died Afghanistan and how he'd been raised by his grandmother in Canada before he immigrated to New Rome and started work in America. He briefly mentioned his girlfriend, Hazel, though, never mentioned her name and talked about how their relationship was solid. Percy wasn't sure if it was a lie or not, but Frank seemed to believe what he said totally.

He grinned when Frank talked about why he joined the police. "Not military material, but still wanted to do some good." Percy couldn't agree less, Frank looked like perfect military material, but he figured there was more to it than that. As promised though, Percy didn't pry. He sipped his coffee slowly and awaited the question he knew was soon to come.

"What about you, Jackson? What's your story?"

"Not interesting?" Percy lied, "Sad mostly. Only knew my dad. He died in an accident, I'd rather not get into. Then, I roamed. I didn't want to be in the foster system, but I had nothing else. I did what I had to do to survive. I must have hit my head somewhere along the way and lost my memory. Truthfully, I don't even remember how I ended up in New Rome. But I figure when in New Rome, do as the New Romans do."

"So you were a criminal too in your past," Frank hissed.

"Hey now, don't get all judgey," Percy said, "I never got caught. But I am curious, by too, you mean Leo, right?" Frank's silence was answer enough. "Tell me, why do you call Leo a criminal?"

"You two are so chummy, why don't you ask him yourself," Frank said before he took a large sip of his coffee.

"I've tried, but he's trying to swindle me out of as many free meals as he can," Percy said. "Look for the same reason I asked about you, I'm asking about Leo, can I trust him?"

Frank sat in his chair like a statue. Percy studied the man, but he had to admit that he was impressed, Frank looked impenetrable. He brought the coffee cup up to his lips and took another large swig before he, to Percy's great surprise, he nodded, "Yeah, you can."

"But he's a criminal? And I thought you hated him?"

"You asked if I trusted him to watch my back, not if I wanted to marry him," Frank returned. "Look, Leo, he's a genius. Flunked his way through High School and barely graduated and joined the air-force as this plane maintenance guy. Couple years back I guess that his mom started getting sick so he opted out of his next contract and came back to the civilian lifestyle. Took a job at the New Rome airport here for Boreas Airlines and from what I understand became great friends with this pilot named Jason Grace. He was sort of this Golden Boy around here when he landed this plane that caught fire safely into the ocean without a single loss of life."

"Cool guy," Percy said, "I'd love to meet him."

"Yeah, well, that line's pretty big and it's not shrinking that's for sure," Frank scoffed. "A little over a year ago, Grace went missing. Vanished into thin air. Leo started to search for him. He came into the NRPD asking for any information we had on the case. Of course, by regulation standards, we denied him of anything more than we'd give the public. Leo didn't like that so he hacked us, and even got into the federal database before we could even trace him. When we did finally catch him, Leo got offered amnesty if he worked with us. His only demand was to be put on the Jason case, and that's how he ended up as part of the Twelfth Legion."

"Don't get me wrong," Frank said, "I hate the guy, but he's not an evil person, even if he is a criminal in my eyes."

"You have a very black and white view of the world," Percy noted, "I think you should try to lose that. From what I heard you say, I don't think Leo even did anything wrong."

Frank's eyes sharpened, but Percy sat unmoved. Frank was a teddy bear, Percy could see right through the tough facade. That didn't mean the man was harmless, far from it, but Percy didn't believe for a second Frank would ever do him harm intentionally. The silence was broken by Frank's ringtone. The phone quaked on the table long enough for Percy to see Reyna's name flash on it and reached for the phone before Frank could.

Frank glared at Percy, but Percy paid the large man no mind and answered. "Hello?"

"Jackson? Why are you answering Zhang's calls?"

"Does that really matter?" Percy asked. "Come on, what's up?"

"Have you been searching for Lit?" Reyna asked.

