Kara didn't know what to think of her evening with Lena. On the one hand she wanted to believe that she wasn't like the rest of her family, but on the other hand, naked Lena had this intriguing and fascinating side that really disturbed Kara. Without explaining why, the range of emotions that invaded her heart and body in the presence of this woman was both unknown and strangely familiar to her.
To put an end to her doubts, she was convinced that she needed to find out what the box hidden inside the wall of Lena's office could be. She was convinced it was the key.
She was surprised by her daydreaming about someone knocking on her door, when she opened it, she was surprised that it was her sister Alex, who was never in the habit of knocking, going straight into Kara's apartment.
She was checking on her dinner with Lena to see if she had managed to find out anything about the Luthors.
- I didn't discover anything special, except...
- Except what?
- Well, I don't know, it's weird, there's a part of this woman's mystery that I can't figure out.
- On the one hand, she's a Luthor, and on the other hand, she has this warm and generous side which is the exact opposite of her family.
- But I can't figure out if it's a facade or if it's real.
- Maybe it's both," Alex said.
- After all, Lex was a generous man before he fell into Luthor madness.
- Well, Kara, I didn't come to see you just to ask about your dinner with Lena.
- What do you mean, you didn't?
- I came to tell you that tomorrow I'm going to see Lena at Cat&Co to officially interview her. Human affairs aren't so much the domain of the WD, but since the Luthors have the technology to kill Superman, and by extension, so do you, we've decided to investigate. And I'm going to question Lena tomorrow about that warehouse where you discovered human clones.
- Be careful Alex, we don't know if Lena is like her family, but I'm sure of one thing though, this woman won't let you push her to her limits, whether she's guilty or not.
- Don't worry Kara, I may not have superpowers, but I can be persuasive without... she says with a wink to her sister.
- Indeed, you did a good job of convincing Maggie to marry you so... her sister laughed.
- You don't pay anything to wait for Kara," Alex said, throwing her a trinket she knew her sister would catch up on.
Alex left soon after, leaving Kara alone with her thoughts again.
The next day Kara arrived at work on time for once. She had agreed with her sister that she should take the Luthor away from her desk for a few minutes so that she could interview her and find out for herself what was hidden in Lena's lead box.
Alex said a quick hello to her sister as she walked past her on her way to the Luthor's office.
She passed directly in front of the secretary who tried in vain to stop her, entered without knocking on the front door of Lena's office, and froze on the spot, as if paralyzed, an immense feeling of betrayal invading her at that moment.
She slammed the door in front of the secretary, who left at Lena's command, who told her that everything was fine and found herself face to face with Lena completely astonished.
- T... Tess is that... is that you? Are you alive?!
- It's not what you think Alex did Lena while hastily writing a word on a blank piece of paper.
On this paper it was written:
The office is bugged, your sister is in great danger if my father finds out I've been talking to you, meet me tonight at the corner of rue Adrien Rousseau at eight o'clock, I'll explain everything, don't say anything to your sister. Pretend to be angry with me when you leave this office.
Then she handed the paper to an Alex who was still in shock to know that not only was Tess alive, but that she was Lionel Luthor's daughter and now called herself Lena.
But when Alex read the note, because of her former friendship with her, she took the part of believing her, because the person she had known in the past wouldn't have hurt Kara for anything in the world.
So she did what was written on the paper and stormed out of her office, slamming the door and swearing loudly that the Luthors were a menace to society.
She had completely forgotten that she had to get Lena out of her office for Kara to open that box.
Kara asked her what had happened, but her sister walked past without even talking to her. She knew that she could never have resisted Kara and would eventually tell her the truth. But she knew deep down that she had to trust Lena in memory of their past friendship and especially the love Lena had for her sister.
Kara was astonished to see her sister leave like that without even speaking to her, but she still had the goal of finding out what was hidden in the mysterious lead box despite everything. She looked for a new way to get Tess away from her desk, but Tess didn't need it because Lena took her things and part of herself from her office and ordered her secretary to get the limousine ready for her.
For once karma was with her, she thought Kara inside.
As soon as Lena and her secretary left, Kara discreetly entered Lena's office, scanned the room with her x-ray vision, found the box, discovered the opening of the box and finally opened it.
Inside, there were no compromising documents or other objects or evidence against the Luthors, instead, letters, letters that Lena was addressing to a mysterious person, a mysterious person that Lena must have cared a lot about for hiding her letters in a lead box away from ALL eyes, even from Superman and Supergirl. When she saw that these were personal letters, she knew she had to stop reading, that it was wrong to do that, but yet she couldn't help but read them all, as if an invisible force was asking her to do so, pushing her to do something that literally burned her fingers.
