Chapter Twelve: Dawn and Diamonds

Jeri, Ai, Mako, Suzie and Calumon all waited for the rest of their friends to come back. But when it took a lot longer than they thought and when they started hearing war cries and explosions coming from the woods, they all became nervous. Mako looked to his sister and asked, "Do you think they're gonna be okay?"

"I hope so." Ai said, unable to not feel worried about them. Jeri had her hands clasped together and in front of her mouth as she couldn't help but worry about Takato and the others. Suzie had a tight, but not too tight, grip on Calumon. The older Tamer then said, "Oh, I hope Gandalf and the others come back soon."

"Come back soon for what?" Rika's voice said from behind them. All five looked back to see Gandalf, Rika and Ryo riding up on horseback. Renamon appeared out of nowhere, startling the five. Ryo looked about the campsite and asked, "Where is everyone?"

"Speak, young ones." Gandalf requested. Jeri pointed to the woods and said, "Takato, Guilmon and Bilbo all went to go and free some ponies that had been taken by Mountain Trolls, but when Fili and Kili came back to get some back up, everyone rushed into the woods."

"Then we heard the sounds of fighting." Calumon added. Suzie then said, "Henry and everyone's been gone for a while now."

"And I think that this has something do with it." Ai and Mako said as they looked down at their D-Ark. Everyone was able to see what Impmon was seeing. Suzie was surprised, "Hey, that's how I was able to see what Antylamon was seeing during the fight with giant blob."

"You kids and your Digimon are full of surprises." Gandalf said as he was impressed. They saw that Impmon was looking at a trio of Trolls, but when he turned to his right, all eyes widened at the sight. Rika looked to her partner and asked, "Now that's a familiar face. Isn't it Renamon?"

"It sure is. Even if it isn't the same one." Renamon agreed. The one who was mostly in the dark was Gandalf. He asked, "Which Digimon is that?"

"Hold on." Ai said and the screen changed. It showed an image of the Digimon in question. Rika then said, "He's called Fugamon. A champion level, ogre-like Digimon. Me and Renamon tangled with one before."

"But what's a Digimon doing with Trolls?" Mako threw the biggest question. The image changed again to see what Impmon was seeing. Renamon then said, "We'll worry about it later, right now our friends look like they're on the menu."

"Then we must hurry." Gandalf said before walking into the woods. Rika looked to Jeri and glanced to the youngest when she said, "Jeri, you stay here with them."

"Right." Jeri nodded, knowing that she would only get in the way. Rika looked to Ryo and said, "You too."

"What? Why?" Ryo questioned. It even confused the others a little. Rika then said, "Because you can help them use the right card. It took a little effort between me and Renamon to take the Fugamon we faced down."

"Fine." Ryo said, not wanting to be left out of the action, but complied. Renamon and Rika ran after the Wizard to save their friends.

"Oh! That's hot, that's hot, that's hot!" Nori shouted as Tom dropped some more logs on the fire. The Trolls and Fugamon had created a rotisserie and placed some of the Dwarves, Kenta, Kazu and Impmon on the spit, all tied up and being cooked alive. The others had been put into sacks and laid to the side. Everyone squirmed, whether to get free or because of the fire underneath them. Tom looked amongst their captives and said, "Don't bother cooking them. Let's just sit on them and squash them into jelly." Then pointing to Fugamon he said, "And it's pointless with you, since the three digital runts will just turn into dust before being eaten by you."

"But a little seasoning might not hurt." Fugamon argued as he looked about the three captive Digimon. Impmon then shouted, "Just try it, I dares ya!"

"We ain't going down that easy!" Terriermon shouted from the group in the sacks. But Fugamon ignored them and turned back to help when he could with the spit. Bert agreed with the Digimon by saying, "Fugamon's right. They should be sauteed and grilled with a sprinkle of sage."

"Oh." Tom said as it did sound pretty good. Everyone on the spit seemed a bit worried about what they were saying. Tom nodded in agreement, "That does sound quite nice there."

"Nothing wrong with a little seasoning." Fugamon said with a nod. Bert and William continued to turn the spit. The Dwarves, children of Men and Digimon continued to struggle in the sacks, "Untie me, mister. Eat someone your own size."

"Never mind the seasoning. We ain't got all night." William shook his head, feeling that it wasn't worth it. Then he reminded, "Dawn ain't that far away now. So let's get a move on."

From those in the sacks, Bilbo caught on to what the Troll was saying. Then glancing to Fugamon he said, "And since we told you already, you know why." With a shudder he said, "I don't fancy being turned to stone. No, I don't."