"Sure," Percy replied, "Right now we're canvassing a coffee shop. There looks to be no sign of him here."
"Jackson," Reyna hissed, "I gave you explicit order to-"

"I know you did, but c'mon, we all know you didn't actually care if we did them or not," Percy answered. "Seriously, detective, any leads?"

"Not yet," Reyna replied, her frustration overtaken with exhaustion. "Valdez and I are just sitting at the apartment but Cleander hasn't left since Themis brought him back here. If he's going after Lit, it's not going to be until late I feel."

"Probably," Percy agreed, "So um… do you want us to bring you some donuts or something?"

"She's watching her figure!" Leo yelled through the mic before he groaned from what Percy could only hope was a soft punch from Reyna.

"No," Reyna said harshly. "What I need you two to do is to go back to the station and to start taking reports. Themis called a news conference to bash us for our stunt earlier this morning and let slip the news of a possible underground sex ring. Commissioner Chase asked me to send you two back to help take reports from the loved ones of these missing persons, because they might be connected to the trafficking case."

"Ah, sounds boring," Percy said. "Also, I literally can't do anything about that. I'm not a cop. I have an idea though. Why don't you and Frank go back to the office and Leo and I can babysit Cleander?"
"Absolutely not!" Reyna barked.

"Fine, fine," Percy said, "I'll pass the message along."

"Percy wait, let me talk to Frank, I don't want you-" click.

Frank eyed Percy suspiciously and snatched the phone from his hand. Percy smiled at Frank's unasked question, "Well, Frank, I'm afraid I have some bad news for you. Reyna wants you back at the station because our friend Themis leaked some information about the possible sex ring and you have a lot of reports to take."

"What about you?" Frank asked.

"Oh, Reyna asked for me to come meet up with her and Leo. Backup and all that stuff." Percy said. He shuffled through his pockets and placed the cash for the drinks and a tip on the table for Katie. "Oh yeah, also, what kind of donuts does Reyna like?"

Powdered Sugar, Percy thought. The fresh warm dough filled his nostrils on the walk towards the car he knew to be Reyna's. Frank had been a bit of a spoilsport and took him all the way back to the station rather than to the donut shop, but Percy made due. The trollies had been a great help and a little afternoon, Percy had found Reyna's car.

The girl jumped in her seat when Percy knocked on her window and her faced twisted into a mean scowl. Nevertheless, he was let in, and after a 'firm reprimand' Reyna took one of the donuts from the box. Percy laid down in the backseat quietly, Leo had suggested rock-paper-scissors to pass the time, but Reyna put a stop to all the 'nonsense' right away. Compared to the special ops missions of his old life, his job at the NRPD was exceptionally, well, boring.

Reyna tapped her fingers nervously, and her thumb rubbed against her index finger like it was the spark wheel of a lighter. Reyna was far more nervous that Percy first thought. He sat up and leaned against the passenger side door before he muttered, "For what it's worth, I don't think that you're going to get fired."

"Thanks," Reyna said. She pulled back her hair a chuckled, "This may sound dumb, but this is the first time I've ever really gotten in trouble doing my job. Honestly, I think I'm more afraid of seeing the disappointment on Commissioner Chase's face than I am of loosing my badge."

"The Commissioner means a lot to you, huh?" Percy asked.

"He's like my dad," Reyna said, "In the way that dads are the ones that help guide you through the hard work part of life. At least, according to the stereotypes. Honestly, I wouldn't know what normal dads do."

"Looks like we've all got some daddy issues, huh?" Leo added in, "Dead, Dead, Deadbeat, and in jail for trying to murder their kids." Percy raised his brow and Leo clamped his mouth shut, "Sorry."

"For fuck's sake, Leo," Reyna huffed. "Jackson, you didn't hear any of that, okay?"

"Not really my place to ask," Percy said honestly. "Didn't know you had a sibling though."

"I don't," Reyna sneered, "Not as far as I care."

