Common PineClan Terms

Acrobatics - Apprentices are taught extra skills such as tree climbing, tree jumping, silent stalking, sometimes swimming and other random techniques which might be useful.

Apprentice's Grass Lay Area - A grassy area at the left front corner of camp where apprentices can chill and hang out.

A Half Moon - A time measurement equal to half a moon cycle. Twoleg equivalent: 2 weeks/14 days

A Quarter Moon - A time measurement equal to a quarter of a moon cycle. Twoleg equivalent: a week/7 days

Battle Tactics - How to make clever battle plans as well as attack and defensive strategies before and during a battle. Also includes how to lead a battle patrol.

Big Aps/ Big Apprentices - Slang term for the 4th Seasoners.

Clan Guard - Protectors of the clans. A group of cats formed for the purpose of keeping the clans (relatively) united and defending the warrior code. They are sent to investigate any suspicious code breaking behaviour from cereal trespassers/prey stealers and forbidden romances, to clan traitors/conspirators and, of course, murders or any suspicious deaths…. Twoleg equivalent: The Police

Clan Politics - Apprentices learn about the ever changing relationships between the clans and each clan's general personality. They also learn about each clan leader. PineClan history and clan history in general is also taught a bit here.

CloudClan Culture - Apprentices learn about the far away gorge clan and how they are similar and different to clans around the lake. CloudClan is generally looked upon favourably by PineClan.

Combat training - Generally referred to in the warriors world as battle training. Apprentices learn battle moves and skills and how to fight one on one, one on two and back to back with a partner. PineClan cats pride themselves with their style and grace and ability to use their surroundings to their advantage. They also learn to train in dim light.

Conditioning - Apprentices are given a chance to practice their combat skills, keep fit and develop muscles through battle games and exercises. Twoleg equivalent: Physical Education

Dawn - The light period before sunrise and the earliest sun-up time.

Deputy Apprentices - Chosen by lead apprentice to help keep the younger seasons in order. Are also assigned jobs related to training help, solving disputes or organising meals. There are typically two.

Dep Ap(s)- Slang term for deputy apprentice(s).

Deputy Guard - The cat second in command in their division. Gorsestep is Deputy Guard of the Pine Forest Division.

Dusk - The dimming period before sunset.

Evening Meal - The second meal of sun-up eaten soon after training just before sunset. Twoleg equivalent: dinner

Great Oak - A very, very large and old oak tree located roughly in the middle of PineClan territory. A small clearing is located just beyond.

Half Moon - When half the moon is visible and the time when medicine cats from all lake clans meet at the Moonpool.

Last Sun-up - The sun-up before the present one, but is often also used to vaguely refer to sun-ups before that. Twoleg equivalent: yesterday

Lead Ap - Slang term for lead apprentice.

Lead Guard - The cat first in command of their division. Blackstone is lead Guard of the Pine Forest Division.

Lead Apprentice - Chosen apprentice by the leader to be in-charge of the Dep Aps and the younger seasons. Jobs include keeping the apprentices in order outside of training time, helping with extra training or assessments and solving disputes. The lead apprentice often organises for the deputies to do these things.

Moon - A time measurement equal to a full moon cycle. Twoleg equivalent: a month/4 weeks

Morning Clan Meeting - The early clan meeting which is held every sun-up for the leader to announce upcoming news and events.

Morning Meal - The first meal of sun-up and eaten before training soon after waking. Twoleg equivalent: breakfast

Next Sun-up - The sun-up after the current one. Twoleg equivalent: tomorrow

Patrol - Apprentices learn how to lead border patrols, mark the borders and handle border disputes.

Pine Forest Division - A division or branch of the Clan Guard which deals specifically with PineClan business. Each division has a leader and deputy of their own.

Pine Rock - A large rock, located beneath the oak tree, which the leader sits on during a clan meeting.

Season - A measurement of time equal to three moons and the rough age difference of apprentices between the different age groups. Twoleg equivalent: Three months

Seasoner - An age distinction between training apprentices. There are four of these age groups (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) and training gets harder as the apprentices progress. Twoleg equivalent: School Grade/Year

1st Seasoner - The youngest group of training apprentices. Aged between six and nine moons.

2nd Seasoner - The second youngest group of training apprentices. Aged between nine and twelve moons.

3rd Seasoner - The second oldest group of training apprentices. Aged between twelve and fifteen moons.

4th Seasoner - The oldest group of training apprentices and soon to be warriors. Aged between fifteen and eighteen moons. A young warrior is roughly eighteen moons old or slightly younger.

Sun-high Break - A quick break from training when the sun is at its highest point. Apprentices generally head back to camp and relax and gossip during this time.

Sun-up - The period of time between dawn and sunset when the sun is shining. Twoleg equivalent: day

Sunrise - When the sun is visible over the horizon.

Sunset - When the sun goes down and it becomes dark, the latest sun-up time.

Training Hollow - A sandy, slight dip in the ground which apprentices use as a safe place to train.

Warrior's Grass Lay Area - A grassy area at the right front corner of camp where warriors can chill and hang out.

Warrior Mentor - A full grown warrior chosen by the leader to teach apprentices a specific skill. According to Clan tradition, they must be single and if they want a mate, must step down. Twoleg equivalent: School Teacher