A plan began to form in Bilbo's head and since they were the closest to him, Takato and Guilmon noticed. Takato whispered to the Hobbit, "If you have a plan, go for it."

"What about Fugamon?" Bilbo questioned, feeling nervous about the ogre-like Digimon. Guilmon then said, "Maybe Gandalf and the others will come to our rescue soon."

"True." Bilbo nodded as he had a good point. Then looking to the Trolls and Fugamon he shouted, "Wait!"

The Trolls, Fugamon and the Company heard the Hobbit shouting. They all looked to the Hobbit and Bilbo said, "You four are making a terrible mistake."

"You can't reason with the Trolls. They're half-wits!" Dori shouted as those on the spit continued to be turned. Impmon was in agreement when he shouted, "I know that Fugamon are right there too!"

This caused all four of their enemies to growl. Bilbo was able to rise off the ground even though he was stuck in the sack. Bofur then questioned, "Half-wits? What does that make us then?"

"I meant with the seasoning." Bilbo said as he hopped closer to the fire. It got the Trolls to stop turning the spit. Even the Company looked to the Hobbit with questioning looks. Guilmon leaned closer to Takato and quietly asked, "This is part of the plan, right?"

"Let's hope so, boy." Takato whispered. Balin happened to hear what they were saying and he began to think about what was going on. Bert stepped away and kneeled down a little to ask, "What about the seasoning?"

"Hm." Fugamon narrowed his eyes at what was going on. Gesturing to the captive Company he said, "Well, I don't know about the children, but between the Dwarves and the Digimon, have you smelt them? You're gonna need something much stronger than sage before you plate this lot up."

"Traitor!" Bombur shouted followed by shouts from the others. Even Kazu felt betrayed, "And to think that you were a good friend!"

"What do you now about cooking Dwarves or Digimon?" William questioned as he continued to turn the spit. Bilbo tried to think of something to say, but Bert growled at him, "Shut up, William." Then turning back to the Hobbit he said, "Let, uh," He tried to remember the name, "the flurgaburburhobbit talk."

"Uh, the secret to cook them would be, um…" Bilbo stopped as he tried to think of the reason. Bert nodded and said, "Yes? Come on."

"It's uh…" Bilbo tried to think, but had a hard time coming up with something. But Bert cut him off by saying, "Go on and tell us the secret."

"Ye-Yes, I'm telling you. The secret is…" Bilbo started to say. Takato, Guilmon and Balin happened to notice that the dawn was approaching. The Hobbit glanced at the captive Company, but knew that he couldn't stall this way forever. The Dwarves, children and Digimon were a little worried about what he would say. Bilbo then said, "To skin them first."

"What? Skin us?" Nori questioned while the others started shouting in rage. But Bert seemed to be intrigued by the method and said, "Tom, go and get me filleting knife."

"I'll skin you, you little-!" Gloin shouted from those in the sacks. From the spit, Dwalin shouted, "I won't forget that! I won't forget it!"

"Not cool, Bilbo!" Terriermon shouted as he struggled to break out. But Henry started to quiet down as he began to piece the Hobbit's actions together. Fugamon then said, "That will take even longer."

"It's a load of rubbish." William agreed with him. Then he said, "I've eaten plenty of Dwarves and Men with their skins still on." With a nod he said, "Scarf them, I say, boots, clothing and all."

Bilbo, Takato, Guilmon, Henry and Terriermon all looked out into woods and saw Gandalf and Rika run past a rock before disappearing again. They knew that Renamon wasn't too far behind. Bilbo turned his attention back to the Trolls and Fugamon to avoid causing suspicion. Tom walked around and then agreed with the two, "William's right."

Those aware of the plan began to grow nervous when Tom picked up Bombur while saying, "Nothing wrong with a bit of raw Dwarf." Bombur dangled and screamed in fear as Tom prepared to start eating him, "Nice and crunchy."

The others in the Company shouted for him to leave Bombur alone. Bilbo came to the Dwarf's rescue by saying, "Oh, not that one. He's infected."

"Huh?" Tom asked and looked to the Hobbit. Once again, all movement stopped to what he said. William then asked, "You what?"

"What's he infected with?" Fugamon questioned while arching a brow. Bilbo then quickly said, "Yeah, he's got worms in his…" He took a moment to think of what to say, "tubes."

"Eww!" Tom screamed before dropping Bombur back down amongst the others in the sacks. The Dwarves all groaned when Bombur crashed into them. Bilbo looked about the four and said, "In fact, they're all infected. Man, Digimon and Dwarf alike. They're infested with parasites."