You certainly are a mystery, Percy thought, though he was far from someone to judge. "Look, I need to get some air. Don't do anything stupid when I'm gone." The two nodded and Percy followed Reyna from behind the glass of the car window. Reyna shuffled through her pockets and pulled a lighter and a cigarette from her pockets. A orange flame flickered for a second in the alley before a small puff of smoke took its place.

Leo looked horrible. His palm gripped his face and he slumped forward. "Stupid, stupid, stupid," he mumbled softly, "Why did I say that?"

"Don't beat yourself up too much," Percy said, "For what it's worth, I assumed Reyna had a fucked up life from the moment I met her. She has this kind of damaged intensity about her to the point that if you told me she lived a normal life, I wouldn't have believed you."

Leo nodded glumly and Percy rested his hand on his shoulder. Then almost as if his body acted on its own, he pushed Leo down. The window glass shattered and Percy's ears rang loudly. Leo scrambled to the backseat before the two ducked again, the back window glass in pieces. Percy kicked his leg out and snapped the door hinges before he rolled Leo out of the car and followed after.

Reyna screamed in distress, her pistol aimed at window of Cleander's apartment. Percy pushed Leo agains the alley wall for cover and began to inspect the boy. Leo followed his orders perfectly and while rattled, didn't look to be in any pain. Reyna shot two shots towards the window and Cleander responded in kind.

"Out free for now and decides to celebrate by shooting cops," Leo hissed, "Just who the fuck is this-"

Leo couldn't even finish his sentence before Reyna roared in pain. The detective stumbled forward and clutched her leg tightly. Wet blood seeped between her fingers and pain glistened behind Reyna's eyes. Percy scanned furiously, desperate to find the source of the attack, he didn't have to look hard, there was only one direction the shot had come from, and Percy soon found the men before him.

"Shoulda never let Cleander go free," The man muttered. He was tall, maybe over six and half feet and from what Percy could tell, shredded. His skin glistened with an airbrushed tan and a cruelty rested behind his annoyingly stunning blue eyes. "Cleander's one of my boys, I don't like it when people treat him badly."

Leo lifted his hands in the air slowly, "Look Commodus, just let us go. You've made your point, we'll drop it. You already got our cop." Leo pointed towards Percy, "He and I aren't even cops, we won't do anything if you just let us go."

Commodus smiled, "That's a tempting offer- not." He pointed his gun towards Reyna's head, "The Triumvirate, is one of the most powerful underground families. The girl here seemed to forget that and we can't let that go unpunished."

Percy lunged forward and forced the man's hand to the sky before he sent Commodus into the alley wall with a roundhouse kick. Percy spun around and grabbed Reyna in his arms. "Run!" He ordered and to Leo's credit, he didn't need to be told twice. They raced down the alley and barley avoided the shots that came their way.

"Get her to the sewers and stay there, call for help when you get there! I'm going to cause a diversion!" Percy said. Leo nodded and took Reyna from him. Fear filled Leo's eyes but Percy sent him a soft smile, "She's counting on you Leo, don't let her down."

Determination replaced the fear in Leo and the scrawny boy gathered the strength of Frank. He hobbled when he ran, but he knew the Nyx better than most. Percy knew they'd be safe. He rolled the knots from his shoulder and steadied his breath, he'd make sure of it.

Percy held his ground and waited. In a way, he was thankful that they hadn't gotten too far, it made the wait far shorter. He scanned Commodus curiously when Percy noticed the blue-eyed man had chased after him. A cool smile rested on Percy's face when he locked eyes with one of the Triumvirate's leaders. "I'll admit it, I'm impressed. I figured I would have at least shattered a rib with that last kick. I must be kind of rusty."

Commodus lifted his hand and halted his six men. At his command, each of the thugs lowered their guns and Commodus wiped the blood from his lip. "You hit hard, I'll admit that, but you made me look like a chump in front of my men and I can't allow that." Commodus tossed his gun to the side and tightened his fist, "You got a surprise hit on me last time, because of that, I'm going to break you in half with my bare hands."