My love, already a year since you left, leaving a void in my heart that can never be filled. Not seeing your smiles anymore, your big blue eyes, your pout when you sulk because you didn't get what you wanted, your loving look when you look at me with those eyes that tell me how much you care about me, I miss your infinite strength.
Your breath on my skin, your skin against my skin, that shiver that ran through us instantly when our fingers were just touching, the magic of our looks where neither of us needed to speak to know what the other was thinking.
I try to give the world the image of a strong woman, a ruthless and heartless woman, but how could people know that my heart belongs to you and that it was stolen from me, how could I find a semblance of humanity when inside me I am no longer, just a shadow of myself, fighting every day with my demons to even stay alive. Only the hope of seeing you again one day gives me the courage to get up every morning, even if every morning tears come to my eyes when I look next to me and you are not at my side with your beautiful azure blue eyes that will tell me how much you care about me. You'd probably try to get up before me, making me breakfast, you'd probably burn it all down and I'd gently mock you and make up for it by circling you with my arms, making that slack you've been pretending to make up in your face to get kisses of forgiveness from me. Yet you knew you didn't need to cut yourself some slack to get forgiveness. My heart, my body and my soul were all yours, and you didn't need any tricks to make me feel like I wanted to take you in my arms, just a simple look, a thought from me, and then you were in my arms. I miss you so much my love that every day is a real torture, to know that you're not there anymore is just... just horrible, I don't live anymore, I survive...
All the letters were in the same spirit as the first one, Lena noting with her words all the love she felt for this person.
Kara thought: - wow she really loves this person, I would love to love and be loved that way too.
Then came the last letter :
You are here is not new in my life and yet the torture has not disappeared, it has even become stronger and hotter. Seeing you every day without being able to tell you who I am, touching you, hugging you or kissing you is torture without a name. You no longer have any memories of me, of us, all the love that we lived, gone. I know, my love, that it is not your fault, you sacrificed your life saving me and lost your memory of it, but seeing you there, with your mischief and clumsiness are hard to live with and I have to draw on all the resources that are inside of me so that I don't fall into madness like the rest of my family.
How I would like to touch you, to feel you close to me again, to feel your fingers running through my skin again, to feel how infinite our love for each other is. There is no doubt that if I told you who I am, you would eventually regain your memory, at the restaurant already, your ear must have felt how my heart was about to burst, so fast and strong it was beating. But I can't tell you who I am or the truth, if my love for you is infinite, telling you who I am will cause your death. And I couldn't bear that. I'd rather live in a world where you don't remember me than live in a world where you are no longer. Yet I work my love, I have been working for years now on a cure for you and your cousin, years of pretending to be a cold and soulless Luthor when all this time I have spent it finding a solution for us to be together again. It is that hope that has now kept me alive all these years, the hope that we could love each other again, without fear and fearlessness, just you, me, and our love for each other.
And I soon succeeded Kara, or I succeeded, there is only one small detail left and I succeeded FINALLY we will soon be reunited. All those years when my father thought I was helping him create his clones, I actually spent them creating a kryptonite vaccine. I remembered that on your planet kryptonite helps save lives, and I discovered that on Earth, the molecule that allowed kryptonite to save lives was blocked by the oxygen of the planet, which was probably different on your planet. So I managed to find a way to block this oxygen molecule and I finally managed to create a vaccine, because yes my love, I have created a vaccine for you and Superman. The vaccine is not perfect, you will have to make an injection every month, but there it is, the solution what we are together again. Lionel won't be able to blackmail me into helping him by threatening to kill you, he just won't be able to. All I have to do is synthesize the vaccine and together we can fight the Luthors again. And even if you don't remember me, when my father's threat to kill you becomes a bad memory, then I will spend my life trying to make you happy, trying to prove my love for you, even if it means that you will never remember us. Your happiness and friendship will be more than enough for me because my love for you is so great.
Kara was paralyzed on the spot, didn't dare to move, and wondered why this woman was talking about her, because she was talking about her, Kara was her name, and then Superman, Supergirl, obviously she knew where they came from.
Then Kara suddenly felt her body suddenly empty and collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
She got up a few minutes later, and everything was clear again.
- I remember, I remember everything! And she set off at super speed, leaving only a gust of wind seeping into Lena's office.