"What?!" Impmon questioned as he found it ludicrous. Bilbo shook his head, 'It's a terrible business with them. I wouldn't risk it. I really wouldn't."

While Tom and Bert seemed to be buying what the Hobbit was saying, William and Fugamon didn't seem to be. Even the Dwarves, Kazu and Kenta seemed to be furious by the Hobbit's words. Oin questioned to a flabbergasted Kili, "Parasites? Did he just say 'parasites'?"

"We don't have parasites. You have parasites!" Kili shouted in anger while most of the others agreed with him. Only Thorin, Balin, Takato, Guilmon, Henry and Terriermon didn't join in on the shouting. Bilbo rolled his eyes in annoyance to the Dwarves fighting against his attempts to save them. Thorin was shouting as he was thinking of what the Hobbit was doing and remembered what the Troll had said earlier. Oin shouted at Bilbo, "What are you talking about, laddie?!"

With a swift kick to Kili, even though he was still trapped in a sack, Thorin was able to make them all stop shouting. Everyone, Dwarf, child and Digimon, looked to Thorin as he gave them all a look to tell them to play along. Oin then said, "I've got parasites as big as my arm."

"Mine are the biggest parasites! I've got huge parasites!" Kili added. Everyone started saying that they all had parasites. Terriermon shook his head as he falsely admitted, "I've got rabies."

They all looked to the little rabbit Digimon with odd looks before continuing to chatter. Bilbo nodded before turning back to the towering monsters. The Trolls and Fugamon as they all weren't certain about what was going on while the Company all said, "We're riddled. Very riddled."

"Yes, we are, badly." Dori agreed. William stopped turning the spit and walked up to the Hobbit while Bert took over. The Troll then questioned, "What would you have us do, then? Let them all go?"

"Well…" Bilbo said as he started to think. Fugamon shook his head and said, "Only an idiot would believe in this nonsense."

"You're right there, mate." William growled. Then jabbing Bilbo with a finger he said, "You think I don't know what you're up to? You think that we're too dim to not see through your deceptions."

"Uh…" Bilbo said as the others in the Company began to grow nervous. William returned to the spit and said, "This little ferret and his friends are taking us for fools."

"Ferret?" Bilbo questioned, feeling really insulted. William looked to the Hobbit and said while he turned the spit, "Fools?"

"The dawn will take you three Trolls for sure!" Gandalf's voice said from behind Tom and Fugamon. They all looked to see Gandalf climb on top of a rock and raised his staff high. William then questioned, "Who's that there?"

"No idea." Bert shook his head. Tom then asked, "Can we eat him too?"

Gandalf brought his staff down on the rock and was about to bring it down hard. Fugamon rose from his spot and said, "Not so fast, Wizard."

Then swinging his club forward he shouted, "Evil Hurricane!"

A small whirlwind was sent forward from the bone club and headed straight for Gandalf. But Rika appeared next to him and took out a card. She let the card spin through the air before catching it again between her two fingers. Then moving her D-Ark and the card on both sides of her, she started to slide the card through the slot. Electricity crackled as the card was scanned. Rika's shout echoed when she said, "Digi-Modify!"

The card was fully scanned and the data on it was read when the Tamer pulled it out. Rika then shouted, "WarGreymon's Brave Shield, activate!"

Renamon leapt in front of Rika and Tamer before placing her hands together. In front of the three, a large shield appeared in front of them. The Evil Hurricane attack smacked against the Brave Shield and pushed the yellow fox Digimon back a little.

Gandalf then brought his staff down on the rock and created a crack down the middle. The Wizard, Renamon and Rika all moved back when one half of the rock fell away and let the sunlight shine over the whole group. While the Company and Fugamon winced from the bright light, the Trolls all groaned from the bright light and began to stiffen as they turned to stone. They tried to fight it as the process over took them and they turned to stone, no longer moving. Fugamon growled at the loss of his friends and jumped up high and prepared to attack. Rika then said, "Come on, Ryo."

Back with the others, Ryo looked amongst his cards before pulling one out. Handing it to the siblings he said, "Quickly, use this one."

"Uh, okay." Ai and Mako said. Ai held the D-Ark at the ready while Mako took the card. The young Tamer let the card spin through the air before catching it between his two fingers. Ai and Mako then placed the D-Ark and card in front of the other before swiping the card through the slot. Electricity crackled as the card was scanned. Ai and Mako's shout echoed when they said, "Digi-Modify!"

The card was fully scanned and the data was read when the two Tamers pulled it out. The two then shouted, "Snimon's Twin Sickle attack activate!"