"That would be something alright," Percy said with a yawn, "You might find that harder than you think."

Percy did well when it came to the facade, but it had been a while since his last taste of real combat. Commodus lunged towards him and Percy weaved out of the fist's way. He kept his form tight and low like a boxer. He bobbed left, then stepped right, each action met with a stream of wind from the closely dodged blow.

A grunt erupted from Commodus' lungs and Percy lifted his arm just in time to block the fast kick aimed at his head. He grit his teeth at the kick's force, for a non-enhanced man, Commodus' strength was no joke. Percy shot his free fist forward and twisted his knuckles into Commodus' torso. Commodus groaned from the strike. The man's leg fell and he hunched over, his hands tightly pressed over his defined abs.

"That last kick should have shattered your arm," Commodus spat. "Just what the hell are you?"

"A consultant for the NRPD," Percy answered.

Commodus growled and rushed him once more. Percy caught the man's fist with ease. There was no strategy in his form, just blind anger. In a way, it made Commodus more predicable and less of a threat, but the man was even stronger than before. The curly-haired man's head shook like a volcano ready to erupt. His veins popped all across his forehead when Percy caught his second fist. Had Percy the presence of mind to focus in on the whispers of the men behind Commodus he may have even heard the remarks behind their shocked stares, unfortunately, he was a bit too occupied.

I've really got to take him out of the fight, Percy thought. His feet shuffled backwards; a new plan in action. Those cops need to get here soon Leo, or I'm going to have the blow my cover for real. The cold wall of some boarded up shop right beside the alley hit his back and on cue, Percy dropped Commodus' hand. The Triumvirate's Leader recoiled before he tightened his fist once more. Percy smirked and waited until the punch was just a few centimeters from his face, before, as if he had lightning in his veins, he tiled his head.

The crack of the bones in Commodus' hand rang in the air and Percy flinched at the gruesome sound. The bulky man roared in agony and pulled back his mangled hand, the once tan skin now coated in red and colored with hints of red and purple. "Y-You Bastard!"

Percy smiled, his ears had finally picked up the sound he'd awaited as sirens rang out in the distance. "I told you that you were going to find breaking me a bit harder than you thought. You really should listen to me."

Commodus stumbled backwards. Percy could only imagine the cold-fire that pounded through the man's hand, but he didn't exactly feel sympathy for one of the Underground Heads. "You listen to me," Commodus snapped back, "You're going to pay for that!" His eyes shot to the men behind him, "Boys! Shoot Him!"

The sirens blared overhead and Commodus' eyes widened before he snarled. Without a word, he turned and ran. Percy's brow furrowed, and he watched as a panic swelled within the abandoned men him. Percy lifted his hands over his head patiently. A shiver flashed through the point man in the group and Percy smiled, "Look, I don't want any problems. Just drop the guns and we can all get out of this alive, okay?"

"Commodus gave us orders!" The man at the front shouted. He was around the same height as Commodus, but way more beefy, for lack of a better word. Tribal tattoos decorates his arms and face and the silver hair that flowed from his beard and head only added to the man's barbarian look.

"But Vince, the cops are almost here, if we shoot then we're not going to get out of here-," Another, younger man from behind him started.

"We're not getting out of here anyway!" Vince roared, "might as well take a few of them out with us."

Percy's fist coiled, but released almost instantly as the footsteps of armed men and sirens finally arrived on location. Percy sighed at the sight of Commissioner Chase, pistol in hand behind a wall of six, heavily-armed officers, one of which was Frank. "Drop the weapons and get down on the ground. Fail to do so, and we'll open fire!"

Commissioner Chase's voice was laced with anger. His pistol trembled in his hands and Percy had an idea of just how clear a picture Leo must have painted about Reyna's injury. "Do it now!"

