Hello everyone and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I just want you to know that the best gift you could give me is to leave me a review, because that's what motivates me.

Before I start, I would like to respond to the review of jcap1fan who was disturbed by the way I talked about Carina in the previous chapter. I don't think the way I wrote it makes her a "bad guy". I just don't think it ever feels good to learn that someone you've been with has gotten back together with their ex and that her reaction is absolutely normal and humane. Besides, in the end, she wishes her happiness.

Chapter 14 : I Only Have Eyes For You

Arizona's POV

Once we were both sitting on the couch, we had to start talking about all of the relationships we'd had since we broke up.

"Well, let's get started," I started, "do you want me to start or do you want to start?"

"Since I was the one who suggested having this discussion," Callie suggested, "I don't mind starting."

"As you want, babe."

"Well, I suppose you're interested to know why I broke up with Penny, aren't you?"

"Yes, I'm interested!"

"After a lot of thought and after looking back at everything that happened between her and me, I think she really was a nice girl who could have really made me happy, but I never got the click. I mean, she had a lot of good qualities, but she didn't have that little extra something."

"What do you mean by the click?"

"For me, the click is basically the feeling that nothing and no one matters, except the person you are with. That feeling that everything can fall apart around you but that it doesn't matter as long as you can be in that person's arms."

"I can understand what you mean. It is basically love."

" I thought I had the click with Penny when we left Seattle but when we settled in New York, that click gradually started to fade."

"Can you explain the reasons why this click has faded away?"

" Maybe I was angry at her for making me give up everything I had built in Seattle, or maybe I just felt sad to be all alone in this city I didn't know and where I didn't know anyone. From the moment Sofia came to join you, it became even worse since because of her and because of my choice to come and live with her, I had to live away from our daughter. At that moment, it was really the beginning of the end."

" Soon after that, I started to see only her flaws and then we started fighting all the time. As a result, after some time, we decided to take a break."

"Is that when you split up?"

" No, after a few weeks, we still decided to get back together. I naively thought that if we fought hard enough, our relationship would eventually work again. However, I was completely wrong and the situation between us escalated."

"What is that supposed to mean?" I asked, furious that this woman could have hurt the woman I loved.

"We argued even more than before our break. She spent her days being jealous whenever I looked at someone in the street. She probably knew I was still in love with you. No matter how hard I tried to reassure her, there was always a moment when we would still argue."

I definitely didn't like knowing that Penny had hurt the love of my life and that she had hurt him.

"We weren't happy any more anyway." Callie continued to recount to me. "We no longer shared anything together, except a lot of arguments. Also, one evening, during an intimate moment, I said your name instead of his. So we definitely broke up."

I couldn't help it, I couldn't help laughing out loud.

"What makes you laugh Arizona?" Callie asks with a smile.

"In total objectivity, this is the most awkward story I've ever been told. I know I should not laugh, but it is extremely funny. You said my name, you said my damn name."

To prevent me from laughing, she made an extreme decision: she put her lips on mine before kissing me languorously. I kissed her back immediately before holding her gently in my arms.

"Callie, to be completely honest with you," I said, continuing to run my hand through her black hair, "I definitely really don't like the idea that anyone could have hurt you."

Callie's POV

"Sweetheart," I said to reassure her, "I know you don't like it because I don't like it when people hurt you either. You know, I think we should open a bottle of wine to make this discussion easier and more comfortable."

"I totally endorse that suggestion."

I got up and went to pour us two glasses of an excellent white wine that Arizona had in one of its wardrobes. I handed her one and we settled down on the couch.

"So," Arizona continued, "there was only Penny?"

"Exactly," I answered, "unless you count the hot night I spent in one of my dreams with Demi Lovato."

"Callie, fantasies don't count."

" In that case, I'm done and now it's your turn!"

"I have to warn you. It might take a little longer."

Hearing this, I had a grin of displeasure at the idea that she had been able to experience many conquests.

"Don't look at me this way," Arizona said to make me feel more at ease, "I haven't had dozens and dozens of conquests. I have only had two, and let me remind you that none of them could hold a candle to you. They just weren't you!"

"Thank you, Arizona. I will do everything I can to keep quiet when you tell me about these other girls."

"Okay, the first one was called Eliza. She was a consultant who came to the hospital to work on the internship program and try to enhance it. At first, she was really the black sheep. Everyone hated her because no one wanted a stranger to interfere with our work."

Just knowing that this Eliza had been with Arizona also made me hate her.

"In spite of all this," Arizona continua, "against all expectations, she started trying to flirt with me. At first, I was not very responsive, but I guess I got caught up in the game and we started seeing each other. It really was not a big deal. It ended with a few kisses and a night together. Then she left the hospital, left town and completely vanished."

"It had to be somehow a serious thing, since she succeeded in sleeping with you and she was able to see you naked."

"It's really not at all a significant story or one that had any value to me." Arizona said to reassure and console me. "I define a significant story as one that I will talk about the day I write my autobiography. I will not talk about the relationship, but I will devote many chapters to our history, our relationship and our family."

This woman genuinely knew what to tell me to make me feel better.

"Then," Arizona continued, "Carina appeared."

"Is she the one who called you when we were at the restaurant?"

"Exactly, that's her. So, we met for the first time at Joe's."

"You really haven't changed at all. You've always found your conquests at Joe's."

"Callie, let me remind you that it was there that I met some of my conquests but also the most high-ranking woman in my life, my soul mate and the mother of our daughter. That's the ONLY reason why it's a place I appreciate and where I love to spend time."

"That's exactly the answer I was hoping for," I said before quickly kissing her, "so what happened with that girl?"

"We met at the bar, and I took her back to my place. Initially, it was supposed to be just a one-night stand but I very quickly realised that this girl I was kissing was my roommate's sister."

"Are you really telling me you were actually banging with Andrew DeLuca's sister?"

"Exactly, I was sleeping with Carina DeLuca."

"Wow, I really missed out on a lot!"

" The fact is that the next day, we met again at the hospital, we got to know each other little by little and we started a real relationship. She's a woman with a big heart and with whom I laughed a lot. At first, it was a cool relationship. I definitely wasn't in love with her but...the sex was pain relieving."

"Arizona," I said in a firm and authoritative voice, "I don't want to know what sex with that woman was like!"

"I'm sorry Callie," Arizona replied before kissing me, "it was very insensitive. I am so very sorry I said that."

"I forgive you, Arizona."

"What I mean is that our relationship was no more than a distraction in order to forget the fact that I missed Sofia and that I was sad. In fact, as soon as I found out Sofia was coming home I broke it off. Nevertheless, she inspired me to start a project that we worked on together, so we decided to try again."

She takes a sip of wine before returning to her story.

"We liked each other, that's for sure," I continued, "but it was very difficult for her to understand that Sofia was the most important thing and that she would always come second. She also didn't understand the connection I had with our daughter. As a result, I decided to end this relationship the moment we made the decision to join you in New York. It didn't make sense for me anymore. This relationship would have worked when I was twenty years old, but I was already past that point. I was well past the point in my life where I was going on first dates with one-night stands. I need to be with my family. The only woman I wanted was you!"

When she had finished narrating this story with me, I kissed her to show her that now all our previous stories were behind us and that we could devote ourselves entirely to what we were living. At that point we embraced each other tenderly, completely satisfied by the mere contact between our two skins.

"Now, what's the next step?" Arizona asked after a few minutes of silence.

"From now on," I answered, looking her deeply in the eyes, "we have to do things together that the three of us enjoy. We have to have good memories as a family again. That's why I invite you and Sofia to spend next weekend with me in a beautiful house by the ocean in the Hampton."