Impmon was facing towards the sky on the spit when he suddenly felt a little different. The struggling against his bonds, his hands changed into those of Snimon's and he was able to cut the ropes. Impmon getting free caused a few of the Dwarves to gasp as they nearly fell into the fire. Impmon stood up on the spit and Fugamon turned to him. Impmon had a smug grin as he said, "You feeling lucky there, punk."

"To think I'm going up against a shrimp like you." Fugamon taunted. What he said next really stung Impmon, "And to think that you were once the feared Digimon Beelzemon, a favorite to the Devas and the Sovereign. Basically the reason that the D-Reaper was able to grow powerful enough. The killer of Leomon."

Everyone in the Company gasped at the reminder of what happened between him and Leomon. Impmon lowered his head as he started to remember the guilt of what he did to Leomon and Jeri. The purple imp Digimon started to shake before getting angry, "Hate to break it to you, pally… But I've been reminded of that day one time too many. I can't change what I did, but I won't stop trying to do better. For my friends, for my Tamers and for Jeri."

"Plus, Jeri's already forgiven him." Rika shouted at Fugamon. Impmon calmed down a little as he remembered when he had asked for her forgiveness before they had to leave. The ogre-like Digimon looked to her and she said, "And if he could, I bet that Leomon would too."

"Enough of this." Fugamon said and turned his attention back to Impmon. Rika started to reach for a card, but a hand from Renamon stopped her. She looked to her partner and Renamon said, "We'll only jump in when Impmon needs it."

"Fine." Rika agreed and relaxed her hand. They both looked on with Gandalf and the others as the fight was about to start. Fugamon swung his bone club forward, "Heavy Swing!"

Impmon used his transformed hands to block the attack before pushing the bone club away. Fugamon was quick to lash out his fist and Impmon jumped back and the fist became buried in the ground. Fugamon grunted as he tried to yank his hand out, but no luck. Impmon took advantage of his foe's misfortune by swinging his Snimon arms. Fugamon fist was knocked out from the swipes before blocking the Snimon's arms with his bone club. Pushing Impmon's transformed arms back, Fugamon then unleashed his, "Evil Hurricane!"

The attack knocked Impmon off his feet and he tumbled back a little. The Company looked worried when he didn't get up at first. Impmon groaned in pain as he rose to his feet, but before he could stand tall again, Fugamon swung the club again and fired another Evil Hurricane attack. Impmon cried out as he was once again knocked back. This caused the Company to cry out in anger as Fugamon continued to torture their friend. Fugamon started simply swinging his club at Impmon who used his Snimon arms to block each strike.

"Go time?" Rika asked, wanting to help their friend. Renamon disappeared from sight before reappearing in a tree above Impmon and Fugamon. Then leaping forward she spun around and landed a Spin Kick to Fugamon's side. Fugamon was sent stumbling back from the two while Renamon raised her left hand. Ghostly flames surrounded it and she leapt forward and launched a Power Paw. But Fugamon narrowed his eyes before swinging his club and fired his Evil Hurricane attack. Renamon cried out as she was knocked back. Rika cried out, "Renamon!"

"No. Renamon!" Impmon said and ran to the yellow fox Digimon. Renamon had landed on her feet, but kneeled down from the attack. Impmon then asked, "Are you all right?"

"I'm fine." Renamon assured. A looming shadow made them look up as Fugamon said, "Not for long."

No longer able to watch their friends be hurt by the enemy Digimon, Guilmon broke free of his sack with a growl. Then with a fluid movement of his claws, he was able to free Terriermon as well. Guilmon and Terriermon then fired a Pyro Sphere and Bunny Blast from their respective mouths. Fugamon looked back to the incoming attacks and jumped out of the way. Renamon followed up by jumping into the air, spreading her arms out and fired her Diamond Storm. Fugamon was sent falling to the ground as the attack knocked him down. But it once again allowed Impmon to take advantage of the moment. Holding his Snimon arms up, Impmon threw them forward, "Twin Sickle!"

A purple glow formed on the blades before being launched at Fugamon. The red ogre-like Digimon cried out as the attack slashed into him. The attack seemed to do the job as he gave one last shout before his body burst into data. The Company waited a moment to see if it was over as Impmon's hands returned to normal. When they were sure, everyone in the Company looked to each other with grins and laughed at the victory. Everyone became glad that the current danger was over. Everyone had grins on their faces. Well, almost, as Dwalin was feeling some discomfort, "Oh! Get your foot out of my back!"

Gandalf, the Tamers and the Digimon then all moved to help free the Company.