Vince turned on his heel and smiled, the barrel of his gun aimed at the Commissioner, "Commodus sends his regards." Just as Vince put the slightest pressure on the trigger a hail of rifle fire mowed through the posse of Commodus' thugs. Percy glanced away and only heard the bodies drop with an unceremonious thud.

"What a waste of life," Percy sighed. His body jumped at the touch of the commissioner's hand and instantly he noticed the redness in the man's eyes. "Reyna is with Leo beneath the manhole a little further down. I don't think she took a life-threatening shot but she's going to need medical attention ASAP."

"I'll come with you," Frank said, but stopped at the Commissioner's orders.

"Leo said shots came from Cleander," Chase hissed, "Arrest the son of a bitch and bring him in alive. He'll answer to me directly for his attack on Reyna."

"Yes sir," Frank returned proudly. Much to his displeasure though, Percy followed the man. He'd no sooner reached the end of the alley before, from the back of the apartment complex, a car bursted onto the road.

"Wanna bet that's Cleander?" Percy said.

Frank snarled and raced towards one of the cop cars. Percy sprinted behind him, he only barley managed to shut the passenger side door before Frank sped off behind the vehicle. The sirens howled in pursuit and Percy couldn't help but marvel from the speed of cop car. Percy didn't really know much about cars, but Cleander's looked fast and yet, Frank was on him like a stain.

The silver car's window dropped and Frank lowered his head just as bullets began to bounce off the car's hood. "Well, that confirms our theory," Percy said grimly.

Part of Percy almost felt bad for Cleander. The man wasn't the worst get away driver he'd ever seen. The only problem was that his pursuer was Frank, and as Percy had learned quickly, nobody outmaneuvered Frank. Percy jumped in his seat at Cleander's desperate turn into this storage unit. The steel, chained-linked fence snapped like twigs from Cleander's relentless rush through it, and Frank followed suit.

Percy didn't know the Nyx well to start with, but he was completely lost. He only hoped Frank knew where they were because if he had to find his way back to the station, it would take him more time than there was daylight. Even around the tight corners of the storage lot, Frank chased at high speed, the layout was a maze and Frank couldn't afford to slow down. If he had, then just maybe, he'd have seen the caltrops that littered the ground beneath them.

Percy cursed as the flattened tires flipped the car forward and groaned from the tumble. Two destroyed cars in a day, he thought to himself, I really am on a roll. Frank's head bobbed like a figurine and Percy swore he saw the man's eyes roll back into his head for a moment. Distantly, footsteps echoed and grew closer by the second.

Percy lifted his hand over the shattered glass carefully and pulled Frank's pistol from his holster. Always cleaning up after you guys. Percy forced strength into his legs and sent the passenger side door to the ground. He rolled out of the vehicle behind a thin layer of cover and spun the pistol in his hand before he steadied his grip. He peaked his head past from beyond the cover but a bullet flew towards him in seconds.

"Okay," He said to himself, "Might be a bit tricker than I thought."

"Shoulda never followed me!" Cleander shouted, "Now you're going to die like the pig you are."

"Pig adjacent!" Percy corrected, "Not a cop remember!"

"You were right about him," A new voice called out, "He really is an idiot."

"Lit, I'm guessing," Percy said.

"What about it?" Lit returned, the sneer present in his voice.

"Nothing, I'm just surprised you too are teaming up!" Percy called out, "I mean, especially since Cleander sold you out to walk!"

"That's a lie!" Cleander roared, "I walked because of Themis!"

"Yes, that and the fact that you flipped on him." Percy said, "Not only did he tell us about the drug operation that you are complacent in, he also told us about that man that set up this whole underground thing. Kronos, I think you said his name was?"

"You're lying!" Cleander hissed, "I don't even know his name!"

"Maybe, but Lit does, don't you. Commodus always did like him more than you?" Percy added.

"Cleander," Lit hissed, "How does he know that name?"

