Adam entered the breakfast room and immediately noticed the red roses set in front of where Teela was seated. A feeling of jealousy rose in him, but Edward was not present, that made Adam feel better. "Where is Edward today?" Adam made his presence known as he sat in his usual chair across from Duncan.
Queen Marlena answered Adam, "He went back to Astoria, he had business to attend to. You see the beautiful flowers he left Teela, how romantic!" She smiled at Adam and then looked to a blushing Teela. "He truly wants to impress you, my dear."
Teela could do nothing but blush further, her mind falling back to when she first came into the room . Surprise hit her because she had never received flowers except for her birthday. Everything that Edward was to her came flooding back in her memory, the things that happened this morning with Adam confusing her feelings. Adam had never shown feelings for her before, perhaps she was imagining the looks that she saw in his eyes. She looked toward Adam but the flowers blocked her line of sight of him.
Adam couldn't see Teela, the damn flowers being in the way. Figures, Edward is not here but he is still blocking the way to Teela.
"Now that everyone is here we have important things to discuss." King Randor announced to the room. "Duncan and I have met and agree that a new bodyguard should be chosen for Adam."
"What!" Both Teela and Adam simultaneously exclaimed looking toward the king in astonishment.
The queen raised her hands to calm the two of them down. She had been expecting this and knew it was for the best for Teela and her courtship. "Children please calm down, no one has done anything wrong. Things have changed and we must make life less complicated."
"Your mother is right Adam, Teela's situation needs to be made easier upon her. She needs more time to spend with Edward and the only way to free up time is to replace her as your bodyguard." Randor stated looking at both of them. "We have a couple of suitable candidates in mind, but would like you input as well. Teela, your replacement would have to be up to date with all the security protocols, do you have anyone in mind?"
It made sense, Teela thought surprisingly, she didn't want it to make sense but It did. Being Adam's bodyguard for the last four years have been a statement to the courtiers for her. Proving in her mind that she was worthy of the title Captain of the Guard. Now she would have to willingly give that up to court Edward.
Adam couldn't believe his ears, they want to replace Teela just so she can court Edward, it doesn't make sense. She would not do it. How could she give up the reputation that she has worked so had to gain? But then again the situation has changed, she has changed.
"I believe Turo would be a good candidate to replace me, he's always been my second choice to protect prince Adam." Teela chimed in after a few minutes thought. "He is single and already knows of some of Adams ways, it would not take long to bring him up to date."
Adam's heart felt like it was breaking, she cared for Edward that much. Perhaps he could still use this to his advantage while Edward was not here. "I agree Turo would be a good replacement for Teela." At least with Turo as his bodyguard he could still get away and become He-man. Now he just had to figure out what to do with Teela.
Queen Marlena thought that was too easy, Adam gave no fight whatsoever to the replacement of Teela as his bodyguard. She wondered what was going through his mind, four years is a long time to have someone as your bodyguard and not have a complaint against it. She looked to her son and could not read his face. She saw his relief when he found out that Edward had gone back to Astoria and then his disappointment when Teela announced her choice of replacement. The queen thought for sure that Adam had feelings for Teela and this announcement would bring them out but that did not happen. Perhaps she read her son wrong all this time in hoping that the two of them would find themselves together. Edward has been a blessing to Teela, bringing her out of her comfort zone. She would always use the excuse of duty to get out of court proceedings, now with Edward she will experience a different side of the court.
