"Now, Kaneki-kun. Do you want to test out your kagune?" Dr. Kanou asked.
"Kagune... that term seems strangely familiar, papa." Kaneki looked down, and felt a tingling sensation down his back again.
"Yes, all ghouls have a kagune. Let's go into the hallway to have a look at yours." As Dr. Kanou said this, the twin girls skipped out of the ward room. Nodding, Kaneki slowly slid his legs off of the bed, and landed them on the floor. He saw black shoes right by the bed, and guessed that they are for him. As he slid on his shoes, he glanced downwards, and that was when he realized his black garments. What was I like before?
Dr. Kanou held out a hand for Kaneki, and Kaneki grabbed it with uncertainty. He slowly stood up, and surprisingly felt an extreme energy in his legs, as if they are capable for much more.
Walking out of the door steadily, Kaneki looked back at Dr. Kanou for one more nod of approval before entering the cool hallway.
The two girls were a distance away, staring at him with eyes full of expectations.
As Kaneki concentrated his energy to his back, he felt a stream of energy flow towards his upper waist. He sensed the energy intensify and fuse onto one spot, and suddenly, he felt a bag on his back burst.
Four blazing tentacles appeared behind him, and shot straight for the ceiling.
Kaneki barely prevented them from smashing through the roof.
Giving smiles of excitement, Kurona and Nashiro ran closer towards him.
Opening his mouth in astonishment, Kaneki gazed back at Dr. Kanou, who gave him a kind smile.
"That is your kagune, Kaneki-kun. I gave them to you."
Kaneki was about to smile, when suddenly, he heard a new voice behind him.
"Extraordinary, that's my Kaneki!"
Turning around rapidly, he saw a small figure wrapped in bandages. Based on the high pitched voice, Kaneki knew it was a girl. She also had a singular, black and red eye, on her right eye. A smirk also formed on her lips.
"W-Who are you?" Kaneki asked with caution. The twins also turned in surprise, unaware of how fast the one-eyed-owl could appear in front of their eyes.
The smirk on the girl's lips vanished. She was caught off guard by this question, so she looked at Dr. Kanou with suspicious eyes.
"Kaneki-kun is suffering amnesia after his fight with Arima." Dr. Kanou explained to her.
"Ah... that's not very beneficial, isn't it? Well, then I suppose it will take longer to accomplish our goals..." She said with a bit of disappointment in her voice, but smiled at Kaneki again.
"I'm Eto, Kaneki-kun. Although you might not remember anything about me, I have loved you in the past, and I'll continue to love you." Smiling at Kaneki, Eto slowly closed in with open arms, wanting to hold him in an embrace.
However, Kaneki's face had a look of distain.
"I-I don't know who you are, and I don't know why you are acting so... weird around me. Papa and my sisters love me, so I love them too." Kaneki backed away from Eto's arms, making her frown, then immediately give Dr. Kanou a furious glance. Dr. Kanou just gave a small shrug, but smiled a little.
"Kaneki-kun, I still remember your passionate face when I held you in my arms. You felt comfort with me. You need me." Eto tried again, a little anxious this time.
Suddenly, Kaneki's head began twisting.
He felt memories about to come back to him, but fail to grasp it at the last second. He had a pained look on his face, then he peered at Dr. Kanou pleadingly.
"Eto, would you stop causing Kaneki-kun so much pain?" Dr. Kanou turned an accused look towards Eto.
Eto's eyes opened in shock. "Dr. Kanou, give me my Kaneki back." She sounded venomous even with an angel's voice.
"Stop it, Eto. I need Papa." With a hostile voice, Kaneki backed towards Dr. Kanou.
Dropping her arms, Eto looked at Kaneki's loyal expression towards Dr. Kanou, and at Dr. Kanou's amused face. A strong desire urged her to rip out Dr. Kanou's throat right now, but she couldn't do that. She couldn't destroy the one thing that Kaneki loves at this moment, because Kaneki would loathe her forever. She understood very well, that this Kaneki was a different Kaneki than the one when she fed him Hide. The vulnerable Kaneki back then can be broken easily, but this Kaneki was born into this world with Dr. Kanou the only person that he trusts.
Shivering in anger, Eto turned around without saying a word, and disappeared into the darkness.
"Something is bugging you, isn't it, Eto? I haven't seen you this anxious in years." Tatara spoke in a calm voice.
"It's Kanou. He thinks he can take my Kaneki away from me? Such insolence. Kaneki looked at me as if I'm an intruder to his family." Eto said poisonously.
"Maybe you need to stop spending all your effort on one person." Tatara suggested.
"Tatara-san, he is the one. I can feel it, and Kanou can feel it too, I think. He can be the one-eyed-king, and that's what I founded Aogiri Tree for." Eto sighed.
"Then, I suppose you are right. How are we going to take him back?"
"I'll think of a way, but first, I need to lose some steam." Then, she smiled, and jumped off of the rooftop lightly.
Tatara sighed, and tried not to think, but knew exactly what Eto meant by that.
"Takizawa-kun, we are going to do something special today." Eto said playfully.
Seidou shuddered as he heard her voice. "W-What are you going to d-do?"
"Do you see this metal bar?" Eto asked. Seidou's eyes opened in terror as he saw the object in her hand: a medium-thick metal bar the length of her arm.
"When this bar enters your bone, you will feel a piercing pain of your breaking bone," Eto lectured as she watched Seidou shiver. "Then, a normal human would likely pass out. However, because you are a ghoul now, you will be conscious to feel all the pain. Dr. Kanou increased your regeneration abilities by a tremendous amount, so obviously, your bones will try to grow back together. However, this bar is in the way." Eto smirked.
Seidou's eyes bulged as his mouth opened and closed rapidly.
"In other words, Takizawa-kun, the stronger your regeneration abilities are, the more frequently your bones will try to grow back together, and the more pain you will feel as your bones grind against this bar." Eto said in a toying voice, as if everything is trivial matter.
"N-No... NO! Don't! Please!" Seidou trembled in fear as he whispered, then shouted his words. As quick as lightning, Eto shoved the metal bar into his right ribs, making a loud crack as Seidou's ribs shattered. She laughed a little as she heard Seidou's screech fill the dark room.
What a way to lose some steam. Eto's smile was cold and sadistic.
"Want to take a walk outside, Kaneki-kun?" Dr. Kanou asked patiently.
"Sure." Kaneki responded, and followed the doctor through the hallways, and out the building. The twins didn't follow, but went in a different direction.
Just as Kaneki was about to talk, a figure, same height as him, blocked his way past the entrance. He had two kakugans—a term he learnt from Papa—and a scarf that covered his mouth. His kagune were two dark wings, making him look like a mercenary of hell.
"Who are you?" Kaneki demanded.
"You bastard. You don't remember me? After all you did to me, and my sister. YOU MOTHERFUCKER!" The teenage in front of him spat his words in hatred.
Without a word, the figure darted straight towards Kaneki, and shot dozens of crystals at him. Kaneki instantly drew his kagune, and dodged the attack.
Kaneki looked at him with annoyance, and he looked at Kaneki with vengeance.
To be continued...