"I swear I didn't tell him anything I-," Percy's eyes shut at the sound of gunshots before Cleander's body hit the ground.

"You certainly don't waste anytime do you?" Percy asked.

"If he was a rat, he got what he deserved." Lit said evenly, "If he wasn't, that just means he wasn't good enough to not get caught. I don't care which." Lit stepped cautiously through the smoke from the flipped car and Percy readied himself.

"I suppose it does hurt a little, but I'm sure Commodus will understand, especially when I bring him your head too." Lit said. Percy swallowed as Lit emerged through the smoke his gun aimed at Percy's head. "Drop the gun, consultant."

Lit's mangled face smiled at the position. Percy's face stayed flat, and he concealed an eye roll as he weighed his options, if I get out of here unharmed, that kinda blows my whole innocent citizen image. He tilted his head gently, it has been a while since I've been shot though. I wonder if it hurts as much as I remember. Maybe Reyna and I can get matching scars, I'm sure that would irritate her.

Lit's gun rammed into his forehead and Percy smiled. He lifted his hand in surrender and with a patient voice he whispered, "Alright, you got me."

"You're awfully calm about dying," Lit said.

"I could say the same to you." Percy's eyes followed Lit's finger. Just before the trigger pulled Percy pulled down Lit's wrist and bit back a murmur of pain as the bullet ran through his shoulder. Percy slammed his head forward and Lit's nose shattered on impact of Percy's hardened skull.

Without a moment to waste, Percy kicked away Lit's gun and dropped for his own. For a guy with scars all over him, Percy guessed he shouldn't have been surprise that pain didn't shock him. Lit wasted no time and raced towards his own vehicle without hesitation. Percy shot towards the target but apparently, catching a bullet in the arm that usually holds the gun steady worsens your aim a tad.

Percy readied himself to chase but stopped at the sight of the flipped cop car. Frank, Percy remembered. He dropped the gun and raced towards the injured man's side. With equal force, he pried the driver side door free of its hinges before he yanked Frank out of the car. The rubber of Lit's tires burned against the pavement before he bolted off. Percy only grit his teeth and continued to tend to Frank. He wasn't exactly a doctor, but he'd seen quite a bit of FUBAR men, and while Frank wasn't that bad, he'd be in the hospital for a while. Discoloration riddled his body and only the faint sound of sirens helped him stay focused on the situation.

Percy could hear Frank's heartbeat through his chest and sighed with relief as he put him up against one of the storage units walls. "Hang tight Frank," He muttered before he stood to face the storage unit Cleander had parked his car in front of, "I'm about to find out what it was they so badly wanted to keep a secret.

Percy gripped his shoulder and marched forward towards the foldable garage door that covered the entryway into the unit. He aimed the grip of the gun towards the padlock, before he slammed down on it. He poured his strength into his arms and bashed away at the lock until finally, it fell. The chains that lifted the door had proven to be a bit harder to manage with one good arm, but Percy did, and a few grunts later, the door hung height enough for Percy to enter, but his heart sank at what he saw.

A young girl, maybe around Leo's age laid disrobed and beaten on the floor. Percy ran towards the unconscious girl and covered her with his coat. Her caramel hair was dusted with dirt and dark spots littered her otherwise lightly-tanned skin. Percy pulled back her eye-lids gently to reveal dark almond shaped eyes that should no reflex. His hands coiled and the dark storage room was now lit with flashing red and blue lights. Percy felt his blood boil at the sight of a single chain around the girl's neck. A simple steel chain with a scythe that dangled from it.

"Kronos," Percy growled.

A/N: Oh man, things are certainly getting interesting! I hope the teams going to be okay and hopefully, Percy will get his wish about staying under-cover! I hope that even aside from the action you loved the team dynamics, because I sure loved writing them! With all that said, please be sure to Follow, Favorite, and Review! Peace Out Peeps!
